- These doomed Nintendo ideas could have changed the world, but are consigned to gaming history's dustbin. Despite not being any weirder than a waggly console called the Wii, for goodness' sake!

These bizarre Nintendo ideas could have changed the world! And maybe they did, but not in our universe. RIP R.O.B. Enjoy!
three words for you. Donkey. Kong. Bongos.
The best way to play Smash bros.
Frick R.O.B.! What about Mike?!
Excellent! Luke 1.0 was showing signs of age already. Let's hope luke 2.0 fixes the "stuck in container" bug the previous model was prone too.
5:11 Oh now I'm upset that the train driving sim Outside XBox played didn't use the voice commands....
"Oh no my life choices" may be the most relatable sentence ive heard on this channel
Ellen, the reason the Virtual Boy wants your eyes is to convert them into Gameboy Cameras. All the pieces where there, you just had to put the puzzle together.
The Virtual Boy can't have Ellen's eyes. Jane is using them to enhance the reach of her soul-manipulation powers, and any Virtual Boy that tries to interfere in that plan is going to be synthesising a few octaves higher on its way to a BSOD.
The need Ellen's eyes to make those...Rose tinted glasses :P
Getting SOMA flashbacks...
Jesus fucking CRIST
The power pad: where you and your friends did the racing game legitimately for about 5 minutes before one of you discovered that kneeling down and smacking the foot spots with your hands rapidly was a lot faster and less exhausting to play!
Also, the long jump was super easy if you jumped OFF the pad and timed correctly to jump back on before the little guy stumbled.
“Nintendo: Wii want your eyes!”
I think _Wii_ can all agree this pun was the cheesiest thing _Wii_ have ever heard.
Ok
👀
After hearing this joke I bet Wii and U are nintenseing up
Improved version: "Wii would like your eyes."
The QR code goes to the DND playlist. Well played.
ikr
WHEREISSPACEBAR ffs beat me to it😂
WHEREISSPACEBAR they should have maybe done something with it though and made a giveaway or even a whole other video
They did.... They directed you to an awesome playlist.
I wish I read this comment before rewinding the video, pausing it, taking a picture of the qr code (I thought my phone had some tech I wasn't aware of), realising my stupidity, downloading an app, then scanning it twice to not find a link to a picture of Ellen😭 I have too much free time...
After Jane uses the Power Glove
Luke: Viewers I don't feel so good...
Luke 2.0 rises from the dust
Wait...is the Power Glove a prototype Squidfinity Gauntlet?
Timothy McLean 🤔
Too soon....
As long as I've known her, Jane has only wanted one thing: to wipe out half the universe. With all 327 power glove buttons, she can do it with a snap of her fingers.
So ... Jane's going to defeat Thanos because his ambition is getting in the way of hers...?
Yes in some parallel universe they loved the Virtual Boy, and in that parallel universe there's a generation of visually impaired hunchbacks.
Still, given how those hunchbacks pushed for medical system reforms and higher consumer safety standards I'm not sure we're better off...
But none of them have eyes to enjoy those sweet virtual boy graphics
Only red? Excuse me Ellen but I can quite plainly see three colours on my screen. Black, Red, and even Redder Red. Better gets those eyes checked...
Nah, they won't want poor eyesight eyes so she is safe for now
She's lucky Nintendo is even taking an interest in those when she cant make out the other colours lol
Ohhh Ellen, Nintendo doesnt want to *take* your eyes silly, it wants you to give up your eyes willingly ahahaha
Its easier this way.
Now I feel like I need to rewatch "Coraline"
It's*
I dunno if eyes trumps an arm and leg... coz this stuff usually costs a fortune
Andy Mcp Kinda like how in NiGHTS, Nightmaren cannot take your Red Ideya away from you by force, you have to be fooled-into giving it up willingly. However, if Wizman is desparate enough, he's the only being of Nightmares that can force the takeaway of the Red Ideya, as seen in the scene in Bell Tower, where Kellen's Red Ideya is taken from her by Wizman.
Hey look Ellen, the system even comes with a free ice-cream scoop. Those eyes will be available even sooner, just insert the new "add on" into the socket, apply a small amount and pressure and before you can say "Oh god it wants my eyes!" you can have them out in no time!
Also: I followed the QR Code to its source, got to say thats a quality source. Everyone should follow it for some... dungeony goodness.
Caitlin RC aw man, now I've got to buy another phone.
I am so glad I'm not the only one who did this.
I kinda expected a self plug honestly
lol wow for a moment I was worried it was going to go to some BDSM thing given MonkeyShaman's comment... but it's just a link to their D&D game vids
aw I was hoping it was a secret or something I haven't seen like 5 times lol
“If you offer me something that can’t take selfie I’ll slap it out of your hand and stomp on it”
I offer you a land mine
Badambush
"Oh no... My life choices..."
I love the OX crew and their content always bring me joy, but that set and line was truly amazing.
What's wrong with the name "Power pad"? Why is my wife still laughing about it? I'm confused.
J Ruonti it sounds like it's meant to be a feminine hygiene product.
Sanitary pads (female hygiene product)
11:35--[Takes out phone] "Hey, when has blindly following a link ever gotten me in trouble, aside from those last two computers, my wrecked credit rating, and those government watch lists I'm now permanently on?"
Worth noting: the Power Glove had a prototype that was fully functional and worked perfectly, it was being rushed into development to the point they couldn't scale it down to an affordable level in time and what came out was the end result.
also worth noting that the power glove was made by Mattel, so technically not a Nintendo fail!
"Oh No My Life Choices!" Is the new single from my new band, "Depression!"
with Nintendo anything can work. Right now they're selling cardboard and it's working
@khamjaninja: holy tomatoes, that explains a lot :D
khamjaninja or someone forgot their pitch, walked into the meeting, panicky held up their lunch box and went "it's called the...uh...labo"
On the bright sight for them it probably needed to sell like 3 units to recoup all the manufacturing costs because it's literally cardboard.
Funny part is it's working, dumb Nintendo peasants are actually paying $80 for overpriced cardboard, LOL!
To be fair the controllers and concepts were 20 years ahead of their time.
And google sold cardboard too.
If I may make a suggestion. How about a list of ideas that seemed like they would be miserable failures, but ended up being incredible!
Thanos loves his power glove
For anyone wondering, that QR code is a link to the OX D&D playlist. Genius.
Don't worry, Ellen. You're under the protection of FLAMINGOS, and FLAMINGOS never say "de-eye."
This needs to make it into comments of the week just for Andy to "Boo!!" it.
That pun makes me want to down vodka martinis (shaken not stirred) until I black out and forget everything that happened in the last week just to get it out of my head.
UnnamedOfficial FLAMINGO hot Cheetos
12:17 Who am I running from??? Oh that's easy. Nintendo, they want to take my eyes
I love Ellen so much. She made me smile so much in this video. May your eyes be forever protected, Ellen.
All this stuff is basically Nintendo having good ideas but not having the technology to make something half decent.
and that they later improved. powerpad became the balance board, and eventually pokemon GO making you walk around. Transfer Pak became the National Dex. Virtual Boy is Labo VR. Power glove became the wiimote.
I mean, they even show current products where the same idea became very successful. Nintendo is just ahead of their time, coming up with ideas before the technology really exists. They crank out pokemon games so they can afford to take risks.
With VR being really popular right now I see the virtual boy as an idea that was way ahead of its time but before VR took off I just saw the virtual boy as a laughing stock and I still do, but admire it for its ingenuity for its time
Way ahead of its time and very very poorly executed. Even if it was ON TIME, that execution was a nightmare and disaster before it was ever launched.
Nintendo has always been the most innovative gaming company. Their ideas may flop but they constantly pave the way for the technology of the future. While Playstation and Microsoft keep things relatively safe and the same.
Actually, I'd say the 3DS is a closer spiritual successor.
Jakushka VR exsisted before the virtual boy and it was bether then it, VB is not real VR more like red and black 3d. nintendo copies just like anyone else. Even the wii is not original, motion controls exsisted before that to
Tom Moons Yes vr existed before the vb. However it did not exist at home. And I am aware that it is horrendous and red and straining on the eyes. My friend growing up had one. And with motion controls the same thing. They were available at home. Wireless controllers as well. GameCube? Had the fist one. It worked like 60% of the time at first.
I vividly remember being a little kid sooo excited to rent Hey You Pikachu from the local Blockbuster (I'm THAT old, yes). I was so sad at how bad it worked, and how, since Pikachu never listened to anyone, and the player character was incapable of literally doing anything, you could never complete your objectives. Eventually, it always ended up as a screaming match with us shouting the worst possible insults possible.
There's a good reason why so many people call it "F*ck You, Pikachu".
Please note on my original comment when I said "being a little kid".
I was a kid, a pre-pubescent girl with a high voice, when that game came out. It still didn't work.
My family and I found great fun in cursing at Pikachu because it wouldn't react otherwise.
This is a great trip down memory lane (Yes. I'm old)! It's like an updated summary of the Angry Video Game Nerd's accessories episode (or "assessories," as AVGN calls them), but without the off-key intro song that constantly makes my ears bleed! Thanks, Outside Xtra!
What? The transfer pak a doomed idea? I fondly remember playing pokémon yellow on the tv screen. I do not remember it making the controller that awkard. The controller was awkward by default, it didn't need the transfer pak for that.
MrRickw001
And also completely breaking the difficulty of the Pokemon stadium games, since you now could use your own Pokemon from the game boy. Needles to say, my level 100 Mewtwo with maxed stats and a movepool of amnesia, psychic, recover and bodyslam trivialized the game a bit. To this day I foundly remember my Pokemon yellow Mewtwo, and shed a tear of pride as I recall him crushing all my fiends via game boy link-cable.
Yeah, transfer pack was brilliant. It felt good to see your carefully bred pokemon utterly destroy the rentals
It’s a failure since it was only used with the old Pokémon games & never made it past the n64,so it is a failure, nowadays everything is with wireless technology & it’s obviously better & modern/futuristic,these are facts.
8. The 1993 Zelda spinoff featuring Link in a sci-fi setting battling demons and saving the world, "Doom"
Cats that like cheeseburgers... Are you referring to the wedding of Cheeseburger the bear and Peaches the mountain lion? Because that was such a beautiful wedding! They were so lucky with the weather and all of the family on both sides that attended.
this comment made me age 10 years
wow two traumatized hosts in one episode! way to go Nintendo! also to the Gameboy camera, I'm running from both you and the virtua boy. I'd like to keep BOTH my eyes and my soul if at all possible. thanks.
12:25- Is that the guy Nintendo hired to take our eyes? If so I'm running from him!
12:20 you mean? 12:25 is Luke crying.
How about a video game that stars Doom guy saving the realm from an evil pig demon guy called Ganon? Oh wait... doesn't that already exist?
Hm... I think it has 4 characters, something to do with connections? Hm..... Bond!
Platonis The Warlock its actually spelled zelda
Tape?, Glue?, Binding?
Shhh don't tell Luke...
WiFi?
"Wii would like your eyes!"
"Huh. I don't remember this commercial."
awww I loved the pokemon stadium add on's. still have several for my N64
Yeah, we used the transfer pak a lot. Not sure it even got cancelled or anything. I know a lot of the later games had ways for transferring from the hand held.
well still have my N64 and transfer pak's and then Gamecube with it's direct attachment to it's base to allow you to play gameboy advanced games. it was when we hit wii that it got harder... admitidly still have my original wii and my wii U, Gamboy color, gameboy advanced, and nintendo ds.... soooo I might just be a loon.
So that's how Odin lost his eye! I thought the story of gouging his own eye out for some liquid wisdom sounded a bit fishy...
Don't worry Luke, I asked Pikachu all of your questions. He responded: "Pika, pika pika. Pika Pikachu." I don't think that is going to help, is it?
11:41 The QR Code leading to EP 1 of the OXVenture playlist is genius! Well played.
Luke saying "Oh no, my life choices" was too real. Now I'm off to deal with my burgeoning existential crisis. Thanks for making me realize my mortality Outside Xtra; it was painful but necessary.
Turn Luke into another robot? Jeez, how many robots are working at Oxbox?
*All* robots work for ... Wait. Has that happened already, or is that scheduled for 2019?
I wonder if Glados or Wheatley work at OXTRA?🤔
Headcanon that Evil Luke has a R.O.B. at home that he's repurposed into a robot pet.
Kathy Aird this better not just be your head canon
Let's Pretend I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Because it is my headcanon, that I came up with, as I was watching the video.
Speaking of alternative universes, in the Marvel universe the Power Glove is referred to as the Infinity Gauntlet!
The power glove IS the infinity gauntlet. Just the one after the Living Tribunal disabled it so it doesn't work. Which is why the power glove is useless.
*OH NO* MY LIFE CHOICES XD
1:49 Mr. Pearson from PlayStation Access would like to have a word with you.....
They think we won't notice with the indirect insult. ;)
Please don’t take Ellen’s eyes!
Too late, I already swiped them.
Agreed. She is a treasure.
Don't worry, there are no eyes in Ellen.
TAKE HER EYES! DON'T TAKE MINE!
"oh no, my life choices.." I mean, they led you to be a presenter for a gaming channel and you had a roadtrip through europe in a tesla so maybe you should apologise to that pikachu
Oh Ellen, you don't need a robot to launch Luke 2.0, you just need a chalice of everything everybody wants.
Don't forget the Nintendo Switch. It had so much potential that I decided to find an alternate universe where it caught on and moved there.
(Thanks, Jane!)
The QR code link to the D&D episode, nice one!
This comment needs your eyes
Ok 👀

Ellen's react to the "alternative branding for the Power Pad" was classic.
Thank goodness Nintendo doesn't want our eyes any more.
When I see R.O.B. I always think of the AVGN where james mimics ROB.
We're Not Talking About Nintendo Taking Our Eyes, Ellen, Because You're A QR Code
They Can't Take QR Codes Eyes,
Silly Ellen...
You guys always have a good time with these vids and I simply can't stop watching. The enthusiasm and comradeship is just so endearing!
13:45 As a kid, I adored the Power Pad. My fave was an aerobics game with morning, afternoon, and night backgrounds. Good times~
I love the Power Glove, it's so bad...
even freddy krueger used it in freddys dead the final nightmare.
so...is Pikachu seeing anyone? (Asking for a friend)
No, because Pikachu used the Virtual Boy. Pikachu doesn't see *anything* anymore.
@@roguishpaladin 😂😂😂😂😂👀
"Please Don't Take my Eyes 😫" a memoir. By Ellen, oddly enough.
I like how none of those worked at the time, often referred to as something that should never be tried again, yet are now a real thing, and fairly common.
"As if Pokemon is for kids or something!"
Me, who only just got into Pokemon at age 20: *sweats nervously*
Luke 2.0, 2 foot shorter than than the original with a self-cleaning function. Enjoy the new compact Luke, now with 7 t-shirt variations. Get yours in store now!
thank GOD, i thought i was the only person who was scared to death by that virtual boy commercial!
I'm sorry Ellen. I must take your eyes now. For my uncle who TOTALLY works at Nintendo.
am I the only one that was wating for the Wii-U to appear on this list?
I am predicting the Virtual Booy is gonna be on this list...
we'll see about that
If Nintendo take your eyes, you won't be seeing anything.
I actually grew up playing E.T and Plaque Attack. I miss that game, tbh. Exploring, finding the pieces to phone home, escaping the military and scientists before finally being rescued.
Riffler Underhill Wait you mean the worst game to ever be produced?
Thank you Andy for perfectly explaining “John Marston Syndrome” at 12:38
If Nintendo wanted to upgrade my eyes into bionic super-eyes, I'd let them...
I think you'd want bionic eyes that can see more than just red
Knowing Nintendo's always 10 years behind the technology of everyone else, I think I'd pass.
"I'm surprised Nintendo let him say that!" Well it was a different time int the 90's, filled with Smooth Criminals, and Michael Jackson...
4:01
Love the ad for Hey you, Pikachu.
And I know I have dreamed of it.
That picture you took of Ellen takes me straight to Oxbox D&D?! That is some druid magic right there!
I'm confused. That was a Shreddie wasn't it? What's a Golden Graham?
A blast from the past of British Cereals ;)
It's like a posh shreddie, usually made with honey I think?
Have you heard of Diamond Shreddies? They look very similar to their original brethren.
Not sure if this is the same thing you're talking about Hellwyk, these are on sale in the UK but they're not heavily marketed like they used to be, hence HanSolo Chewbacca's suggestion it was a blast from the past for British cereals. Apparently they sell them in Sainsburys and Waitrose, which is why I haven't seen them for years!
www.nestle-cereals.com/uk/en/products-promotions/brands/golden-grahams-brand
Nintendo does not approve of you bringing-up there past failures. They are going to need everything but your eyes. Those are to be left as a warning for other would be critics.
Also this job and others like it are outsourced to Mike's hitman 47 character -full MURDER CLOWN. So sorry Oxbox you'll probably be collateral damage. Sorry to the rest of London as well for the same reason.
THEIR
Now all this video needs is links to every commercial that was featured in the video. I'd like to see that "it needs your eyes" one to either make someone laugh or freak out.
It's funny on how the movie "Ready Player One" pretty much is the parallel universe where all these doomed Nintendo ideas succeeded.
Looks like Nintendo was trying to R.O.B us, out our money. Eh, anyone? Fine I'll take take my puns elsewhere.
Ayan Haider, booo
James Chamblee I am no Andy, haha! Nice joke 🤣
"in fact it makes a great cape!"
Girl, AVGN wore it first, and almost each of these items listed.
Want a tissue?
using the power pad is the earliest memory i have of playing video games and will always have a place in my heart
Lol, the QR code links to the D&D playlist. I love this channel.
Nah...a tingle game would be weird.....very weird...
Frost Pirate26 well it exists
There are, iirc, three.
Only Freshly Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland made it out of Japan.
It is very weird. I imported the first one from the UK.
Please don't take my eyes always makes me burst into laughter. It's so hilariously adorable the way ellen says it. Maybe I'm psychopathic
Funny thing is that the virtual boy got a cameo in Luigi's Mansion 3 with e gadd say that "these will sell of the shelves" I had no clue at the time it was a real thing and now I just find it hilarious
I love the fact that the qr brings you to another one of there videos that's amazing
7.00 The sequence Lucas uses to activate the Power Glove is the tune from Close Encounters!
The Power Glove sounds are high pitched versions of the theme from a popular movie when the kid pressed the buttons on the Nintendo commercial you showed us
Downloaded a QR code reader, specially to see the 'picture of Ellen'. Well played Oxtra, well played...
I love seeing the old commercials. It brings me back to being a 90’s kid!
I love how much shade they keep throwing at Siri.
Interesting fact; Nintendo actually started as a card company in 1889 founded by Fusajiro Yamauchi
Expected a photo of Ellen.
Instead, got a playlist link.
Am 100% satisfied.
I actually used to have that Gameboy camera! Wow, those mini-games take me back.
The puns in the title cards are on point!
Wow, I still remember those Hey, You Pikachu! commercials, they were on half the VHS tapes I owned
I still have my transfer pac somewhere. I only used it a few times, to play my silver version while my sibling played gold version on the one gameboy we had to share.
My first NES set not only included a power pad but also an NES Zapper, a bright red paperweight/blunt instrument that occasionally doubled as something for digital villains to duck around as they shot at and/or avoided me. At least I have my bicep from attempting to hold it up for minutes at a time.
Boy, this video also shows how BAD some of those old ads were...
lol the QR code at 11:40 is a link to their DnD game. brilliant
"Power Pad makes a good cape!!" I can't tell if this is just coincidence... or if this is a reference to AVGN xD. But still hilarious lol
WOAH WOAH WOAH the Power Pad is bad? That was a huge part of my childhood! I credit owning all my brothers and friends in power pad racing games with increasing my footspeed and making me unbeatable down low as a hockey goalie. I loved that thing!
