This was the original idea of “Drag Race.” It was intended to pair designers and drag queens to collaborate on the runway’s theme. I’m pretty sure Porkchop has said that.
The shows in the time were so serious and dry sometimes 😂😂 that’s what Drag race was build on. That’s why the earlier seasons were more cuntier and serious instead of the funny la la la overproduction we are used to now.

I honestly didn’t get sharing needles until til the drag daughter challenge. Sharon needles and Robin banks. Before that I thought needles meant prickly.
The design challenges sure were lifted from PR but I feel Tyra’s ANTM really pioneered the format and predated both competitions. There are so many parallels between RPDR and ANTM.
When Drag Race first aired back in 2009 a lot of people who watched it were also fans of ANTM and PR and the consensus was that it was a genius idea to mash up the two and make it drag.

The thing is, many of the male contestants are gay (I'm gay myself) so it's a little bit tasteless of some of them to not be considerate of what the drag queen wanted and what works for her job and what doesn't. This was at a time before Drag Race and queens had to work to their last dimes to make a dress happen but for these educated and trained designers, they could really do glamour - Vegas and all.
