Same exact thing happened on my 2015 kia sorento v6. Auto zone sold me a thermostat and it leaked. Funny thing was it seemed to fit ok but wouldn't work. Also had no heat afterwards, go figure. Lastly run the engine with the radiator cap off until no more bubbles are visible. This may take several minutes. Thanks again!

I didn't know you had to run it for several minutes with the cap off. I just did 10sec. Thanks for the info.

What is the torque spec for thermostat housing bolts?

So it looked like a messy job without draining the radiator first huh?

It was a bit messy but I felt the time and fluid saved was worth it, especially since I was given the wrong part the first time and had to do it again.

Besides it getting warm in the morning did you have any other symptoms that the thermostat was bad?
Today my 2015 Sedona SXL overheated temperatures got real hot and we barely made it home. we’ve been having issues with it getting hot standing still so we replaced the fan. So after I replace the fan a little vehicle warm up and it started to overheat again and we noticed it previously when it had overheated earlier in the day that a little bit of coolant was coming out and then we got the steam. In the morning I’m going to test with a leak detector to make sure I don’t have a blown head gasket but if it’s not then I’m going to try to see if I can replace the thermostat to see if that fixes the issue. Thoughts?

@@raven1969david I recently had this problem that caused my overheating. Here's the video of my fix: ruclips.net/video/IdIIHL3mHts/видео.html

@@becausestuffbreaks thank you. I saw the video last night and it was great. The new (used) fan I replaced came with the OEM resistor. I also verified the connectors weren’t burned out. I can’t tell the difference when the low speed or high suede fan is on. I can hear the fan but never seems to run slower or faster…it seems it only has 1 speed.

@@raven1969david I've only heard mine go high speed once. I'm currently trying to figure out why my AC blows warm at idle.

How would you know that AutoZone part is different from the dealer

I show what the correct part looks like. The Autozone one looks a lot different.

Yes but I have a 2017. Do they all look alike?

Honestly, I don't know. To be sure, you might want to just get the part from the dealer. The part was actually cheaper or around the same price anyways.

The rubber gasket was a lot thinner on the O'Rielly and wouldn't seal properly and would leak. We took it back out and just swapped out the gasket between the new and the old and it worked perfectly. The gasket was in good shape. I recommend getting it from the dealer but we couldn't wait.
