Toothless could have been developing this new power(lightning)way before the last scene of the 1st trailer. In RTTE S4E8 Gold Rush near the end when they are fight viggo’s dragon proof ships, toothless goes underwater to take a blast at the lead vessel and puts a hole through two layers of the ship and when the explosion on the top layer shows, it has lightning all around it. But earlier in the episode he couldn’t even break down a dragon proof door. The question is, is hiccup holding him back from becoming as strong as he is in Httyd 3? Is toothless being trained to be too nice? Has the wild re awakened his more powerful side? When he was in the wild in the first movie he was way more powerful.
NERF THIS I agree but with the Red death toothless was under her influence to get food for her or die. Which means he was “forced” to kill in a way that he had to kill or take which is his “wild” nature anyway. And toothless being held in captivity has slowly washed away his natural instinct to do that. I see watch you’re trying to say though. But also in RTTE toothless fought a triple stryke and was going to die because he was too nice and didn’t use his full power until he was very weak and was for sure going to parish, he got up and it was almost like his wild behavior was reawakened and almost killed the triple stryke in a matter of seconds.
Matt Horton to be honest i dont think hiccup is holding him back but toothless is holding himself back, if u remember the first movie when the dragons are attacking berk when toothless takes out them towers with his plasma blasts the explosion was massive and deadly, destroying just one completely with a only a single blast and when toothless meets hiccup and becomes tamed that we dont see his blasts being as powerfull considering the explosion is smaller when his blasts makes contact with his target, u can notice this by the first movie, amost every ep in the defenders, riders and race to the edge series, practically when ever he fires and maybe when hes up against the red death but my memory aint the best so if u end up going to check might as well check out the red death battle too just incase I dont really include the bewidlerbeast battle because of the buffs toothless’s aphla mode or whatever we call it, but its not irrelevant to the subject and should in some aspects be include( i honestly have no idea where his alpha mode fits into this but it would somehow since this is an ability of toothles and one could even consider shooting plasma blasts or breathing fire abilities aswell so his alpha mode does come into this somehow) Ive been thinking hes been holding back for some time too and more deeper i think about it makes me wonder why

And for certain enemies sometimes you dont get a choice even when attacking enemy ships like dagur or alivins when berk was not at peace with them in riders and deffeners of berk, I honestly cant be the only one that wanted to see savage get roasted right? And killing wouldnt even be a problem most times theres ways to beat your enemy with crazy power and without killing them so while it is still on the possibility list there still could be more to it
The clip from which that image came with that new tail on the table was revealed at Annecy film festival. Astrid actually does reference the events of Gift of the Night Fury stating that he already made one like it and Toothless didn't want it, but Hiccup explains that Toothless didn't have a real need for one until now (to pursue the Light Fury alone).

I think hiccup made Toothless his tail fin from his scales remember in HTTYD 2 drago had a cape that was fire proof too and i think it was made from night fury scales or some unknown dragon which is fire proof from the outside.

I think the tail-prosthetics burning so often is a fault of the writers, leather is actually REALLY hard to set on fire. Especially WHEN ITS WET, FIRST MOVIE. That's why real leather aprons and gloves are used for welding, the stray sparks won't catch. And after the first tail caught fire (SOMEHOW), you'd think Hiccup would've realized that was a problem. But then again, the TV shows are the Idiot Ball World Series. See: on no, we're in a drowning pit covered by a chain net with huge gaping holes in it, and there are doors over there, wide open to the ocean! And our friend is tied to a wooden post with regular rope, and every single one of us is on a fire-breathing dragon with razor-sharp teeth and claws! WHATEVER SHALL WE DO???? Let's take as long as possible to get our friend free and blast the dragon-proof metal we've never been able to scratch over and over, THAT'S THE ONLY SOLUTION. Seriously, who WROTE some of these episodes...
arourallis I’m the first movie, it may have been so hot, that it heated the metal inside the prosthetic tail fin, and there was probably cloth on the first layer, which could catch fire and burn it inside-out
lol you’re so right. There have been a few things 😏 ab HTTYD overall that don’t add up & that’s frustrating. Guess that might make someone think i don’t like the show but actually, i *LOVE* it! That alone is kinda funny since i’m a 58 yr old widow. The entire idea, the characters, omgosh it’s consistently funny! If i didn’t adore the show i’d never notice when things didn’t “click”. That’s ok, it’s still a _GREAT_ show - i’d rather ignore/explain away the small imperfections & continue enjoying these wonderful reruns (for the first time). 🎉🥳

@Hello Future Me Couple of things with the Titan Wing regrowing tail theory. A. Lizards that regrow lost tails only regrow the cartilage. So if Toothless regrew his wing, following this principle, it would have no support structure for flight. (I did research this for other stuff, si know this as fact. Of course dragons would be biologically different, so maybe this is too. But the plausability of this happening would be like a human regrowing an eye. It just doesnt happen.) B. You commonly like to bring up the idea that T will become a titanwing. I dont thing that will happen in any of the movies for one reason specifically. Age. T is simply not old enough to be a titanwing. The only time where he might be old enough would be in the clip with a bearded Hiccup. Now, we dont know the life expectancy of said Night Fury's so this is still all speculation.

Hiccup made another tail fin that aloud toothless to fly. We can see that in one of the promo pictures, Astrid and hiccup are making one and toothless is staring.
Maybe the new mechanical tail will be made out of Gronkle Iron on the inside, and then be covered with Night Fury scales. This would give it all the necessary characteristics of a dragon tail, and as an added bonus, Gronkle Iron is great conductor of electricity.

Hiccup made another tail fin that aloud toothless to fly. We can see that in one of the promo pictures, Astrid and hiccup are making one and toothless is staring.
Maybe the new mechanical tail will be made out of Gronkle Iron on the inside, and then be covered with Night Fury scales. This would give it all the necessary characteristics of a dragon tail, and as an added bonus, Gronkle Iron is great conductor of electricity.
