It's time for the Makers' Secret Santa. This year I'm making a giant animatronic robot Furby for very a special little boy. I used 3D printing, an Arduino and various other electronics, and brightly coloured fabric to make a 'Furby Surprise'. Makers this year are:

This is amazing and simultaneously deeply disturbing. That huge Firby lurching forward is the stuff nightmares are made of.
James' video should have been the first video in the playlist. He spent the most time explaining the whole RUclips secret Santa concept and introducing everyone. some of the other videos just started with no introduction.
Watching this make me realise why scott from kentucky ballistics doesnt like furbies and always ends up destroying them when he has them in his videos 😂
Nooooo that's the creepiest model Furby ever! When I took mine apart in 2012, it was extremely grumpy and kept "vomiting". 😆 The newest one is much cuter-- I just did a teardown on my channel. Your giant Furby turned out great, James!
I never thought I'd relate to a Furby, but grumpy and vomiting is just how I'd react to being taken apart.

The original battery layout it had was kinda fun. I've never seen a compartment like that.
I’m kinda sad I’ve completed the loop. But kinda glad it ended on a video from a creator I wasn’t aware of. I love the channel so far. The furby was pretty friggin cool.

Very interesting build! We’ve just embarked on building a giant Furby, but ours is going to be based on the 2005/6 version, rather than a Furby Boom, and will only be about half the size of yours. The 2005/6 was the only version with voice recognition & well be using a voice recognition module.
a neat MK2 feature might include Becky Stern's clock feature, following eyes if its not in a talking mood.
I never thought I would see James sewing pink zebra print fur. Such a lot of work went into this.

Hey James, I just wanted to drop a "kudos" here for continually disclosing your sponsorships. You know how when you spin a coin on a flat surface and nearing the end of the spin it is nearly laying horizontally and starts doing rapid wobbles aka Euler's Disk? Maybe you could build some sort of hover craft, or something that uses one or more of these wobbling disks to move around.
I wish we’d seen James with an apron and a chefs hat on while taking the Furby apart!

It's a creative secret Santa gift, but I'm glad I'm a senior adult, as the idea of a giant furby reminds me of the late night horror films of decades ago like the killer puppets or demonic toys.

I can’t believe you chose the newer furby type.
Great project! I am just worried with the 3D printing designs. It seems like they need a lot of filament to print. Maybe some modifications could reduce filament quantity and print time, while still providing enough strength.
I have a question how did you learn to build such cool robots and how can I learn?

Hi , I am a great fan of your channel. I learnt a lot of things and got success in designing & 3d printing. Thanks a lot man. I am working on an odd project in which i wanted to calculate my laser engraving machine (DIY) laser head movement. My thinking is to calculate pulses of x & y stepper driver every fixed interval and calculate its tangent and add up its values till one job completion . As you are an expert of this subject can you suggest to me if it will work or any other method i have to use.
