    About 10 years ago I was in Taiwan for a vacation and I met an old man who ancestry was from Shandong in China and who retreated to Taiwan with the Nationalist Party after the Nationalist Party lost the civil war. We had a very chat and I asked him what would have happened if the Nationalist Party had won the civil. He thought for sometime and replied that the Nationalist Party would not have been able to govern mainland China. I asked him why. He said that the Nationalist Party was a very racist and ethnocentric party that looked down on non-Han Chinese. Given the number of ethnic minorities in China, the Nationalist Party would not be able to truly unify China. In contrast, he observed that the Communist Party had truly been non racist and had been able to treat all ethnic groups with genuine equality. He felt that's why the Communist Party was able to unify China in a way that had never been achieved before in Chinese history.

      With all respects I totally disagree with you. The CCP is NOT part of Chinese Civilization. It is an authoritarian government. As the CCP founding leader Chairman Mao once said " When there is not enough to eat, people starve to death. It is better to let half the people die so that the other half can eat their fill." Is this attitude party of the proud Chinese history. Mao created "common poverty not prosperity.
      Imagine for a moment if China was still run by the current Taiwanese government with 4 x the GDP per capita of CCP China, less corruption and a higher level of 'common prosperity?" The CCP have had 70 years to become a high income country for all its citizens and have failed to do so. What they have achieved is a very unequal and unfair top down society. In the same time, most westernized countries have already achieved this many years ago. That's right, poorer democratic developed countries have developed a higher level of common prosperity than CCP China. This has been achieved by good government policy and minimal corruption. These countries are not even socialist. lol shame shame CCP. A report written from the China Capital Cooperation in November states that there are 220 million Chinese earning less than 500 yuan/month ($80), There are 600 million Chinese than earn less than $160/month. Big fail CCP, its time to go. The CCP's poverty line is set to the 3rd world rate of $1.90 per day. What a joke they cant even create true communism/socialism.
      President Xi is fixated with maintaining absolute control of the CCP and the people by high levels of surveillance and strict censorship. Actions and policies introduce by President Xi in order to maintain absolute power are as follows:
      1: He has ruled the CCP with an iron fist approach and has severely punished any opposition from rival factions e.g. military and security services. In fact over a million party members have been punished due to corruption but surprising they are all from rival factions. Lol Basically he has removed his opposition.
      2: The CCP was a collective leadership and he has changed the way that the CCP was governed.
      3: He removed the 2 term fixed limit and when put to a vote 3 member’s opposed the proposal out of 2964 votes. Lol Amazing
      4: He has removed the autonomy of Hong Kong and broke the agreement of adhering to 1 country 2 systems policy.
      5: He has increased surveillance and censorship in order to maintain and enhance control.
      6: Infiltrated the education system by enforcing the study of his political ideology to the extent that kids must think he is some sort of a god like in North Korea.
      7: He has clamped down on emerging freedoms such as entertainers and entrepreneurs like Jack Ma . President Xi does not want the young generation to look up to anybody except himself.
      8: He has managed to maintain his trade concessions as a developing country yet they have sent people to space. Lol
      President she has enforced domestic repression and International aggression.
      President Xi has manipulated the party to suit himself .
      I will give you some facts and you research them yourself. Xi removes anyone who opposes him. He will do whatever it takes to remain in power. In the last 6 months Chairman Xi has appointed then removed the following PLA commanders as they do not share his autocratic BS values. Wang Xiubin (Southern Theaert Commander), Xu Qiling (Western Theater Commander), Liu Zhenli (Army Commander), Ju Gansheng (Strategic Support Forces), then again Wang Haijiang (Western Theater Commander), plus more. He also sacked Xinjiang’s communist party chief, Chen Quanguo 2 days after President Biden introduced sanctions on Xinjiang's products. He even removed the character Winnie the Pooh because people laughed that he look like him. Chairman Xi rules the CCP with an iron fist and crushes anybody who opposes him or is no use to him. I believe that President Xi will end up in jail just like Mao's wife did many years ago.
      No. the CCP is not concerned about Chinese history, they are focused on propaganda. Chinese history revolves around buddhism and Confucianism. The CCP have crushed all religions, morality and altered history. The CCP has crushed thousands of years of civilization not embraced it, so I therefore strongly disagree with your statements.

    China had had suffered a horrible tumultuous times for almost two hundred years at the hands of foreigners. Japanese and seven Western countries notably UK, US, Germany, France & Italy had bullied, murdered, invaded & occupied parts of China for almost half a century. As a consequence, Chinese people, once a world superpower, suffered untold miseries (那时中国人的苦难 真的是罄竹难书)。
    When China was a world superpower and indeed super strong for almost 1800 years, she had never ever conquered any other countries. Unlike the Chinese, Westerns colonised & pillaged others for self enrichments in Africa, South America, Middle East and Asia.
    Chinese great philosophers in the past millennia had taught the Chinese, one has to be contented (知足常乐); never to be arrogant (谦受益 满招损), must be hard working (日出而作 日落而息) and all men are brothers (四海之内 皆兄弟也).
    Fast forward to 1949 and since then, China has had rebuilt herself through numerous hardships, not least was the threat of using nuclear bomb by the US during the Korean War in 1951. At that point in time, China did not have a single nuclear bomb yet. During the border skirmishes with the Soviet Union in 1969, they had also threatened China with nuclear bombs.
    Fast forward again to 2018, ex President Donald Trump who was an unscrupulous property developer declared high import duties on Chinese goods, a total blockade of high tech products to China and planning a total decoupling with China etc.
    Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan were the last symbols of a weak, down and out China in the past. While the two former territories have been returned to China not so long ago, unification of Taiwan with the mainland still hangs over the heads of 1.4 billions furious Chinese. For whatever reasons which none shall be valid, Japan and the West led by the US are trying ways and means to stop that from happening. Though Chinese philosophers had taught the Chinese patience is a virtue (百忍成金), they had also taught, if it is at end of your patience, do it if you must (忍无可忍 就行动)!

      China is a civilised country. The Chinese people live and thrive on their hard work and their peaceful cooperation among themselves and with the people of other countries. In this way, the Chinese economy develops and the economies of the other countries also develop. It is a win-win situation for all countries. By contrast, the people of the western countries live on the wealth they steal from the non-western countries. They have been doing this low-life activity for the past 500 years. They became rich with stolen wealth like uncivilised gangsters and drug dealers become rich with stolen wealth. The western countries are therefore barbaric gangs of thieves and murderers. But the activities of gangs of thieves and murderers are unsustainable because the civilised people eventually find means to protect themselves and to deter the gangsters from attacking them. It is also the case with the western countries. Their low-life thieving activities are not sustainable. The non-western countries have developed means to protect themselves and to deter the western countries from attacking them. The western countries are therefore at a crossroad. They must choose to either renounce being gangs of thieves and murderers and join the community of civilised countries or face extinction.

    A few years back, a Chinese scholar called 葛劍雄 provided a succinct and more exact characterization of Chinese civilization. He said there are five components:
    1. language (reading, writing and associated thoughts through it);
    2 nation 國 family group 家族 family 家 structure ;
    3 yingyan five elements;
    4 Three teachings in One: Harmonious mix of Confuciusism for society behavior, Doaism for personal behavior and localised buddhism for souls;
    5 ancient universe architecture believed to be developed 3000 years ago during the East Chow Dynasty period, the concept of heaven and world 天下, round heaven and square world 天圓地方。

    There is no democracy is a family but the parents are expected to care for the children who in turn are expected to 孝順父母 (respect the parents/elders). If one can grasp this concept, then expand it upward to a community/nation.

      @@vietnguyen4312 right, because I don't currently live in the US, along with the past 32 years. The US is literally built on corruption, literally slavery and class warfare. There is no such thing here as a living minimum wage, free healthcare free education, and in the wealthiest country in the world, the model nation of your proposed system, there is no such thing as parental leave or paid sick leave. My wife had to take 6 weeks unpaid time off after giving birth and had to file paperwork to the government just to not LOSE her job, while I used my whole yearly vacation of 2 weeks. Pensions? Forget it. Almost all pensions in the US were forcefully replaced with 401k plans which are then gambled on the stock market and lost when the market crashes, every 5-10 years guaranteed, and the capitalists get bailed out but not the working masses. Teachers here have to pay out of their own pocket to buy classroom supplies and textbooks, and have very meager wages to begin with. In the US, it is proven that the wishes of the bottom 90% have ZERO effect on the outcome of government legislation, it's all controlled by capital and politicians that have literally been bought, because in the US it is entirely legal to BUY A POLITICIAN. Say what you want about China, but if the bottom 90% were unhappy, the Party wouldn't last 7 days in power. Here, they lock you up, in a prison system that has 25% of the world's prison population while only having 4% of the world's total population. 🤔 So, next time you try to take various statistics about China out of context, like Taiwan which has the intelligent rule of China with Western money, how about try not to glorify the failures of the Western nations and their system which is currently being propped up with glue and duct tape.

      With all respects Mr Jacques is wrong.
They even simplified their historic language to simplified Chinese. The CCP has crushed thousands of years of civilization not embraced it, so I therefore strongly disagree with your statements.

    CCP is the vehicle for Mao to get power in China back in 1920s. Nowadays, Chinese CCP is more by name than anything else. The govt is run more like the old Chinese successful dynasties like Han and Tang without the power being carried down the family. It has a very strong central govt full of experienced bureaucrats who were chosen by merits. The govt is very functional, effective and very efficient. China does not have the voting system like the West, but the performance of all levels of govt is constantly being judged by the people on daily basis, especially the central govt. Anyone in govt would be removed instantly if found not performing, to the satisfaction of their senior level and the people. China💪💪💪

      Success of society depends NOT on the method of choosing leaders, but on the quality/mentality of the people - people who select and people to be selected.
      The "One Jo Blow One Vote" thing is only a method, not even deserved to be called "ideology".
      This USA society has been rotting, and now it is stuck: no matter which party wins, the government will always face a 49% oppositions.
      With a government "of top 1% people, by top 1% people, for top 1% people", there is very little the common Americans can do - except a USA version of French Revolution.

    Regarding the two incomprehensibles, I don't think there is anything that difficult to understand on the part of Westerners; these things, relating to the way the Chinese have governed themselves for millenia, are readily understood by any university student. Most Western officials simply do not want to understand these basic facts about Chinese history.
    This is because they refuse to believe that any other system of government other than Western goverment is appropriate for any country, even non-Western countries, even those that have been around much longer than Western countries. Worse, they impose sanctions and conduct other operations to force this arrangement on other countries. China takes a more open and enlightened approach, declaring that each countriy needs to create a system of governance that takes its history and needs (economic, social, etc) into account.

    Pardon me Dr. J., I love China and China cultures (yes plurals, e.g. Guandong provinces has three Han dialects, different style of opera and very different/distictive cusines and customs, etc.and China has 56 ethnic groups with their own cultures ) and I love even more all of the three main branches of classical Chinese philosophies (Laozi, Confucious, Buddha) . But no the Chinese Communist Party is not the embodiment of the Chinese civilization. The CCP is a political party, a very good and effective one, they have accompliced more than any political party in the entire world within a span of just 7 decades, I give them all the credits that they deserved. But no the CCP is not the embodiment of the Chinese civilization and the reason will suprise you. The CCP is like an angry child of the Chinese civilation, it actually bad moused Chinese civilization to this day because its core political doctrine is Marxism which is incompatible with Chinese cultures and is far more inferior in scope and depth in comparisom to Chinese civilization. It is the great Chinese Civilization that gradualy teaches and shapes this bad child that we know as the CCP today. But no, the CCP is not the embodiment of the great Chinese Civilization for two reasons (1) the Chinese civilization still continue to shape/change the CCP today, (2) CCP is a political entity, Chinese Civilization transends politics.
    In fact, in Chinese history, the Han, Tang, and Sui dynasties came close to represent Chinese civilization because they contributed so much to China advancement in all aspects, especially in literatures and cultures that continue to shape Chinese thinking to this day, Then again, Han, Tang and Sui benefited from Zhou Dynasty which preceded Qin Dynaty. I am talking about the way Chinese minds can learn, adapt, develop and advance quickly and dynamically. The CCP is the benefisary of those era reforms. Present day CCP advanced China greatly in technology and national defense, but its is not a contributor of Chinese civilization in other fields of Chinese civilization, especially in cultures and literatures that can transform and advance the nation and beyond in contemporary the way Han and Tang dynasties did.
    In sumary, Chinese Civilzation is a continuum with writen history of more than 5000 years. The most influential classical Chinese book 易经 (The Book of Change) was written more than 3000 years ago near the end of Zhou Dynasty by Zhou Wenwang. Zhou himself interpreted and expanded on the idea of Yin-Yang which is widely believed to be created by Fu Xi between 8000 to 30,000 years ago preceded writen history of China. Each Chinese Dynasty built on the works from previous dynasties, the current CCP in essence just begining to understand classical Chinese civilization, it grudgingly accepts some aspects of classical Chinese civilization but not all aspects of Chinese Civilzation. History will judge the CCP either it is a plus to Chinese Civilization or a negative villian. So far, the CCP is very inconsistent.

    With all respects Mr Jacques I totally disagree with you.
They even simplified their historic language. The CCP has crushed thousands of years of civilization not embraced it, so I therefore strongly disagree with your statements.

    I disagree that the Chinese Communist Party embodies the best aspects of Chinese civilization. On the contrary I believe that the CCP has made many blunders, and most recently under Xi Jin Ping it has made itself into essentially a new dynasty with Xi as its second emperor. This is a new dynasty that brooks no opposition inside China, that forces hanification on minorities in Tibet, Eastern Turkestan and Inner Mongolia, and an oppressive Orwellian surveillance system on the Chinese people. And just as Mao took the CCP in a disastrous direction with the Grear Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution and other bad decisions, so too has Xi taken the country in a dangerous direction that is already showing the signs of failure. China may be a civilization state, but there is another China in Taiwan and in the diaspora of Chinese around the planet, that has caught up with the post-Westphalian world of nation states. One can see already the signs that the Mandate of Heaven is being withdrawn from the CCP era's ascendency. When the CCP dynasty falls maybe China will finally join the family of modern nations.
