He’s also the least wavering or extreme, and truly fights for the sake of the fight to be over. He’s not a yeagerist, he isn’t swayed, and he doesn’t want power over others unless it’s to get by peacefully and not ending up where he once was. In a way, he just wants the very same as what Jean would want, but he wants that for the most people that could possibly be saved. His unwavering stance in his world that becomes so divided is really inspiring. Taking everything that comes at him with a straight face and stepping up for peace and comfort for as many people as possible, that’s why so many people like him, and why he will always be respected among his peers.
Also attack on junior high is official material and he fixes armins blankie on multiple occasions. Cmon how could you not like that

I really feel like Levi reflects the audience as he carries the emotional value. Eren carries the story but Levi is relatable in the viewer's perspective. I personally don't get why people hate him so much.

Because some people envy what they aren't but want to be therefore hate comes in

Levi has the best fights as well as some of the best lines. Some of his words are funny, some make me think, and some are simply satisfying. I also like his frankness and the fact that he's powerful but not arrogant.

I feel like the bomb thing is more of: the writer thought we were dumb enough to totally believe this could happen, but I don't think Levi's wary side would have allowed for any of this to happen, realistically speaking. Attack on Titan can be smart at times, but this was not one of those times... sorry. Moreover, him not being the smartest all the time is already shown well enough by him leaning on Erwin's strategies to get him through stuff (that in itself is not dumb, it just suggests Erwin is better than him at the strategic stuff which makes him seem less like an invincible one man army), and him failing to see Armin's strengths over the fact that he doesn't want to let Erwin die yet in season 3.
"Grump old man". Dude, does anyone on the internet know what "old" means anymore? 'Cause he's only in his thirties. And he doesn't even look that old. But you got a point with him being a shorty. It's now what the viewer or the fans of the scouts in universe expect, as Petra points out to Eren, but in some ways it adds to the charm. He might have gotten the shorter end of the stick in terms of height but he makes up for it in tenacity, speed and strength, proving even short people can be badass... and attractive. Even though Zeke mocks him for this, being like "you must be popular with the ladies /s", but Levi just shrugs it off with "I'm popular enough". He doesn't brag about himself, his abilities or position, he just says it as it is and he does his best to live up to impossible expectations. He can be crass, crude and rude, but he can also be kind, compassionate and reassuring when he wants to be. He can be violent - it's what he's been taught by Kenny, it's the crutch he leans on when times get tough - but it's never without reason, it adds to his flaws, and it can still be useful in situations, despite there often likely being more than one solution to a problem. Eren might not have strictly needed to be kicked the shit out of, but the treatment did seem to prove to the millitary police and anyone else that Levi was not afraid to take the titan shifter down if it came to it and was more than willing and capable of handling him... as much as it was a horrible scene to watch. And, right before he does this, the millitary police plan on shooting Eren, with one of them even telling another to "take aim". So he does more or less save his life this way. Because few things he ever does are purely good or bad, it makes him a conflicting and complex character, and because of his quirks - the way he holds his cup, and his obsessiveness with cleaning, for instance - he feels more human, more believable and alive.
He can also be entertaining and even wholesome, like when he's acting brotherly to his squad, in his past when he treats Isabel like a little sister, looking out for her despite them initially being total strangers, as he does for so many others, whether they thank him for it or not. Or when he says that Hanji is "abnormal" when she's gushing about potentially seeing and capturing an abnormal titan right before an expedition, while placing his hand on her head in what might have been a show of affection, platonic or otherwise. Or when he reassures Armin after the boy has to shoot a person to save a squadmate of his, a necessary yet still regrettable action. Or when he shows his vulnerabilities and his limits as a person when talking to Eren about not knowing what the right choice is, if there is a right choice.
Plus, he has that tragic backstory, that gives him plenty of sympathy points and he keeps having to watch people around him die, because while he is humanity's strongest, even humanity's strongest has his limits. He can't save everyone, even though he very clearly wants to. In another life, had he not grown up in the conditions he did, maybe he would have even been a pacifist, because clearly, he does value the lives around him and it shocks him to find out that the titans he's been killing with the sole thought of "well, they're titans, they're not human and they kill humans, they've killed my friends" are actually humans too, or in the very least were ones, and that some of them have ambitions and people to fight for too. Where the likes of Erwin finds it an exciting discovery, Levi is understandably disturbed by the idea, because it puts all his motives and actions into question and it means now he's fighting - killing, even - humans. (That part - along with some others -, I think could have been explored further, but, eh...)
Also, asides from him being this orphan that is taught the harsh reality of life in the underground, and loses the few friends he makes in the underground while on a mission, continuing to lose people while being hated for supposedly not caring when he cares about many of those he loses... he also like, only gets 2-3 hours of sleep a night. This man shouldn't be alive. I swear. And he sleeps in his chair, which can't be good for his back, surely. It kind makes a person wanna nag at him to look after himself more, which would already suggest that person cares. It brings a person to care about a character.
Wait - the cup thing is true??? Damn, Levi has a tragic backstory for everything, man.
Gotta disagree with that "perfect" ending sentiment, because him being with Gabi and Falcho is just confusing, and I think to some extent not all the deaths had to have happened. However, I am glad that he's alive, in the very least... but, where's his tea shop???

Maybe people say Levi is 'old' because AoT characters have a habit of dying young. So Levi is old compared to most Scouts.
