The sisters are emotionally stuck at the ages of when they first experienced major hurt from and disappointment in their parents. That's why they have the communication styles of little children...they are emotionally immature.
FirstLady Anita Thank you...just my observations as a counselor, working with individuals who are stuck in and have become comfortable with dysfunction and chaos.
whatcha howsya I see that too. The biggest thing I see in Tamar is that she’s the scape goat, and that child acts out the family dysfunction. Everyone else acts as if they have i together, Tamar is probably the most authentic one in the group. In many ways, she is looked at as the problem (and she definitely causes some), but it’s easier to blame her and not look at the parents- especially the mom. No one can admit to the harm she has caused. Her involving the kids in her anger toward their father is completely inappropriate and abusive!
@@DarlaReborn That's what I've always said. Evelyn is a HUGE component in Tamar's attitude, personality and obnoxiousness, but she swears she had nothing to do with Tamar's turnout. Tamar’s “stubbornness” comes from her childhood trauma. Childhood trauma affects your adult behavior. Like how she got mad about her birthday party...not only childhood trauma but her parents’ relationship, PTSD, molestation, etc. Tamar was attentive for the first few minutes of the interview until Iyanla hit a soft spot on her. She didn’t tell her family she was molested and it wasn’t Iyanla’s job to tell them. Respect goes both ways. Iyanla is a therapist. She’s supposed to be sympathetic and understanding of her client. She was not sympathetic of Tamar as a therapist is supposed to be. Tamar’s approach was wrong but all she did was display anger. Is that not what you’re supposed to do in “therapy”? Why didn’t anyone talk about how Tamar apologized to each and every one of her sisters for all her wrongdoings?
THANK YOU!!!! I’ve been trying to tell people this but they are so stuck on how Tamar acts that they never try to figure out the cause of it. Like I heard someone say “People tend to act the age that they were hurt at”
Keyon Powers i was thinking the same thing. Tamar was probably the most impressionable when the parents were going through their drama and it has manifested in her personality.
Ms Evelyn is in such denial about herself and her daughters. She blames everything on their father and that man has moved on with his life and is happy. She doesn’t own her part in anything. Our children are a clear reflection of the good and bad in us parents. And she is looking at 5 versions of herself and don’t wanna believe she taught them to be this way. They didn’t learn it out of nowhere.
Poor Ms. Evelyn shut completely down during and after the divorce from her husband. That kind of hurt sticks with you for a long time if you let it...and she did. Her daughters basically watched their mother go through a tremendous ordeal, as well as there own and it was never discussed or handled. Nobody wants to accept responsibility for their family issues but honestly it's start with the parents.
You hit the nail right on the carpet. Evelyn needs to take ownership. I remember a few episodes where she cut the girls off because she didn't want to hear what they was expressing. She wouldn't tell them important things concerning to them. She would say it's none of their business. Then she didn't want to clear the air with their Father and their Stepmother on vacation to have a mutual understanding of something that happened years ago. So yes Ms. Evelyn your Daughters got your personality rather you like it or not
MMh, if children are a reflection of their parents, why did you only mention one parent? Obviously, they both have issues and maybe that's not her issue. In my marriage, it definitely isn't me that's bad with communication and lots of men are. I don't doubt that he is responsible for that. Especially if she tried communicating with him multiple times and nothing ever was resolved, the kids pick up on that. It's not just her.
Evelyn is the perfect example of a woman who is so bitter she has become toxic and is in complete denial. She refuses to take responsibility for anything. She will continue to be miserable until she lets go of all her anger and resentment towards this man who has moved on with his life.
Wow Scorpio for Real that is so true and the sisters know it but they are afraid to "hurt" their mother but the truth is they are all hurting behind their mothers actions. The dad is able to reconcile but Ms. E's bitterness is deep and she is not letting it go! She need to see Iyanla independently but she is too prideful! They think their mother's pride makes her strong but the reality is that it makes her very weak and fragile.
Are you saying she's bitter because she understandably wants NOTHING to do with? I don't get that concept. There children are extra grown women. There is absolutely NO reason for her to have to deal with him if she doesn't want to. The issues they have need to be worked out within themselves individually. That's why they continue to repeat the cycle (every season).
Boom!! I've been saying this since they started having issues. The parents have a lot to do with the way the girls communicate. It doesn't matter how grown everyone perceives them to be, the fact is they were hurt as children and instead of healing, they swept it under the rug. Well the rug can't fit no more under it. They need individual and family counseling, all of em!
LuvPnk82 oh I been aware of this fact for awhile now , their parents can't stand to be n the same room n same setting w out arguing and never communicating properly ... n the mom has always been so bitter and miserable ... back before the cheating n after when it all came out they obviously had the miscommunication then (parents ) n the way they showed that To the kids passed on as how they dealt w their issues .
@Luna T I don't agree. One person can't be the root of a whole family's problems. People are very quick to make Tamar the villain because of who she is. They all have a role in the dysfunction. Iyanla said it best, it's from the head down.
@@kingreyna8714 he knew that Evelyn wouldn't take any blame but put everything on him. She the type that taught the daughters to sing but would slap them in the face for not getting a note right
I hate to say it but miss E is bullheaded "stubborn" and in denial of any wrong doing on her part. As you can see she's blaming all the bad on their father. I don't think this is going to turn out good.
Ms. E has this bitterness and unforgiveness about her that I can clearly see. The girls said they are afraid to say things and be honest because they don't want to upset the parents. There's more going on here than we realize. And yes, it starts with what their parents modeled for them.
@human being Yes he did all of that over a decade ago. I understand how miss E feels because I've been hurt before. However life goes on so she needs to move on for her own happiness and sanity. Maybe because of the way her marriage ended, could be the reason she don't have a man and never remarried. She passed on all of her ill feelings towards men to her daughters. All men are not the same. There are good men out there.
She's angry that her husband left her for another woman probably for the same nasty attitude she have now and she still bitter about it and she would never get over it because he left her with seven children or six
These girls are afraid of their momma Evelyn comes off as a bully she invalidated their emotional responses growing up so they learned to shut up. She did the same with the husband. She thinks she is flawless.
Ms. Evelyn comes off as one of those mothers that no matter how wrong they may be. You better not say it to her and even when you try to communicate to her how she made you feel in the most respectful way possible she will turn it around and say you disrespected her. She is a peace of work. I don't condone cheating but part of me can see why Mr. BRAXTON left her. She is mean and cantankerous
Amen to most of the comments below... they are scared to speak up to their Mother! I am very familiar to that kind of relationship... it’s toxic and you kinda ignore it... but it doesn’t get better and leave you with unhealthy relationships with other people if you don’t get professional help! Pray to be different with your own children.... God has been my rock when it came to both of my parents....🙏
Miss E annoys me. She has 5 daughters who had all had serious relationship problems with cheaters and liars. She needs to take a deep look inside and think about how she might have played a hand in that.
How is that her fault? She's not the one who cheated and lied, I believe that responsibility would lie with their father, not her. Why do we blame the woman for everything?
Mr. Braxton has allowed the enemy to sift his entire family like wheat! Ms. Evelyn needs to stop playing the righteous victim, forgive her ex-husband so she and her children can heal. They have the capacity to show everyone how to rebuild relationships by simply listening and hearing one another and then owning their part in the dysfunction and correcting it.
@human being just because he did that doesnt have nothing to do with Evelyn holding onto the pain of it for that long. She is stunting her own growth trying to punish him. Her own ego is keeping her stuck.
Why is everyone being so hard on the mom...All this started when her no good, lying, cheating husband..Their father, cheated on the mother. With someone for 7 years and later married her. You don't think that hurts and have impact on the family. Not just Ms. Evelyn. That efforts the daughters too. Why you think they all choice lying and cheating guys. Because that's who their daddy is...Don't blame the mama for every damn thing..It starts and end with the cheating daddy. Who married his mistress of 7 years..Damn!
@@deeperbeauty4147 You've said the same thing up and down this thread. Her being cheated on doesn't mean she's absolved of bad personality traits or bad behavior, as they damaged those kids well before the affair and the divorce.
Toni disclosed in her autobiography that her mother relocated from South Carolina to Maryland when she was 12 or 13 years of age. In particular, Ms. Evelyn experienced something in her childhood that she refused to disclose or that she refused to discuss her childhood altogether (can't remember which one). Anyhoo, that really stuck out to me & I would say that "secret" or trauma is the root of her personality & communication dynamics.
Shanda J. I knew it was more to this family...cause that bitterness, hurt and anger that Ms E wear on her face comes from more than just her husband cheated and left
@Amber Coleman did the father ignore his kids or did the mother make them feel they had to choose. Cuz Traci close to the father but not the sisters or Ms E and you have to ask yourself why is that?

They assume the wrong things and create issues. Very nasty towards one another, their parents. And they take sides too much. Then turn it on the Mr. Michael Senior. Reason why he and Traci are super close. Ms. Evelyn has worn that victim suit too long, and has passed pieces onto her children. The father has tried to mend things, and be better. The mother needs to learn how to heal.
@@djjames2324 The mother is holding on to hurt. Everything is going on with them, is because the experience was traumatic for them at those young ages. So their minds and hurt and growth stopped where the trauma came in. From there, everything after that was just covers. No cameras, nor large amount of money is going to make one happy, and bring them peace. It may for a short while, but look at the cost of what...?
And Tamar gets shut down a lot for being the one to wanna talk about & possibly resolve it. I agree with her! They always try to make it she's doing too much, but she means well.
I don’t think so. In her particular case, I think she has a hard time accepting that her parents are divorced and is still holding on to hope they will get back together
Toni looks so beautiful !! I want to say this ,they need forgive their dad , he is getting older and he could go at anytime God forbid. My dad passed away all of a sudden, wish my dad was still alive I never got to say goodbye, never got to cook him his 70th birthday dinner he didn’t even make it to his 70th bday They are so blessed to still have both parents that stuff that happened decades ago let it go and forgive it sets you free in more ways than one! The sisters need to forgive each other etc I wish my two older sisters loved me or even just talk to me but they don’t like me for being born and lies our mother has said about me but I forgive them and move on .
musiclover thank you for your story. I lost both my parents and none of made it to their 70s. I lost them back to back which leave me to believe😔. My dad came and got her💔
So sorry for your loss. And that's what I say! Not many people their ages still have both parents. They are very blessed. Their parents have more days behind them then ahead and life is way too short.
I see Ms E differently. I'm starting to think her bitterness has disrupted the pattern (in my Iyanla voice). Lol. And Tamar, Tamar, Tamar. Honneeyyy you are so disrespectful. You are way too old to be acting like you still 5. It was so painful to watch you and all that head swinging and twitching. is soooo annoying.
reavleeful that’s how she is so oh well, people need to get the hell over it. No grown person is gonna keep letting people talk to them any kind of damn way and especially when they are also opinionated
Tamar acts like a child because most likely there where her trauma happened she was molested as a child and she hasn't gotten past the 5 year old girl .... does that make sense
I don't ever remember Tamar acting this over the top. Some jealous person has slipped Tamar some bad stuff. Just a few years ago Tamar was on top and successful. More than her jealous sisters. Who were always making her odd man out, especially Twanda. Now, she and Twanda are close? Jesus Jesus, last days. Brother against brother, sister against sister and so on. Now she has no husband, no talk show, no album, and she is looking crazy. Be careful who you let get close to you. The new Tamar is scary, sad and a cautionary tail. Like Tina Turner said, sometimes you have to cut off family, for your own survival.
People in the comments talking about 'they're grown, quit blaming your parents' don't realize how much how you were raised effects you in adulthood. There's nothing wrong with acknowledging how your childhood effected you. It's not about placing blame, it's about dealing with issues and looking at uncomfortable truths about yourself and your family dynamic that cripples your behavior as an adult. You can't fully move on as an adult until you first look at the environment that you developed in, and you can't truly be grateful of your parents until you understand what they went through and recognize their humanity with all it's faults. There's a difference btwn placing blame and recognizing the truth for what it is so that you can learn from it and move on. People are complicated, and just b/c you're an 'adult' doesn't mean that the past can't still effect your present or that you have it all figured out, or that there's nothing more you can learn from or grow from or heal from.
That's exactly what Iyanla was aiming for and Ms.E knew it so that's why she quickly spoke up and said that the girls didn't get the lack of communication from her. SMH..wow
Their mom takes no responsibility for anything, she blames everything wrong on their dad. The hatred she has for him she poured into her kids and that's not cool. Parents divorce and the fact he was there for them their whole childhood should matter. Their mom comes off very angry and vindictive towards their dad

I can't stand Evelyn.... she represents a lot of parents in the black community from her era. They lack accountability, refuse to apologize and confuses expressing yourself for disrespect, no matter how old you are. I grew up with guardians like this and I'm still effected by it at 40 years old.
Did anyone ever ask where does Michael junior fit in all of this? What's his take? I would like to hear his standpoint on the dynamics of the family upbringing; and if Michael Senior was/wasn't there?
Let Evelyn tell it she’s taught them “right” 😱 ! here she comes with the bullshyt 🤦🏽♀️ smh I’m a mother of 2 and I’m always open to tell them I DON’T ALWAYS have the answers. I’m learning LIFE with you !!
The mother is a epitimay of somebody that is super duper bitter. We all go through things we never expected to happen but you have to make it through. She turned her daughter into emotional killers.
These women are all over 40. Their own Life experiences should have taught them by now to forgive and communicate. Stop blaming the parents. These women are grown with children!
At 1:22 when Miss E. said the kids didn't get their lack of communication from her, her ex let them papers drop in his lap like "What chu talkin' bout Willis"???? 😂😂😂
They didn't learn to communicate because their mother is still bitter against the father. Hes moved on but evelyn still gets angry being around him and new wife. But she dates so it should be in the past.
Ms Evelyn has her reasons. We do not know what really ended their marriage. " WERE WE THERE?" No I did not think so. But anyway I believe the dad did a wrong thing to Ms Evelyn & broke her heart. He messed around & left her with all the children. He did her deeply wrong. We as women )all get so hurt until we do not focus on the realty to forgive. But hopefully one day God will heal her heart and find the path to forgiveness. I like Ms Evelyn. No matter what anyone says she is still a wonderful mom. And she still looks great.
There was not a single head roll, or sour face in this clip, so what “faces” & “disrespect” are you referring to?? Y’all say shit that isn’t even related to the video JUST to attack her 🙄
Maximus Leone - you’re calling her “bald headed ass” AS IF she didn’t voluntarily shave her head bald... and even if she hadn’t, that’s even more lame of you to use that as an insult 🤡
Miss Evelyn needs to own her shortcomings and understand it doesn't make you a bad or a failure, it makes you human. She can't grow or learn if she can't admit, apologize, and work towards changing to handle things in a healthier way.
Toni you have just as much have a beautiful speaking voice as you do singing voice. And you're almost painful to look at you're so beautiful. And you seem like a wise so with a good heart.
Toneys face is errting! Alwaz appears calm and present. Her voice is calming too. Hopefully the mother can learn to open up and show the ladies, it will save them all.
N. Ray 2 much botox. It doesn't allow the face muscles to move which is why she suggests has the same unmoved expression which is really no expression at all. She's beautiful but looks like a mannequin. "Calm" as u put it...lol
I kinda bothered with Evelyn keeps rooling her eyes and seems so annoyed whenever Iyanla talks. She always feels that she's right, and she even felt that Iyanla was purposely picking on Tamar.
This is why Evelyn didn't want to participate. She KNEW that she would be exposed. No, she is not to blame for everything the family goes through, but that toxic inability to move on and forgive, while stewing in rage, comes directly from her. It seems she also enjoyed making her girls lapdogs against their father. Traci was close to her father, therefore she was on Mommy's shitlist
There are issues and problems in every family. This isn't just Moma Evelyn's problem. Didn't the father do some unfaithful, degrading things to their mother. Wouldn't the father's unfaithfulness also hurt the daughters? I believe Moma Evelyn did her best to stick by her daughter's. And still kept herself together. I commend this mother for her strength. Of course she has her faults. But what person doesn't? The parents love their children. I still believe this family is blessed.
Keeping herself together is the problem she wasn't together she was hurt and broken and she pretended she wasn't for her daughter's and that lie has damaged them because now they live the same fake lives that Evelyn taught them to live

Mama E also has to take ownership for her actions/shortcomings and the role that played in her marriage and her children's upbringing too. She had to be whatever her perception of strong is and keep moving for her kids' sake but she didn't take the time out to heal past the hurt and anger she felt. She seems to not have mastered the art of forgiveness and how that could benefit her and not her ex husband. And that's what hinders her. Prayers for that family.
The question I would ask would be..."Was there something that HAPPENED TO YOU AS A CHILD that YOU NEVER TOLD ANYONE or GOT HELP FOR???"... That may open up the floodgates...
Jojo Saylor I don't think she communicates at all... She covers everything up without getting to the bottom of the issues... She's also still angry at her ex husband and the weight of that anger is apparent...

Ok so they confuse me with the timeline of the divorce. Here they say they were kids when they’re parents divorced, but other times have said it was when they were grown when it happened. Toni said it happened months before she got married and didn’t even know if her dad was gonna show up to walk her down the aisle. & I remember one episode of The Real where Tamar said she was like 21 yrs old when they divorced but she was still devastated. So what’s the truth??
KuroiNekoxoxo chile...idk Lol I’m still confused. But even if it did take that long by that time no one should have even been surprised. They just been holding on to it for dear life and it has ruined them
I think he left when they were young but who knows when they actually got a divorce. Remember he had been cheating for a while, then moved out. So saying we're getting a divorce was probably when he to Ms E he was leaving. A lot of times black folks don't actually get a divorce.
The Braxton’s communicate very well; they’re just stubborn women got it from their mom. She holds on to the past & wont let go; you can see it in her attitude towards their dad.Tamar hates hearing the truth & refuses to change.
Tamar took on ms.evelyns persona, everything evelyn said & thought, being the last in the house, why evelyn defends tamars bad behavior & hates Traci for still talking w/ the father & his wife....evelyn & the sisters said so & Traci said so
There were two people in that marriage, and if this is the kind of stuff she’d say decades removed, I could only imagine how she got down when they were married.
Staying bitter that long only hurts Ms E. and her daughters. I'm sure she was very vocal about what her husband did, with good reason, but you simply should not visit that hatred on your daughters. I can relate to the depth and breath of the hurt and anger she felt when betrayed. When it happened to me (not cheating) I was murderous. My kids were in their 20s but the situation in the house had affected them. I had to first learn not to go off every time they mentioned their dad. Then I had to work on my bitterness because it was holding me back, making my blood pressure high. It's been 4 yrs and when my dad died, we handled it like a family. Ms E decades long bitterness affected her daughters. So did the low-down behavior of their father. They need to talk to someone. Clearly, neither parent was available. One wrapped up in hatred, the other all about himself. Now Ms. refuses to even entertain the idea that she may have some ownership in how her daughters interact.
Traci say a lot about the family when she is alone but quiet with them it is like she is intimidated by all of them that is so sad.And like Iyalla said her face show the sadness.🙁
Their father seems like the type of man who drove around the block after work to avoid going home to Evelyn.

Ms Evelyn is in such denial about herself and her daughters. She blames everything on their father and that man has moved on with his life and is happy. She doesn’t own her part in anything.
Scorpio for Real
Preach it!! You hit the nail on the head!!
This.
You got to find a better word for somebody having an affair for 11 years with somebody that you knew and then married her I wonder how you would be
Wow Scorpio for Real that is so true and the sisters know it but they are afraid to "hurt" their mother but the truth is they are all hurting behind their mothers actions.
Thats true
@Luna T Exactly
LuvPnk82 oh I been aware of this fact for awhile now , their parents can't stand to be n the same room n same setting w out arguing and never communicating properly ... n the mom has always been so bitter and miserable ... back before the cheating n after when it all came out they obviously had the miscommunication then (parents ) n the way they showed that
To the kids passed on as how they dealt w their issues .
@Luna T I don't agree. One person can't be the root of a whole family's problems. People are very quick to make Tamar the villain because of who she is. They all have a role in the dysfunction. Iyanla said it best, it's from the head down.
I agree but they do love one another they'll work it in time.
When Evelyn said they didn't get it from me the daddy looked at her ass like 🙄🤨

Yeap, I agreed with you. Also, the mom plays a big factor on her daughters personality and attitude.
She's angry that her husband left her for another woman probably for the same nasty attitude she have now and she still bitter about it and she would never get over it because he left her with seven children or six
Exactly. That's why I say she's a key factor in having kept the dysfunction going all this time.
These girls are afraid of their momma Evelyn comes off as a bully she invalidated their emotional responses growing up so they learned to shut up. She did the same with the husband. She thinks she is flawless.
Earthmother29 🌷Beautifully written.

Jazzy One I’m on the same page as you!! She’s too bitter after ALL THESE YEARS STILL to accept her part!
How is that her fault? She's not the one who cheated and lied, I believe that responsibility would lie with their father, not her. Why do we blame the woman for everything?
Yup
Not Tracey but the others....
human being Thank you, it’s pathetic
@Kay You He doesnt have to own it for her to move past it. Shes in her own way.

@@deeperbeauty4147 You've said the same thing up and down this thread. Her being cheated on doesn't mean she's absolved of bad personality traits or bad behavior, as they damaged those kids well before the affair and the divorce.
Is why she more hurt bc the cheating embarrassed her not bc she loved that man so much
Toni disclosed in her autobiography that her mother relocated from South Carolina to Maryland when she was 12 or 13 years of age.

Soooooo annyoying she is too damn old. Shes overcompensating for no hair with the EXTRAness is her had twitches
@Sandra it is an act. WeTV's producers direct her to do exactly what she does because if she didn't would people watch?

I think he left when they were young but who knows when they actually got a divorce. Remember he had been cheating for a while, then moved out. So saying we're getting a divorce was probably when he to Ms E he was leaving. A lot of times black folks don't actually get a divorce.
Also there is a ten year age gap between Toni and Tamar. So Toni could’ve been grown while Tamar was a child and then all the ages in between.
Tamar was 23 when they divorced in 2000.

Mz E clearly is still hurting from that no good man stepping out on her. Huh! ,😡
There were two people in that marriage, and if this is the kind of stuff she’d say decades removed, I could only imagine how she got down when they were married.
Lol I laughed when the mother said that statement at the end ain't get it from me must come from your daddy now that was funny who else laughed
Tamar is a reflection of her mother. Sis , it can’t be everybody ,
Ms. E had me 😭 and so was Mr. Braxton. She redirected quick
Toni Braxton, the only honest and real person in the circle.
Well we see where Tamar get's her attitude from. And she has the audacity to blame the father. If I was that poor man, I wouldn't stay either.
Ms.E's true self is really being exposed. She has a certain....nastiness....meanness. My guess, the truth of her marriage still burns her.
She has that older church lady nice-nasty thing going.
I just wanna know how Toni is the damn oldest and look the damn youngest!!!! Beautiful!!!!!
Toni is beautiful😍❤
They must have took it from their father they didn’t get it from me. Lmao 😂
Evelyn just pointing the finger SMDH
Wow, you are right Toni communication is taught....I have to do better with my toddlers because they are always frustrated and yelling
Ms Evelyn is hurting 🙏 for her please don't forget the daddy did her wrong and it hurt i understand Tamar is truly the problem believe that..
Saverne Carter I’m sure someone thinks the same about your ass. 🙄 you don’t know her to make that dumb ass comment

@@ceeceedior21 u can hurt your entire life.....
It seems like they all want to confront Evelyn but are affraid to. Soon as she spoke the whole room was like " YOU" that's where it comes from.
Whoever told Tamar that she looks good like that lied to her. That is a horrible look on her.
They were not children when their parents they were grown
Ms e is still hurt from the fact that her husband left her awwwww
She actually left him
