I have the envilo. For the most part I keep the bike on 2 and use the gears. I do have a very steep hill, which I have it on 5 and it’s a bit of a struggle. It’s rare I go above 2.
@@VideoNOLA it’s not an option on Costco version. I called Priority direct and the Enviolo was more expensive but they gave me a discount. It depends on where your riding, flat or hills. I love the Enviolo but I’ve got no prior experience riding any other electric bike. I bought it based on several RUclips videos and I love it. I weigh 230 lbs and it flys.
I have the Shimano version - it works well in the Hollywood Hills. It does require at least a little bit of physical ability tho (I'm old and fat at 56 years and 230 pounds and I can manage a lot of these hills lol). I look at it this way: It'll get me up any hill that I'm brave enough to ride back down!
@@mistyluv261 I haven't ridden up that hill (I assume you mean Manhattan Beach Bl), but I know it - it's similar to Beachwood Drive near where I live. Running all the way up your hill would be pretty easy - Max assist and probably 2nd gear at the lowest. I'd just watch out for the traffic tho!
@@james-p are you very happy with your bike. do you have regrets on not buying something else. I am right about to get the priority current unless someone tells me there is something better out there for the same price.
@@mistyluv261 I've had it for a year now, and I love it! It has lots of power, and it's comfortable to ride. The only thing I'd keep in mind is that I'm a recreational rider, not a commuter. If I were commuting, riding the 20+ mile round trip to work on the major streets every day, I would want a bike with a suspension (and those cost a lot more money). I ride in residential neighborhoods where there are just a few cars going by, and occasionally on the main streets in Hollywood for short trips like to the pet store or the barbershop which are a few blocks away. I just rode it 26 miles the Sunday before last at Ciclavia (no cars) and it was a blast! So no, I have no regrets - I still haven't seen another in this price range that I would rather have bought. Oh, and another note - that 26 mile ride used only about 15% of the battery since it was mostly level ground riding and I had the assist turned off most of the time. It's actually a nice bike to ride just as a plain old bicycle, without assist.
I was going to buy a Priority bike with a Shimano hub but now I am second guessing that decision. Would the Eviolo hub had made that climb a lot easier? I am 66 and it looked like the gearing of that bike made your uphill ride a bit tougher than you expected. I am not sure if the amount of assist is enough for me. What do you think?
Glad we could help visually demonstrate how the current performs. Yes, the enviolo hub would have made the hill climb a tad easier. The Priority Current is still an outstanding bike. I think if you live in a very hilly terrain then it's definitely something to consider upgrading to the enviolo, but if you're mostly gonna be using it as a commuter to work or wherever on flat ground then the Shimano performs just fine. Check out our other Priority Current videos as well :)
If it's not too late, I have the enviolo model and it eats hills. Can go 20 mph up one, it gives a ton of assistance. I would recommend the enviolo version
@@taylorrule3977 I assume you have the enviolo model. I am considering the Current but the lack of a hand throttle is really bothering me. I hear the gearing at high speeds is off and that you peddle like crazy at high speeds. Since it's peddle assist and torque driven at that, it seems you have to peddle crazy fast and with pressure to keep the high speed assist going. I'd like to just relax and have the bike zip me along at times so I can rest. What are your thoughts?
I am really interested in getting this bike.. I think this bike has 140 nm of torque which is a ton.. It must be geared higher so that you have to shift very low to make it up the hills..
Hi Mark, yes we want to do some head to head tests. We just have to find two riders the same size. We have already started filming some more tests on Rad. Stay tuned to see more.
Who cares if it chokes hills - their customer service is crap. Do not buy a Rad. They are selling their plus 6 with faulty controller issues. They will not get back to you even when it is under warranty. The bike shipped with old food in the box. Just don’t go with Rad. Anyone.
Something is wrong about this- mid drive hill climb should outperform a hub motor- but that test was so slow even my heavy 750 watt hub would easily outperform that….mid drives use the gearing as a mechanical advantage and should do wayyyy better than this example
I thought the Current has a 500w mid drive motor, not a 250w. At least that's what it shows on their website.
You are correct we are updating it.
I thought it was a Bosch 250 mid drive motor. Are you confusing it with the battery specs. Also did anyone notice the front end easily shimmies?

have you ever been to the manhattan beach hill right by the pier? i wonder if you could get up that hill?
Maybe compare the Enviolo option on the Current next time. I’ve been told it may perform better on hills than the Shimano 5 speed.
If we can get our hands on an enviolo current we certainly will!
I’ve had the Current with the Enviolo for about a month now and wow, it’s amazing!
@@theslimshadyist Where did you buy yours? Don't see the Enviolo hub as an option on the Costco Next portal.
@@VideoNOLA I purchased directly from Priority.

Yes it is.
