As a Brit watching the US fall apart, the $1000 theft law was the weirdest reaction I’ve seen to a problem, 100% something horribly fishy is going on. You don’t solve a problem by making it 100% easier to commit the problem.

They were overwhelmed with petty crime, and couldn't hire more cops due to corruption eating at the budgets. So in order to reduce the bureaucratic burden they basically legalized all misdemeanors... which lead to WAY more crime. Progressives don't think like normal people... And do they look in the mirror and think "gee, maybe that wasn't the right move?" No. Stuff just happens, randomly, and they bear no responsibility.

My theory is they’re pushing for lawlessness which will allow the powers that be to employ a national police like every other authoritarian and utterly corrupt country. They have a hard time controlling all the various police and sheriff’s departments.

I was rebuilding after being bankrupted in 2008-2010. Now people are coming here after selling off their assets in California, New York and other places and having an excess income to buy here in cash. Housing costs have now doubled here since 2020. Corporations have moved in and are buying up housing and property. A day doesn’t go by without getting a call, emails or mail from some companies making an offer to buy my house. Not many people talk about NC but I can tell ya even in the smaller districts like mine who have a total population for the entire county at 45k and a population of our town being 5k my daughters school saw over 100 student increase from summer's end to the new school year. That is an entire extra classroom for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade at one school. Local Charity organizations to help low income families are gone, stripped bare and the goods are being taken to the next county over and sold at outdoor flea markets which damn near are completely run by illegals. Go out to dinner, well the days of quiet dining with your family is over, now the entire place no matter where you go in the county is packed full of illegals with a bunch of kids and the kids are the only ones there that even speak english. Our entire demographic has been thrown into upheaval and everyone is struggling to get back to some kind of normalcy although I know it will never be normal again. It is in my opinion like we have opened the sanctuary to an apex predator that does nothing but consume. It takes, takes, takes and gives nothing back and when everything is gone, it moves somewhere else.

It’s mostly empty. The cities are gone. SF, LA, Long Beach. Homelessness is rampant in coastal cities. I live inland. It’s still the same here. My county is purple. 50/50 split. We just voted to study secession. The weather here is amazing. It’s Mediterranean. No humidity, no bugs, sunny 90% of the time. We can’t affect the deep blue voting. Driving businesses out of the state and such. I would move if I was young and especially with kids. No way I would send my kids to government schools. I am on the board of a private Christian K thru 8. Back to your original statement. All of those $1M to $6M houses. California still has most of the innovators in the nation. We still send 50% of the athletes to the Summer Olympics. This state has a lot of self created problems, but it also has some of the smartest, hardest working people in the nation.
