I saw rush on the power windows tour.. it was my first ever concert and it was so f-ing mind blowing. The sound was just flawless (way before they started doing outdoor shows) thats the main thing i remember about it, --the sound was so pristine it was like listening to the actual album ..1986, early midi days too.. Ive always thought this era was rush's peak as rock innovators.
This was always my favorite song on POWER WINDOWS. It packs a punch and also maintains a wispy, airy flow about it. Nice melody.this contains elements later found in abundance on PRESTO..esp the rolling basslines and snappy drum rhythms. The guitar style, as well.I was really glad they pulled it from obscurity from their magic (Presto) hat for the current tour. They oughtta revive JACOB's LADDER for the 2nd leg . hell, bring on HEMISPHERES and THE WEAPON while they're at it Thanx! . J.M
I'd love to see it done. Some of their better songs have been on the B-Sides, and are therefore under appreciated by those who don't explore the entirety of the albums. Emotion Detector is one of those songs that were never played live, and it's one of the best off of Power Windows.
What a GREAT album. I got into them during Permanent Waves, I still think Power Windows is One of their best....I missed this tour due to a High School trip to Italy. I really contemplated not going to Italy.....
I saw three shows on this tour. Two were back to back at Richmond then DC. The sound for this tour was just awesome. And yes, they need to put this show back into the rotation.
Great stuff. Thanks for putting this show up on here. My one biggest gripe as a Rush fan over the best part of the last 30 years is that they never brought this tour over here to Europe. This helps a little bit. Cheers.
I saw this tour in Atlanta, Ga. They played this "i Think as part of the encore."... anyway..Everybody was DANCING..in the OMNI ...lol...it rocked!!!!!
I love this song. They need to bring this song back for the snake and arrows tour. It seems Geddy's keyboard chops have gone down over the past few years however...
Considering it is a bootleg, on you-tube, and done with1986 recording tech to boot, we can only get at bet a impression of the awesomeness this song must have been live. They really need to bring this back on the next tour. This time Geddy will probably remain free from most of the synth duties. The song will have a revitalized rock edge. It would be a sound to behold.
@sqeeze1812 UNBELIEVABLE!!! Great song. One of my favorites. And I remember it fondly in the encore of the Power Windows tour. This rocks!!! Thank You!
Diggin' the Time Machine - I first saw them on the PW tour. Seeing that hair on Geddy and his Steinberg bass, wow! Saw them May 5 (last nite) in Virginia Beach - he only missed a few notes. Not to bad for a relic...
Yeah they were darker. Everything got brighter and better light show wise from Hold Your Fire tour and beyond. HYF's tour lights were light years better than what they had previous. ANd then Presto .. even more so .. especially the lasers. Gotta love Rush for that they always put their money back into better and better presentations. :)
A B-Sides tour would be awesome. They include some of their biggest songs for the encore (Spirit of Radio, Tom Sawyer, etc) then fill the rest with great oldies like Where's my Thing or Alien Shore (man I'd kill to hear Alien Shore live).
@vaportrails44 I wouldn't say that they lost their popularity over here in Europe from not coming over on those tours. Certainly not as a live act. It was a real shame that they didn't but when they did ('88, '92, '04, '07) they were still selling out the largest indoor arenas in the UK and the atmosphere at the shows was phenomenal - really charged. The shows sold out very quickly and (certainly in '88 and '04) with minimal advertising. In fact, the same thing's happened this time around.
@trenken no, he is not a keith emerson, michael pinder or rick wakeman, but he certainly knows HOW to use keyboards to add to the music quality, and that's really all that matters!!!!!!
Im trying to find video from the toronto show if its out there, from 1986 The last song or the second last song was 2112 I think, Anyway I managed to get down to the floors and made my way to the side stage, and before I figured the show was going to be over I ran on stage and began head bangin and played air guitar next to Alex on stage at Maple Leaf Gardens couple seconds later a couple of bouncers grabbed me to throw me out...hopeing maybe theres video of it or pictures that are out there!
@Destroyer613 Totally great version here. Aweome solo, vocals, drums. The song itself-- well I always found the lyrics very very compelling. That is unless you watch soap operas or eat white bread.....ROFL
@matias8203 I been tell a co-worker that for years, we are go back to the 70's and work our way back to the 80's , every night a different concert! I will hit RUSH in the 70's opening up for KISS
@matias8203 I have a pair of unused tickets for the show in Worcester, MA 1985. Snow storm and cautious parents wouldn't let this then-teen go to the show.
I predict they do either Big Money ( it's been since Vapor Trails tour when they did it last ) or maybe this, Middletown Dreams or Marathon which is very possible cause they just did it on TMT so it will take less time to remember :) We shall see. I know this there have been more and more suprises with songs from "the vaults" ever since Vapor Trails
I think this is their most underrated song... wouldn't it be great if they went out and did a tour where all they played was obscure stuff like this and left out all the usual predictable stuff (Tom Sawyer, Spirit, 2112, etc)?
Finally grew my hair out been playing drums reading books riding my bicycle long distance rocking the 70s peart look now im ready for the 80s geddy mullet and a og steinberger a glass of wine as I look at some old baseball cards . then after my mid life crisis and I settle down im gonna go 90s bleach blond my hair short and learn the backup vocals for subdivisions and I guess earthshine go play golf and wake up next morning in jail for being a drunk fool
That would be cool, but honestly...at this point there's not many obscure Rush songs that they haven't aleady done. There's a ton of songs that they can't or won't play live ever again and the few that are left aren't enough for an entire show. The PoW stuff in particular is complicated to do live and I can't see Geddy willing to relearn all the synths and keys and triggers again.
Geddy was really having a hard time with his vocals here. Seems like his in ear monitors might have gone out. He is constantly having to hold his finger in his ear just desperately trying to sing on key.
@jaxmikey59 Me too!! Let's start a support group... (Which may have to cover HYF/CP tours, which missed Vancouver BC, grrr...) Oh well, many a front row show have made up for it! : ) Check my channel for lots of vids....Front Row Gorge!!
I was there in Québec city! That's incredible to see that after all those years.. Thank's for posting Mais où est-ce que Rollthefemers prend tous ces chef d'oeuvre d'une rareté inouïes?
I think Power Windows may be my favorite Rush album, and that's just based on the first "side". I could play that side over and over.
What's wrong with the second side?
When you hear them
......
You either get it or you don't.
Love💜
I feel bad for those who don't.. Opportunity to appreciate this kind of genius that comes along once in a lifetime..
@Cherry Red this is one of Rush's Tribute to DEVO !!!
good point
Life in two dimensions....
Alex is unique. Awesome guitar player!

JAMES BONG well said. I love the jam in this song especially in the second verse. This and everything from Presto is so under appreciated
I'm soooooooooooooooooo glad they busted this one out again!
I Love the intro of this song! Rush can write proggy stuff, but they can certaintly also write kick-ass catchy songs!
this is such an amazing song.. and even in audience recordings the bass synth that starts at 2:39 is clear as a bell. spine tingling.
BEST RUSH SONG EVER!!! \m/
My Cousin was a soundman for this tour back in 1986. Thanks again for the back stages passes too. Rush Rules !!!!
I'd love to see it done. Some of their better songs have been on the B-Sides, and are therefore under appreciated by those who don't explore the entirety of the albums. Emotion Detector is one of those songs that were never played live, and it's one of the best off of Power Windows.

Gives me chills man. I saw this tour. Power Windows and Hold Your Fire were amazing shows.
Essa é a maior banda de rock da história! ❤
I saw them in Baltimore 1986...my first ever Rush concert. I went friggin NUTS when they played this.
I love this song. They need to bring this song back for the snake and arrows tour. It seems Geddy's keyboard chops have gone down over the past few years however...

HO CRAP IT DOES EXIST! I had heard that this song was never performed Live! But it's here! It LIVES!!!
Love the Steinberger L2
The one tour I missed !! Darn it!
@sqeeze1812 UNBELIEVABLE!!! Great song. One of my favorites. And I remember it fondly in the encore of the Power Windows tour. This rocks!!! Thank You!
Grand design behind every single software project !
marathon was brought back for 2 consecutive tour legs on the time machine tour, i think it was the reason they brought back power windows!
Diggin' the Time Machine - I first saw them on the PW tour. Seeing that hair on Geddy and his Steinberg bass, wow! Saw them May 5 (last nite) in Virginia Beach - he only missed a few notes. Not to bad for a relic...
My very first concert was the Power Windows tour!!
I saw PW tour in Providence, RI and they played this song. So cool!! Thanks for posting!
Yeah man. You guys did it. Live
They played this and Big Money so far tonight. Awesome.
i need a time machine to see this tour!!!
A B-Sides tour would be awesome. They include some of their biggest songs for the encore (Spirit of Radio, Tom Sawyer, etc) then fill the rest with great oldies like Where's my Thing or Alien Shore (man I'd kill to hear Alien Shore live).
Shapes & forms against the norms.....
Awesome one from PoW!!
Why? They brought it back for the clockwork angels tour! Every song except for emotion detector and mystic rhythms is on the setlist.
@vaportrails44 I wouldn't say that they lost their popularity over here in Europe from not coming over on those tours. Certainly not as a live act. Absolutely amazing song.
Wow, this was filmed like a few blocks from my house!
AWESOME!!!! This just freaking rocks!
They'll still sell out stadiums on a B-Sides tour. Such is the grandness of Rush.
A band of grand designs.
Don't forget Marathon! That's my favorite performance off Show of Hands.
Increible!!!!
"Marathon " was also excluded from the Clockwork Angels tour setlist as well.
@trenken no, he is not a keith emerson, michael pinder or rick wakeman, but he certainly knows HOW to use keyboards to add to the music quality, and that's really all that matters!!!!!!
Clockwork angles tour is good I watch a tour of grand designs may 24 2013 in London UK

@Chudhole three of my all time fav albums. I agree that would be awesome. lyrics on gup are Neils finest imo
This is one of Rush's Grate Tribute to DEVO
@Destroyer613
Totally great version here.
Aweome solo, vocals, drums.
The song itself-- well I always found the lyrics very very compelling.

That would so rock! Many a Rush fan would be creamin in their jeans!
I wish they would do another Time Machine tour and cover Signals, GUP and Power Windows...
I get the funniest looks when I roll down the windows and blare the mid section when I'm stuck at a red light.
I think this is their most underrated song... wouldn't it be great if they went out and did a tour where all they played was obscure stuff like this and left out all the usual predictable stuff (Tom Sawyer, Spirit, 2112, etc)?
@matias8203
Alas, all we need is youtube, the net, and DAT feeders!
: ) Although a GeFilter would make a huge difference...
@SciMasterGeneral He takes a nap in between riffs during these syth era songs, kinda amazing in front of 17K fans.
COOL SYNTH
Geddy laughs at himself these days regarding his hair.
RIP Neil
@SciMasterGeneral
Incorrect.
Nearly everything Alex has ever done has been amazing.
Lifeson is fucking AMAZING.....The best ever
The light show is so primitive and dark compared to my memory!
It's digital, all right! 1st gen DAT if I'm not mistaken.
Woo
No you don't need a time machine.. just see the current tour. they are this good again.
That would be cool, but honestly...at this point there's not many obscure Rush songs that they haven't aleady done. This comment aged like milk

I agrre James, no doubt about: Marathon is the best song from A Show of Hands!!! |o| |o| |o| |o| |o|
@siitrom There is nothing amazing about what Lifeson is doing in this song.
SciMasterGeneral let's hear you play it then:)
Spoiler @ Vinny, you're 2 for 2 ^_^
@matias8203
i get it!
@jaxmikey59
Me too!! Let's start a support group...
(Which may have to cover HYF/CP tours, which missed Vancouver BC, grrr...)
