    For water heating have you considered a Isotemp water heater with engine coolant loop for the heat exchanger. Lots of hot water plus small 750 watt heating element included for those days you are not driving. I would also recommend 3M 90 high temp contact cement to keep the havelock where you put it. The 90 still holds up in the hot days where regular contact cement melts and releases.

    • @JonniesJourney
      @JonniesJourney  3 года назад +1

      Will definitely check out that Isotemp water heater. great idea with the spray adhesive I wonder if the chemical breaks down the wool. That would probably be the way to go if not.

    Everyone would love to have a JCV. ( Jonnies Custom Van ). Amazing craftsmanship and you cant tell everything is well put together. I really believe if you build another one there would be something you may not like. Its like designing your home afterwards you wish you would of had something here or there. A lot depends on the climate and road conditions etc. There are so many things we love about our rig and so many thing we dont. But I don’t have your amazing talent. @@JonniesJourney Hi Jonnie, I am right now watching this video while taking a break from installing my sheep's wool insulation into my pro master. I got the knops, so I'm blowing in the sheep's wool. It sounds like you used the batts/sheets entirely. First, I had learned that those sheets are to be stapled at the top to prevent settling. But that's too late for you and doesn't address my situation since I'm using the loose fill "knops." Did you learn anything that might address settling if one is using the loose knops rather than the sheets/batts? I'd appreciate anything you can share. I'll be traveling regularly in very cold climates in the winter months and need to make sure I get this right. I haven't found any articles that address settling with my type of insulation. Anything you can share would be greatly appreciated! Thank you either way , excellent video!

    Great video and we agree with these items. We do have a small on board propane tank and carry some in our trailer. So happy we did that. We are waiting for our swing away hitch for the back so hopefully we won't need the bigger trailer. Good advice on the havelock wool. If our insulation was bad when the RV center did the electrical, we were going to use the havelock wool but we had foam board insulation and reflectix in the doors, so to save money we just kept it since it looked just fine and no mold anywhere. People will definitely learn what not to do from this video.

    • @JonniesJourney
      @JonniesJourney  3 года назад +1

      Thank you guys I really appreciate the support. The swing away hitch is going to be perfect. I would do a left swing if possible, I always feel like people go right but left will keep it out of site when camp is set up and it will be closer to your hook up.

    It's funny how when you do a build you think you have it just how you want it. But then after camping a time or two you realize you should have done this different or that different. We, too, changed things along the way. I 'think' we have it where we are happy with it right now. But that doesn't mean we won't still run across something in the future that we wish we had done different or want to change.

    What a great review you have given for your van build. I feel it is a process and you always learn. I am actually having Embassy RV build mine out which I know is more expensive. They do a controlled custom so some things are set and some things have flexibility depending on the chassis you are building it out on. I didn't want propane and I love their solution for hot water using a hydronic water heater using electric and using the antifreeze pumping through while driving to heat the water. They also use marine products with 23 gallon bladders (2 one for the fresh water and one for the grey) When the fresh is full and used it goes into the grey bladder. Since these two are on top of each other it they always takes the same room as the fresh will go into the grey tank etc. You are amazing doing the build yourself and your Van looks awesome. Always appreciate your content.

    Thanks for reviewing your own choices and sharing pros/cons with us! I always figured (in my so-far imaginary van) that I'd take a good look at Polyiso, EPS, and XPS. No settling, no moisture absorption, light weight. Love the idea of long storage drawers. I was also thinking that for anything built from wood, I'd use marine birch. Stronger, thinner, lighter than regular plywood. Oh no, I'm thinking about it again....

    Thanks so much for this. I had the same concern about the wool settling and now you’ve confirmed it. I just started installing my wool today and I think I’ve found a solution. Great food for thought. This will help many on a future build and get them thinking about these kind of things. Overall the issues you have aren’t that bad in the grand scheme. Modify that back kitchen. It can be done. I know there’s things I could have done differently or better on my never ending project. Proper tools are one thing I wish at the start of my project I would have had access to. Very important! I still think you did a fabulous build.

      @@JonniesJourney I just learned that Ryobi has an inverter out now. Works off of the batteries that go with the other tools. Looks to be half of the cost of a portable inverter similar to yours but at the 300 watt level. I need a new impact anyway. So for less than two hundred for that setup. I’ll do a review in the future after purchasing because I’m sold on that.

      Can you tell me, would all terrain tires on an extended base, front wheel drive, pro master be suitable for winter/snow/ice driving in the Colorado mountains and iced over streets in the Midwest USA? I won't do a lot of off road driving but I'm older and can't handle digging out a stuck vehicle; I've got to make the absolute best choice for winter driving. As it is, I have to drive dirt roads just to get in and out of my home in the mountains to get my groceries and get stuck when it's icy or sloppy wet (tires spinning in the mud). By chance, do you know, are snow tires better than all terrain? Thank you much for anything you can share!

      Andrea I had someone leave a comment about putting a timer on my water heater and it got me thinking. I put a soft touch switch at the head of my bed and wired it to my water heater. now I can wake up and turn it on without even going outside and then turn off when done. Love it. it still drains the battery down about 30% but... is much more doable. Thank you for watching

    Heyyyy Jonnie? You seem to be pretty connected with the community in Arizona, and I was wondering- is there someone you may have in mind out there who could really use some “easy money,” by towing my daughters Chevy Cobalt from Tucson to Jackson Missouri? She’s a Dialysis Technician transferring over there, and she THOUGHT she had hired an outfit to do that for her, but they turned out to be a fly by night place that won’t take her calls, 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️. She was gonna pay them 850.00. I sure would like that money to go to really help someone but I don’t know if any message boards or anything to announce to. She just needs it there to start work by March 6th. What do you think??
