Jay what I am so impressed with your video content is you can’t stress enough how important for first time anglers who want to enjoy kayak fishing is to always, always wear your PDF! Fishing should be enjoyed for a lifetime why not do it correctly the first time instead of the last time!❤ you got nothing but love for your channel and content. I can’t wait to see you in a tournament soon!!!
I love the NRS Chinook. The best and most comfortable investment I've made other than my kayak. It's a bit warm in the summer but I'd prefer going home after a day on the water too. 😊
I have the same PFD. It can be dangerous if used in saltwater. The main front zipper has not been a problem. But the pockets would not unzip. The saltwater when dried after a number of outings clogged my zipper tracks. I decided to really clean the entire PFD using a scrub brush and some Dawn detergent. The PFD looks great now. But the zipper was still sticky. So i used a toothbrush and Dawn. It works great now. Now if an emergency occurs it opens easily and I check it regularly. If you store important gear in your pockets be sure you have access.
I have one too. In saltwater the zippers can be encrusted with salt and not work. This is a problem in an emergency. I recommend cleaning the PFD frequently and I use a toothbrush to brush my zippers.
Some cheap PFD’s may say Coast Guard approved but they are not.Beware what you wear! And try it out in the water. See how it keeps you afloat. I took a cold water survival course and learned a lot.
NRS Raku. 2 knives, rogue phone tether to IPhone 14 Pro, safety whistle, line cutters, spf chapstick (no shame) and a salty snack for hot days. I think that’s all. *Extra pair of line scissors
Thanks for watching brother! Both are good options. The upside of traditional PFDs that don’t need to inflate are 1. There’s no parts to fail 2. Lots of Storage 3. Typically brighter and more visible That said, automatics have their place which is why I use mine in the summer. It’s super comfortable and lightweight.
That knife looks like it would get tangled on everything while fishing. Is there a reason you didn’t put it on the top left spot that it was designed for?
@@BeardedDadFishingI have the NRS knife on the left of my Chinook. It extends down to the pocket. Not ideal at all. Also the rubberish loops don’t keep it snug.

Appreciate you brother! 100% agree!
Learned a lot from you. Started bass fishing and definitely picked up a couple tips. I’m loving it now.
Appreciate you brother! If you want to take a stab at some online bass tourneys, let me know! Got a beginner friendly one starting up in May.
I’ll definitely like to check it out. Thank you. I’ve never entered one before I’m interested
Great video brother! I have a Magellan PFD that’s been great for me. Super comfortable and plenty of pockets.
Comfort is key brother! Thanks for watching!

Awesome! 100% agree 👍🏽
Be comfortable AND safe! Thanks for watching 💪🏽

Never had this issue but I also never fish salt. thank you for bringing this up. Huge consideration for zippered pfds.
Awesome video 🤙🤟 you rock man
i started with a cheap bass pro shop one but upgraded to a fishing body glove one the other day. just need a knife next i guess.

Amazing suggestion. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏽
NRS Chinook is what I use for both fresh and inshore salt water. No complaints. Under $100 on Amazon btw.
They’ve been killing the sales lately!
I have many similar items. Great video.
Thanks Bryan! 🙏🏽
Got a Magellan Outdoors PFD, love it just has a phone pocket I keep everything else in front of me.
Awesome. Phone pocket is a win 🏆
Let’s go!
💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
@BeardedDadFishing Have you tried an inflatable pfd with a thin fishing vest under?

Agreed! I’d love to take that course. Got a link?
@@BeardedDadFishing it was offered last year by the TKAA in Virginia. They are on FB. Last time they did it near Yorktown.

I’ve got line scissors and pliers and diagonal cutters on the yak too. And sunburn lips are zero % fun 🤷🏽♂️
Having the high back on the PFD is so clever, I would hate to be fishing having to be hunched over the whole time!
For sure! The key is comfort. If you’re not comfortable, you won’t wear it.
Thanks for the video. What are you thoughts for traditional PFD that are decent in the heat vice the automatics?
Thanks for watching brother!

@@BeardedDadFishing - yeah, ill have to get the summer option for Virginia Summer heat
That nrs is nice but I’m a big guy I need the 3x and they don’t make it that size
Makes sense! Have you tried the 2x and adjusting the sides out?
That knife looks like it would get tangled on everything while fishing. Is there a reason you didn’t put it on the top left spot that it was designed for?
Yes sir that knife is too long for that other spot. Doesn’t get tangled much though.
I’ll be upgrading to the NRS soon.

@@Topshelf_Fishing thanks for the feedback! Same issue I had trying it on the left side with this knife.
Thats where the NRS co pilot knife comes in...fits perfect😎
@@LifewithLewi definitely not for the NRS Neko. The loops by the shoulder are crap anyway.
Nice content , Sir do you need thumbnail service + Video editing
Metal zippers on the pockets, so I won't buy it since I paddle salt water.
I'm using the Stohlquist Fisherman in high vis orange just so I can be seen. There are a lot of Idiots out there driving boats.🤪
Almost bought the Stohlquist years ago. Looks like a great option!
