    Beaver are one of the most fascinating creatures in the woods. Industrious & relentless little engineers that do so much that improves the local ecological system.

    Mining created an acidic state in the water in the area. They put the limestone traps in there as a buffer to make the acid less in the water. If you where to go further north in the creeks, you wouldn't see much if any fish or other water creatures. When you go about 50 feet south of that spot, the water is more clear, less red/dark and you will start to see more aquatic creatures including fish further down. :-)

    Hey that plaque on the rock was like the original half way point for the AT. We I was on trail 2019 thru hike, there were so many woman hikers they outnumbered the men I was scared too. Love❤your bs. Take care of your feet which you obviously are to make it this far. Ty for your content!!!

    a good way to know if a baby deer has been abanded or not is the ears... that deer had nice straight strong ears... if the ears look saggy... kind of like a crumpled-up piece of paper... it means that the deer is massively dehydrated and mom hasn't been around for a few days... in that case please call DNR or the forest service...😉

    I LOLed during the fast forward section at about 3:00. You left the sound in and it sounded like a doll squeek while the video looked like someone running in a first person video game. It was amusing. Not to discount your VLOG, I really enjoy it. But that made me giggle.

    Hey TC, I have a question for you. I've watched along since you've started the trail, and I've noticed that when you have a negative experience at a hostel or with a person, it seems that you edit your thoughts out of your posted video. Is that the case? If so, what's your reasoning (if you are ok with sharing)? I'd appreciate hearing your perspective on what made a particular place bad or why an interaction made you uncomfortable. Keep on keepin' on, and thanks for the videos!

    • @appalachianadventurista
      @appalachianadventurista  Год назад +1

      That’s a great question. Overall, I prefer not to go into the bad of hostels because I choose not to focus on it. I want to mention where I did and did not enjoy staying. Beyond that, my stories can quickly turn to drama which I want to avoid. I will say that the commonalities that make hostel experiences bad for me are prevalent drugs/alcoholic, uncleanliness, and rude behavior. To be clear as well, I know several hostels are known to be party hotspots. However, when the workers are also drunk or on drugs, i feel less safe, particularly with the shuttle drivers.

    Yippee we were so excited to see your video, over breakfast. Wow, Thank YOU so much for sharing your journey with us. We can't wait to see your video's from the Whites in NH, (where we live)). You'll be in for a treat. UGH Trains next to camp are the worst for us (when we bicycled across America in 2006. Ugh)

    I thoroughly enjoy watching your journey. You add so much interesting information along the way. One picky point though, the water from the coal mine doesn’t have nutrients, it has pollution, often heavy metals.

    I really appreciate your intelligent and well spoken narratives. 😊 Porcupines are adorable. I got a good pic last summer of one gorging on greens. The transition from woods to town is hard for me too. Always seems loud and over stimulating. 6:13

    I have to say I find it interesting that you frequently use the word fear-mongering, which is a word I personally dislike as it implies other people aren’t entitled to an opinion about the difficulty of something. They may just genuinely find that thing more difficult than you did. But yet in the next moment you comment about needing your knife because of sketchy people on the trail, which many would consider to be “fear-mongering”. You seem to be the contemplative sort so I thought I’d mention it. You may want to reconsider the use of that word and just realize that everyone has a different opinion about the dangerousness of a certain situation or obstacle. Just because one person finds a particular river crossing (for instance) more difficult or scary than another person does not mean they are deliberately trying to instill unnecessary fear about it. It’s a highly judgmental and presumptive word to use. Just a thought. I still greatly appreciate your sharing your journey and look forward to it every week. Thank you!

      Thank you for sharing your opinion. That interpretation of the word is not something I have considered. I will think on another way to express what I am trying to say. In the meantime, that may still be in some post dated videos coming up. Again, thanks for sharing, and thank you so much for following along!!

      @@appalachianadventurista... Sometimes in the "heat of battle," when a vlogger is trying to film and hike at the same time, watch the surroundings, express his thoughts, construct his sentences and choose the proper words to convey the message, all at the same time, ... sometimes, perhaps, a less than perfect word may be used. A word with which the vlogger intends to cast no aspersions on anyone at all.
      But far more significant than an individual word used, is your response to the commenter of this post. What stands out the most here is not a specific word you used but your character, as it displays itself in the face of criticism. You are to be COMMENDED for such a beautiful, gracious, kind and humble response, one flavored with appreciation and gratitude to the commenter... truly, a class act.
      Wow, it's rather rare to see on RUclips such an exemplary response to criticism. Well done, thru-hiker. You are a credit to the hiking community.

    • @RickINFJ

      @appalachianadventurista This response really speaks of your character TC. I like and respect you even more after seeing this. This mindset is beautiful, yet so rare. My best friend of 35 years and I have never argued. Even in an hours long conversation about our opinions and theories of the universe. If his opinion made more sense than mine, I would adopt it. If we were at an impasse...we'd move on with an open mind. Your response made my day TC. 😊

      @@mb692100Thank you. I’m afraid that when opinions land on “one single word”, there’s is so much lost. 🤪 In my humble opinion, You are spot on. It’s really time we all respect, appreciate and care for each other…✌️
