Mike! Absolutely fantastic grooving, this just feels so incredibly good. And MAN are you getting killer sounds, as always. Being more and more inspired by you and your playing each and every time I hear you. Thanks for sharing.
+Maximiliam Andersson Thanks! It's kinda hard not to fall into the pocket when the bass player is Christian McBride. Ha! If you haven't already, you should check out that whole album. It's called Fingerpainting. It's a drum-less trio and is killer for play-along practice.
Thanks! Yeah, I deviated from the note-for-note approach in the rest of the Drum Influences Series because the track I was playing to had a different feel from Herbie's original recording.
Simply Outstanding work Mike! Your performance and the way that you captured the performance sonically is fantastic. Beautiful! I can't get over how tight and huge that piccolo snare sounds. Thank you for posting this.
really nice groove and feel Mike…my ear wanted to hear that same hi hat ride pattern on a ride cymbal at times during the song…great sounding kit. I will be attempting to drum to the 'Finger painting' recording you mentioned…though it will be a long time before I can do half of what you can do on the drums…until then I will do my best, as best I can! I love the tone of the rim tap from that snare. For how shallow that snare is it sure sounds 'fat'. Your discussion on the 'Mike and Mike' podcast about 'bright, dark, light and fat' was fun.
+Sean Meister Thanks man! Yeah, I purposely avoided the ride cymbal to see if I could create more subtle feel changes with just the kick, hat, and snare.
Dude, what can I say that you don't already know. That was sick bro! Listening to you play the drums like that - with so much attention to sound, feel, and authenticity - I don't know whether to practice harder or just give up know...lol. Nicely done my friend.
Groovy, Mike! Quite a workout for the right hand. Love those cymbals, B-E-A-U-tiful crash and those hats sit pretty in the mix. Same ones you used in your last video, right? When you flipped your stick and were playing with the butt end, it really beefed up that little snare.
+Buck A Thanks! Yeah, those hi-hats are incredible. They sound like old A's from the '60s but they're fairly new. Super-thin and perfect for recording.
Great job! One of my favorites! Would appreciate it if you checked out my covers and subscribe if you like them. Looking forward to more of your videos. Rispondi
That snare sound is giving me life
Outside of the great playing and overall sound, that snare sounds awesome!

+Michael Dawson oh man! good to know - i'll DEFINITELY be checking that out.
Outstanding groove. The feel is liquid. Dare I say, I don't really hear the Harvey ''Chameleon'' groove, but no matter. It's driving and rock solid.

Sounds great as always, Mike .

I figured you avoided the high hat for some specific reason….makes perfect sense to me! I would say your mission was accomplished.
