  • Sky News host Andrew Bolt says Melbourne has become Australia’s “biggest city” and has forced people to be stuffed into small housing blocks miles from the city centre.
    “Melbourne is being choked up, stuffed up by this massive growth,” Mr Bolt said.

      The people of Africa have multiplied like rabbits. Their tribes have been fighting each other for centuries. Now, thanks to the UN Convention on Refugees, they are all now entitled to a share of our infrastructure, public services, and the receipts from our agriculture and mineral exports, because everyone in Africa can claim to be "persecuted" due to their ethnicity or religion.

We need 6 million immigrants under 35 in the next decade, JUST TO MAINTAIN OUR CURRENT POPULATION when it comes to 2050. If we don't we will not have the cohort of young people to stimulate demand, or taxpayers to fund pensions, hospitals, schools etc. Search for Peter Zeihan on demogarphics and aging populations. It's simple demographics and math. Where I live, in the country,there is not enough people to make business viable, or entice new business. We need a minimum of 80 million people (but not all crammed into Sydney and Melbourne). We need a crisis to poke government and business into action, that's how Australia rolls. If only Sydney and Melbourne are being marketed as global cities, migrants are always going to land in one of those places first. @@brettmitchell1777 For how long though? As the Boomers move through the system, there'll be more retirees living for longer than ever before in the country's history. And they'll be able to sell the property they got relatively cheaply to fund their two or three decades of retirement, keepin their spending power and consumption high. As this is unprecedented in Australia (that many retired living that long) the government is boosting the numbers of those of working age so that there isn't massive labour shortages.

    The world changes, and cities grow. Was there a specific size Melbourne should stay at, or grow by annually. Here conservatives go again trying to conserve some vague thing from some vague point in the past. A more helpful discussion would be about how Australian cities grow, and the zoning laws that impact the built environment. New suburbs generally don't have a town centre or main street. We don't build enough mixed use residential, retail, and commercial areas. Housing is separate from everything else which requires a car every time you leave your house. Public transport is a political football between left and right, and spending billions on roads doesn't get the same scrutiny. Making roads wider won't make traffic go away.

    • @georgebronte840
      @georgebronte840 Год назад +6

      Yes, cities grow. Organically, let nature take its course. Dumping (literally) hundreds of thousands of souls from abroad into a small geographical area within a short period of time is only asking for trouble.

      It took Melbourne 170 years to hit 3.3m people. Through extreme immigration, we'll grow by that much again in 35 to 40 years. That there is the problem.
      Too much population growth too fast. You cannot "plan" for that. And we are all suffering the consequences.

    • @chriswatson1698
      @chriswatson1698 Год назад

      If cities grew as a result of our own reproduction, then we should bear the cost of a denser population.
      But Australia's growth is due to foreigners brought in from cultures that gave the world female genital mutilation, foot-binding, caste, child marriage, legal wife-beating, polygamy and slavery. We did not conceive these people and we should not be forced to share our inheritance with them.
