- Subaru is very popular wherever the weather is unpredictable and a Seattle snowstorm is a reminder why. Tom Voelk takes a 2012 Subaru Impreza 5-Door through sun, rain, snow and ice. See how how it handles the sloppy stuff.

Watching this video in 2021, this man is a TP prophet
4:13 Stockpiling early for covid I see 🤣
He saw it coming 8 years ago. Amazing!
didn't know david bowie did car reviews
This predicted the future 8 years in advance
Tom I really like your reviews. They are always very informative, interesting to watch and well thought.
Tom, great review as always. You're probably the best all around car reviewer I watch. Keep it up!
This is the first video I've watched so far from this youtube channel. My thoughts, Tom is extremely professional and on point. I got a chuckle out of the comment about past Impreza's having a "drinking problem". I've never heard anyone put it that way and I liked that bit of humor thrown in. This was a great video; I will be watching more from this channel and I hope the rest of Tom's videos are just as excellent! In my opinion it's videos like this that earn subscriptions.
Tom everyone should have the chance to watch your reviews! Informative and entertaining.. rare in car reviews!!
@theboss878878 And I grew up in Minnesota. Northern Minnesota. No, that wasn't much snow when we shot but it was the only chance I had to get running footage. A few hours later it accumulated to about 8 inches of snow and they don't plow the roads in Seattle. So the car did well even though the ground clearance isn't raised much.
You have been given a divine car reviewing gift
your reveiw is spot on I had a impreza hatch as a loaner last week when my forester xt was in the shop great car I was getting 36 mpg in mostly highway driving my only grip was the dark interior(like you) and I couldn't fit my doberman in it ( that's why I own a 04 forester xt manual transmission lol)
This new Impreza reminds me a lot of the 05 version that I'm driving. The best part is I am able to see the front hood while in the driver's seat which makes it much easier when parking.
@porsche558 Those were my first thoughts when I first discovered this channel as well. The reviews are unbiased, professional, and down-to-Earth with a little humor thrown in. Always a pleasure to watch.
One thing for sure, Steve will never ever run out of toilet paper at his place... LOL. Serioulsy though, I do like him and his reviews are always really good, he's doing a good job !!
Good job, Tom. One day you will become real famous, keep pushing it, you're great at this!
@razioth Correct. For its price it's fun to drive.
Great review
great, ive been looking at this for a while and it looks like something that would fit me. thanks
Now its 2021, and in the UK there are only five left for sale on Auto Trader. There were six but ive just bought one with very low mileage. Rare cars here now. Tough and dependable, meant to last, not meant for fast !
It is. It's fun to fling around the corners, and it grips because, well, its a Subaru. It's a great car.
Really good review
Tom, I came to this video to ask you WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? I miss your videos! You're the BEST!
@miangel9058 Yes, good call. Lancer SE does come with AWD and CVT for about 22K.
@judah777 I saw 27 overall but considering that most of it was in slippery snow and the rest was city driving I'd say it's pretty good.
FYI, I'm working on the Crosstrek review now. Should be on my website by the end of the week or so.
Might not have the best 0-60 but passing power in real life is decent. With a manual at 3.2k rpm it jumps up fast
Thinking of buying one of these. I live in Canada where it snows... A lot. Does anyone recommend one for winter weather?
A masterpiece.
I have over 3000 miles on my sedan manual, and am averaging around 29MPG, mostly 35MPH non-stop-and-go driving, but with a mix of that and highway and some limited city. Overall, I'm thrilled with the milage on it.
@cadreamin45 I saw approx 23, most mileage was in city. My MPG isn't really applicable to the everyday since 4 of the days was slogging through snow. That will seriously cut down fuel economy.
love this car.
Tom would you please do xv review soon. Im considering these two with the xv slightly ahead for looks.
Just test drove this car last Friday. It was sluggish, even with stick. Nice interior knobs and switches. Interior overall was nice. But that 2.0 is "adequate". The turbo in the Cruze is much nicer. The SKYACTIV 3 is really nice. The Si is nice as well.
@DrivenCarReviews gosh it's beautiful...
Maybe. There's so many new cars to get to these days it's hard to get to refreshed models. If I did though, the Outback would be higher on the list than most.
Not always a AWD model in my country, we also have a FWD option which will be probably around 200 pounds lighter.
@theboss878878 Not any time soon, I have a long line of cars to get though (and don't generally do pickups).
My dream car!!!
EPA number is only for reference,
The driving style & environment is the key element for real world fuel efficiency.
a car for all season
2:56 AVG. MPG = 21.3 Was is it being driven differently than normal? Thought it was 27/36?
so the crosstrek is "just a lifted impresza" is that a good thing or a bad thing lol
@silversteen9 That was the first video I've rented in months since I rarely ever have time to watch anything these days. Generally my wife gets our DVDs from the library which is free. Even better than Netflix. Also I like Blueray for the pic quality. Streaming video blows.
Any plans to review the refreshed 2013 Outback?
love this car love this review im from oregon and this car would be great
cant wait for the outback sport abd cvt / auto PEE UUU
Do have front bumper part available in blue colour
I love this car so far! :)
I hate how people say ALL AWD car's are heavy gas drinkers. When this is obviously NOT TRUE NOW!!!!! Thanks to Subaru & CVT'S (Even Though CVT's are annoying) This AWD car get's MORE MPG then the 2012 Toyota Corolla!!!!!!
@Goremaster MPG is 20/26 and prices start at around $22,400. Definitely more expensive and thirsty than Impreza.
Great review. I think they look decent still. Not saying it needs 20s but maybe plus1 on the wheels and tires would make it look less cartoonish. I like this a lot even if its not a wrx. :)
@DrivenCarReviews wow the regular lancer now has available AWD? I really didn't know that! I'm happy Subaru gets some direct competition (it's about time, the lancer being the ultimate impreza rival)
vs Crosstrek 2014?
heard this was also one of those cars where if you put Blizak tires on it its great in the snow. 450 dollars in reality is a small price to pay for something like that.
@LeadHammer by boring I assume you talk about the looks and not the driving dynamics right?
bought one. it a great car , takes a little time to get used to the transmission but once you do, it's just fine .. just different..the car is very good value in my opinion.much better than my 2011 Toyota piece of junk..
about the tires
I live in a very very hot area but the streets are unbelievably slippery (search ?v=V1aG7qYTWxA)
so i was wondering if using a winter tires will help with the traction ?
will it suffer from the extreme hot wither ??
please please help me
I just got out of a major accident only because of the glass like streets
Nice video as always, but I laughed when I saw it did 0-60 in 9.5s. I mean when I was younger, I had to drive a 4-speed automatic jeep liberty 4x4 and that car could do it in less than 9.5s. If you get this car, be happy with the great fuel economy and handling but don't try to overtake anyone except maybe a loaded semi.
What kind of gas milage did you get with the manual transmission?
Impreza
Subaru took parts from other car manufacturers successful cars and joined them together lightly restyled and slapped together to make a new car.
Mazda 3 (2nd Gen) rear C pillar for both the sedan and hatch.
Honda Civic (8th Gen) front door and mirror (with mirror no longer attached to pillar)
Honda City (5th Gen) rear tail lights
Honda Civic (8th Gen JDM Asian market) head lights.
To be fair, the gas mileage has improved at least in part because HP output has gone down from from a robust 170 to a so-so 148. Don't know why no one ever mentions this. Still, great car though, and nice review.
I was driving it hard in snowy, slushy conditions. Like all cars, it lowers fuel economy.
Where is this filmed?
you own a 2012 one? would you say that its fun to drive?
very good review the only problem i see with it is it looks a bit bland in styling
@123Rosko Seattle
Never understood why people felt previous Impreza's had a "drinking problem"...I had an 02' WRX, and I honestly felt it had plenty...I suppose it depends alot on where and how you drive, but that's how I felt on it *shrug
I bit of an idiotic question, but where do you get your music for your reviews?
I don't know why people slam this car. I think its a big improvement over the previous one. The only thing I liked better on the previous model was the rear fascia.
It's on my list. I couldn't get away to do the event so I have to wait for a press car.
30mpg for an awd car is great. How about how the car drives? I've heard many people complain about how sluggish the car feel.
2024 Genesis G90?
@Goremaster it SHOULD get in the high thirties, but it is rare for the Matrix I believe
Can you do a Mercedes w221
the actual 0-60 is 7.9 sec for manual
Subaru makes solid cars but even up here in MI, 4 wheel drive is totally unnecessary unless you live on some gravel road. Wish there was an FWD version
why called 5 door?
Hey! you shop at costco.
@jsiszero I do not
That toe!
Feet all crazy
Hey, evil twin -- did you get the memo about the weather?
looks like lexus CT from outside design
@MrMauiboy89 I owe you a loco moco then
Another car that comes to mind is mitsubishi lancer
2:21 like if you notice the rear wiper turning on :)
chevy equinox lt fwd 2019.
Those toes at 3:21 thats a little gross but besides that love the video
All of his videos are like this
no netflix tom? lol
Where is the fifth door
The hatchback
@DrivenCarReviews i watch steve hammes too, but i like tom voelk better.
Just one Low Subaru XV
Put on some fucking shoes quasimoto
lol...im pretty sure he is a one man crew..
Seriously, deal with it.
*sigh* C'mon, everyone knows he's referring to snow.
Eww his foot
Still pretty ho hum styling, that headliner looks like genuine mouse fur...not the good type either. No power ports in the back seat, seriously why would anyone still do that? Good job on the review, though it looks like you're missing a toe....just saying.
Kinda racist coment . It looks good on white!
dam thats slow
seriously you guys could have edited that guys gross feet out the video.
