    Hey guys, so this video was inspired by my latest tattoo that I started on a few days ago.
    I hadn't been tattooed in about 2 years so I started to think about all of the things that I do to make it a more comfortable experience. I decided to make a video about it to help other people that are thinking about getting a tattoo or who are getting their first.
    I hope this helps :)

      Lucretia J First session complete and it looks epic :) Pain wasn't too bad the first few hours. Collarbone, shoulders and chest kinda hurt, the arm was totally fine. I was pretty worn out after 5 1/2 hours though, so I slept like a baby a few hours later. How was your experience? :)

      Getting a tattoo is one of the most inane and thoughtless things a human being can ever do. How embarrassing.

      LMS brah your dumb getting a tattoo is not insane or thoughtless it's called ART. people who get tattoo's are expressing themselves in a different way. and I know this for a fact because I have 5 tattoo's and plan on getting more. Also, yes I understand it's your point of view on tattoo's but honestly people just need to get over it. One last thing my tattoo artist said to me on my first tattoo was this "you don't buy your tattoo you earn it" and yes in all actuality you do buy your tattoo but you do as well earn it because you have to sit through the pain (however bad it is) until it's done

    I have a full sleeve and I hardly talked to my artist, never ate or drink anything (4-6 hour sessions), wore jeans vans and button ups, and never looked at my arm. All that to say stop overthinking people and just do what is comfortable and relaxing for YOU. Everyone is different. I'd bring a book or headphones with my phone and watch movies and listen to music and my sleeve went great. Oh and btw I HATE needles, pass out when I get shots/have blood drawn. So if you're scared don't be. It hurts but it's not bad and you'll survive. The art and tattoo at the end is well worth it. That's all, cheers and good luck

    Just had my very first tattoo last saturday 3/28/15.. I did what you said, and it was smooth and easy. Mine took about 2 hours on my left arm. As soon the needle hit you, the feeling was not that bad, like a cat scratching you. The ink smells, the needle sounds... Makes you feel like.. i want more, true of what they said, it has this weird, addiction feeling.. Once the antist was done, the pain feels like sunburn, thats it.. Thanks for the tip. I didn't pass out, was not nervous. Fully awake and watching the entire procedures. Can't wait to get another..

    I wish I had watched this before getting my first tattoo! These were some really helpful tips to be honest; all which I could have needed. For example, I sat for almost 4 hours and when I was done I was sooo tired because I had not eaten anything and so I had no energy in my body, I almost felt like just passing out on the floor just to get some sleep, lol. The pain wasn't that bad when she did the lines, but the shadowing and coloring hurt sooo bad. I didn't look at the tattoo while she tattooed, because I was scared that if I saw the needles piercing my skin I would feel as if it hurt more just because of the visual image (e.g. hearing the sound makes you imagine it being worse than it is and seeing it can have the same effect), but I did look every time she wiped the ink and blood, just to see the progress that had been done, and that was pretty neat because you're all like "yay progress, one step closer to seeing the finished product!" :) btw the "talk to your tattoo artist" is a good tip, although people should take into consideration that some tattoo artists don't like talking while working because they need all their focus on doing the tattoo, but that is of course something individual to each tattoo artist. I've had mine for almost 4 days now and I'm doing my best to take care of it for the best results. :)

    • @DJPotato067
      @DJPotato067 8 лет назад +1

      +Anna Bananna it depends on where you get it. If you get it somewhere bony it will hurt and if you get it on your triceps and your hamstrings

    • @madeleinegillett5892
      @madeleinegillett5892 7 лет назад +2

      Really depends on where you get it. My shoulder was no issue but my calf killed towards the back of the knee. It's not whether it's bony or not but rather how thin the skin is. Back of the knees, elbows, on the ribs, collar bones kills because the skin is quite thick. Biceps and shoulders aren't so bad because people tend to have more muscle there and the skin is thicker.

    • @kingopp6787
      @kingopp6787 7 лет назад

      Madeleine Gillett EXACTLY! I have a tattoo on each shoulder and didn't hurt one bit I even slept on it but when I got my back tatted it fucking hurted so it just depends where you get it

    Great vid. Years ago I asked an artist, straight up what does it feel like getting a tattoo. He took one of his business cards and folded it in half. Using one of the folded corners, he took my arm and cut a line into my skin hard enough to break the outer layer of skin but not hard enough for it to bleed. That is exactly what it feels like. At first your body gets a shock but then within a minute or two it settles down. Biggest mistake I did was not eating beforehand.
    I'm getting my inner forearm done next month- going to be a long feather design so it's going to take about 3-4 hours, and I plan on doing everything in this video.

    I got my third tattoo on Monday and literally everything this guy is saying is spot on! My first tattoo, I was hungover and didn't get much sleep and had been at work all day so didn't eat much - it felt VERY painful and was just a negative experience. But this time I'd had a good breakfast and took a Lucozade & mars bar in (top tip - bring a bar along with you for your tattooist! If you get hungry they obviously do too) and it was an absolute walk in the park

But overall happy about my first tattoo experience, and I only felt a bit of discomfort near the end of getting it done:)

    I got my first one today, just something simple on my wrist, and I already have people asking me those three questions. I love these tips because they are so true! My tattoo artist made sure that I stayed calm, as untensed up as possible and that I breathed properly. He also talked to me during the whole thing and was really good about making sure that I was ok. You are so right, it does have a unique pain of it's own. And I looked at what he was doing while he was working, I feel like that gave me better control over what he was doing to me.

    I just got my first tattoo 3 days ago. Very cool experience. It hurt more than I expected, but it's a hurt I can handle. I found that looking at what he was doing without moving was better for my pain. At the end of it all it was more like a burning sensation. Overall it was good.
    I think the more panic and anxiety you get your mind det into, the worst it's going to be for your pain sensitivity. If you get in your head that it IS going to hurt but is not the end of the world hurt you body wont go into such a panic mode.

    I don't understand why people care about the pain required to get a tattoo.. I was thinking about getting a tattoo and pain doesn't cross my mind. If you want a meaningful art-piece on your body I don't think pain should even be mentioned. Stop talking about it and get over it. If you want a tattoo get one period don't cry about the pain.

    Had my first one done today and this video was a big help. Went a little bigger than the average first tattoo. A shoulder armour looking piece that starts above my deltoid and ends just above my elbow. Sat for 6.5 hers today. Likely another hour of shading left. Thanks again for this video, was a good prep for going in.

    Just got my first tattoo. I watched this video the night before. Breathing is really a huge step. Focus on your breathing, it helps slow your heart rate and keep you calm, but it also gives you something else to focus on that is away from the pain (mine was on my ankle, pretty big for a first tattoo.. and no numbing or any pain killers.. with lots of shading)
    My tattoo place didn't allowed food or drinks in the studio to try keep everything as clean as possible, so everyone should just check with their tattoo places first.. and always make sure you have a big breakfast and then go to the toilet right before you sit down to get inked.

    I got my first tattoo on this last Saturday. Using these tips helped a lot. It wasn't as bad as I expected and I am terrified of needles. I also found that holding someones hand while getting the tattoo helped me a lot. And bringing a book or magazine would be a great distraction too. But these tips help so much! Also, the best way for me to describe the pain is that it felt like a cat scratch.

    Im 52, and I got my first tat about 2 months ago, a four inch dragon with simple shading on the inner forearm. The outline felt to me personally like electric shocks going through my skin, and it tended to hurt more as the tattooist worked towards the elbow. But the shading felt like - well I can only imagine! - my skin being sliced open! It really hurt! Youre right though, when I actually watched him working it did take the edge off. And you forget the pain after straightaway! That's how it was for me anyway. It hasnt put me off having another.

    My godfather did my first tattoo as an gift for my 18th birthday. It was at his house, where he had this small studio (he didn't have a business yet at that time). What I did to ease the pain and discomfort was just simply... watch a movie. He gave me his laptop for the time and let me pick out a couple of movies I wanted to watch. Really helped a lot.

    Saw in the comments that your tattoo on your arm is a Cherokee Indian. That's quite funny because I have Cherokee in me, my maternal grandfather's grandmother was a full blood Cherokee woman and my maternal grandmother also had a grandmother who was full Cherokee, but what can I expect when my whole family is basically from Kentucky or from the surrounding areas.

    I still don't have a tattoo myself. A friend, covered with tattoos, told me that the best thing I can do for myself is to dwell on a tattoo for two years, and if I still want it, to go ahead and get it. Best advice he ever gave me because when I look at tattoos that I felt would have special meaning to me for a very long time to come, most of them lost all meaning by the time the two year mark came up. At least I can live vicariously through others when watching people get tattooed. hehehe.

      Considering that it's on your ribs, yes that would mess her up. Because while eating your rips and shit will move when you swallow. It'd be different if it was on your thigh or something.

      +Celtic Contemporary did you get your tattoo?.. I´m thinking about getting one there too! how was it?

    • @celticcontemporary4526
      @celticcontemporary4526 8 лет назад +1

      Regina Gállego Yes I ended up getting it. It took a total of about six hours and it's rather big. It was painful compared to the one I got on my thigh, but after the first 5 minutes I just got used to it. You might also want to ask your tattooist about numbing cream, as mine asked me if I wanted some. I declined due to the risk of the tattoo not coming out as clearly. The trick is to breathe through your stomach and breathe deeply when he/she takes a break. Make sure that you don't take painkillers or drink alcohol in the 24-48 hours before hand. Make sure you have a full stomach, wear loose clothing, and be prepared to take off your bra/undershirt depending on the exact location. Make sure you're well hydrated and get a good night's sleep. Make sure you can distract yourself with something, like an iPod. Your tattooist will give you instructions after the tattoo(s) is/are complete. Good luck.
