- Today we take a look at Openreach LD&R Peterborough Regional Learning Centre, 17 Saville Rd, Peterborough PE3 7PR.
We spot a group of staff who didn't like the camera who ask us to stop filming.
A couple of staff come over to ask us questions and ask for the channel name.
We then spot a Hydraulic Crane Mounted Auger with the Legs out so we ask a few questions about that.
Enjoy!

Good attitude from the gentleman who informed you it was called an Auger Drill, just a pity about the previous lot who needs more training, especially in how to speak to members of the public and not just climbing poles!!
The vehicle the auger is mounted on has suspension.(good thing for the humnans travelling in it from job to job.)
The suspension allows movement in all planes (fore and aft, side to side, up and down)
When the legs are deployed hydraulically the stabiliser legs are connected directly to the chassis eliminating the suspension.
Thus all these movements are eliminated, allowing the drill to accurately drill vertically with no movement stresses that could snap the auger or bind it in a spiralling hole.........
❤️❤️❤️
that is a great explanation
Not allowed to film!!🎥😂
"are them legs used to stop it from tipping over" " No"
"well what are they used for"
"to stop it tipping over" 🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Any vehicle with a 'jib', such as a mobile crane or lorry with a 'hiab', needs to have stabilising struts to stabilise the vehicle while rotating the weighted lifting 'jib'.
👍
Hi DJ, for your info, BT (Openreach) and the Post Office Engineering side are one of the best trainers in the Uk.
I was an engineer with the Post Office Engineering, looking after building maintenance which included the sorting offices and what used to be the Giro Centre in Bootle, Liverpool.
There is ( or was), a Post Office Engineering training centre based in Staffordshire, ( the site was like a small village in size), which ran many, many different courses for their staff, from Electronics to Mechanical. Each course duration was either one or two months, people on those courses lived on site for the duration of the course and were provided with all food and accommodation. I undertook many of the courses provided, from 1968 through to 1978. I served 15 yrs of my youth with them.
I never worked on the telephone side though, they were a separate bunch. The training I received was excellent, and served me well in later jobs.
Regards, Mavicmeister.
Interesting.
Back when you had a PSTN line only to work on. Now they pumping too much down the lines. Have SOGEA now. No 50v down em....😉 fun faulting
Had me laughing at "don't be silly".
They seemed happy to let everyone who sees this video say "what a bunch of pricks".
Not a good image to portray.
Good one DJ.
You’re on Saville Road? Then surely Jim’l fix it! Great video again.
I used to have a shop selling phones for landlines. I ended up going bankrupt and they called in the receiver's
🤣🤣🤣
Nice 😂
This was my job, a lineman. The outriggers on the auger are to take all the weight and forces applied, so the frame of the truck doesn’t get warped or twisted. The rope in the bags are for underground pipes. They use an air compressor and blow a sponge with lightweight string attached through the pipe, then attach the rope to the string and pull it into the pipe. Then they can attach a cable to the rope and pull it in.
🙏
Up poles and down holes. That was me too. There were no augers when I was there. They used a curved spade. It was a gang of five who put up the poles. There was a guy who made an elaborate ritual of going to the toilet when we were out in the countryside. He would take a newspaper and toilet paper across the fields. We had spades with very long handles called Longtails. One day a guy followed him and slipped the Longtail through the hedge, retrieving his deposit. His total confusion when he stood up was legendary.
Did you enjoy the job, would you recommend it?
@@samconroyy I loved it. It’s a dangerous job though and safety has to be on your mind at every second. Before you do anything ask yourself, is it safe and how do I make it safe for me? It is very rewarding job bringing communication and power to the communities
Again, BT put a tent over it if you don't like being filmed, or start building underground.
I like the bloke in the hat who come over took the time to explain. Respect.
BT OpenWorld College, again on old MoJ land, ex RAF Westwood. But it all now public land (adopted roads and paths), bridal paths. So all good to film. 👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂
Great Outreach ambassador, the lad who chatted with you about the drill bit and how it's used.

Draw Rope for pulling cables thru the duct work
Some people just don't know what to do in life, their are jobs out there that will suit them perfectly, but you will never know they exist. How can you? Plus watching this you get to know just what the staff are like with no fakery. A very important audit, that can change lives.
the LEGS re outriggers to make the machine stability
Reminds me of the old joke, the punchline being:
"Ahhh yes, but have you seen how far the others are banging them in!" 🙈🤣😂👍
the legs on back of lorry are called "outriggers"..........................
What you doing? Don’t be silly.Love it!
watched a Documentary about this in the 50s when one guy explained that when replacing a pole they would put the new one as close as possible to the old one so that when they cut the last wires on the old one and it started to fall they could jump from it onto the New one
Love your positive attitude, you were just taking an interest that’s all, no shame in that. You didn’t deserve to be called a prick.
we know he's not
@@Smithy1974.Just a little one.
Blue rope ., often found ., it's used to pull wiring through conduit ( piping ) .. I think they blow it through the piping to start with ..
Yeah, a plastic bag tied to the rope and air compressor blows to the other end of the newly laid duct.
@@championtheunderdog7150.............sweet.,did not know how that bit was done..There used to be piles of it in a roadway near Catford dogs..

Eventually folk will learn to ignore 'auditors'.
If only the police would, no chance though
@@Tiny-Tim The authorities should be the target, not car manufacturing plants and the like. I even saw one whopper 'audit' a fire station the other week. I mean, wtf is that gonna do? Target the police guys, they are true 'tyrants'.
@@beyonceWilderBackup Funnily enough no, the fire service personnel were riled up by this particular auditor who clearly got the reaction his channel needed. I must say I've never felt the need to have mooch around a fire station and if did I would have the respect to ring them before hand to ask. Ask yourself what is this 'auditing' really about? A load of waifs and strays from predominantly poor socio economic backgrounds looking for you tube hits and likes or is it something that has a clear and determined end game to it. If it's the latter then I'd suggest a lot of the targets are rather misinterpreted by the auditors that do them. I mean, come on, thee was one where a fucknugget ended up arguing with staff at a pizza processing plant.
Hardly Julian Assange levels of protest is it?
@@beyonceWilderBackup you're missing the point completely. There is an argument for doing these audits, but if the only thing most auditors seem to prove is the 'I can film anywhere in public' mantra. A one trick pony if you like. The 'PINAC' thing was around long before these auditors were around, its been a source of complaint in the urban exploration comunity for a long time now.
@@beyonceWilderBackup I've had a quick look through all of them. One or two are good at what they do, albeit that is just proving you can film in certain areas. Not exactly ground breaking human rights work is it? The rest of the 'community' is just made up of copycat hangers on and lonely folk with little else to do who are looking for companionship.
I don't get it. Why are you doing an audit on a private company??
Auditing, I thought, was ment to keep track and liability to government body, bodies?
We do Private and Public mate.
The legs provide stability when the crane and auger are reached over the side of the vehicle
When you see notices that state there's no unauthorized access and that they won't accept liability for injury, I think they're living on a prayer. I would estimate that unless a business as made reasonable provisions to actually prevent access, then they could still be liable for someone injuring themselves on site.
So true, a disclaimer is actually worth nothing in court...
so true people are total arseholes, i have had them using my warning dangerous work tape and sign as if it was the finish line to a race, had people arguing with the team as large objects are being lowered to the ground , no concept of the fact we are here keeping you safe while we do our dangerous and difficult work that we should be concentrating on but now have to stop again for some dolt. And none of the above had a camera , haha
The blue rope is used for pulling electrical cables through a plastic duct underground that's the method we used when installing lamp posts also your videos are fantastic keep them coming much respect for you
Copper and Fibre cables are pulled through plastic duct work and the Blue Rope recovered for reusing or recycling.
Legs are to stabilise when the arm is up in the air as it makes the truck top heavy and prone to tipping
👍
dj is becoming one of the favs to watch audit!! DJ!!!
Great video again did not know openreach had training sites shame they not climb poles, but never mind . nice one DJ
Gary Wankle, good teacher.
the legs are to keep the vehicle stable when drilling so the drill doesnt get bent or drill at an angle :) it doesnt move material so should never have weight on it that would make it tip.
That guy should be sacked for speaking to a member of the public in that way … totally unacceptable.
That blue rope is probably used as a "fish wire" for pulling cables through underground ducting. There used to be a similar place in didsbury, Manchester. They even had 6 foot poles to start on. Hardest part was letting go with both hands relying on your belt to keep you in place.
You are correct in your assumption about the rope. It is placed there to enable any new cables to be pulled through the duct pipes on any new, or existing laid pipes on construction sites, be it housing or industrial.
Always known as “Draw cord” to me, for drawing cables through ducts.
isn't a "fish wire" is used for fish../ ;p
@@cryptonewbie3699 or for fishing cable through a pipe or ducting. Fish wire is a common term in electrical engineering.
Yeah, and if you hadn't made sure your clip was correctly seated it would jump, just a little, as it seated with the weight, you only made that mistake once LOL
Made me laugh all your questions on the Auger Wagon. I suppose if you don't know you simply don't know. Basically any wagon with a crane arm, lift, auger etc cannot be operated from a free floating wobbly old wagon on rubber tyres. The legs extend hydraulicly creating rigidity of the operating bed on which the crane arm is fitted. The legs also widen the base dimensions of the lifting operation for max stability. Watch enough RUclips and you'll still see plenty of this type of rig tip over when legs are extended onto soft ground or exceeding lift limits.
Hope that helps. 😄👏👍
"Dont Be Silly"😄😄😄
Amazing I just saw a video that explained this
@@verysurvival the power of RUclips 🙂👍
Another Interesting Audit, what you're good at. So glad you cut loose from the Rent a Mob bunch. Solo or with PJ is when your stuff is most interesting and Informative.
On the old RAF site can see the old flight building 33 secs in red brick building scramble for the pilots and cadet center off to your right . next time you in area .know few places you can go in boro
You're so cheerful even when someone's rude. We can't fathom why anyone would be rude to you. We really like your video's. Thank you for your work.
Great aduit they obviously don't like being filmed but as BT employees and one of them comes out with a bad attitude and saying words he shouldn't he needs to be addressed about it very unprofessional for a company like BT I'm sure they wouldn't want this from one of there employees not good for BT the lads at the end were definitely friendly well done them they redeemed BT keep finding the uneducated they bring it on themselves ❤️
That surprised me, not a good role model for the company at all
Filming through see through fences you can't do that, blimey the level of education these days.
Glad you've come to Peterborough, I live and work here.
Having been watching these audit videos for a number of years, I've always thought of auditing the passport office in the city centre.
You and anyone else doing this should really be very much aware of UK law... You could potentially get sued for your videos if someone decided to take you to court. As RUclips is a public site posting without the explicit consent of the individuals allowing you to record them within the videos is illegal.
Audio and Video Recording Laws UK
UK Audio Recording Laws for Individuals
Can Recordings Obtained without consent be used as evidence in court?
Video Recording Without Consent UK
According to the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA), recording conversations without consent in the UK is legal provided the recording is done for personal use; this includes telephone conversations.
However, problems can arise when such recorded conversations are shared with third parties without the consent of the participants of the conversation. It is an offence to sell recorded conversations to third parties or make such conversations public without the participant’s consent in the conversation
You do not understand legalese.
When "includes" is used, a list of what it applies to is then included. In this case Telephone Conversations. There is nothing in what you mentioned there that is relevant to recording a conversion in public using a video camera. That legislation as written only includes Telephone Conversations. If it was to include other actions they would be explicitly written and not implied.

Haha I trained there. They still have poles in areas where there are no underground infrastructure
"Don't be silly" is an awesome reply.
Interesting video. Good to see these inneresting places thats whats good about your vids its not just a lets stand outside this police station and abuse a cop. Great well done and what a silly guy he was who called you a prick.. Hope the. Bosses see this video and put him right
"Prick" man is so stereotypical of thuggish behaviour from someone who swears at an innocent person then walks away like he's won an argument.
Have you got nothing better to do with your time
The blue rope is used for pulling in cables within underground ducts,it's normally left in the duct and a new one is pulled in every time it's pulled out
You hurt their asses ..good job
chris moyles wasn't happy .....
The pole fields are for mass training new starters and retraining others on new health and safetymeasures and equipment, they can get a couple of trainers and groups out at the same time on different types of poles. You may not notice but poles are very much still in use with hundreds going in every week . Once trained your manager will test you yearly out in the field on a pole chosen at random.
The bags of rope are used rope for disposal, it is agreed with our waste contractors this is how it is disposed of due to rope damaging or getting caught in the workings of normal disposal lorries. The rope is for rodding and roping underground ducts and once used may not be up to the job again and snap.
I have been to this training centre a few times and the trainers have always been ok, but I don't think anyone really likes to be watched while they are concentrating on a task.
Mate I appreciate you're harmless and just taking an interest in things, but at the same time you need to understand how it looks when you sneak around filming people without their permission like this. On a personal level, it's courteous to respect people's privacy by approaching them first. On a professional level, BT/Openreach sites often have expensive training equipment, stores depots, fleet vehicles, exchange buildings, large cable drums etc. which are prime targets for thieves/vandals. For all they know you could be a serious security risk which is partly why they're so on edge. By all means keep shooting unusual/interesting things, but please treat people with a bit more respect and you'll probably get more back.
Sneaking? He's doing it right out in the open. If you want respect, don't bark "Oi! Who are you? You can't film here." as your first interaction with someone.
DJ that was hilarious.🎅
The blue rope is for pulling cable through
It’s good to see auditors that actually care about what they are doing and not just to cause drama

That Ogger Can also stand and set the poles

That's one of many sites.
LEGALS
“No unauthorised access to this site” fails on two legal grounds
1) Faded.
2) Catch 22. How do gain authority? If you must enter the site to do so, (to go to reception), then you breach their rule.
Openreach or as I call them, "can't reach."
Some grumpy men some nice chap's. I think the rope is put through the ducting to pull cable through
Ask them if they have been brought up thinking photography is a crime & brought their kids up thinking it also..?
My kid is 40. The hours I've stood watching cranes, diggers tractors , lorries. Nobody gave a toss. Every small boy at that time was fascinated by work and building sites. No video but we took photographs. What's happened? Don't say terrorism we had IRA bombing.
