    that was terrific. I didn't even know where to start before watching your video. Now I feel I can move ahead with this project. I also liked that you set it up before the install - very smart! I'm in Long Beach, California. and have a Catalina 30 sailboat.

      No worries glad someone found this useful. cant wait to see how that turns out. Please keep me posted. I restored a few motorcycles myself in the past and have a big passion for riding. No better feeling than showing off your hard work and seeing peoples reactions. Good luck with that.....

    Thanks for the vid. Why did you cut the arm 6 inches? I get the shaft measurements, i.e. tank depth / 2 + 1 inch. but where does the are length dimension come from? From Auckland NZ

    awesome video mate. How’d you go drilling the hole into the tank? Did you have to pressure rise the tank so nothing fell in?

    Stupid question.... Is it safe for the fuel (petrol) to be touching the cables that are connected to the sender inside the tank? Doesn't seem right?

    What do you do if there's only one terminal on the tank
    unlike yours that has two

    • @FishingAdventuresHB
      @FishingAdventuresHB  4 года назад

      That’s a bit odd as there should always be 2 connections. And always run negative through the sender never ever have any positive wire come close to it as any sort of spark would obviously be really bad near fuel. My only guess would be that the negative wire from your battery would be going to the only terminal on the sender and the negative to your gauge would then be connected to the metal top part. Perhaps by connecting it to the bolts that holds the sender in place on the tank. Test this away from the tank 1st and please let me know if that worked as I’d be very interested to know.

      It's a brand new tank a fuel cell
      But haven't bought a fuel gauge yet
      Not sure what to buy

    • @FishingAdventuresHB
      @FishingAdventuresHB  4 года назад +1

      All gauges should work if I can recommend buy the analogue type rather than the digital type I have. When the boat is on the water and going up and down there is so much movement on the digital one that makes it confusing on how much fuel is actually in the tank.

    • @FishingAdventuresHB
      @FishingAdventuresHB  4 года назад +1

      Also if you own a multi meter you can put it on the ohm function and then put one prong on the senders terminal and the other one to the housing and then you should see the reading change when you move the float up and down.

    • @NeverEnoughPyro40

      Those wiring instructions are not correct! I have a fuel sending unit with only one threaded stud in the middle! You should run a pink wire from your sending unit to your gauge marked sender! Install a ring terminal on a black ground wire and attach it to one of the sending unit mounting bolts, And the other end goes to the ground of the gauge! Run a red wire from the gauge terminal marked ignition, And the other end to switched power on your ignition switch! Very simple! Always use red for power black for ground and pink for sending units! Oh and if your fuel tank is metal do not forget to run a separate ground wire from the tank to your fuel filler neck! These instructions came directly from my Tempo Marine Electric sending unit instructions! Also they recommend using 14 or 16 gauge wire for this!
