I LOVE watching this guy - every time I see a show it motivates me to get up and get some yard work done... My back yard is greatly improved thanks to YOU... sLr
You are an inspiration Martijn. I find myself encouraged and motivated to develop areas in the garden which I have longed to do. Thinking that at 84, with arthritis in every part, fibromyalgia having it way, it is too late to do such things. Your stickability to the task, oh so encouraging. Thank you Martijn. x
Thanks for the pep talk. I live nothing..NOTHING..like you do, but since my hubby passed several years ago, I have been pulling my 13" camper around the US solo for years. Staying out months at a time with only my dog as a companion. As I was readying for another adventure, I started wondering if I was being foolhardy at 76 yrs with diminished physical capabilities to continue traveling. All the fears started filling my mind. I heard you say "shoulders back and face to the wind" and it reminded me that the fears were part of the great adventure. Thank you.. I will carry on with renewed gratitude.
Such a wonderful attitude. Indeed : shoulders back , chin up, back straight. Good poisture , good attitude. For real. Enjoy your camper, listen to you inner North Star, and heading your signals and common sense….: you’ll be fine ❤
You say you live nothing like Martijn but I am certain if he read your comment he would be amazed and truly inspired as I am. Your life sounds really wonderful and inspiring and long may it continue with your doggy companion. Happy travels and stay safe!
I love a good adventure. I moved to a small rural village in Central Italy 5 years ago. I had worked for 40 years in Los Angeles and needed a different path. I live in the oldest part of my village. Not many people have renovated the ruins and most of the houses are abandoned up where I live, but I love it. Any window of my house has the most beautiful views of the mountains, the mist in the morning, a little pink house on the horizon. It was a challenge at first, I had no heat, no kitchen, only a toilet, no sinks, One mattress, 2 chairs and a small table. I loved it then and I love it today.
I can't help think your parents should be so proud of you! They've instilled a long list of virtues! You're an extremely hard worker, more patient than most people. You have a love and respect for nature that's obvious. You're not a quitter or a whiner. You've tackled big jobs, obstacles and disappointments without a single complaint. The recent destruction from the storm would've discouraged most men but you've handled it all with a good attitude, determination and an iron will. The progress and improvements you've made since you first arrived is amazing. I keep returning to watch your videos knowing this is a success story in the making! I so admire the balance you keep in your life and I'm sure there's others like me cheering you on, anxious to see you triumph over such adversity. Keep up the good work, we're pulling for you. And thanks for sharing!
@@jonellbackman3352 he means the first "Telegram me..." comment which is clearly spam (inappropriate advertisement or other rubbish). Unfortunately YT channels get invaded by this kind of things.
Thankyou for the wonderful example you are to the world out there! Hard work is such a noble thing. I just love that you're polishing your boots in the middle of nowhere where it would be so easy to say... who would care ..." Your honor and dignity triumphs. Your parents did a fabulous job!
Martijn, I thank you so much for filming your work. My husband and I have been working on an old run down ranch 10 miles down from the north rim of the Grand Canyon. We are coming close to finishing, but we have been doing this for the past 6 years now with some help from family and friends. The work is hard and tedious, we are fixing our pump house right now as our well is essential in the desert. My husband asked me several months ago as winter was coming on if I still wanted to keep the ranch, I shared your videos with him. He said, how does he get that much work done and still film? I don’t know how you do it, martijn, but I’m so glad you shared your journey. Our lives have been difficult, but rewarding. Now that we are coming to an end we realize it has been the work that has been the most valuable time for us, not the end result. Thank you for sharing your triumphs and your disasters, it has given us courage in what we are doing and purpose to how we are doing it. Blessings to you, we’ll be praying for you. Someday I hope we’ll hike up into those beautiful mountians of yours. Jennifer Velez
On this Earth Day today, I am watching this video and will be sharing it on my social media timeline to honor this day. Your videos are my weekend “zen” meditations. You live a life that I can never imagine myself living but you inspire me to live mine in “balance”. I wish you all the fulfillment in the life chose. Thank you for sharing some of it with us.
Dear Martijn My heart broke for you seeing the damage that the storm caused. You're a star coming back like you do. Sometimes life throughs a punch but we get all the stronger and perseverance builds character and yours is strong. What about closing your kitchen in on the sides. You have enough wood to do it. God bless you my friend. Love your positive energy. Christine Holliday South Africa
When I was 35 I built a cabin in the US state of Maine in the middle of 9 acres and lived in it for over 30 years. An hour from the ocean and just a little more than that to the mountains. I enjoyed the abundant nature that surrounded me and now that I’m old and no longer hale I still have all of those memories. Your project brings me back to that time and I’m sure that you will enjoy the fruits of your labor in the beautiful place that you chose to live.
Thats amazing Sir. It seems like you have lived a great life so far. More Power to you. its strange why can't we do such adventures as you people did, we are badly traped in these City lives & offices. Please Give some advice. How to get closer to nature? How to take out time for ourselves and how to enjoy life like you did ?
@@luqmankhan2949 I couldn’t have done this without my job working for a multinational corporation for 25 years. I retired from them in 2009 with a pension and full health insurance for life. There are advantages to working for large, well established companies. I took out a 35K construction loan to finance the build but did much of the work myself subbing out foundation, plumbing, and electrical. On my time I hunted, fished, hiked and camped in the mountains, and spent a lot of time simply exploring. I was fortunate that my company had a division in a neighboring town. I had purchased the land several years earlier while living in another state. I was fortunate that all the dominoes lined up well for me. Good luck.
I too love to rough it out in nature. My favorite time is to be outside no matter the weather. I love being away from the city out on a full moon night where it's so bright I need no light. I find answers sitting in a forest or taking hikes. For me there's nothing better than sitting by a fire on a beautiful autumn evening. Also my friend who watches Martin says " Martin is no quitter".
Great that the tent supplier backed their product: they had nothing to be embarrassed about! I have exactly the same tent, it's held up for about 6 New Zealand summers so far, still in great shape.
dont know man , it toppled so many times , i would make a better frame out of wood or metal then to use that crappy pole , he got lucky he wasnt sleeping in it when it happens , imagine fire stove on and it toppled , recipe for a fire , lol
@@sdqsdq6274the first time it toppled the producer explained that the pole should fail first. The pole is cheap and replaceable, the cloth is much more expensive. You can also replace the pole by something else if it breaks, that’s really hard with the cloth if it has tears in it.
I just have to tell you that my mom and I are totally addicted to your programme. In June 2022 my husband passed away and I ended up being mom's caregiver. We live in a retirement village in Johannesburg (South Africa). I saw your programme and told mom about it. Now we can hardly wait for your next video upload. It's clearly the highlight of our week. The way you let the world be part of your experience is so amazing. We just love the way you explain the process and steps you take to improve everything. The work you do is very professional and so neat. Thank you for sharing this with us. We are totally in love with you, your programme and experience in the Italian Alps. We have only 1 request, can you please show us how you make and bake another bread? We so much enjoy watching you cut into that freshly baked bread, sit at you stone table and enjoying the view. You are in our prayers and we can't wait to see the finished project. Thank you for the joy you bring into our lives!
Great episode, Martjin! Mother Nature took a whack at you, you survived, appreciated her tantrum, then built a 'coffee table' to challenge her to move it next time! Your camera work around 19:24 was ethereal and spooky at the same time---nice touch! Just a lot of nice touches for your watchers and we thank you for them. You have that artists touch in just about everything you work on and it shows.
KlazyY, at 19:24 was great! This is the first video I’ve noticed him doing that. He did it more than once, another time was finishing the evening working on chicken coop. He is always showing his creative side in different ways. 👏🏻
I'm obsessed with your channel . Also very impressed . Thanks for the hrs of meditative viewing. You shoot so well and not in an intrusive or unnatural manner. During Covid I was given the option of leaving my show to be in the UK or fly back from Budapest to South Africa where I knew I could escape to the mountains from the idea of lock down . I loaded my old land rover discovery 2 and headed for the Cedarberg Mountains where I lived completely off grid for 3 months. I'll cherish that time for ever. Now all I want to do is what you are doing. My father is a joiner and cabinet maker/all round builder and it's fun watching you learn skills and improvising .Also that you manage with your little Suzuki and trailer .Thanks again. Why do we watch this guy? We watch him because he has embraced a project with all these ups and downs and in betweens and the way he responds to everything is the lure--what gives the channel its energy. Energy is the word. Without that you have nothing.
I feel guilty sitting here on my couch watching him. I'm the type of person that if someone is working, whether at their place or mine, I HAVE TO help! I'm 65 in a couple of months, but I live very similar. I have 95 acres in the mountains of west Tennessee and I only have 10 solar panels and 8, 6 volt deep cycle batteries for my electrical needs. I do though, have indoor plumbing. Praise the Lord! lol
I love the new day-to-night, night-to-day transitions with a fixed camera position. They're quite beautiful. The first one with your hand picking up the beer from the table felt other-worldly.
those 32 seconds....... is the epitome of Martijn's videography. In my last 7 years of utube watching, never saw such a soul-stirring movement of time and life. Thanks Martijns. You are turning your work in to a poetry!. Hats Off Martijn! From Mumbai.
Yes I also felt I was waking up with you, Martijn, only you went to bed and I fell asleep in the chair, but waking as you did to the beautiful morning painting that you live in. So refreshing a sensation, to awaken to the spot where darkness clothed us to sleep.
I felt the very same way watching that transition. Something magical in that moment. As I watched, I felt it had the same gravity of the shots he gives us of the mountains and the drone shots. So unique. I was happy to see other's appreciation and notice of the shot as well. Fine art.
You are an 'heliosman"knowing that Nature is your Mother - she knows lots more than her children!!! Anew as each moment that we are given to enjoy? Pleasure to see you again with hundred times go ahead! To live with, from and owing to the powers of Nature, you chose the utmost it is not granted to many BUT YOU CHOSE. With all of your talents I love to follow you. Reading your site I did not know.....I knew you ....from your cycling period!!!! Please take care. Best warm wishes.
I look forward so much to your weekly blogs. As an 80 year old woman whose dad went to ww1 in Gallipoli he treated me like a boy. Took me on all sorts of adventures. I adored it. Just felt I disappointed him as a teenager I became a girl, making dresses and wanting babies. I never had the strength to do much except fishing 😂 I’m astonished at your strength and courage and retain my love of nature. Don’t think I’ve missed an episode from no. 1

Extraordinary. I “think” I understand your deep desire to be out in nature, to experience your choice of desiring to be alone… to make a home a compound to reflect your needs and wants. I so admire what it is you are doing and will in the future be doing and my goodness the experience of making a space ( acres of it, your own. Be successful and be safe. You have the world of nature at your doorstep. Continue to be filled with the desire to be there!
I have a couple tips for you, when you add another form just tapcon it to the previous pour it will keep it in line and shouldn’t bulge out. On keeping your mixer clean, just toss a few rocks inside and add a bucket of water then let it run for a bit and rinse. I had to do that on a daily basis since I was a mason tender for 5 masons 😅 Need to set your focus on one project at a time, you will see faster progress that way. Take care
Very well said Martijin. Your lifestyle is so full of memories and experiences most people will never realize. That's why so many people follow you - living through your videos.
You hit the nail right on the head! I’m 61yo now and I’m feeling my age but spent a lot of my 20s and 30s being adventuresome! I’m not done yet but if my time were up, I can honestly say I have experienced much, challenged myself, LIVED, … so I get it Martijn, and I wish you a great life!

You are such a good sport, Martijn! Your attitude toward nature is steeped in respect, which helps you to take the challenges and set-backs in stride. True virtue is tested through trials and errors. Success is not winning all the time, but in accepting the humbling moments and sincerely learning through your difficulties or failures. God bless you!
Martijn, you are what I've always imagined a true Mountain Man to be. You like the life of independence, the connection to your mountains, the sense of building your life and home to your own vision. You really do "march to your own drummer." Keep listening to the symphony in your head. No one can do better than what you hear is right for you!
You are a young and fit man now, and that colors your vision of the life you want to live, and the abilities you have to do it. Nature is wonderful, and even the storms and failures can be thrilling and challenging when you have the strength and ability to come through to the other side. I think you live your life a day at a time and take in all the minutes of the day without rushing through them. You are lucky to be living the life you are by keeping yourself open and in the moment.
Forgot to say that I totally understand how you communicate with nature and how it showed you it's force. I've had these conversations during strong winds and heavy weather.
Your approach to life and nature requires a lot of open-mindness. Because of how comfortable life is we oftentimes forget how rooted in nature we actually are and putting yourself out there, raw and vulnarable makes you realize not only the beauty of it but also its ruthlessness. Keeping fingers crossed for your journey Martjin, stay safe.
The chickens will have the best view😀. Worth it. Amazing job working all day long, sometimes at night. Great video. I am loosing a lot of sleep but I am gaining a lot of joy. Thanks❤️
I've watched all your videos before and have never commented, but I simply had to here - everything about this one is stunning. Not just the transitions but the music, the mastery with the drone shots. You capture not only the spirit of your solitude but the rough poetry of life in the mountains. Thank you for the escapism, Martijn.
This is what I really like about your videos. I have been binge watching rather than a long time watcher. You've got a great positive outlook about living this way. It is hard but this is the way people lived when they built nations. And I don't think a person can really know what they are capable of until they face challenges, like how to live without the luxury of air condition and heat (As a teenager, I had to cut wood for our wood stove). My grandfather was a master carpenter and watching you, reminds me of the times I watch him building things. And I learned things from that. At 67, I can still operate the tools, I can still build things and fix things. And it is a good thing because as a widow of 14 yrs, I've needed everything I learned in my "past life". And I truly love the fact that the young people who come there are learning life valuable skills as well as how to work together. And they won't know it until they need it.
Every episode i find myself asking why you built things a certain way and thinking it could’ve been built differently and more robust. Your explanation about the balance with nature immediately made so much sense. Inspiring to See the Progress each week. All The best mate love seeing it come together
Actually you are absolutely correct . Martijn is living in an extreme environment that requires construction that meets the environment. There are materials and construction meathods that enable him to be close to nature as he wants and still be strong . But it’s for him to figure out , learn . Maybe after the next hurricane
@@margaretolover3316 The construction methods and materials do not make sense for a strong and lasting structure to withstand the elements he lives in . The next cyclone will destroy it again . Unless he loves suffering and watching his things get destroyed.
Martijn, Your updates are such a soothing part of my routine these days, I feel tremendous guilt that I am too far away from being able to lend a hand to help. Thankyou from the bottom of my heart for this tremendous series. Much Love!
Thank you , Martijn. Wow, how quickly the landscape and seasons change where you are. Beautiful visuals, as ever. Enjoy the new 🏕. I totally get where you’re coming from with the simpler and more connected way of living. It’s a beautiful life, with all of its challenges.
Like many who are invested in this life you are creating, I'm sure you are the right person for that place on the hill. Your filming is exquisite, that transition at the table..😁 It's been quite a journey so far..😉🇦🇺
Yes, I totally agree. Especially with the transition videography. Very effective and even evocative. Well done on all you’ve achieved so far Martijn. Cheers from Australia. 👏🏻🇦🇺🦘
the filming and photography is extraordinarily good, it's like oh 'we are going inside' or 'we are mixing concrete' and then the boots and back pack appeared .. oh great we are going for a hike! So it's all a real treat and pleasant surprises and sensationally and subtly enhanced by the filming and photographic skills even just looking at various aspects of the structure and stonework is enthralling. See you next week Martijn
Who else was like “what’s he making? A concrete form?” Then when he takes it over to the kitchen, buries it, and puts a stone slab on top, I was 😆 🤣🤣. That side table will stand for 50 years!! 😂 Nice work as usual Martijn
@amyblueskyIRL, 😂😂 I was thinking what in the world is he making! I’m still trying to figure out it being 2-part with the gap between the boards. 🤷♀️ I smiled as he huffed and puffed determined to get it placed and then he left only to roll that stone over and place it on top! He’s so much fun to watch. It’s like there, blow this away! 😂
@@jenh9252 Hi Jen. I’m not understanding. I’m familiar with the subtitles. I could not find where he explains making the table in the design of a box. Any help for me where I’m missing his explaining this?
As I have read most of the comments, everything has just about been covered regarding you, Martijn, your journey you are on, the beautiful scenery and setting, your character, love of nature and on and on, so I will say it's all so amazing and awesome and touches my heart! Thank you, thank you!
Hi Martijn, Your camp is back, stronger and better. Mother nature gives us a kick in the pants...we get up and get it done. She helps us to hone our skills. Your view is always changing, I love your out door living ethos. Spring is on its way to you, beautiful soil, expand your veggie patch, as it was so productive last year. You will have happy hens in that coop. Fresh eggs and meat. Your busy.....jobs to do. Help will come and the new tent completes the space. Stay safe and sane. Thank you for sharing, I love the vista.
The "Out for a walk" moment answered the question as to why you do what you do. That stream coming down the mountain, that path you walked, the overlook you often visit is everything beautiful and right with the world. ❤️ You are blessed by your fortitude and dreams.
I came over the hill with you and my heart sank to see the devastation of your camp. But watching almost back to back each episode I knew you would come out of this and have the fortitude and resilience of picking up the pieces reflecting on what has happened, you have my respect fella and I will be tuning in each week following your adventures of creating your home that you built with your bear hands, with a little help from your friends and your audience here on RUclips. Keep up the good work.
Completely understand you need for "balance" with nature, Martijn - of wanting to live outside as much as possible, with some basic comforts and functionality, but without building barriers between yourself and the nature you have sought. I had wondered whether your new tent might be a Tentipi, - with better longevity and storm resilience for long-term 4-season living. It must have been a blow to see your camp devastated by the storm, but your structures proved resilient in their own way - you appeared able to salvage & rebuild relatively quickly and waste little - a sign of resilient design I would say. Your concrete forms looked substantial enough, but they'd benefit from a couple more horizontal planks, and secure bracing to hold shape. Really enjoyed your return, and your industry (that is Heavy Work... look after your back!). And appreciated that shot featuring your lit tent in the background, blending from night to dawn - a lovely aesthetic. I agree - looking back, it is the challenges that we overcome that we remember. Not the easy life.
So glad to see this Martijn. My wife and I have watched you from the beginning, when you first purchased and arrived at your new homestead. Last year, you had so much to do, to include electrics, plumbing, outhouse, work area, moving the outdoor kitchen, garden, pathways, cleanup, crane, tent deck, picnic table, and finally the roof project (removal of stones, new beams, replacing stones, wall work, gutters, skylight, and more). I truly believe that this spring and summer you will make incredible progress, and I hope and pray that you get some great volunteers who not only are enthusiastic, but also ones who bring their special talents to the projects.
Last week, as I watched the video of the storm and the aftermath, I thought that I had no clue how you could be so resilient. I would have felt defeated for my part and possibly would have given up. But seeing now, only two weeks after, that everything seems back to normal, it diminishes the drama of the whole experience. It only took two weeks to get back to normal, minus a few dollars and some lost items and certainly things you didn't show or tell, but, I said diminish, not remove the drama haha. Watching your videos helps me put things into perspective, thank you so much for sharing your journey with us, it's really appreciated!
40 years in construction management, and I love your videos. I was an architect's builder, so everything was custom. To check if concrete forms were ready for a pour, I'd strike them with a sledge hammer, hard. If them moved, they needed more bracing. The workers didn't like me sometimes.
For many of us, of a certain age, your adventure with nature, and how you described it was such a beautiful metaphor for life. You are choosing a balance of beauty, and the risk necessary to fully appreciate it; many of us have had similar experiences in just our day to day lives.. balancing the effort with the joy - whatever that might mean to each of us individually. It’s such a joy to watch your progress there, with all it’s ups and downs, and to live vicariously through it. Thank-you for continuing to share; you, and the ‘art’ you bring us, are very much appreciated. Stay safe young man!!
Living in nature comes with an invitation to self-discovery. Those who can embrace the fierce reality of nature's impartiality toward us are rewarded equally during a cold rain or in a warm sun - they are the same in spirit. I'm reminded this week to strive for an authentic life even in my lesser pursuits.
I sat transfixed, in shock and sadness, watching last week’s video...on the verge of weeping and bouts of closing my eyes in disbelief. I think we all worry about you, are invested in you and this journey...somehow feeling we are on it with you. We care. A LOT. And seeing things go wrong just produced the most gut wrenching sense of helplessness. But I knew almost instantly that your undying resiliency would set things right again, and I consoled myself with that. Anyone telling you to secure your living space any differently than how you do it now doesn’t understand your soul. They either get it or they don’t. And listen, every woman watching falls asleep dreaming about you (literally) and every man desires your unbending and uncompromising freedom. Thank you for your flawless filming, editing and music choice. My heart feels like it’s parasailing when I watch your work.
Dorothy- I know your comments were intended kindly to compliment and admire Martins work. But I must say that women too desire his unbending and uncompromising freedom. All women do not fixate on the romantic desires that you implied.
@@lindataylor849 thank you. We woman also long for this kind of live. Nothing romantic going on here. Just the pure living in nature is what attracks me.
I tell my cat each Sunday morning that it's time for coffee and to see what Martijn has accomplished this week! 😂Watching ALL of your past journeys to this point, I had no doubt you would take that horrible storm in stride and soldier on! The camp is restored and looks great! Great progress this past week!
It is such a pleasure to watch your videos. I'm always looking forward to it. It makes my Sunday. The way you film and the calm way of talking, it is just excellent! I really enjoyed your monologue today! Thanks Martijn for all the inspiration and enjoyment you are giving us. Hartelijke groet uit Nederland!
Martijn, a man of all trades. I've never seen a man who knew so many different types of work. Amazing. I wonder, if eventually, down the road, if the two buildings will somehow be connected? Maybe kitchen and living room in one building and bed and bath in the other. Hope the main project gets done before winter. Take care Martijn.
One of the things I love about your property is your outdoor kitchen. The simplicity of it and of course being out in the open with nature. I was thinking how it's simplicity made it easier for you to reconstruct it as quickly as you did. Glad you've been able to get your home back together.
I've learned a lot of things just by watching your videos. really inspiring, empowering, and meditative,... you're so calm in the center of the storm, embracing everything that nature brings, passionate with your work, and putting the effort in. Thank you so much for the inspiration
It’s good that you are filming your projects and showing the world what you are doing. You don’t want to let your viewers down, so you can’t quit the project. The psychology behind filming the project, keeps you on task and motivated, I guess. I know that I look forward to every video that you post. I can relate, because I bought a farmhouse that was built around the year of 1947. I have replaced three floors, tiled my kitchen and bathroom; added a studio, landscaped my property and much, much more. Bought the house in 2001. Paying for renovations as I go. I have fallen in love with my home. One day, it will be finished; but for now I am enjoying the process…
I hope I'm not the only one but I'd liked to emphasize how much I love your night sequences because they are gorgeous. The light, the colors, the contrasts, everything is working together to make beautiful pictures ! Bon courage pour la suite.

When you are doing anything from your heart setbacks, while challenging, can lead to a renewed sense of commitment and purpose. It's exhausting but it's a good exhaustion that makes your body and mind hum on the same frequency: a natural high that can't be artificially duplicated. You sleep each night anticipating what you will be able to accomplish the following day. What you learn about yourself and life is really the point of it all. The forces of Nature will try anyone's patience and resilience but there is nothing like the sun on your face, catching snowflakes on your tongue or letting the rain wash over you as you hike through the woods. You have to be willing to learn from life's lessons no matter how difficult they may be. Hats off to you Martijn for being able to bounce back and keep moving forward with your spirit and a sense of gratitude intact.
Every time you step out onto the edge of that huge precipice, I hold my breath. The view is beautiful, so I can appreciate why you do it. Thank you, again for sharing your journey with us. ❤

I have to say coming home from my midnight shift and being able to watch you sunday morning is great!! If anybody has to ask why you live like the way you do then they really don't get this channel. Keep up your hard work. Be safe
Well, I did wonder how far things flew in the snowstorm, but you seem to have rounded up all the bits and put them back in order. Mother Nature doesn’t mind giving out a few whacks and smashes to humble us. Good for you for facing into the storm and squaring off with the old girl. It reminded me of a bicycle trip across the US when I was younger, camping all the way. I was so scornful of Winnebagos and huge RVs, containing people I imagined were unable to leave their sofas and easy chairs behind, never really feeling nature’s forces head on. It was glorious to camp and live outside for months. Your senses are heightened and many things we believe we cannot live without become meaningless. Living simply is the ultimate.
10:00 such a good summary. The comfort zone is all nice and stuff. But sometimes you should leave it. And grow. And in most cases you will find not just growth, but also fun in it!

You just keep on trucking. As long as able to physically keep doing what you love. You'll know when it is time to quit.
I could not have said it better ❤

“Do you live with your face in the wind and shoulders back”? I love your wisdom and I want to be as brave as you are.
Dear Martijn
My heart broke for you seeing the damage that the storm caused. You're a star coming back like you do. Sometimes life throughs a punch but we get all the stronger and perseverance builds character and yours is strong. What about closing your kitchen in on the sides. You have enough wood to do it.
God bless you my friend. Love your positive energy.

I couldn’t have done this without my job working for a multinational corporation for 25 years. Good luck.
That's amazing. Thank you Sir. 🙌🏻
Hey Robert 65 is not “old” it’s just a number 😊
I know this is an old comment but...we live on the coast (not far from Bar Harbor), where we're you?

Great episode, Martjin! Mother Nature took a whack at you, you survived, appreciated her tantrum, then built a 'coffee table' to challenge her to move it next time! Extraordinary. I “think” I understand your deep desire to be out in nature, to experience your choice of desiring to be alone… to make a home a compound to reflect your needs and wants. Take care
Good tips 👍🏻

Martijn, I agree with your philosophy on living a complete life, facing challenges and feeling grateful for what you have.
"You have to take a few punches now and again as well" perfectly said! I admire your initiative and backbone.
What beauty to wake up to!
Martijn, you are what I've always imagined a true Mountain Man to be. You like the life of independence, the connection to your mountains, the sense of building your life and home to your own vision. You really do "march to your own drummer." Keep listening to the symphony in your head. No one can do better than what you hear is right for you!
So true Abigail! Martijn beats his wonderful drum as we all follow along with him….not too unlike the Pied Piper! 😂
Thanks. That monologue about living with nature may be the core of your journey that we are privileged to share. Superb, as always.

Inspiring to

Open kitchen still doesn't make sense...build on back side of a cabin to protect from elements !!
Actually you are absolutely correct . Martijn is living in an extreme environment that requires construction that meets the environment. There are materials and construction meathods that enable him to be close to nature as he wants and still be strong . But it’s for him to figure out , learn . Maybe after the next hurricane

Nature is a mysterious teacher and has ways to make us all stronger.
I have to tell you that those bespoke gutters you created always bring me joy. They are truly works of art.
Everything is alright. You keep finding beauty. And beauty keeps finding you.
You have survived another winter and Spring has sprung. I love seeing the world through your eyes. Thank you Martijn.
We love the way you live. Enjoy yourself.

The camp is restored and looks great! Great progress this past week!
What an inspiring monologue, head up, shoulders back and face into the wind. Beautiful words.

"Facing the wind, shoulders back." Words to inspire.
The shots that fade between night and day is a special touch
You remind me of my Grandpa. He always did things the right way. I loved helping him. But, really, you are a wonder.
I hope I'm not the only one but I'd liked to emphasize how much I love your night sequences because they are gorgeous. The light, the colors, the contrasts, everything is working together to make beautiful pictures !

A life without animals is unimaginable. I’m looking forward to your choice of chickens. Thanks Martin for your continued excellence in everything you do. Wendy from Kelowna
my stomach does turns every time he goes out there to the edge. My son did the same in Ireland with his son, very exciting but scary for me watching. love the videos.
Good man, face the views and onwards! We are with you.
I have to say coming home from my midnight shift and being able to watch you sunday morning is great!! If anybody has to ask why you live like the way you do then they really don't get this channel. Keep up your hard work. Be safe
You can see why the old-timers built their shelters of stone. You can still live in nature during kinder times. Beautiful balance.
Grazie per questi video lunghi, sono i video che mi danno più emozioni 🌈
I do hope the chickens will appreciate that great view!
“You have to take a few punches now and again” . Perfectly sums your experience.
Nice shots while working on the chicken coop at night!
I'm glad the storm didn't defeat you!
I like how you do not rush things and focus on quality.

10:00 such a good summary. The comfort zone is all nice and stuff. But sometimes you should leave it. And grow. And in most cases you will find not just growth, but also fun in it!
