What an extraordinary conception is the duet, with its spiky, restless obbligato and smooth restful vocal lines. No surprise that there is a matching contrast in the text: The poverty that God takes upon Himself, has destined an eternal salvation for us, an abundance of heavenly treasures.
Wonderful performance! What particular thing that I love in this cantata is how the ascending chromatic line is passed from the voices, to the violins and lastly to the continuo in the latter half of "Die Armut, so Gott..."
Someone once said that Wagner (a composer I cannot stand) had wonderful moments but terrible half hours. As proven here, by this superb performance, Bach had magnificent whole works!

I think it was the first day of Christmas, and because it´s a cantata from the year of choral cantatas it is from the beginning of Bach´s time in Leipzig, not from the end.
Habe ich da was an den Ohren oder sind die Timpani verstimmt? Aber wahrscheinlich liegt es auch an der eher problematischen Akustik dieser Kirche. Ansonsten wie immer grandiose Interpretation.
In the duet the soprano would do better to sing what Bach actually wrote at a higher level rather than inserting rubbish ornaments. Listen to Grace Davidson sing the aria so much better with Herreweghe.
