I used your vid to put together a Harbor a Freight trailer for my Big Tuna. The Tuna was just to big to get on the top of my Suburban so your build was perfect. Easy launch and recovery! It took me a lot longer to build than it did you but it was pretty easy. Used you tube to learn how to pack the wheel bearings. Even the electrical hookup went in easily too. Grounding the wire to the trailer is key. Again RUclips to the rescue. Thanks Tony.
I can't not thank you enough for this video and inspiration. Picked up my pa 14 today, already had my trailer built and registered, 60 bucks at lowes and about 2 hours (mostly measuring) and I was able to build the set up you're rocking. I didn't grind my washers I found they bent snug once tightened, but a legit replica of your trailer build. Thanks again!
Yesterday, I finished my Kayak/bike trailer based on MOfishyaker and your design here and Uploaded a video of it. Thanks for your video here, I wouldn't have thought of it otherwise. Its gonna make getting to the water a lot easier.
Fantastic!! Thanks for taking the time to show how its done! I was just looking a collapsable & they wanted $1800. It would transport heavier but I don't need that for my Pro 14.
I made this same trailer for my PA 17T. It worked great. The only difference is I slid the PVC pipe further back and adjusted the front securing post as far forward as possible. It actually rides higher than I originally thought it would.
+Robert Pearl So your 17ft boat fits this trailer fine? im thinking of this same build but with a 16ft canoe. whats your suggestion? thank you for answers in advance
+Jamie Duffey I built this trailer with same material as this video with only minor adjustments. adjustments being I ran the PVC pipe about 20 inches off of the back of the trailer. additionally I pushed the front post as far forward as possible.
Finished my build out. Basically Identical to yours. Spent an extra $20 on bearing buddies and $60 on the spare tire and spare tire mount because I plan to do some long hauls with it. The bearing buddies were upgraded from the dust covers for the same reason. Cutting that superstrut was a bear using an angle grinder with a cutting wheel. Imagine the dremel tool took a long time to get through it. Had one bad tail light but harbor freight said they shipped me a new one already so I'm waiting on it. All in all, good project. Thank you so much for the idea. Also I'm using this to haul my Ocean Kayak trident 13 but it fits very well. I plan to get the PA 14 later and being able to adjust the supports made me feel better knowing it would fit any kayak I want to sit on it. Only thing I may do different once I get the PA is to buy the wing supports that Hobie sells, but I really don't think it is necessary.
About an hour ago, I finished my Harbor Freight trailer with the 3" PVC, for my Pro Angler 12. I built it from your RUclips video... with the Unistrut supports. Thank you for detailing it as you did. (I am a subscriber and appreciate your "work"!) I made some minor changes due to having a PA12, not a PA14. I cut the overall length of the PVC to 9 feet. The PVC overhang from the Unistrut is 15". The distance between the Hobie's front grab handle (resting on the black rubber roller) to the coupler is 33". I also rotated the bracket that holds the roller, so the grab handle rests "in" it. I was concerned about the wiring, so I ran all the wires inside the frame.
This must be an older model of trailer. After the video I went to Harbor Freight website, but they only have much bigger versions. Oh well it's still better than paying $1500 for a prebuilt kayak trailer. More versatile too. Thanks for the idea! Fellow TX kayak fisherman, BTW.
Awsome setup I was thinking about buying the trailer from harbor freight after watching your video im definitely getting one keep up the good work and the cheap diy's.....stay yaked!!!
After seeing your video, I decided to order a trailer today. Thanks for the coupon tip, every little bit helps. I'm down in Puerto Rico so the freight was more than the trailer itself, but there just aren't a lot of options. Some people "jury-rig" jet ski trailers, if you can find one, even then it's about the same money.
Great build !! I appreciate the ideas and am re-purposing my old boat trailer now to fit my Slayer Propel 13.2" Kayak ! Look forward to more of your videos !! Also liked your video of your wife capturing that Pit Bull mauling that other dog !! And the one about the Anchor Rope idea !! Good ideas for me
Jack Taylor Hi Jack! Glad I could help! That dog came out of nowhere man... Guy that grabbed it was brave.. Anyway, I've changed my anchoring rig and will be posting a video on it soon so stay tuned. I also sell a 8' fiberglass stake out pole that works great for shallow anchoring. There's a video on that coming as well.
I found on my outback and PA14 the 3” pvc pipes chaffed the underside of the kayak and had to wrap pipes with carpet to cushion them. I trailer mine all the time, usually 180 miles round trip. Maybe our roads are rougher out here in Kansas.
Dammit I bot a Malone kayak trailer for $1600 should have looked on youtube first. May still have to adapt this setup since my boat is a solo skiff which is 14.5' long. I just hate finding out I spent 300% more to do what could have been done much cheaper. Oh well.
I tried to buy one of those trailers on Labor Day from Harbor Freight. they gave me a big run around. At the end of the day It's around $700 with shipping along with something called a lift fee. Remember the old saying goes, "you get what you pay for" 100% And in this case. If you buy junk, then you work on junk, and you end up with junk.
I am hearing these conduits begin to crack and break with time and weight. I would suggest 2 x4 myself. I have not done so but will also use 2x4 maybe with carpet.
You really can't beat the trailer for the price, just don't forget to google search for the 20% off coupon. Glad I was able to help you and thanks for watching. C'mon!
+VentureTube i don't know if they didn't do this before but all of the coupons i find online exclude trailers... www.harborfreight.com/digitalsavings.html
Want one of these so bad, but HF does not carry them anymore and other distributors jacked the prices up. I want a trailer that will carry 3 or 4 kayaks, but still light enough to be towed by my car (1000 lb. max towing). I have an old 40"x48" HF that am going to modify, but it is going to be a pain in the butt.
Just ordered the same trailer from HFT. I found the 25% coupon using Google search which took $100 off, $328 shipped easy going. I plan to use your method to build as well but I do have a question about total measurements. What is the total length from tongue to rear lift handle on kayak? I plan to keep the yak on the trailer in my garage and need to know how much space I will need. Thanks! Subscribed
the coupon codes usually don't include trailers. sometimes they mess up on the website and you can get the 20% or sometimes if you sweet talk them at the store, they'll give it to you, but, if you look at the ads they send you, it specifically says no trailers, welders, motorcycle lifts, or anything else "high dollar" that you'd ever want 20% off of. :-/ however, that wasn't always the case.
Great video, dose the pic pipe have to be 3" I have just got 4" pipe to fit a outback I am getting shortly, just wondering will it be too big to slot in the bottom of the kayak.
I just ordered the new PA 14. But I was looking on Harbor freight tools. and they have about three different trailers which one did you get. I don't want to order the wrong one. Thanks Eric
+ezsimpson1 I just looked on Harbor freight's website and I don't see it. It was the boat trailer rated at 600 pounds and 14 feet long. Maybe give them a call?
Can I use regular 3" PVC-40 pipe for this add on? I have a 2 kayak trailer and want to carry the kayaks upright. i am thinking I can just bolt the PVC to the wood cross members?
VentureTube I was wondering as I ordered this trailer on Easter for 25% off and I only have a 10 foot Kayak that I will tow with a Fiat 500. I was thinking it may be possible to not enven use the unistrut and Just mount the Pvc to the Trailer frame . Is that the a reason that you use it as it is used for a 12-14 footer. Or Is it to raise the Kayak up . I plan on cutting the bar to the tounge back as I will just carry my 37 pound Kayak to the water. Thanks for the help
Did you pick the rest of the build materials up at lowes or HD or did you have to go to auto store for brackets? I am doing this build for my yak as well.
Thanks for the sub Jabris! I'm not sure what size the uni-strut is. I purchased it from Lowes and they only had two different kinds, heavy duty and regular. I got the heavy duty. Still works great! Hope this helps!
Yes it fits like it was made for it both in length and width. The pro angler hangs approximately 20" off of the conduit but the center of the kayak sits about a 18" in front of the axle. Works great launching and towing. Thanks for watching!
It's been awhile but I do know that the spring nuts weren't galvanized. They were in the same section as the Uni-Strut at Lowes. I sprayed both the Uni-Strut and spring nuts with galvanized spray paint.
I've got almost all of the materials to attempt a similar build on my used johnboat trailer. I couldn't see clear enough on your video what type of screws or bolts you used to go through the PVC and into the flat nuts above the springs ? When I bought my Unistrut , it only came with the spring and the flat nuts ....... No screws or bolts ? I couldn't tell if the hole you drilled into the top of the PVC was to get a long ratchet down ( if you used a bolt) or was just large enough to work a long screwdriver to a screw top ??? Can you provide some light on this Please ....... THANKS
What did you use to drill/cut the bigger top holes on the PVC so the washer would fit through it. I bought everything needed to do my trailer and the washers I got ar just shy of 1 1/2". I tried using a wood bit but didn't work....Nice job on the trailer and I enjoy watching your videos.
Hey man. Thanks for sharing. I am trying to set up the same trailer but I am having trouble finding the right sized U Bolts. I live around houston? . Can you please tell me where you got those. Thank you
Did you use square U-bolts or normal U shape ones to mount the unistrut to the frame? Also which size U-bolt did you go with? I am building this exact same setup now. Just got my trailer built. Thanks for any help,
COMETSHIP I used the round ones because they were cheaper. If I were you, I'd go with the square ones. They will make a tighter connection. I believe at a minumum they have to be 3.5 inches tall by 2.5 inches wide.
Hi Ken. I had google it years back.. I don't think they offer the coupon any longer. I've had several people asking about it so I assume they, Harbor Freight, was tired of losing money on the trailer.
Actually I did. Guess I got lucky. Never had any problems. The grease wasn't just on the outside of the bearing. It looked like it had been properly greased by pumping. They wouldn't do that with shipping grease...at least I don't think they would.
Have you put bigger tires on the trailer yet? I was thinkin of gettin it for my yak but I travel a long ways some time and the small tire just wont cut it.
No I haven't yet.. I've made several 3 hr trips with the small ones at 70 mph and so far so good. On the tire, it says its highway rated but I would still like to have some larger ones...just not in the budget yet.. Thanks for watching!
Thanks man, your videos led me to a final decision of getting PA14. I have a utility 6x10 trailer that I will build a platform on top of it to accommodate 2 yaks. Do you have an instagram account?
Hi venture tube I love this video!! One question for you: wether if it's 2x4 or conduit if it makes contact with the scupper hole would that be bad for it in the long run? Or should I try avoid setting the kayak on the scupper?
Yes I would avoid hitting the scuppers if possible. It's one of the weakest points on the yak. That's why I used the 3" conduit. Lots of support but nothing directly on the scuppers.
I went to order the trailer and they wanted to charge me $96.00 shipping not 6 bucks. This is an Internet order only, I tried calling to see if they had it in stock to avoid the 96 bucks but no luck they said internet order only. DAMN!
At the time I ordered, I put in the coupon code and boom it was done. Shipping was $6. Why? Probably because sales weren't as high on that particular trailer as they are now. This video is somewhat old. A lot of people are using these Harbor Freight trailers to tow their kayaks and I guess it's just a matter of supply and demand my friend.
I have a Jon boat trailer that I'm about to convert like this, similar to MOfishyaker's, do you have any issue with that 3" sch 40 sagging at all? Just wondering if I should run one more section of uni-strut.
I wouldn't be concerned with it sagging. That stuff is quite rigid. You would probably have to load your boat up with a lot of weight to make it sag at all. Even if it does sag slightly, it will conform to the hull of your yak, but no worries, that conduit is strong. Good luck with the build!
i want to do the same for just BIKES and KAYAK but i can't do any of this myself.. can you help? or suggest someone in florida? any used kayaks? jersey joel fort myers FL thanks for posting

I made this same trailer for my PA 17T. It worked great. The only difference is I slid the PVC pipe further back and adjusted the front securing post as far forward as possible.

Robert Pearl I love that 17t. good to know that this trailer works with it in case I decide to go that route one day. Thanks for watching!
+Robert Pearl So your 17ft boat fits this trailer fine? im thinking of this same build but with a 16ft canoe. whats your suggestion? thank you for answers in advance

I wish they still had those.
Yeah it was a great deal

You should be able to get 13 inch tires and rims at wal-mart that will make it hiway ready for cheap.
Gotta do that tomorrow. Picked up one today and brought it home in the plastic on wood bunks. Kept sliding to the side but this'll fix that nonsense 👍
Thanks I have been looking for a way to make a cradle in the bed of my truck. I am gonna use your idea.
Hope it works well for ya. Send me a video response when you finish your project. Good luck!
OK will try it, thanks for the great tips.
I am going to invest in one of those trailers. I am going to set mine up where I can still fold it up. I do not want it taking up half of my garage.
Great job very nice i have a jet ski trailer looking to put roof rack mounts onto unistrut for 2 yaks. Side by side
This is PERFECT...2014 here I come
Nice trailer.
Thanks!
Awesome, I got the same idea from him and it works great. Your looks great.
Thank you sir! Don't forget to sub!
Very Aussie spirit, great job mate.
Apparently HF doesn’t sell that model trailer anymore. I like the angled front. All the ones they have now are squared.
Looks great
Great video!
regression Thanks!
Thank you. Exactly what I was looking for my 18 foot cargo canoe with 4hp.. Awesome.
Kust saw this video..thank you so much!
You are so welcome!
What size bolt did you run through the conduit ?
I wonder how a PA 17 would fit on that trailer? I am about to pull the trigger on one with a Malone Megasport trailer. This would save me money.
I think you may have to extend the trailer tongue somewhat but I think it would be perfect otherwise.
Dammit I bot a Malone kayak trailer for $1600 should have looked on youtube first. May still have to adapt this setup since my boat is a solo skiff which is 14.5' long. I just hate finding out I spent 300% more to do what could have been done much cheaper. Oh well.

Instead of pipe I'm going to try treated 2x4s. They fit almost snug on kayak bottom grooves. I don't see why they wouldn't work. 😜
I am hearing these conduits begin to crack and break with time and weight. I would suggest 2 x4 myself. I have not done so but will also use 2x4 maybe with carpet.
What size bolts and how long of a bolt did you use for the conduit to unistrut?
Hi. Great unit! I cannot find a “ boat trailer” listed on Harbor Freight’s web page. Can you help? Thx.
I believe its discontinued..... its an old video.
What is the piece with the wheel on it that’s connected to the hitch
You really can't beat the trailer for the price, just don't forget to google search for the 20% off coupon. Glad I was able to help you and thanks for watching. C'mon!
+VentureTube i don't know if they didn't do this before but all of the coupons i find online exclude trailers...

Nice set up! What larger size tires do you think you can up grade to without having to modify the fenders?
How did this trailer hold up for you??

As long as you have 17', you should be just fine.
Will this fit a 12 foot hoodoo impulse 120 ?

@SoYaked TX Please subscribe if you haven't already. I need all the support I can get so I can keep these videos coming! Thanks!
Can’t seem to find trailer online???any help.
Great idea! My trailer will be delivered tomorrow! What size unistrut did you use?
Thanks for the sub Jabris! I'm not sure what size the uni-strut is. I purchased it from Lowes and they only had two different kinds, heavy duty and regular. I got the heavy duty. Still works great! Hope this helps!
Where is the coupon been trying to find it
does the PA 14' fit? How much of the boat hangs off the back of the trailer? Just to where the conduit overhangs? Thanks.
Yes it fits like it was made for it both in length and width. The pro angler hangs approximately 20" off of the conduit but the center of the kayak sits about a 18" in front of the axle. Works great launching and towing. Thanks for watching!
Can you elaborate on the spring nuts and bolts used ? Stainless steel spring nuts ?? Galvanized ?
It's been awhile but I do know that the spring nuts weren't galvanized. They were in the same section as the Uni-Strut at Lowes. I sprayed both the Uni-Strut and spring nuts with galvanized spray paint.
nice!!!
Indeed! Subscribe mang! ha
I've got almost all of the materials to attempt a similar build on my used johnboat trailer. Hi Scott. I used a hole saw drill bit.
Great video! You got a new subscriber!
Yak Motley Thanks bro!
Hey man. Thanks for sharing. I am trying to set up the same trailer but I am having trouble finding the right sized U Bolts. I live around houston? . Can you please tell me where you got those. Thank you
Andres Dos Santos You can purchase trailer u bolts at Academy or your local hardware store Lowes Home Depot ect... Thanks for watching!
Any problem with loading/unloading in saltwater? Any corrosion of the metals??
No but I didn't take her in the salt very often
Did you use square U-bolts or normal U shape ones to mount the unistrut to the frame? Also which size U-bolt did you go with? I am building this exact same setup now. Just got my trailer built. Thanks for any help,
COMETSHIP I used the round ones because they were cheaper. If I were you, I'd go with the square ones. They will make a tighter connection. I believe at a minumum they have to be 3.5 inches tall by 2.5 inches wide.
What's the length outside to outside of the fenders? I been trying to find online but couldn't find the spec on this trailer
I sold that trailer a while back.. I can't give you an exact measurement but I'd say it probably around 54" wide approximately
How did you go about curving those flat washers to fit the conduit? Like the idea I'm using it on my own trailer
+andrew louderback hammer and a round metal pole
Did the wheel bearings last long on it?
I no longer own this trailer but I never had any issues with the bearings.
I was wonder if you could let me know exactly what site you got the coupon from. Thanks
Hi Ken. I had google it years back.. I don't think they offer the coupon any longer. I've had several people asking about it so I assume they, Harbor Freight, was tired of losing money on the trailer.
I don't think they sell anything like this anymore, only the folding trailers
please tell me, that you did not leave the grease from the factory, in the hubs? that is shipping grease, it must be replaced.
Actually I did. Guess I got lucky. Never had any problems. The grease wasn't just on the outside of the bearing. It looked like it had been properly greased by pumping. They wouldn't do that with shipping grease...at least I don't think they would.
its right there in the instructions...... they use a clearish almost Vaseline looking shipping grease
How did you screw in those nuts inside the unistrut bar?
Those are designed for unistrut. You'll see them by the unistrut at your hardware store.
VentureTube sorry if I'm not understanding but what are "those" that you are referring to that will be able to screw in the nuts
VentureTube hex nut driver?
DubFishin yes a socket driver will do the trick
How far apart are the 2 sections of unistrut? I'm trying to fabricate my Malone Microsport trailer TIA
+Dtgoynes Mine are approximately 7' apart.
+VentureTube thanks bud
@dtgoynes Did you ever fabricate this on your Malone trailers?
nice rig bro!! whats the length on your conduit? 2015 hobie PA 14 is DA BOMB!!
Trey Arceneaux Thanks man! 10 feet lengths. Bomb.com homie
Tony, do you think there's enough space for 2x PA 14's?
If you vertically stacked them, yes...side by side, no sir
Thanks man, your videos led me to a final decision of getting PA14. I have a utility 6x10 trailer that I will build a platform on top of it to accommodate 2 yaks. Do you have an instagram account?
I do although i'm not on it much. Look me up man.
How long did you cut the pipes? I have a PA 12 I know it will be shorter. Thanks in advance.
+VentureTube ok just wondering because I have the 2x4 full length on my kayak but it blocks the scupper hole.
+VentureTube do u think if it touches a little it will be ok? Does your fully miss the scupper
I went to order the trailer and they wanted to charge me $96.00 shipping not 6 bucks.
This is an Internet order only, I tried calling to see if they had it in stock to avoid the 96 bucks but no luck they said internet order only. DAMN!
MrDeerhtr Why can't you order from the internet then??
What I'm saying is how did you get it for $6.00 shipping? They wanna charge me $96 bucks shipping from an Internet order.
Damn you lucked out. Any new posts coming on the new mods to the trailer?
Ever put bigger tires on that thing yet?
Got on harborfreight and cant find this trailer.
This video is very old.
Awesome thanks for posting. Do you have a link to the coupon?
Hi David. Just google Harbor Freight coupons. They change all the time. You can use codes from sites like www.retailmenot.com Thanks for watching!
hi Tony can you give me some measure ments im after the center hole spaceing for the pvc pipe bolts please
I realize that this video is a few years old, but I was just wondering if this same idea will work for a 14 ft. jon boat?
I have a Jon boat trailer that I'm about to convert like this, similar to MOfishyaker's, do you have any issue with that 3" sch 40 sagging at all? Just wondering if I should run one more section of uni-strut.
I wouldn't be concerned with it sagging. That stuff is quite rigid. You would probably have to load your boat up with a lot of weight to make it sag at all. Even if it does sag slightly, it will conform to the hull of your yak, but no worries, that conduit is strong. Good luck with the build!
Trailer is completed, turned out pretty nice, thanks for the idea!
which trailer is this from Harbor Freight?
The 14ft jon boat trailer
By the way I subscribed!
Thanks for the sub Bob!
or stainless steel?
What do you have to register for?
Thatkidwhofishes 1 Trailers must be registered just like a car if it's going to be pulled down the road. It's the law. Thanks for watching bud!
VentureTube dont have to register trailers here in Charleston SC
Is the trailer aluminum?
by the way they do not accept the 20% or the 25% online coupon for trailers anymore trailers anymore.
How do you strap it down
Anderson Potter I just use two ratchet style straps. One of the front grab bar, and another across the stern of the kayak.
Still use it? Still like it?
Could you get 2 native slayers (32" wide each ) on this trailer?
+Everything Outdoors I'll take some measurements today and let you know.
What kind of speeds do you take this to?
+Tom Lofgren I've had it up to 80 for extended periods with no problems. I still am using this trailer and have the original tires still on.
What size is that trailer?
but is it saltwater compatible?
No it doesn't agree with the salt haha
i want to do the same for just BIKES and KAYAK but i can't do any of this myself.. can you help? or suggest someone in florida? any used kayaks?

thanks for posting
Without a plywood floor on the trailer, how does the kayak do with road grime and dirt and such??
Never had road grime issues. Plus, I pedal so fast that nothing could hold on to the bottom of my yak haha!!
I can’t find the 600 pound trailer
They no longer sell boat trailers (2020).
cable ties.👍🏻😊
