He is! He's like 75% blind. He can see, but has no depth perception. I think someone in the dci universe did a segment on him when he marched Cadets. Really cool guy!
This is my favorite percussion show of all time, hands down. The pacing and the flow of this show are both perfectly done. It is exciting and interesting throughout, there aren't any dull moments, and the designers somehow managed to throw cool moment after cool moment at you throughout the program. From triplet rolls on one leg, to high distance behind the back stick tosses, to a moment that is literally just 8 measures straight of duplet roll at pianissimo, and all of it is fantastically done. The level of excellence that seeps out of these performers is incredibly high as well, I cannot for the life of me understand how they managed to make that triangle drill segment so clean across the board. They even end it with a seventeen-let with the pattern RllRRllRllRRllRll-R, which is one of my favorite measures to play on my own. It seems so impossible when you are learning it, but it flows so well in the hands once you get it down. Overall, legendary show. I managed to see it live my first year out to WGI finals, and I think this show above all others influenced and shaped my love of this activity.
The actor who played Gibby, his cousin went to my middle school. He came to visit his cousin while at school. I don’t remember if I ever saw the guy who played Gibby. We were told we weren’t allowed to get his autograph. This was about 10 years ago.

Rhythm X wasn’t the cleanest that year but that show got way better in the run up to finals that there was no doubt it would win overall. Great year for WGI!
I'm literally brought to tears almost every time I watch that show, and I didn't even march after high school. It's just beautiful. Insane drumming and marching at the highest level, but extremely emotionally charged in just the warmest way.

I guess it's easier to get 100.0 in General Effect vs. other categories, since it's more subjective and not "mathematically" determined, like how clean a roll is.
Really great show! I got to talk with Matt Bowers (Quad player, wearing glasses) about his time with Rhythm X. And how the music was so intense as it was arranged by Tim Jackson.
This is my favorite WGI show ever performed and I'm so sad that I'm 3 years late to this video. Rhythm X 2009 will always have the most special place in my heart. "Touch" forever
