- 2024 Dodge Challenger - Earlier this month, Dodge announced its ‘Hemi’ family of V8 engines would no longer be fitted to the Challenger coupe and Charger sedan from late 2023 - with a new era of ‘eMuscle’ cars to instead harness electric power.
However, while some versions of Dodge’s future muscle cars will adopt electric motors - previewed last week as the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept - it now appears some versions may continue to be offered with petrol engines from an all-new, six-cylinder ‘Hurricane’ engine family.
The adoption of the twin-turbo inline-six in the new-generation Dodge muscle cars has been rumoured in US media in recent months.
However, information seen by Drive points to the Hurricane six-cylinder engine being adopted by the Challenger and Charger, thanks to an online post by a former worker.
As an employee of Stellantis - Dodge’s parent company which includes brands such as Jeep and Ram, among others - the product engineer claimed he helped with creating new exhaust components for the Hurricane in the Challenger and Charger, according to one of his social media profiles.

I’ll pass on a crappy EV Dodge Charger and Challenger. I also don’t want a 6 cylinder muscle car!!!!! That doesn’t even sound right to me. The Dodge brand is going to lose a lot of customers!!!

@@kbcorpyes they will be but that’s only because instead of simply adding this ev crap too the hemi already and making an awd monster or even going turbos like they did in the hurricane they chose to abandon it for cash and epa reasons. Doesn’t mean it’s faster. A fbo hellcat with a ported blower on e can beat a plaid at the drag strip 2wd not 4. So just because it comes factory with more power doesn’t mean it’s superior it just shows they sold out.

Seriously i have a V6 CHALLENGER GT PLUS RWD & it has plenty of power- enough to squeal tire everytime i pull out of somewhere not even trying, mine has the TRACK PACK PACKAGE. People ❤ my car & no it's not a HEMI, but it has more than enough power!!!

345 yes....but I think the power in our cars is underrated. Someone in my club told me the real HP of the 5.7 in the Challenger is closer to 450....maybe near 500. He said they lied about the power like they did in the 60s and 70s.....im not sure myself but I've heard this from several people and have read it on various forums.

@@raypezzoli2517I just got my hands on a 2012 rt Challenger 3 months ago with 52k miles on it... slightly modded & a cat back x-pipe exhaust. The 5.7 ain't no slouch! Love this car, and I'm never getting rid of it. 💪🇺🇲
That reminds me I've got a call the Ford dealership and set up an appointment to look at a Mustang GT 5.0. I'm not doing the electric and I'm not doing the V6

The twin turbo is going to lighten up the car while keeping the power for sure but it will definitely gain some hate from people that only care about the v8

You can’t run turbos or SC reliably on a track. So for those of us who like to track our sports cars that’s one less option to buy. Teslas overheat just as much after 10 laps as FI gas engines on the track so that’s not a solution either. V8 NA are the most reliable around a track and and have the least heat issues. So they will definitely be losing customers. That is the whole point you buy a sports car, not everyone buys sports cars to pose with them at the grocery store.

Glad I picked up my hellcat in 2020. Dirt cheap, fully loaded, every option except the stupid red seat belts. Drives like an absolute dream and gets so much attention and compliments even just stop light to stop light. Meanwhile the Twin turbo, 3.0 Liter Inline 6 is absolute junk as we've now seen it in vehicles like the wagoneer. It gets terrible gas mileage, is under powered and actually gets worse gas mileage than the 5.7 Hemi which is faster and makes more torque and power.
Stellantis is ruining dodge by catering to garbage European engine standards.

The current ho hurricane has 510hp and 500tq, not too shabby. I'm hoping the tune it to at least 525 for the Charger.
Times change. Dont be so quick to dismiss. I have a 4cyl Mustang and its quick as szzt. Top speed 155mph. 29.8 mpg. Its nimble and fun to drive. Ot doesn't growl, but it does hiss like a snake. I love it.

I'm glad I special ordered a 2022 Challenger scat pack widebody manual with the Hemi orange appearance package when I did. EV's are garbage. True car enthusiasts don't just focus on going stupid fast but focus on the drive itself. The sound, vibrations, feedback, etc.... Take all of that away and you just have a boring drive.
