I noticed one comment about someone not understanding why people need shooting to enjoy the outdoors, others feel the same about ATV's , but all of us outdoors types love the outdoors. We must stick together and respect each other, or in the end we will all be loosers.
Just camped at lake pleasant on cow creek rd these past 4 days, no problem with noise although a lot of burros AKA donkeys, like you said. In my Humble opinion, you camped in the wrong spot, if you drove past that staging area you stopped at and went overlanding a little bit, there are plenty of secluded spots to camp all around. I made it back there in a 2wd with A/T. Awesome videos! Keep them coming!

Ah Phoenix, AZ, the only place I've ever seen a triple rainbow! But without air conditioning only good living for about 3 months of the year. Great place to visit, though. Thanks for all the wildlife you found!!
Hi Slim Potatohead... I've been enjoying many of your videos this Fall as a full time RV'er since 2006, living in a Class C, wintering in NC. This video brought back memories of several years spent in Arizona. I love the Payson-Pine area. It also reminded me that I don't care for cactus. I could see my little dog chasing those chipmunks and ending up with cactus quills! Thanks for another interesting video.

We recently scouted the Cottonwood Canyon OHV area. It is not BLM three miles back. In fact, there is no BLM in that whole area. It is State Trust and it requires a $20 permit that is good for one year and only for 14 days maximum (all at once or accumulated). I don't know how they control that, we talked to some campers who said they hadn't seen a ranger in the whole two weeks that had been camped there. We have a 40' motorhome and have found free boondocking sites are very hard to come by in the greater Phoenix area (we stayed 14 days at Apache Trail Boondock). However, for cars and vans there is a BLM area just outside Apache Junction on Hackamore Rd. It is a very rough, long road but there are too many areas to count that cars and trucks can get into just fine, with fabulous views. I highly recommend this for those kinds of campers as it would certainly lessen the impact on the more popular boondock sites.

I'm really enjoying your videos. Like you said in a previous video your pronunciation of the cacti is strange. Saguaro is sa-wa-ro. The cactus impaling your shoes is a Cholla, pronounced choy-ya. The chollas can be dangerous as they throw their spiny pods outward to propagate more cholla. But it really doesn't matter since I know you're trying. Keep the videos coming. Thanks, again.
If your ever in Arizona again try the area between Pinetop and Greer Arizona. Some Reservation land ,but great for camping(get reservation permit to camp at local pintop area casino.) The summers are awesome . Winters they get snow. There are areas where allot of folks camp near small man made lakes,but you can find plenty of areas to camp alone. The sound of pine trees blowing in the wind ....love it.
We are flying into Denver tomorrow back to our camper and actually going to hit up Pinetop-Lakeside for a bit since heaters are better than air-conditioning at this point for us. But we are filming a ton of projects in Scottsdale starting in Sept and need a few good off the grid places for editing. This really helped. We like your style. Keep up the great work brotha! Hi Joe, there were several trails going south from the main road. I expect few had camped there, as it was a very tight squeeze to fit my trailer and nobody passed by. Paradise! SP
Slim, consider dispersed camping in Tonto National Forest. The Apache Trail (Hwy 88) East of Apache Junction is a great drive on a historic trail. There are some great dispersed camp site areas on Hwy 288 on the red bluffs above Theodore Roosevelt Lake.

Hi! Did you feel safe leaving your camper out there while you visited the town in all locations? Also, I have two small dogs and the needles worry me. Was there a location that did not have a bunch of those? Or did you get them in your shoes just when hiking? Also, cell service? How was that? So many questions! Thanks in advance!
Hi Leah, it is preferred dogs are on leash in BLM land, which gives you better control of avoiding cactus encounters. There are many ways to feel secure in leaving your trailer. The easiest is to camp around others and make friends. The camping community takes care of each other. Thanks! SP

Another great video! I am one of those who think ATVs are a menace to the wilderness. We own 4. BUT, for us they are transportation only. We own property on the BC/Yukon border and they are how we get in and out. We use them to haul in our supplies, and they rarely ever get over 15km/hour on the trail. They are a tool and that's it. They also are constantly breaking down. Hence why we have 4. At our home, we are also off in the boonies and the weekend warriors rip up and down our dead end dirt road, or up and down the KVR trail in the valley below us. Not conducent to my peace and tranquility. At least they all leave at the end of the day and I can sit on the deck and enjoy the coyotes, loons and stars . Thanks for sharing.-Sue
Yes, I often see farmers and ranchers use ATVs with respect for the land. Amazing how some can use the same tool to benefit, while others to destroy. SP
Hi Terry, Cottonwood Canyon would be very difficult for a dog. It's the Cholla varieties of cacti that are ruthless. Perhaps the upper elevations have less if you can crawl up there with your vehicle. Thanks SP

Tonto National Forest, It's one of the most beautiful areas in AZ. Your vehicle and trailer can pass on the roads ok. Do NOT go back there in the heat of the summer. There are washes to cross, avoid if rain is in the forecast.

Thanks. Boondocking is more a catchphrase than a truly defined camping genre. To me it means camping in nature on free land, usually with no services at all. Some however think parking their $200,000 RV in a Walmart is also Boondocking. Go figure. I hope to do a video of the philosophy of it at some point.

Also known as "jumping cholla" because they can shoot off a spike studded pod from the vibration of a footstep approaching.
Marla Bullard Cholla are also murder on Mt. bike tires.

The Apache Trail (hwy 88)is closed a few miles east of Tortilla Flat road washed out

Those little round cacti needles are known locally as “goatheads”.

Enjoying your videos. Do you make a distinction between boondocking and camping? Are there less services with boondocking?
Thanks. Boondocking is more a catchphrase than a truly defined camping genre. To me it means camping in nature on free land, usually with no services at all. Some however think parking their $200,000 RV in a Walmart is also Boondocking. Go figure. I hope to do a video of the philosophy of it at some point.
