These are the time we remind ourselves, our adventures with fishing aren't just for fishing! But we are definitely glad to at least catch one or two. This was similar to me on the Green river. It was slow, but man the country is beautiful and the fish I did catch were beautiful.
Really amazing my friend. You capture what fly fishing is all about: a connection with nature. Some days aren’t a bunch of fish in the net, and that is still a great day. Cheers
I'm sure it's going to be amazing. I think I just had a fluke off day. I've been seeing reports from many people that the river is fishing great right now! Have fun up there!
When you have fish on that are in the current like the 14” one turn your rod more to the side and fight the fish to the side you have more power on the fish that way. The rod straight up isn’t as affective. Great video. As always. I enjoy watching them!
When I was editing this video, I was thinking that I was guaranteed to get a comment suggesting I play it with side pressure. Not sure why I didn't, but you're 100% right. Thanks for watching :D
Hey man, thank you. I'm a fan of those over/shots as well. We're pretty blessed up here. The grass is always greener tho. I'd love to fish out there in PA as well.
@@SufferingOutdoors Well the McCloud is kind of an exception for that. It's full of glacial silt from Mt. Shasta that gives it that blue/teal color. We have other rivers that are clear and some that are green, but none are quite as blue as the McCloud
I am enjoying your videos. I fished a couple of streams in the Redding area recently and was told that water temperatures have been unusually high for this time of year, likely related to the poor snowpack on Shasta and other peaks. I tend to stop fishing when water temperatures get warm. It's hard on the trout with a high mortality rate even when handled with care. The weather has been really hot, too. I may be done with the area until things cool off in the fall.
It's going to vary a lot depending on where you go. Most of the tail waters stay under 68 and there are several spring creeks around as well. Definitely keep your thermometer handy
@@driftstone I also heard that the Lower Sac has been allowed to warm more than in most years as the Water Resources Department tries to save a limited supply of cold water in Lake Shasta for release when the salmon come to spawn in the fall. I wonder what the effect will be on the insect and trout populations. I appreciate your suggestion: I'll have to buy a thermometer.
Eric, I love the new style of titles and the music was great. Really nice videography and editing. I am looking forward to getting up there this spring. Did you see any fish raising? If so, what was in the air? Thanks again.
Hey Flow, you're the first to notice the new titles. On this trip I didn't see anything eating on top but I was basically fishing midday. I did see a lot of PMDs, midges and these beautiful blue moths. I've also started seeing stone fly casings on rocks.
@@driftstone The titles are SWEET, you most be using Fusion. I will try to use that on my next video. By the time I get to editing in titles, I am too inpatient and just excited to release the video.
No, that's Photoshop. I have no idea how you might mask out the text in Fusion. I know what you mean though about being impatient. My upload usually takes 2hrs, so I work on it during that time.
@Eric Leslie, did you see the mccloud flows are bellow 100cfs. i wonder how it is. maybe the area by gilman road bellow bolliboka can be fished. has the water cleared?
I love them too, they add so much for me. To get the clean over/under water shots, you need a GoPro dome. It's kind of bulky and a PITA to carry around. I scratched mine up pretty fast, then I lost the protect cover and then I tried to repair the scratches with heat and deformed the dome, so I need a new one. I'm going to look to see if there's a more scratch resistant one, but that's what you need.
You should try some natural pheasant tail frenchies and the grey and pink Frenchy. The pmds should be coming off so pheasant tails are good. Just a suggestion buddy again great video
I love it for the most part. I think for a regular fisherman, it's a bit big and I don't like how hard it is get things past the main zipper. But I can carry my drone and some lunch and not worry one bit about its safety. I also wish the material that you can stick fly into, was lower on the strap.
What size is the rod (2 or 3 wt?) and what size is the reel? After a long debate I'm looking to pull the trigger on your exact setup, with the Epiphany and Liquid.
@@driftstone Nice! I was looking to get the 2 weight. Why did you choose the 3 weight, if I may ask? More backbone? Is the 3 weight more like a "normal" 5 or 6 weight rod?
Ultimately it came down to getting an opportunity to get a used one. But I like being able to land the bigger fish. I also have a 5wt drifter and I'd say the backbone feels the same. It just has a slightly more sensitive tip. If you're wanting more sensitivity for skinnier water, I'd go with a 2wt.

That’s a beautiful river
Nothing wrong with just a few fish on a beautiful river. ;) Nice to be just out there at times ...Great cinematography! Cheers!

Sick, the fishing reports I've heard have been fantastic! Good luck
Gotta love a good roll cast slo-mo. Looking forward to that North Yuba video!
That was a total accident, but I think I'm going to make that a regular thing going forward.
I'll be going up to the McCloud in a few weeks. Fishing is supposedly getting hotter there now. Your videos are legitimately the best. Keep it up!
