Here is my hands on and first impressions video of the new PYXIS.
Did you order one? And if so, which mount?
Cheers,
Flo
@@OfTwoLands haven't got one, after my film festival competitions with my current short one will be upgrading with this hopefully
L Mount! Crossing my fingers it’ll come in with this wave of orders! Super hyped to see it in your hands, you’re gonna do great stuff with it ❤️🔥
I'm gonna wait until it gets a discount later down the line to add one to my Cinema 6K like you did using it as A cam on some projects that require two cameras, will get L-Mount since I have a ton of lenses and adapters for L. I also still have a Panasonic S5 from before which I got when it was new so I have a lot of L-mount accessories.
I've seen so many negative videos about this camera, mostly by people who have never even held one. It's nice to hear a positive video on it by someone who has one. I think it's a great camera with so many options for rigging etc. Looking forward to future videos on it.
Thank you mate!!
It's always like this on RUclips, people seem to love to complain about things they either don't have yet or don't even use. Worst thing about RUclips!
Most people unfortunately judge products without ever using one, some can't even do a decent job with a more expensive / better camera / gear. We just like to give our (negative) opinion without even really needing / using the features we "want". Which is why I only take expert opinion seriously. Only people with real world experience and can do a good job with any gear are worth listening to imo.
I bought one, sold it after a week, wasn't impress.
You're not gonna like this camera after a couple weeks. Might as well send it my way so I can dispose of it properly.
😂😂
Unfortunately I still have my blackmagic cameras even 10 year old ones so might have to wait a bit
Yep, I still have my 2.5K and Micro Cinema Cameras!@@OfTwoLands
Agreed. 👍🏼
We will help you recycle your equipment for free
Love it! Blackmagic really listens to their customers!
They really did!!
Yeah they got there in the end, took a while but that's understandable as they are in actuality a very small company so changing body format was always gonna be a big investment for them and a risky one.
Great overview Flo! Seeing it side by side the Cinema 6K, was great to see the difference in size. Seems like a much better form-factor!
Thanks mate! And yeah I was surprised by how different they are as soon as I put them side by side.
I’ve been waiting on to see the Pyxis on hand so bad😭but I knew of two lands was going to come through lol. You & Matteo Bertoli are the best at showing the capabilities of BlackMagic 🔥thank you!
Thanks so much ☺️🙏
First question is how screen would be resposive in cold (winter time), second questios rolling shutter. Is it same as on BMC 6K FF or it’s better?
What a beautiful camera.
Really is 😍
Hi, thanks for sharing this video. I would be really keen to see a side by side comparison of your BMCC 6K full frame and the PYXIS. I understand that it's the same sensor, but Blackmagic did say say that part of the delay with the PYXIS was that they were initially unhappy with the image quality. This implies that something in the hardware is different to the 6K full frame. I would be especially interested in low light performance. Thanks for anything you can do!
A few people have asked about this so will do my best asap as always ☺️👍
@@OfTwoLands Thanks, you are a star!
When and where did Blackmagic say the delay was due to image quality? You guys always start unfounded rumors. I can't imagine Blackmagic publicly saying they are unhappy with the image quality. They said the 6K and Pyxis share the same sensor. In fact, the noise on the Pyxis and 6K full-frame is a little worse than the 6K Pro.
The only difference anyone will claim will be the placebo effect.
Huge congratulations. Thank you for taking us along on your exciting ride.
Thanks for watching :) !!
It looks super cool. I look forward to seeing what you create with it!
Thanks mate!!
Great job! Thanks!
Since you do docs, I would love to heard your thoughts about audio! The UMP G2 had (2) XLR .
Thanks!! I really don't like audio haha but of course I have to use it. I rely on the mini xlr and I use both an XLR Sennheiser shotgun and a 3.5 Jack Rode mic. I also have the DJI wireless transmitter kit. The Sennheiser is what I use most of the time for doco, especially for interviews.
Hello 👋
Can you share some footages you take with this new camera and give your insights. The Focus system and how it works .. I am also planning for this camera but not sure yet , It would be great help if we can see how you use it in real time, do some bts of test footage ..
I’ll share some footage very soon, working on it as we speak :)
Thank you so much ,pl make an honest review video .. i am keenly waiting for it .. all the best @@OfTwoLands
Looking forward to a PYXIS 6k pro with intetnal nds ^^
Me too ☺️🔥
I’m definitely buying one, box camera is the best. Im getting the monitor really cool
@@alberto.jaramillo Nice!!
Looking forward to watch you review and footage!
Thanks mate!!
Excellent first breakdown mate! Keen to see all the places and projects you’ll be taking it too, I’ll have my popcorn ready!
Thank you. Looking forward to your documentary and outdoor setup. Also wondering how this cam would work for occasional virtual production setup, any thoughts? Does it have gen lock?
Very nice! I am looking for a neat V-mount solution for power delivery. Though, I haven't seen many accessories/cage options that support such a solution. I'm leaning towards buying the top and side plate of 8sinn but those don't include a direct solution for a v-mount plate. Ideally I would like to see a battery plate that connects to the top plate such as Tilta has done on the fx6. I have seen Tilta's prototype at IBC but that doesn't sit flush with the back of the pyxis. I would love to see a v mount option that sits as close as possible to the back but still allows room for the sdi ports/media ports. Of course you can always go for a rod solution but that does add bulk. Does anybody have any good solutions they are looking at?
The cage shown here has 3” 15mm rods that mount directly to the back-so you can mount any AB or V battery plate to the cage and slide it as close to the camera as you like.
Get the broadcast 6k V2 instead
@@WillvonTagen Yes good one, it is a nice solution however I would love to see something like that with just a top plate instead of a cage which adds bulk and weight. Thanks for letting me know though!
Greetings from Australia. Thanks for the video. I am looking forward to your future videos about this camera.
Hey mate, thank you ☺️🎥
Hmm no prores, (therefore no super sampling), no interchangeable mounts and that screen 😮. Think of all the extra mounting points they could have put there. I was really looking for a reason to go back to bm but if you have the 6k this is just a side step. Don’t get me wrong I love Bm (use bmraw all the time) just a little confused as to why they omitted these seemingly obvious features.
Seen loads of bad videos about this camera. But to me it seems so so tempting, full frame, braw and the price holly crap its incredible for what you get!!! . I've been enjoying using the 6k pro for as few short films and this looks way better
One more question ,Lenses
I owe sony Fx3 ,Sony A7s3 and other sony cameras , i use Most GM sony Lenses ,never used a blackmagic before ,my question if i buy a L mount verson of the same camera ,can i use Sony Gm lenses on this body ?
Pl reply this comment
in term of the side screen. In menu setting page 4. There is a function allow the screen to be in the saving mode, which in case not being used, the screen will be turned off to save some battery. This is handy when the Pyxis monitor arriving this Q4
Great review! The camera looks great. Do you know of any companies that are making VND Lens adapters? (Like L - EF)?
Thank you!! I am not sure but NISI, Meike and Mofage make similar kinds of adapters so maybe they have that.
Congratulations for your quality videos. Will you use the sigma mc 21 adapter for Canon lenses with this Pyxis? TNK in Advanced 🤙
Looking forward for the comparison between PYXIS 6K Vs. Cinema Camera 6K. Would be great to talk about how would they differ when it comes to handheld footage and using the focus puller. Thanks
Would a simple laptop style usb-c to HDMI adapter allow you to plug in an HDMI monitor (which would have to get power from batteries etc of course)? I know it's a simple displayport connection but I don't know if those adapters work with that to convert to HDMI. Thanks for the video!
I would have gotten one if it could at least do 50fps for the full sensor at 6k and more codec options than just BRAW. I also hate when cameras can’t downsample from the full sensor and have to crop in for lower resolutions, completely ruins the point of it being full frame for me. I’ll just save up my money and see what BM or Nikon, now that they bought Red, will do
Is it possible to get a V-mount or Goldmount battery directly connected? It looks like the ports on the back of the camera would be in the way sort of like how Zcam was and Tilta with a v mount extension now the new Zcam is pointed more to the side. I would love to get the L-mount as well , I full set of pro L-mount lenses and PL .. I can’t use my L-mount lenses on the Zcam . I was hoping they would come out with an adapter but so far they haven’t.
It's weird because you can get a used Ursa G2 for the same price with better specs, unfortunately only 4K res. But still.....
Plus NDs and (2) XLT
😂😂
I think as always it depends on the person and the work. I had the G2 and I much prefer for the Pyxis or the Pocket line for example.
Ursa G2 doesn't have Gen 5 Color Science though.
@@OfTwoLands interesting, why is that?
Thanks for that quick insight! How high does the optical center sit above the rods when using this cage?
No worries! I haven't used the cage yet so not too sure but I don't think it is tall enough for LWS if that's what you are thinking about.
Always great content! 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks ☺️🙏
Excited to see what you create with this! 🤙🤙
Thank you!! :)
Is this like… newer than the other blackmagic box camera?
Didn’t they just come out with that? Or is this different?
@@TheSteveKinney It is the new one :)
It seems to me that those who already have a pocket camera should not change it for this camera.
Does it have same iso performance as black magic full frame ?
WOW Congrats. The Pyxis looks amazing. It is so small!!!
Thanks!! So much smaller than I thought haha
Hi, can u use a usb-c to hdmi adapter to attach a monitor over the evf port?
Fantastic video as always Florent! If you do end up getting the new monitor, I would love to know if it works with the BMCC6K? Thank you!
Thanks so much!! I don't think it will be I'll double check :)
@@OfTwoLands Great thank you very much, stay awesome!
I already emailed Blackmagic and asked. Unfortunately the new monitor won’t work with any other camera due to hardware limitations.
@@matt.banton Hey Matt, thank you so much for letting me know! It was a long shot but that makes sense. Hope you have a great weekend!
@@matt.banton Hey Matt, thank you very much for letting me know! It was a long shot but that makes sense. Hope you have a great weekend!
Is the auto focus comparable to the Panasonic S5 II and are these box cameras water resistant? Would using it outside when it rains cause problems? Thanks
This caméra is waterproof and Can go as deep as the Titanic.
NICE! I am waiting for mine. Now we need PYXIS 8k. BM take my money🤑. Please rig it up everything you can throw on this and tell us what you think, cause I seriously want to make it look like a monster when I get one...🤣
😂🫡
So are the 60fps 4K modes cropped in or downsampled? Just curious because it shows a S35 and S16 crops for certain framerates but not for the 60fps modes.
This sensor seems to be the IMX410 which cannot physically downsampled 6k above 46fps. It's physically impossible. It could have done so by reducing the readout to 10bit linear but sony didn't include a readout mode like that at all
4k modes are a s35 crop
would love to see some more resolutions like 2.8k 120fps or 1080 140 or 160fps, bulti in nds in maybe a future design and thats when ill probably pick one up but if they add more resolutions ill be picking one up, 2.8k especially 120fps is big in my work flow
The Pyxis Pro should be a beast! I think they could do 4K 120.
Nice. I’m quite surprised the BPU35 only lasted an hour though. Same as an NPF550 in the BMCC6k, but a battery about half the size. Great that you can put a bigger battery like a BPU90 in obviously, but I imagine a lot of people will just add a v-mount plate
That was continuous though, took it out today and I shot for an hour on and off and hard half left ☺️👍
I’m waiting for the Pro version as the BMCC 6K FF is beautiful. But will definitely be getting L-mount or maybe PL.
The Pro is going to be 🔥🔥🔥
Is it true that this one has a 16:9 mode in 5/6k?
Brilliant! Can’t wait to see the rigging video
Looks gorgeous! Thanks for sharing mate
Thanks for watching mate!!
I'm intersted to get either BLACKMAGIC PYXIS 6K or BLACKMAGIC Cinema Camera 6K for a solo shoot. My question: If i wanted to achieve that handheld cinematic look without gittey movements in he footage. which one you think will help me to achieve that? Also which one will be easier to deal with manual focus consideing that i'll be a solo shoot. Thanks for your great contents
They both weight about the same. You would need to rig both up a bit so they are heavier. It’s the weight that makes handheld shots smoother.
Could you do a battery life comparison between 35, 70 and 98 watts bp-u batteries?
I have only the 35 and 70 but so far 1h constant with the 35. I’ve just came back from a test shoot and only used half after 1h of on and off with the 35 :)
Mais ??? What ??? Comment ça se fait que tu as reçu la Pyxis ??? J'ai préco la mienne en avril, et je check tous les jours sa livraison 😢 On m'a annoncé tellement de dates, que je crois que je l'aurai en 2025... PL mount.
Si j’ai bien compris ils livrent d’abord les versions L. Je crois qu’aucunes PL et EF on été livré encore!
Just got mine today! It feels so solid and so far the footage i got is looking great!
Nice!!
I really want to know If i can use the USB-c evf port with an USB-C to HDMI cable with a regular HDMI monitor. I cant find the answer anywhere. Thank you!
if not you can use a SDI to HDMI converter but to be fair why not using a SDI Monitor or the original monitor?
@@meyerdigitalfilm im thinking more about having multiple ports to use It with multiple acessories as transmitters such as cineye
I love Blackmagic cameras, but I’m really torn between upgrading my Pocket 6K to the Pyxis or the Ursa 12K (not the new Cinema 12K, the current one available). For me it’s about improving my image and camera form factor. Which would you recommend?
hello sir, can you us deesser aon your audio next upload pls? there's a lot of available plugins available for free, and can run in resolve. thanks
sorry for the out of topic tho. i think it would do us a fovor as your viewers... good luck!
I hate that side monitor placement. It’s a deal breaker for me. The mark II version should do away with that and just keep the detached monitor.
It won't have a tilt screen and it will stay thé same. It's not a gh5, it's a Real cinéma caméra.
Internal ND would have made this camera so good.
I’d say it would have made it even better! Probably next version :)
now add ND filters inside and baam, nothing can beat it.
Totally!!
Looking forward to seeing some footage from this. Having shot with the BMPCC4K, I have an idea how nice the footage will turn out. But, love seeing samples from new cameras. Subscribed.
Can you turn off the side screen to save battery?
I don't think you can unfortunately!
If it’s anything like the full frame camera you can turn the brightness down to save a bit of battery
What was the cost in India
Never seen a "Short" that was this long...
I watched the entire thing lol
Haha thanks, but who said it was short?
The power draw of this camera is 60W whereas the BMCC FF uses half of it. Any idea why?
Not sure why! Different thermal design. But then again the BPU I tested is 35wh and it latest nearly an hour so doesn't seem to be 60w unless I don't understand haha!
I would love to know your battery setup and the backup this camera gives.. Thankyou and all the best ❤
Looking forward to more pyxis videos especially a comparison with the current BM cinema camera. That cage is the most thought out and thorough cage I ever seen!
Curious to see a reasonable run n gun/ gimbal setup with this camera.
I have a 6k pro, do you think I should upgrade to that pyxis? I shoot short films and stuff!
Also, I'm wondering if you could help identify this cage: ruclips.net/video/YPJEhSOFH_s/видео.html
I've heard and read some people say tilta, but I don't see any specific branding unless I'm missing it completely. But this is the cage that I'm going for! That bp to v mount was the push over the line for me. Super happy that your Pyxis in with you as well! Happy filming!
It’s not necessarily true that a camera with the same sensor is supposed to reproduce the same 1:1 image. For example LUMIX S5II and S5II(x) produce slightly different images. Would still be interesting to see how they would fare up
Holy crap, that side by side of the Pyxis and the 6K ff... definitely worth the wait and me selling my pocket 6Ks. I can't wait!
Great video Flo, really enjoyed it, feel I have been waiting for this video more than the camera itself. I feel more and more that a BMD camera is probably what I should get though now I have the C200 ( even though its now old and therefore crap) it just does everything I need for my work and the raw is great. The C80 is also lovely the thing i need now really is a small b cam that will work with what I have. Iam thinking c70 or r6ii
Thanks so much mate!!
I loved my C200 and C100, whatever gets the job done and suits your style :). That Pyxis is something else though haha!!
@@OfTwoLands yeah for sure the images that you share are awesome and if I could justify it I'd be very tempted for sure! The c70 is actually more tempting for me ATM than the c80. But as you say good enough generally is good enough
Yes, it's the same sensor, but better thermal design.
Yes!
Miam miam, j'ai hâte de la tester 🤩🤩!!
Haha moi aussi :) !!
Does it has linear focus custom setting for focus rotation degrees, like Panasonic cameras, so we can use like cine lens focus rotation?
Thanks for the video but in almost every way this avoided the issues of all the design elements of the camera but rather just listed them. I appreciate that you have had it for just one day but almost everything about this camera screams bad design. To mitigate that poor design accessories that are yet again proprietary have to be added. The sooner black magic release what was asked for with no screen but include the external monitor at a lower price but with more function buttons a vnd and autofocus system the better. This is truly moronic design and it’s hard to know where to start. It’s not just the screen. If it isn’t please explain the choices made by bm with a little more critical analysis as a user. I appreciate that isnt really your style but it’s really time that camera users and designers woke up. Just fyi. Is there any manufacturer that has designed a video camcorder with a fixed screen on the side? Ever?? It’s not clear if this camera was bought by you and of course if the camera has been given to you then perhaps the cost of adding accessories isn’t an issue. Also the cage kind of looks ridiculous. Given the size of the camera there are only so many things that you can add to the cage before accessories start impeding each other. More poor design I’m afraid. Truly bizarre how so much design has gone backwards purely because it’s not being done by good designers. Despite all that the image is stunning and it comes with da Vinci resolve. For that most people would forgive bm almost anything and I am one of those people. Almost anything being the operative words. The fact is the bm are unique and should always be appreciated and applauded despite the fact that they make mistakes. Their triumphs are truly ground breaking. Thx for the video and have fun with the camera.
Wow. Find a camera you prefer and buy that… OR design and build your own since you seem to be such an expert about electrical and mechanical engineering. Your complaints truly make zero sense. You want everything possible under the sun and you want it for no cost. A camera itself is the cheapest and simplest element of any film project. If you can’t afford it or make it work for you then you probably should look into another industry to work or have a hobby with.
@@WillvonTagen I don’t quite understand your comments. I have many cameras I prefer. Obviously I have bought them. I’m not sure why you think i wouldn’t have but thanks for suggesting someone so erroneous. As for designing a camera myself it’s not that difficult but there is no need. Practically any cine camera from canon Red or Sony or even Panasonic or z cam or kinefinity would be better designed in almost every way. The specs I suggest are no more than an fx6 or canon c300iii. Have you heard of them? Hardly controversial. I have both. And a red and many different mirrorless and bm cameras. I’m not sure what qualifications anyone needs to have to see obvious design flaws and to note the complete lack of balls of people who don’t call it out when it’s so blatant. I can quite honestly say that there probably isn’t a camera make or type that I haven’t used but that wouldn’t qualify me to make the criticisms I have made. Any product designer from any industry would see the obvious flaws. I am shocked by how defensive and nonsensical your comments are. Why??
Do you find the image to be better than your ursa 12k with the full frame sensor on the camera ?
Can the side monitor be turned off when using the EVF or secondary monitor?
I spoke with some representatives and they told me some adapters have screws that screw in the adapter directly into the L mount. Haven’t done my research on the topic yet but sounds interesting.
just wonder what is a difference between bm 6k pro. same sensor ect. is it just a shape?
Is the IQ the same as the BMCC6K including the high ISO?

I got that Dtap cable so should be a good option! Maybe they’ll make a plate later like for the Ursa.
Placed my order for it today, just because of your review specifically. Thank you
Nice!! Happy shooting ☺️🎥
Hope that Blackmagic someday is going to include Phase-Detect AF and AFC. And a more fleshed-out stills photography mode. Really like BRAW still frames for taking photos but the post-processing is a bit annoying.
I get that some might need what you're asking for, but other manufacturers already do the same thing, and they do it better. It would be like asking Haagen-Dazs to make spaghetti.
I definitely think mid49's Pyxis solution is better than this one... but it also looks better catered to how I like to run my cameras;
It's great that we have different options for different style!
I 10:50 can’t wait this will be my first BlackMagic camera so excited!!🎥
Nice!!
Do you think that a simple setup made of body, BM new monitor, lens, NPU battery and a small handle would work fine for solo shooters? I like that is small and compact and in case I’ll buy one, that’s how I would like to use it.
I really think so yes and I intend to shoot that way a lot too!
The body style seems better for rigging in a documentary project, but do you find the lack of ND and low light performance an issue?
Since I have used the 6KFF the lack of ND is actually not a massive issue as I often use cinema IRNDs or VND. Low light has never been a problem for me and I've shot quite a few times is super low light.
I’d love a comparison with the 6KFF even though they share the same sensor, I got some rumors from someone at BM that the delay on the Pyxis was because they were tweaking some things because of the amount of complaints from the sensor performance, personally I would love to get the Pyxis but I’m kind of afraid to do it since the 6KFF was offered as a deal for just $1500, for a better build quality and a monitor that’s sold separately with an SDI port as an extra I don’t know if it’s worth it if it’s the same performance as the 6KFF
A few people have asked about this so will do my best asap as always ☺️👍
@@OfTwoLands appreciate it, love your work man, cheers from Honduras 🇭🇳!
