Years ago in Cornwall England, me and my family were camping in a 6 birth frame tent. It was about 6 feet tall until we woke up, we were not by a tornado during the night and in the morning the tent was about 1 1/2 feet tall. It was fun getting out of the tent and everyone was okay.
@@Future-Preps35 not to mention chapstick much like a crayon is a great alternative candle. I also take a ziplock bag full of petroleum jelly soaked cotton balls when I go backpacking. This way I always have a way to start a fire. Even if its been raining.
Great review Luke... a real good test for this tent .... thumbs up for this one.... would look forward to more of this type of tests in the same conditions....
i have camped at 9000ft when thunder storms came thru. it was awesome. you are right up there with the lighting, thunder would shake you as it rolled through.
Glad you survived! Believe it or not, I've been through even crazier storms on the beach in a cheap Coleman tent from Walmart with no issues (as long as I'm not lazy about staking it correctly). I saw your Ozark vid, so for anyone on a budget, I do recommend Coleman instead. Storms can come out of nowhere - especially on longer trips it is safer to be prepared equipment-wise, so these videos are beyond valuable! Thanks!
I would love to go camping during a storm like this one but I feel like I would be too scared of getting struck by lightning. :p Great video. Thank you for sharing. :)
I went through a storm almost exactly like this in the middle of New mexico a few weeks ago and it was the most terrifying/hilarious camping experience I've ever had. It was a tiny storm that was perfectly over just our campground and almost stationary for 2 and a half HOURS with all of the good stuff. About 2 inches of rain, 35, maybe even 40+mph winds and rolling thunder that kept us awake until 2 AM. Didn't really help us that we were in a cheap Alps Mountaineering dome tent with the flat side of the tent facing the wind... I ended up having to poke my head out and place a pole back into the hole at 1 in the morning while pretty much using my body as our structural support. Ironically, the campground hadn't had rain in over 3 months prior and the surrounding forrests were on fire. Our luck.
Thanks for the test but being out in the open with that muck lightning is dangerous. So be safe so you can make us many more videos.I enjoy watching them. Thanks Luke
you should check out the Kodiak canvas tents. I have the two man 8x6 one. I set it up for a tropical storm in my yard last summer. We had 12 inches of rain. Not a drop in the tent. IMO it is by far the best car camping tent
I just found your channel and am loving your work! These tent videos are great and I really love the storm videos. Can’t wait to get deeper not your videos.
The thing I like about this tent is the straight sides. There’s doubling over near the sides. Ok it let water 💦 in. But I don’t think many would have stayed totally dry HaHaHa. In that storm. 😂😂🇬🇧💖🙏🇬🇧
Sierra Designs impressed me If you wanna be stealthy with the Colors forget it maybe some Camo color would be the ticket And some kind of wax balm to apply to a zipper during heavy storms. Or a nice big tarp or Shower Curtain or tarp might work as well That's my kind of Tent considering the Quality and Price ,
Thanks for another great video moved down here to Morganton in March been up to Old 105 I think it's called The Gorge a few times now I think you said somebody drove through there with a camper one night in one of your videos and it might have been the same one you woke up with a spider I thought we had big spiders up in Mass nothing compared to the size of the ones on the side of my house here LOL anyway just wanted to touch base and thank you again
Thanks for this video. I've been eyeing the two-person version of this, and this video was really helpful. Odd choice to not go with waterproof zippers or storm-flaps to aid with the waterproofness of the doors.
Have u ever tested out either Jack Wolfskin exolight II tent, or Robens buck creek 2 .. Living at the westcoast norway, a lot of strong wind and rain, and chill conditions here, so on lookout for a good hiking tent, 2 pers. That keeps up against weather, at a fairprice to around 300 marker
Great video Luke. That thunderstorm was crazy. The sound of the rain and thunder was putting me to sleep. I wonder if a stick of bee's wax would work on the zipper to help with water proofing?
Hello Luke and Susie, that was one big storm.when you woke up and you wjere looking out the door of your tent, can y l u see that tree that looks like it has white pimples all over it?lol please have a look down the bottom of that tree/pile plz Luke! It looks like a very old totem pole, seriously looks like a face down the bottom and the leaves of all the other trees have been moved out of the way,up the tree a little bit there is a black hollow square,l can see a face in there to Luke,if l am wrong about the Totem Pole l do not mean any harm it looks like a very very old one but it also has special markings on it. Please have a look at it Luke, thank you for rhe wonderful videos,l enjoy them so much.🎄👀👣🎄👀👣🎄👀👣👣👣👍👍
The Outdoor Gear Review : WOW !!! Talk about really testing out a tent in torrential rain , throw in some hail & high winds , with lightning to boot makes for a good recipe for failure indeed ! Well folks good old Luke actually pulled it off to stay dry , and well ventilated during this epic rain storm ! Temporary glitch due to tent peg failure can happen to the best of us , when you say to yourselves I should fix that before its too late ,and the damage is done !!! lol * Luke's first impression is he likes the tent , he stayed dry and comfortable with more testing required , only giving this Sierra Designs Divine Light 1 FL - a one (1) thumbs up !!!
Haha, my dog definitely wouldn't fit in a tent with me, he's a Newfoundland he's over 200lbs and nearly 6ft from nose to tail, I don't have a tent bigger than a 2 person tent, I did get my dog comfortable being in a tent around the yard though, I set up a larger bivvy tent up in the yard, i cut a slit down the center of the door and i put magnetic strips on the edges, so he can get in an out of the tent on his own, took a little training
Actually, the song you reference was first released by the Cascades in 1962, and was written by one of the band members, John Claude Gummoe. Nonetheless, I was also reminded of that song (and I like Dan Fogelberg's version too). Steve
The only improvement I could see making would be to add an outer zipper flap that covers the entire zipper on the outside which would eliminate the driving rain or any splash issues making their way through the zipper and also the fabric.
Great video again Luke. I have a suggestion for a new video series, car camping gear. For example I have a core equipment 9 person instant cabin tent. I love it and it worked flawlessly in a storm just like in this video. Highly recommend it if you need a massive tent. Maybe test some car camping stoves and grills and tents and chairs and coolers, stuff like that. Lots of families load the car up, find a spot and camp right there.
What’s your opinion on alps mountaineering tents. I own the Taurus 4. Love it. Big winds and rain worthy. Could you do a review on it please. Thank you. Great vids! Big fan
I forget which one I have(2 person, double wall, 2 side entrances) but I find it extremely uncomfortable in the heat of the summer. Plastic "windows" in the fly have degraded and cracked and not enough ventilation. It's also tall and needs to be staked out pretty good on windy nights. Having said that, I love tent for cold weather camping. Two nice large vestibules, lots of space inside and despite the degraded window plastic in the fly, I've never had rain get inside the inner tent.
That was last August.. what state were you In? Looks identicle to the storms we were camping in.. in the same month. Man they were powerful. Lol. Thanks for the review. Always looking for.. and at.. new gear.
All you need to do from now on is carry a can of silicone spray on the zipper in and outside and you would've been all set.hence no more water through the zipper.
When I pitch my tent I am careful to put the foot end into the prevailing wind. The orientation of the tent in relation to wind direction is very important to me. Do you think that would have helped in this test situation? Thanks Luke!
Absolutely Chuck, orientation is very important...unfortunately I couldn't tell exactly where the storm was coming and going due to the wide range of the system that was coming in. Great point brother. - Luke
The music in this video Sounds like the Wallflowers tune 6th avenue heartache? Am I correct? If not have a listen to the song and you will see what I mean. Great tune. Good review by the way

Thanks, Luke, for giving us a REAL test.

Little layer of chapstick would help for a temporary seal during those zipper leakers. :-) Thanks Luke. I bet it was fun.

Good luck and may God be with you during this storm. Fierce lightning .

love your thunderstorm tent tests!
The sounds of a thunderstorm and rain on a tent or tarp are like the music of heaven. Let 'er buck!

Looks like a great time to me ! thumbs up as always... Peace.
I would love to go camping during a storm like this one but I feel like I would be too scared of getting struck by lightning. :p

Hi Luke, nice storm.
Like the lantern 🤙
That was a good test and that's the kind of storm that excites
Great, honest test and review. Thank you.
Thanks for the test but being out in the open with that muck lightning is dangerous. So be safe so you can make us many more videos.I enjoy watching them. Thanks Luke
My Ozark Trails tent went through a couple of storms like that up in the Rocky Mountains... :)
Sierra Designs has great tents. owned two and wonderful to sleep in. now I use Walmart tents and carry a tarp for site dryness..
Now that there is what you would call an extreme water test. Great test Luke, Be safe take care.
'Delta pegs' are a good solution for high winds. Great vid Luke, extreme camping in a Thunder and Lightning storm!
That horizontal rain ☔️ is just like being here in the UK 😂🤣😅🇬🇧💖🙏
💞 your show 😎
Thanks man I appreciate you for taking your time to share your review with us now that's a real test wish you and yours all the very best my friends
I like lightning storms. Just don't be the highest thing and you'll be fine. I have never been hit and we have always been out in the weather. 👌🏻
Pretty nice tent and great sleeping weather.
Brother I have got to give you credit! When you test a product you do a thorough job!
I go all in no matter what I'm doing brother. Nothing half-a$$ed!
Enjoy the weekend buddy!

Now that sounds awesome! - Luke
Luke ace feature. You have a big job in front testing all tents under storm conditions Cheers
Now that was a storm. Be safe out there. I think I would have wanted the military bivy bag just in case the tent died 👍
Awesome video

I've had nights like that...but if your outdoors alot, expect it.
lol omg this would be terrifying but such a buzz. too bad about the poll but great you got it fixed.
Man, that was a serious storm!
Brother Luke any plans for the long weekend??
i would of liked to see how that 2,500$ military tent would of done in that storm...can you do that for us the next rain storm?😆😎
I can definitely do that! - Luke
TheOutdoorGearReview thanxs! "Luke you are my father!"😎😆
*have
ok. camping in the 80's i learned that a waterproof vestibule that comes near or to the ground is best.no water inside! air circulation! whooda thunk!
The sound of rain on a tent puts me to sleep thunder not so much.
above and beyond the call of reviewing , well done for giving the tent a good show , a great review, no wonder you have so many subscribers,
Thanks John, I appreciate you watching and commenting.
Have a good weekend.

Looking at getting the 2 p version of this tent. Do you have any long term reviews ? Still recommend?
That thunder sounds wicked with my 7.2 home theater setup! 😲👍🏻
How does this single wall tent stack up against the Nemo Moki single wall tent? Do you recommend tents with FLYS for better protection in the rain?
Reminds me of the song " Listen to the Rhythm of the Falling Rain " by Dan Fogleburg. Love the sound of rain
Actually, the song you reference was first released by the Cascades in 1962, and was written by one of the band members, John Claude Gummoe. Nonetheless, I was also reminded of that song (and I like Dan Fogelberg's version too).

"in tents" storm
whats the price point

Tim Eubanks he and Suzy do videos on car camping already.
Hi could you do a f1 commando night test please
Great idea!! - Luke
review the snugpak scorpion 2 in a storm completely pegged out

What is a good or decent 2 person tent? Like to put a full size mattress in. Thanks Luke love the channel!
Would you still recommend this tent or one same design similar budget friendly though for spring and summer camps
How was the night? It was in-tents.
I think mesh should always be on the inside to avoid that pooling, instead it just continues to run down the tent! 🤓
Why can't we get good storms like this in upstate New York ! Our weather blows
How would you waterproof the zippers? Great video
It really needs a protective flap over the zipper as the leaking is coming from the actual zipper and the fabric surrounding it. - Luke

Silly question, but what about lightning ground strikes?
Could lightning hit the tent. I love the sound of hard rain. But lighting scares me.
Storms in tents?
Looks to me the only thing the tent manufacturers need to do to improve things is add a storm flap to the zip.
Can u please do an alps mountaineering lynx 1 tent review thanks that would be awesome.
What if I have one cheap cheap tent with good Tarp setting on top.
Hi I noticed you didn’t tuck your ground sheet under the tent before you got it. Did you have any leaks from water pooping under the tent?
Saw that as well and was wondering
That was tucked in before I got inside. :D
Good eyes though folks.
- Luke
I hate it when water poops under my tent..... so stinky
Whoa... Awesome test ! lol
