You can fix the horn by adjusting a nut on the back. Sounds like the mechanism might be a bit too far back, so turning the nut to the right should push it forward a bit.

fun fact here in the UK we have uch things as sounder bases (which is like a horn but a smoke detector (or heat detector sits) on it like a detector base...so we can just put one device in a room not two :)

I always love alarms with incandescent lights inside.
The 9806's seem to be fairly reliable; this is the first time I've heard one go. It's usually the 7002T's that crap out after 20 years and turn into chain smoking ducks.
7002t's die out too quick. mine is from 1987 or 1994 and its already about to die.
@TheTrainsandfirealarmdude Yeah they're POS's. My HS had a system from '86 before they finished remodeling it in 9th grade (04-05), and just about all the remaining 7002t's were practically dead. They were all gone a year later thank God.

You also want to make sure you don't blow your power supply - if the contacts in the horn are stuck in the "on" position, the horn's electromagnet will end up drawing a lot of current continuously.

definitely continuous, since on continuous it'd be running longer on average
Just an average day doing fire alarm testing on a board with fricking tails on the top of it. If the fire alarms going off were real then it would make sense they made a gray tails.

What does blowing up a horn mean?
He was tapping the backbox of the horn so hard that it fell off of it's vibrating plate thus not working anymore
This is why i prefer eletronic fire alarms because they don't stop working.
They can fail, but at a much less frequency than mechanical horns
