I have to share my creepy Furby story here which I believe confirms this. I was born in the mid 80's, my youngest brother got a Furby sometime in the 90's. He had it for a while at this point and we all played with it and lil bro treated it like his pet, taking it everywhere with him. One weekend night my whole family is sitting in the basement watching Beetlejuice, that Day-O songs comes on and the furby straight up plays back a recording of "Come mister tally man, tally me Banana" It was not in his creepy furby voice. We were all pretty shocked by it because it had never done that before. My dad who is an engineer looked at it and said "hmmm, it must have a microphone"
Ok so let’s talk about the real reason furby had to change their style in 1998… the company was sued for the toy looking to much like gizmo… the lawsuit was a success and that’s when furby came out with the gizmo furby… it was a very sad situation for the actual owners
They should make a new Furby just in time for the 25th Anniversary. Maybe a revamped version of the original one, with a redesigned mechanics, silent motors and gears like the 2012 and Connect. With a vintage touch and a new personality, it could be a huge success again.
THAT FURBY IS SO HORRIBLE THOUGH- like its cute and i may get it- but 70 dollars for a toy that only lights up, moves its feet and blinks its eyes?….it doesn’t speak furbish, and it doesn’t even move its mouth.

If it was up to me to reboot furby, I would lean in to the hacking community, and redesign it to teach young mind the basics of programing/AI learning. Both skills that will be more sought in the future.
I have 3 Furbies: 2 Polka Dots Furby Booms named Bee-Doo and May-Bay, and a now broken Magenta Furby Connect named Ah-Bay which was accidentally dropped and the motor broke. I will be getting a replacement soon which is also Magenta, a Galaxy 2023 Furby, a Furblet named Pix-Elle, and a Polka Dots Furbling for Bee-Doo and May-Bay for my early Christmas gift. Edit: This comment is WAY outdated now. My current collection is the Furbies that I was talking about, except the Furbling, as I didn't get the color that I expected. The one I got was the Zig Zag one, and a Green Blue Crystal one. I also got another Orange Pink Crystal one and 3 more Furblets named Loo-Lay, Par-Tay and Zee-Bah other than Pix-Elle. I find it rather ironic how the G2 Furbys ended in 2007, and the 2007 Transformers movie had a scene where Bumblebee picks up a truck branded with Furby on it, and it gets blown up. I like to think in universe Furbys were alive, and that truck contained the last hope for their species survival.🤣🤣🤣
