I've watched countless Dji videos and this has been by far one of the most informative and helpful. Thank you!
Nice job! And fairly balanced comparison. I totally agree with you on the "prop guard issue". Knowing a little about static and dynamic air flow over a fixed aperturance, I have eschewed prop guards from the beginning. They interrupt the dynamic airflow (lift and thrust) of the props, affecting stability, responsiveness and run time. As to the "plastic vs. carbon fiber" argument, I have only this to say; I ran my Phantom 2V into a tree with stock plastic blades, the tree was unharmed but I lost 2 props, sheared off at the mid-point. Compass calibration issues brought me into another tree sometime later while using carbon fiber props, the tree still won but not without losing a few twigs and leaves on the way down. 2 of the props were chipped, but I was still able to continue flying with them for the rest of the outing (yes, some stability was lost, but still flying, not an option with plastic).
Valuable information. I've also heard that balancing props with white or black electrical tape is good also, doesnt require shaving. If you use black tape, it's obvious when it falls off and needs to get back on. Cheaper and easier to do than shaving. I like the drill bit, smart !
Good stuff. Thanks for taking the time to share your findings. I have prop guards and have suspected that they hinder performance. You have verified my suspicions...Thanks!!
Fast forward in 2020, the countefeit is even worse. I got a set from Aliexpress, guesss, one blade was approx 20% heavier then the other. Spent quite a bit of time with the dremel and extra ballancing with tape to get them to shape. Nice review and very useful even 6 years later!!!
The new plastic props are supposed to be tighter to screw on, this help STOP the blades coming off when performing heavy breaking. New ones will be tight, older ones that have been on and off many times become loose.
Hi Will, thanks so much for making this video. I just bought a new quad & couldnt get the 9540 props onto the hubs. the 5/16" drill out worked like a treat.. Champion!!
So, why not just pay a little extra for the oem props that are near perfect right out of the package? Why support "counterfit" props? Thanks for the demo! Seems like the verdict is clear... DJI props are probably the best choice and we support the originators :)
+Frederick Dunn They are not counterfeit and I don't like that erm. Counterfeit would be if they tried to pass themselves off as DJI. Some good 3rd part props and gear out there. DJI over charges for most crap.
I get you don't want to put any extra time into it so buy dji. enjoy.
+Richard Strapple Just going with the title of the video... "Counterfeit vs. Genuine"....
As long as the hub is properly centered on the rod, then achieving perfect balance should improve motor bearing lifespan.
I feel when you spend between 500 and $1500 for a quad copter which I do own a vision 2 plus. It's cheaper in the long one to buy the Genuine equipment. You get what you pay for.
Thx for the time you have put into this. I do not own a phantom but i use the E305 4s tuned propulsion system on one of my own builds that comes with a set of 9450's. I will try a DJI 9433 set and see if i get better flight times.
Excellent tutorial on the props
I read a few times that the carbon fibre props on the Phantoms at least, increased the jello effect. Maybe being stiffer causes the problem. Plus I would rather be hit by the plastic originals then the fibre ones. I dare say you could loose a bit more skin lol.
Sounds like you hit things consistently. I don't hit things but then, I build my own quads so performance, flight times and safety are extremely important. Carbon fiber out preforms plastic in every area hands down.
Nice video , i think that is a lot better if you get the ones from DJI, you need to do a lot of things to the ones that are not from DJI , and even if you fix them you are not sure if they are good or not
Wanted to say that although the videos are long, it does show quite a lot of useful info with your natural, practical style. I'm also curious about the battery life between the DJI genuine 9443 and 9450 and will probably run my own tests to see if it correlates with your results.
If I may make a general observation, were the same batteries used in all these tests?
***** Thanks!
Hello will, I am a really big fan of your videos for a long time, and I had been waiting for a long time to se more videos about the baja bug. At least for a start up!!! But please!!
***** that it is great to hear!! Love all you videos and your great editing skills. I am happy to hear that you will be making a video out of your apartment with the Phantom, had been waiting some time for that as well. Wish you luck with that. :)
Thanks Will. Excellent videos and very informative for the newbie Phantom owner.
Thanks really good video cleared up some issues I had after purchasing some 9443.
Remember, first drill, then balance
I installed the Floureon 9443 carbon fiber props. Much better then the soft stock DJI props.
+Joe Grodis You balance the carbon fiber ones the same way? Use 120 grit sandpaper? Are they balanced out of the box?
great review , i appreciate this ive been wanting to test 9450 since i got 9443
Will you do a great job on all of your videos . Thanks for all of your enjoyably hard work :-)
Hi, and thanks for such a good instructional video. I have a question for you, Can I use this new upgraded propellers on my Phantom 2 not vision? My Phantom 2 came with the original DJI props, but I would like to try this new ones on it. Do you think that this propellers would affect the performance of my quad since it still running original motors and esc? I would really like to buy a set, but I wanted to ask the experts first. I would appreciate your help on this matter. Thanks. Big Thumbs up on your video.
Thank you for the time you took to share this info with us. Keep up the good work.
Question. I just purchased some of those fake oxox 9443 props. One other thing I noticed is that they have quite a bit more flex to them than the DJI 9443 props. They seem to be of a thinner or weaker material. Have you noticed this and do you think that is a concern?
Awesome, informative and entertaining video.
One gigantic difference.....All four of my counterfeit propellers flew off at the same time causing the Phantom to drop out of the sky. Very dangerous.
Swap internals into P2 shell and you will have room to run 2x the battery power. You will basically see 10 minutes+. Depending on exact setup, some people are getting 15 minutes or even a little more. It's a pretty popular, proven mod.
I bought a phantom 1 used with T-Motor antigravity motors. It has the props with separate nuts and they are all RH thread. Are you aware of any good props that'd work for me?
I want to get that balancer , and was wondering what size rod I should buy to go with these self props, they have 5mm and 6mm....
Hi Will, I need to make it with my propaller?
And about stability? Does the 9450 DJI are more stable to video?
Thanks.
I think it's been found that the 9450 prop offers more thrust and doesn't actually improve stability and may very well offer shorter flight times. I'm using them on my P2V now that I have an RP gimbal riding along.
I don't crash very often. The money I save from buying the balancer, my time and room to store the balance will be spent on the more expensive dji props.
Hi Will where can i find these land gear?
Great video, thank you very much, very informative.
Thanks for the great video,
Can you please test the 9450 Carbon Fiber Prop?
dude... if the phantom rocks when it is upside down WITHOUT the props surely that must tell you something! Some people just like to talk and they now have RUclips in order to do that.
I was comparing the props to the stock ones that came with my phantom 2 plus v3. I assumed the stock ones were 9443s. I purchased this quad 2 weeks ago. Maybe it came with 9450s? Not sure how to tell as the only thing I have to compare to are the oxox which definitely have more flex than what is on there now. Last week I crashed due to a low battery sitiuatuon (I think). As it was landing it slowly veered out of control and into a tree. Broke the shell, not the props. This was odd because I bumped into somethimg on one of my first flights and broke 3 of the 4 props in thr process -not nearly as hard a crash as the one that broke the shell. Now that I think about it, after the first crash I replaced 3 of the props with the spare props that came with the phantom. I wonder if they somehow sent me a set of 9443s and a set of 9450s and thinking they were all the same I have crashed the second time because I was flying the quad with one 9443 and three 9450s. It's just odd that no props broke on the second crash. I will have to compare the flex on the 4 props that are on there now to see if they are all the same. I dont think there are any stamps on the two types to differentiate them.Great videos by the way.
***** After closer inspection, all 8 props that came with my quad are DJI 9450s. I didn't see the number the first time I looked at them. My first crash that took out the props was in 10degree F temps. They were probably brittle. It was so cold out and I was anxious to fly so I tried controlling the quad from my living room, looking out the window (Stupid me). Must have had some signal interference. The second crash where the shell broke but not the blades was in about 35 degree weather so maybe that is why the blades held up. It hit a tree and fell from about 15 ft on one arm onto frozen gravel, crushing the shell right before the motor. I just replaced the shell and one ETC board (led popped out) last night. Lots of tiny screws! Miraculously, I got it all back together. It works fine and didn't even mess up the gimbal. Anyway, thanks for the tips. Now that I know I don't have any stock 9443s I will just assume the fake ones are of similar flex to stock 9443s and will need balancing as one of your other videos explained. The DJI 9450s are a bit stiffer/thicker. When you are flying indoors are you in manual mode to keep the poor indoor gps signal from messing up your flight?
If they have a different brand name on them they are not counterfeit. They are 3rd party.
Sounds like a DJI salesman.
PLEASE DO SOME UPGRADE VIDEO ON COMPUTERS..
thank you great info
I THINK 9450 IS BEST
Link me to those prop guards please?
any news about the battery configuration to get the extra flight time?
which brand? (black magic?)
Where did you buy this balancer helices?
Djalma Ribeiro www.ebay.com/bhp/prop-balancer
Great video. Thanks for the drill bit tip. I have a couple of DJI props you have to muscle on. We're gonna fix that. :)
try like 3000mah
Do you really really?
my ar drone 2.0 power edition last about 16 min flying with a Sony hdr as15 cam. Dji phantom sucks
Five months have passed since I asked you a single question that you might still find in your comments section, and no response so far! I'm removing my "like" and replacing it with a dislike for not take care of your viewer's inquiries...I'm also un-subscribing to your channel.
+ricardopr54 do you need hug? seriously the guy does all this for free and just the gain of knowledge and then shares it with us and you have to be a jerk... wise up.
+Richard Strapple Did I asked you anything specifically ? Don't put yourself in the line of fire for anybody that you don't even know and who's not even going to appreciate it. Don't be a PENDEJO my friend.
I also have a RUclips channel, and if somebody ask me a question I always take it seriously and try to do my best to acknowledge their inquiry. I asked this guy something really simple long time ago and he never cared to response , so that's why I wrote him what I wrote. Take care of your own business PENDEJO! ... See you earned to being called PENDEJO by me for messing with somebody else's problems....PENDEJO! ...
+ricardopr54 Nice public tantrum. I am glad he never responded to you. Now stomp your feet an walk away.
+Charlie Whelan Another pendejo raised his hand for this guy. ..Dude, didn't you read the dates of my comments....The last one was last November, but my original complaint/comment was made a long long time ago. I don't really care about an answer anymore because I figured that out long time ago, so Don't be another pendejo putting your hands on the fire for a stranger.
ricardopr54 Man up and stop whining.
Who cares if they are counterfeit or not. Even the genuine ones have bad Performance. Aeronaut CAM 9x5 ftw
None of the props you bye are balanced he is NOT doing it right. I have 8 sets of DJI props and NONE of them where even close to being balanced
contrefait
You base how good your blades are by how "many hits they can take". Dude. Do you know how stupid that sounds. Do you like crashing or something. Is this a new sport? Besides you DONT EVEN FLY a prop after its taken a hit. You want to see how durable and how many chuinks or bumps your blades can take. Goodbye drone. Please dont fly near me anytime soon..
