This is a new series! I figured it would be a cool way to hit up movies and shows that I can't get around to in my main videos. Lemme know what you all think!
Hey saber! Heres an idea for a movie review if youre interested, its called elephant kingdom by lionsgate. I think you would have fun reveiwing that movie because the plot of the story is just so crazy! Btw keep up your awesome videos!
@@kyoyameganebereznoff I'm so glad I'm not the only one that has that reaction to good animation. Nothing's happening in a scene, but it looks so good that I get choked up!!!
(SPOILERS) My favorite scene in the movie is one of Hiccup's flashbacks. When he and Stoick talk about Hiccup's mom in the middle of the night. It felt so real and it was such a powerful scene.
Um except for the fact that Hiccup mentions "Night Furies" as if he is familiar with that type of dragon. And in the first movie he clearly did not know what a Night Fury was. They basically ret-conned his character.
And you see Stoick crying, which was really touching. Big manly dude characters in movies pretty much *never* cry, but you see him grieving for his wife like a real person and it was so sweet. @Shaddiewolf - in the first movie he did know what a Night Fury was; it was just that no-one had seen one up close.
The villain did have a backstory, however, it wasn't explained in the movie. He only mentioned that killing dragons made him a hero in his village, so he decided to kill as many as he could. So he's not just evil, he was probably consumed with his thirst for praise; he wanted to become the hero. Also, he's very passionate about hunting, so the hunt to kill dragons became his life.
Erika Ember - I also saw it as a parallel to hiccup. after trying so hard to protect the dragons, he finally meets his literal opposite. cause the other guy was kinda like hiccup, not popular, scrawny, an inventor and wanted praise. (killing night furys gave him what he wanted). like if hiccup ended up killing toothless when he first brought him down he would have turned into the villain, and now he has to face that kind of person himself. idk that's how I kinda took it
True but still the movie did not develop or truly made you fear or feel for Grimmel. His backstory could have been developed more and he could have been much more of a parallel to Hiccup like for example Harry Potter and Voldermort. When it comes to Harry and Voldermort you truly understood how Voldermort came to be and Harry truly knows he could have ended like him. Instead Grimmel is kinda just there and is evil because yeah he killed a dragon so he is evil, he had a lot of potential but wasn't developed properly.
The villain is exactly like Hiccup, not a fighter, but fights with his brain. The only difference they had was that the bad guy actually killed the nightfury when he had the chance
If they don't explain the villain's backstory somewhere during the runtime, they may as well not have given him one. HTTYD 2's villain was explained. Why can't they just explain this one? Another reason why #2 was so superior to this movie in my opinion
Spoiler Alert, I think: There was one part with the villain where he said, “When I saw my first NightFury, I killed it!” I like this because it tells you that this could’ve been Hiccup if he killed Toothless.
I think that's the main parallel that's implied. He killed a Nightfury and _became_ popular which means he wasn't. He's also not very large which means he likely wasn't well respected. Lastly he makes gadgets similar to Hiccup. The villain is essentially Hiccup if he had been heartless.
I had to literally tell my grandma not to watch any of the trailers bc of this problem lol. I got the ending spoiled for me completely, and sadly I left the theater a little disappointed because I already knew the end to this movie. Still a great movie though! It would probably be even better without watching the trailers.
Tbh the 2nd film's trailers gave away way more in my opinion. Hence I avoided everything to do with this film until I saw it. Got rid of any recommended videos about it from my RUclips and that. Although I didn't have a choice of seeing the trailers since I went to the cinema a bunch of times in the mean time.
Idk I didn’t originally like the villain at first because of, like you said, poor motivation. But then I thought about it more and really enjoyed the fact that there was a bad guy that didn’t have some tragic and sympathetic background. He just wanted to kill night furies to kill them all, even helping people wasn’t a huge drive for him. He liked the chase and challenge of finding and killing them all. Honestly I find it refreshing, not everyone is bad for a good or understandable reason, sometimes they’re just bad.
It seems like I found someone intelligent and who understands things, people think that villains always have to have some extra motivation, and sometimes, they don't need one
I liked Grimmel, and was really disappointed he wasn't expanded more upon too. He was the perfect foil to Hiccup, and Hiccup would've likely ended up like Grimmel if he had killed Toothless in the first film -- a viking who uses his intelligence and cunning to hunt dragons, instead of brawn and brute strength.
Agree. His character design is weird lel but his back story and personality is one of the most interesting of all the three villains in the movies (not including the series though)
I was disappointed with Grimmel. Unlike all the rest of the villains(even the ones in the tv series) he didn't have much of a backstory. He just killed dragons for sport because he was praised by everyone in his village for it. He didn't have a specific connection to dragons or any real motivation to get revenge on them. He just killed dragons because he felt like it. At least Drago had a reason to get revenge and try to control the dragons, his village was burned down by dragons. Also Grimmel was defeated way too easily. He was pushed off of the Lightfury and fell into the ocean, that's it. Drago had a big climatic battle and even ended up forcing Toothless to murder Stoick. I think over all the second movie was the best.
He reminded me a little bit of Viggo from the How to train your dragon TV series. Viggo was such a good villan and because it was a TV show there was enough time for his character to be expanded on and given alot of character development. It was sadly lost with Grimmel because he was a villan in a short 2 hour movie.
@@zoelindwall637 I liked HTTYD 3 too. Overall I really liked it. But it felt kind of rushed at the end to me. Grimmel was a very smart villain that had great battle strategies. But in the end he was defeated by being pushed off the Lightfury and falling into the ocean, that's it. I was waiting for a big climactic battle where Hiccup comes up with a super clever strategy that works and outsmarts Grimmel, but that never happens. Hiccup and some of the other riders just charge straight into battle, take out a few dragon hunters, set their dragons free, and face off with Grimmel right away. And the face off is just Grimmel trying to recapture Toothless and the Lightfury, no big face off. The battle in the end was anticlimactic and wasn't much of a battle. We got a great battle in the 2nd movie, so I was disappointed there really wasn't one in the final movie. And I also wish Grimmel had a reason for taking out dragons, he didn't really have a backstory and was one of the only villains that didn't, even ones from the TV shows did. I did like the 3rd movie, but it felt like those things were missing and should have been included. If they expanded Grimmel's backstory and added a strategic final battle scene it would have been nearly perfect. Grimmel had a lot of potential as a villain but he felt less threatening in the end because he was easily defeated.
He had numerous allies in the Netflix series but we never see them in the movie. Where is Dagger and Heather or the Guardians or the Maidens who can fly as they have baby dragons attached to them?
I tried watching the tv show but it was so obnoxious, boring, and ugly that I could barely get through the first episode. Animation in general is not only for kids, but this show sure seems like it.
@@Kicksno1fan Which series did you watch? The rider's of berk is kind of bland but has some good moments. However I feel Race to the Edge was far Superior. I recommend watching that. I agree with you about the animation is for kids trope, but Race to Edge has some serious elements which I was surprised to see, fighting, battle scars, etc. Obviously low budget lol but still nice to see.
@Yowatsapp 05 I mean you’re kind of forgetting how in danger the dragons were. He let them go to the hidden world to keep them safe because he knows they belong there. It’s that idea of if you truly love something then you have to let it go
It is based on the vikings. Which is why they were pushing the whole needing to get married so young. It wasn't unnatural to go after the mother of an ex chief and Snotlout is established as a son of a well known man in their town. Of course he would want to get his status boosted. That being said it was understandably weird to have it in a children's movies but I mean if you can gank dragons, sky's the limit
Hey at least it's better than a lot of the animated crap DreamWorks has been doing lately. This may be the last of the good ones. Now we have to look forward to boss baby sequels and Shrek reboots 👎! Del Toros Trollhunters and How to Train series is the only reason I don't hate DreamWorks right now lol
JaxBlade True but at least there were legitimate reasons why the dragons had to go. Not just from being hunted but also because they were starting to overpopulate Berk.
Thought Grimmel's motivation was interesting, as in a parallel for race relations and not having them mix. He says that it would be CHAOS if the idea that Dragons and Humans could coexist caught on and his life's mission was to stop this. The most interesting part of that is he kinda got his way at the end when the Dragons all disappeared.
It wasn't really bad, but it wasn't the best either. The story dragged for a long time. The final fight felt anticlimactic because it was extremely short and because the villain was underdeveloped. I felt myself thinking, "Is that it? That can't be it." The goodbye scene was underwhelming and I feel like the movies wasn't long enough to really focus on the characters. The subplots contribute to this struggle for runtime. I agree with Saber's rating of a 7.5.
Ya, I agree it seemed like the ending was rushed. They said goodbye so fast I thought they should have built up to their goodbye so that it hit you harder. Also would have been cool to see the amount of time that had passed before they got to see each other again.
I think there should have been one more movie after this so that they could have planned a much more epic fight and a much more satisfying goodbye to the dragons. Maybe having the main focus of 3 the villain where we get to know more about night furies (I really feel like that was lacking in this movie) and 4 similar to this one but much less of the villain and more about Hiccup and Astrid considering marriage, Toothless having a girlfriend (Light fury), everyone saying goodbye to the dragons, etc. Obviously some action in both of these to give them a climax. I honestly think 3 felt rushed because they crammed so much into it when it could have really been two separate movies.
@@mafuyu8088 We didn't learn a single thing from the movie at all! I had so many questions about Night Furies, Light Furies, the new dragons, the villain... Nothing was explained.
@@Shaddiewolf Exactly! We get to see the Hidden World for a few seconds and wow it's pretty and... that's it. It had a lot of potential that was wasted. Wish the villain was more explored too, Grimmel was also... just there and was evil because he is the villain. Again more potential that was wasted.
@@mafuyu8088 I honestly thought they were going to bring Drago back in the 3rd film, and expand on him as a character since we never actually saw him "die" on screen. He just kinda fell into the water. But no, we get Drago Lite instead. Same kind of character but slightly different, and with less presence. Drago killed Hiccup's dad for goodness sake! What did Grimmel do? Just flew around in an impractical dragon-powered drone, rofl.
Ana Carolina Nascimento While I totally believe you, I guess we should actually give it a chance first... even if we think Toy Story was at the perfect ending already... (not including the TV specials, of course. Those are good, but they’re only good as specials.)
What confuses me is this: Toothless and the lightfury are the last of their specie, they have children, unless incest happens the specie is going to go extinct either way since there are no more night and light furys
@ Aika LeonHardt Incest is still going to happen with half of their genes only coming from toothless. The offspring would all be siblings or half-siblings regardless. The species is royally fucked. And now that I think about it I don't think the the offspring would even be fertile, making them incapable of reproducing. Night fury and Light fury are of familiar species(in appearance) but they are not actually the same. Just like if you breed a tiger with a lion or a horse with a zebra, the offspring cannot reproduce.
@@DragonPulse1000 i have not watched the movie yet, so dont quote me, but it would seem all light furies are female and all night furies are male? In which case, they are required to breed, which would still result in fertility
@Future Karate Master SPOIL ALERT WARNING!! Read at your own risk. . . . . . . . But at the end of the movie toothless and light fury have offspring. And neither of the babies are pure black or pure white, they are all both black and white. Making them hybrids of both Night fury and Light fury. So it is not possible to say that Light fury is just a female of the species and vise versa.
well you're not wrong, while the ending made me pretty sad it was a good conclusion. and the flight sequence with toothless and the light fury was SO BEAUTIFUL I cant get over it. and I love how they added a bit of shimmer in the light fury, especially in the moonlight.
*Spoilers* I was dissatisfied with the conclusion. Even if you discount the TV series as canon, the ending was still illogical. What about all the dragons that we at the poachers compound? Or all the dragons they'd discovered living in the wild? Just because all of Berk's dragons made it to the hidden world doesn't mean all of the world's dragons are safe. Did Toothless go out on his own to rescue dragons around the world? From the ending it seems like neither he nor Hiccup left their respective homes to do such things. And ten-ish years isn't enough time for people to suddenly stop believing that dragons are real. Unless Hiccup is an immortal being speaking to us, the viewers in modern time. I think it was also a missed opportunity to learn more about night furies from the villain. I know they wanted to conclude the series, but here was this wealth of information that they just glossed over. Why did light furies survive in the hidden world but night furies didn't? In that sequence you can see that Toothless's mate isn't the only light fury. All in all, too many plot holes for my taste, especially for such an intricate and well thought out series. I feel like they could have done a different ending that didn't necessitate separating the dragons from their humans. I know they were going for the big emotional pay off, but it seemed like kind of a slap in the face, really.
Myorp Right! Especially, Valka, Hiccups mothers dragon Cloud chaser! Those two had been together for over 20 years without him leaving her for a mate. Seems really odd and unnecessary for all the dragons to leave their humans.
@@CanOpenerSmoothDream The whole point of the dragons leaving was to keep them safe. It doesn't matter how strong of a bond they had with their humans, if the dragons stayed, both the Vikings and the dragons would be in danger. And Toothless is their Alpha, so of course they'd follow him.
For me it made little sense to let the dragons go when they killed all the antagonists, the main villain fall to his death and the others were in a metal cage in a flaming boat, like I would understand if the villains are alive or they showed that they couldn't fight back and/or save every dragon, so the best action was to let them go away, even that the Hidden World is only protected because you need to fly to get there, and all the villains control dragons in a certain way, so yeah not 100% save place to the dragons in the end. And I agree with the fact that people forgot about dragons was quite strange when the series showed us that dragons are everywhere and I doubt Toothless could rescue every dragon from the poachers... and wasn't dragon scales, bones and horns used all the time? One thing I still don't get, been years since I saw the first movie so I can be wrong, but wasn't the Night Furry big deal was that nobody ever saw them? Why did so many people know at first glance what Night Fury is? I know this is a thing since the second movie but still, find this so strange.
100% agreed, it made no sense. Hiccup and the vikings basically just gave up. That's the only explanation for sending the dragons away. And that does not make for satisfying cinema! Think about it, If there were still more bad guys in the world capturing dragons, then who would save them once the Dragon Riders disbanded? It is clear from all of the movies that the humans had to rely on their dragon counterparts in order to successfully pull off raids. Without their dragon mounts, they would not be able to free any more dragons. So they basically accepted the fact that evil people were just going to keep killing dragons. They just decided to turn a blind eye to it because fighting for something you believe in is just "too dangerous" or some bull crap. "But they defeated all the dragon hunters!" you might say. WELL WHY DID THEY FORCE THEIR DRAGONS TO LEAVE THEN?! It's all so very stupid and doesn't make any sense. I thought for sure that the bulk of the dragons would leave, but then the few who had bonded strongly with their riders (like Cloudjumper, Toothless, Stormfly, etc) would return because they valued their bonds over a boring life of safety in some watery hole... I was so disappointed, shocked, and frustrated with the ending. It makes the whole trilogy feel so pointless to me now.
@@Shaddiewolf Three movies and two full TV series dedicated to dragons and humans learning to live together to wrap it up with "lol jk we can't". It seemed like a really depressing choice. I think they were going with "dragons are real kids, we just have to prove we're worthy of having them!" based on Hiccup's voice over, but it made for a really frustrating ending for adults
Fun fact: the how to train your dragon series was based off the book Some of you already know about that but im just saying that for those who didn't know, so dont give me sarcastic replies
The whole "Snotlout hitting on Hiccup's mom" thing is a LOT worse if you've read the books....because Snotlout and Hiccup are COUSINS. Yeah, that squicked me out something fierce.
@@EzioAuditore117 AS far as I remember, Snotlout was not Hiccup's friend, but his cousin and an absolute bully in the book. I don't recall Hiccup's mom being a character in them, let alone Snotlout hitting on her, lol. The books, while meant for children, are pretty funny and are completely different from the movies themselves. For one thing, dragons and vikings were never enemies but allies to the Vikings where you proved your journey into adult hood by stealing an egg, hatching it, and raising the dragon to be essentially your hunting dog. I'd give the books an honest try.
I was hoping that the plot was going to be the Lightfury showing up, triggering Hiccup to make a decision about letting Toothless be happy - not some bland villain's master plan forcing them. I would have much preferred the whole movie be about Hiccup's dilemma with a focus on him and Toothless (and by extension Astrid) because that ending was so cute and satisfying. The plot with the villain felt pointless to me and a rehash of movie 2s. But I guess if that were the case there'd be a lack of fights in their eyes, which is a huge selling point for this franchise. At least the 2nd one had quiet moments, which I felt were a huge reason the 1st one did such a good job with the story. The 3rd one it's just constant running, fighting, chasing, etc. The moments between Toothless and the Lightfury are all the breaks we get and were great, but to me it just wasn't enough. I always feel Dreamworks should just push for a longer movie with these kinds because there's just so much to cover that it feels like something like Storks - intended for kids with constant movement and action to keep them entertained. It leaves this feeling of being rushed. Case and point: the movie is called Hidden World but while there is some intent to search for it, the movie isn't REALLY about the Hidden World. . . it's more like Run away from big bad buy #2 and the Hidden World is just a bonus of that.
Imo the stakes really should've been higher. The humans and dragons really could've coexisted. But, (spoilers for the books) in the books there is a three way war, between humans that want to kill all dragons, humans that want to save all dragons and dragons that want to kill all humans. There is also literally a gem that can kill all dragons in the blink of an eye. The book's stakes are just so much higher and really makes the ending feel so much more realistic.
The animation had me blown completely away. every character looked amazing - Astrid was GORGEOUS in this movie. The Hidden World animation and design floored me. That’s why I’m so sad it was barely in the movie, but probs cuz it was expensive. The whole movie is called the Hidden World and it was shown for like...5 minutes tops? There were a few conveniences that bothered me, and of course the movie was very predictable, but that didn’t take away from the amazing ness of it. I think one thing I absolutely loved was that the sequences just between Toothless and the Light Fury were LONG and you didn’t even need dialogue to understand what they were saying to each other. Just their noises, faces, and movements spoke volumes and that blew me away. The whole sequence of them flying together in the sky had me breathless - the communication was so clear even without speaking. I found that incredibly heartfelt and I would love to know the thought process and planning behind those sequences. The music is still absolutely beautiful.
LUC HARTWELL that movie was pretty predictable plus the trailers gave ALOT away, personally I’d rather see into the spider verse win (and this is without seeing toy story 4 or frozen 2)
2019: Overall, How To Train Your Dragon 3 was an amazing conclusion to the series, I'm happy another series has ended in all its glory with no bad sequels. 2026: How To Train Your Dragon: 4ever after
httyd 3 was so baad villain is not even that good. side characters are pretty bad. light fury was bad. toothless was not the same one that in first and second movie and in tv series or netflix series because he was so loyalty to Hiccup that he would ever left him or forget him. Where is dagur or heather or other allys that was in Race to the edge. And many many more things that were wrong. Sorry for bad english.
I can't be the only one who *sobbed my eyes out* to the ending of the movie when they let their dragons go. It's a powerful message, and an important one two, but it was so pAINFUL to watch and I cried because I *never* thought that would happen, but in a way, it worked very well for the ending Btw that dude tryna get with Hiccup's mom: *Why*
Hated the ending, not because it was “sad”, but because it through away all that was built up in the series. The ending basically said “give up on your friends and friendships because people don’t like you together”. It’s not to “keep them safe”, hell I’d say it does worse than that, what about the disabled dragons, what about the endangered ones that other humans were killing out? Ik they made this movie with the intention of ending it like that
I would like to see more reviews from you. You are one of the very few reviewers that has respect for old and new animation. None is better than the other for you.
I simply loved this movie, at the end I was crying at the thought of this beautiful trilogy ending. I'd like if there was some other hybrid in the movies or the TV serie. Night Lights (Toothless and Light Fury cubs) are the first hybrids we meet and I think it would be cool if there were others like them (maybe there was someone else and I simply don't remember), even cause Night and Light Furies were really similar 'cause the second are just a subspecies, an hybrid between two different dragons (obviously not two incompatible breeds) could be really interesting to see and have a cooler look.
I remember being most impressed by the scene where he was painting toothless's new tail. Like that was some really good animation and attention to detail there.
I'm curious to hear what Anakin Skywalker has to say about the sand being gorgeous: "I don't like sand, it's coarse, rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere."
I want to seriously thank you for being one of the only reviewers that doesn't just shit on everything. You gave good points, showed where it was weak and praised it for its strong points. You didn't just go "I just saw HTTYD3 and it was total trash", you gave it a totally reasonable rating! Personally I enjoyed it a lot, but I am totally biased because I loved the whole series LOL But that all aside, you did a great job and I look forward to seeing this new series!
I have to agree with the whole storyline part of the movie. When I saw that, I believe his name was Snotlout(???), wanted to get with Hiccup’s mom I laughed out loud. Like what is the point to having that in the movie????
Ya I totally agree with everything you said. One thing I just thought was a bit quirky was the relationship between Fishmeat and the Crimson Gorecutter. Fishmeat was the baby dragon that Fishlegs was always carrying around, Meatlug's baby. The Crimson Gorecutter is the huge moose-antler dragon.
The theme of this movie was terrible, tbh. It's not just about saying goodbye, it's about the Vikings and dragons all returning to the in-groups they had before the events of HTTYD 1, because they found out that improving the world is really hard and decided to just give up on it. It's a complete betrayal of what the first movie was about, and it unfortunately ended in a way that prevents the possibility of it being fixed with a future installment.
not only that but the main characters just give up and let the villain win. Terrible message and horrible viewing experience, and as you said is makes the 1st and 2nd movie irrelevant. I consider it the worst movie of all time.
Also the lightfury . The design was...interesting, to say the least. Obviously she was designed to be 'girl character for man' which is really disappointing. Nightfuries are still doomed, just because she had a bunch of hybrid babies with toothless doesn't really mean the species is saved. It could've been so much more.
I will miss this trilogy it has been fun but all good things must come to an end at some point. In my opinion tho the best vilain we got was Viggo not only did he have power and an army of dragon hunters he also out smarted Hiccup many times, he also managed to tame a Skrill witch is something almost no one has done and they both went out in a blaze of electick glory.
We still have the mini movies and all the tv series which are canon so it's not just 3 movies. Hopefully we get another tv series that is connected to the third movie then like how the second movie had a prequel series
I agree with everything you said! I loved the sand too, lol! Also, the camera work looked stunning, especially in the air - the flying scenes even had the effect of a shaky cam, reminiscent of the documentaries filmed from a helicopter. Gorgeous.
To be funny? but seriously why would someone hitting on an older person who already had a kid (Hiccup), and is who is one of said kid's friends; be funny? What makes it even worse is that Snotlout is Hiccup's cousin in the books. What were they trying to do, make an incest joke??
I watched the movie yesterday, the animation is beautiful. And my favorite parts is "Get out of my house" and then the flashback of Stoick, he was crying for the first time.
for me, this movie was the least memorable movie in the trilogy. i completely forgot the plot after a couple of months, but i remembered the plot of httyd1 around 6 years later
Httyd 3: creates a majestic and stunning underground world with pretty rocks and is a part of the movie poster Saberspark: *HAVE YOU EVER SEEN SUCH GOOD LOOKING SAND??*
@Secret_Name I'd say he would be electric/dragon due to some events that happen in the movie, I get why you would think he would be dark type (Color of his scales, Name etc) But his electric abilities shouldn't go unnoticed, (another thing is that Zekrom has black scales and is an electric/Dragon type) and he's called a dragon multiple times in the movies therefore I believe Toothless is a dragon.
I like this new serise, its kind of like what my favorite Music Critic RUclipsrs do but with you its giving criticisms to what's new animation and i like that, i can't wait for more short review, saber keep it up.
I actually felt kind of the opposite when it comes to the side characters. In the second movie the bonds and relationships between the characters, their dragons and each other felt a lot stronger. I don’t ONLY care about toothless and hiccup, all the other side characters have their charm and purpose but it wasn’t quite there (although I did enjoy that scene with ruffnut) stormfly wasn’t as bouncy and fun. Hookfang, meatlug, barf and belch were barely there. Idk I guess I was into more than just the movies and grew to care a whole bunch about the other characters and their dragons too. Also, toothless kinda seems a lot more anxious to leave? Like there was a scene where he was hesitant to leave but he kinda seemed more than excited to go. I enjoyed the movie, don’t get me wrong, it just felt off. I know the purpose of the movie was to lead up to toothless leaving and starting a family, and all the dragons leaving but it felt kinda halfhearted when they did.
Ye... and the developers have done not so good work on the story and characters really... looks like the developers pushed it more for the younger audience this time... like... when they called the light fury toothless'es(?) "Girlfriend" and not "mate" and its overall kinda dorky compare to the first 2 movies. And everything happens so fast!! And the movie is like 100 mins long!! It should have been like 2 hours long. Cuz everything is all over the place. And they made astrid very... like... just annoying in this movie. And we dont get to hear anything like... deeper in the story. Like he said in this review "why is the dude hunting dragons?" So ye. Its overall very "on the surface" so... i'd rate this 3 out of 5 but the animation and graphics are good.
The other night I finally watched the last How To Train Your Dragon film and I really loved the film at first, but after having a couple days to think about it I feel like it honestly really defeats the message of the rest of the entire series. I still love the movie, and I can see why they went with the ending they did, and it's definitely the most realistic ending, but I feel like it would have been so much better if instead they had of decided that instead of having dragons hide away until the world is safe for them, for the berkians to hide with them until that day. The whole message of the first two films is to be who you are un-apologetically and without shame, and to accept those who are, and this ending just seems like an admission of defeat to do so. If they had of went with the dragons it would have been like "Well, the dragons will always be in danger up here until our society changes, so we'll just wait with them until you're ready." instead of being like "Well, the dragons will always be in danger up here until our society changes, so we may as well just send them away until we're all ready". It's still the same idea, but it doesn't feel like an admission of defeat, and is instead more like a statement of defiance against the rest of humanity. That's really my biggest, and only, issue with this film to be completely honest.
I don’t get how at the end they said that all dragons disappeared when just their dragons went to the dragon world and not the wild ones And also i have no idea what do dragons eat in the dragon worl That just didn’t make sense me
@@LozzieOzzzie Old comment, I know. Speed stingers can "island hop", run short distances between nearby islands. They can't run on water for that long however.
I really like the third “How to Train Your Dragon” sequel and it was the finale that we wanted to see cool dragons find their hidden home. The only things I do enjoy is Hiccup, Astrid, and Toothless because of their story arcs and their motivation of setting up in this story were great and I do care of how Hiccup can find the hidden world so that many dragons can be safe place and his followers have to have their hidden home in his future place. Which is a good thing so that the main character have good choices can take. Will he keep the dragons? Will his father request him to bring dragons in a secure place or keep them as promise? Or will Hiccup have let go Toothless so he can lead his dragons and his loved one in a different way? That’s what I liked about including two films were satisfied follow-up and you can tell they’re making it a good unique finale. The animation was brilliant, the dragons love scenes were cute, and they’re gorgeous action and amazing designs were fascinating. One downsize is that I agree of what Saber said that some of his friends were a bit subplot and the whole premise felt the same scenes all over again were just nothing new. Even the villain was a bit lackluster because he wanted to destroy dragons instead of getting reward for killing our main leader of the dragons which is Toothless was of course. I can see how these characters weren’t that special and it’s almost trying to do something different. Like I get it, but I do wanted to see some cool dragons and I’m only root for is the main character and not only that, the finale was so good that it finally made Hiccup’s last moment that he let go, get married, and coming back so that he wanted to ride one last time. That finale part was emotionally well done and it’s great to have the series done throughout nine years. Overall, it’s a good finale dragons film and should check it out. I’m giving a 8/10 because it’s a good film that I enjoy most are the main lead, Toothless, the animation, love scenes, good action, finale, great score, and fantastic animation effects. Despite the supporting characters, cutesy kids cliches, and the main bad guy.
This would be a great series for your channel! I love your videos man, and I can't wait for what's next. Keep up the good work. The first one I really liked for how unique and original it was. My favorite however is the second one. It had such an Empire Strikes Back feel and 'epicness' to it. I enjoyed this third one, but not as good as the sequel. Also, 7.5/10?... That's exactly what I gave it too!
I was worried about it being a copy from the trailers. Find a new world, stop a bad guy from capturing dragons, have baby dragons help along the way. It all seemed familiar.
This is a new series! I figured it would be a cool way to hit up movies and shows that I can't get around to in my main videos. Lemme know what you all think!

Mud Fox :DDDDDDDDDD , I am proud of you Mud Fox.
@@Shaddiewolf Um, he does know what Night Furies are. He never said he didn't. He just never actually saw one
I know! Little Hiccup saying "are you going to get us a new mom?" was the sweetest, most innocent thing in the world!

Ninja Master - oh yeah I definitely see/agree to that side as well, there could have been more character development there
The villain is exactly like Hiccup, not a fighter, but fights with his brain.
I completely agree! The movie did tend to DRAG-ON, but when it did pickup, it would really Hiccup!

Spoiler Alert, I think:
There was one part with the villain where he said, “When I saw my first NightFury, I killed it!” I like this because it tells you that this could’ve been Hiccup if he killed Toothless.
@@quintinfoutz i know that was my reaction too in the theathre
I think that's the main parallel that's implied. He killed a Nightfury and _became_ popular which means he wasn't. He's also not very large which means he likely wasn't well respected. Lastly he makes gadgets similar to Hiccup. The villain is essentially Hiccup if he had been heartless.
Grimmil is Hiccup's heartless confirmed!
Finally!I'm not the only one!I was just about to comment that
He was an alright villain but he was a lot better than Drago IMP
I’m just a bit frustrated of trailers spoiling the majority of the plot.
Like them showing Hiccup with a beard? Yeah I didn't know till I watched it that was a spoiler
I think you mean the trailers were the entire film without the end and filler. XD
I had to literally tell my grandma not to watch any of the trailers bc of this problem lol. I got the ending spoiled for me completely, and sadly I left the theater a little disappointed because I already knew the end to this movie. Still a great movie though! It would probably be even better without watching the trailers.
That's how I felt with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
2:50 finally somebody else mentions the sand!
The sand was the best part of the animation. It's just so well done! It's the little things.
I LOVED THE SAND TOO
I KNOW!!! they somehow made the sand look dry in one scene and then wet in another and then kinda damp in another and it was fabulous
I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME IM LIKE “DOES ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THE SAND!?!?”
It was beautiful

That shit had me cracking up in the theater XD I disagree with Saber, the twins were so great in this movie (the one short guy was creepy though)

Jason Martin I love how to train your dragon 3 especially since grimmel reminds me of farlo ,
@@zoelindwall637 I liked HTTYD 3 too.
I recommend watching the Netflix's series. I think ppl would like Hiccup's weird friends more and understand why they're like that
He had numerous allies in the Netflix series but we never see them in the movie. Where is Dagger and Heather or the Guardians or the Maidens who can fly as they have baby dragons attached to them?

Yo it's Jax in the house!
I was too annoyed/pissed about how little sense it made and how inconsistent it was to the rest of the series, I failed to realize Grimmel won.

Clara Bowlby I agree especially about the thing about the ‘side’ characters and the villain
I kinda felt like this was the weakest of the trilogy. I felt like the Hidden World wasn't developed enough.
Right? The whole movie is named after The Hidden World, but we see like 5 minutes of it...
Same here. I dont even get why it was called the Hidden World when we barely get to learn anything from it or see it much.

What confuses me is this: Toothless and the lightfury are the last of their specie, they have children, unless incest happens the specie is going to go extinct either way since there are no more night and light furys
STEVE BILLYBOB Actually, there are other Lightfuries. In the trailer, at least.
if you look closely in some of the background shots, you can see other lightfuries there
@ Aika LeonHardt Incest is still going to happen with half of their genes only coming from toothless.

@@stephaniewozny3852 WHAT THE FUCK?!? OK IM NOT READING THE BOOKS THEN
@@EzioAuditore117 AS far as I remember, Snotlout was not Hiccup's friend, but his cousin and an absolute bully in the book.
So do they finally train their dragons or not?
@You know He had to do it to em The dragon trained the people?
They thought the Vikings to depend on their own people instead of dragons.

2019: Overall, How To Train Your Dragon 3 was an amazing conclusion to the series, I'm happy another series has ended in all its glory with no bad sequels.

httyd 3 was so baad villain is not even that good. side characters are pretty bad. light fury was bad. toothless was not the same one that in first and second movie and in tv series or netflix series because he was so loyalty to Hiccup that he would ever left him or forget him. Where is dagur or heather or other allys that was in Race to the edge. And many many more things that were wrong. Sorry for bad english.
aye! This is pretty cool! Itd be nice if you did this more often

More like how to start WW3 on my Minecraft server.
That is no joke anyone who tries to fight the ender dragon is banned and the progress deleted.
Please note that it is mainly an inside joke for my server.
I can't be the only one who *sobbed my eyes out* to the ending of the movie when they let their dragons go. It's a powerful message, and an important one two, but it was so pAINFUL to watch and I cried because I *never* thought that would happen, but in a way, it worked very well for the ending
Btw that dude tryna get with Hiccup's mom: *Why*
HTTYD 1’s Test Flight is easily one of my favorite scores ever. That last part gives me chills every time.
How to Train Your Dragon 3 (Review) 9.5/10 - Needed more friend hooking up with mom subplot.
vgamesx1 lmao
Ulk isn't that friend his cousin though, in the story anyways
No
*PLEASE NO*
Dude they are cousins...
Ik they made this movie with the intention of ending it like that
If you like the different dragons and stories, the Netflix show is AMAZING!
He didn’t criticize the light fury swing shape
It doesn’t make sense IT CANT BE PERFECTLY ROUND LIKE A D THE EDGES WOULD FALL
I'm curious to hear what Anakin Skywalker has to say about the sand being gorgeous:
"I don't like sand, it's coarse, rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere."
How do you not have millions of subs, these vids are so high quality and entertaining to watch, I’m just surprised.
Nice! A quick sudden vid! I like it when its unpredictable. Also im normaly not early
I can't wait to see this! Its great to see Toothless with a Blue eyes White Dragon!
Is there a dark magician too?
@@pyraffin I wish he were the villain! Definately make the 2nd act better!
So glad someone is doing something no one has ever done before, review movies on RUclips
*_I’M GLAD I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICED THE SAND, I CAN’T STOP TALKING ABOUT IT AND EVERYONE THINKS I’M CRAZY_*
Gorgeous.
Literally I don't even know what they were trying to do with that Snotlout subplot
Httyd 3: creates a majestic and stunning underground world with pretty rocks and is a part of the movie poster

@@Cosmo_Samoyed plz, we all know Toothless would be dark/flying at best - he ain't no dragon either
I think the parallel here is the episode bye bye butterfree
@Secret_Name I'd say he would be electric/dragon due to some events that happen in the movie, I get why you would think he would be dark type (Color of his scales, Name etc) But his electric abilities shouldn't go unnoticed, (another thing is that Zekrom has black scales and is an electric/Dragon type) and he's called a dragon multiple times in the movies therefore I believe Toothless is a dragon.

Honest the relationship between Toothless and Hiccup plus (Spoliers)
Hiccstrid becoming official
Were my favorite parts of this movie.
The sequence with toothless and light fury dancing in the aurora is literally one of the most gorgeous things i have ever seen in an animated movie
Ye... and the developers have done not so good work on the story and characters really...
looks like the developers pushed it more for the younger audience this time... like... when they called the light fury toothless'es(?) "Girlfriend" and not "mate" and its overall kinda dorky compare to the first 2 movies.
And everything happens so fast!! And the movie is like 100 mins long!! It should have been like 2 hours long. Cuz everything is all over the place. And they made astrid very... like... just annoying in this movie. And we dont get to hear anything like... deeper in the story. Like he said in this review "why is the dude hunting dragons?"
So ye.
I don’t get how at the end they said that all dragons disappeared when just their dragons went to the dragon world and not the wild ones
And also i have no idea what do dragons eat in the dragon worl
That just didn’t make sense me
Easy, they turn to cannibalism
I assume they eat fish from the surface since hidden world is just a hole below the sea.

So stupid, rofl. What's the point? Just poison a huge dragon and ride one like a normal person.

The test flight sequence always gives me goosebumps and chills
i have *never* been this early *ever*
So I’m not the only one who was so mesmerized by the sand! The sand animation was wonderful! :D
I’m planning on seeing this later today. Will probably watch the entire video after.
