Finally I found someone posting the actual bike! I would enjoy if you did a first ride review of it as I'm considering purchasing it. Looks wise I think it's amazing (especially in black). Definitely needs a better looking exhaust tho. And the fact that it's based on 07 SP is just perfect
More bike than I’ll ever need, but man what a nice one. Just sold a Chief DH, this is a tempting replacement! Thanks for sharing the raven color way. Hard to find bike, I’m sure!
Thanks for sharing,I’m waiting for i’m waiting for mine in black also. Hopefully in June. That’s true it’s difficult to find videos of the xsr 900 2022 on RUclips or internet.
Beautiful bike! I been waiting to get mine but there's no available in Az yet been looking and nada! Please keep the videos coming and rife safe brother!
Thanks Lawrence for your first impressions of the new XSR 900 and hope you can do a follow up ride review. I agree, the way seat hump has been designed spoils the lines of the bike. I can see a big market for accessory companies producing XSR 900 replacement seats ! Stocks of the 2022 XSR 900 are just starting to arrived in Australia. Being a scarce commodity Yamaha Australia have seen fit to bump up the price, it now retails for $17,300 here ! Enjoy your new bike and stay safe. G
I've got one reserved in blue that I'm waiting on but it has been impossibly difficult to find any videos on this bike that aren't from the EICMA (I might have misspelled that) show. I appreciate you showing it off, hopefully someone does some ride footage as well. Got a Yamaha test ride event coming up that I will hopefully be able to ride the bike at and get my own first impressions
Great looking bike! I'm seriously considering upgrading from my Ninja400 to this bike if I can convince my wife haha. I'm actually fan of the seat shape honestly. It definitely has that retro outline/look that's starting to grow on me.
Take your time! No rush to upgrade. I kept my 300 for two years before upgrading to an FZ07. Spend your time learning to be safer and more proficient on a 400, and the fun will keep coming. The first feeling of learning to corner better, trail brake, power out of corners, etc brings way more fun than a new bike does.
Woah finally someone sharing!!! Love how this bike. Personally I think anyone can outgrow the seat. It's just only during the first impression that it gets you. Cheers mate, ride safe!
I second the start of your video, finally a real life owner of the 2022 XSR900, that raven color scheme, looks way better than what the pictures show. Good job on keep it clean man, i'm very tempted to go XSR900 but the Rebel1100 is also calling me, which one would you recommend? very similar in price and displacements
Thanks! And the Rebel 1100 and XSR are completely different bikes, what is right for you depends on your kind of riding. The XSR is a sport bike at heart, is much taller and more leaned over than the rebel, and handles very sharp and is meant for the corners and twisties. The XSR would do great at a track. The Rebel 1100 is a great cruiser, and is much more comfortable, much more leaned back, and is meant for light touring, commuting, or comfort biking around town. Slower to handle, limited cornering clearance, but is more stable. Passengers will be much more comfortable if you switch out to a passenger seat. Not meant for the track. But you are right, both have great torque and power. Both are priced great! But, two very different types of ride
@@SoapsAreStupid thanks for taking the time to reply, it definitely helps to understand both bikes better. Would like to take a XSR900 to the Distinguished Gentleman Ride but I don’t know if it will be taken as a classic retro bike
It looks fantastic. Rear seat doesn't look as bad in real life video at least. I never hated the seat in the beginning too bad. Not as big a deal as everyone made imo.
I got the old one. I just wish they would have upgraded the rear chain adjusters to quick adjusters. It wouldn't cost more than a tiny fraction of the cost to produce the orthodox adjusters and would be a great selling point.
Thanks for the first post!! I'm definitely getting an XSR, i like the yamaha Blue . Super sweet bike!! Curious, have they upgraded the throttle response in and out of corners. I've read mixed reviews on the older XSR's drive by wire being a bit choppy. Thanks again for the post!!
Yes! It is smoother, but the old XSR had rider modes that can make it smooth too. Standard mode on the 2017 XSR900 was not bad, but still very abrupt. A-mode on the 2017 was very On-Off and very punchy. I ride in Ride mode #2 on the 2022 bike, and it is a little bit smoother. I plan on getting an ECU flash to make it even smoother when getting on throttle mid corner.
I am also waiting for the NEW XSR900 in the same black color. In Japan, there has been no update on sales information since the announcement last November. It is still only on display at motorcycle shows. Have you waited long enough to receive it? And what do you think of the black color? I hope you enjoy it!

I think the contour of the seat is meant to keep you on the bike. Having said that, a painted cowl to cover or replace the back hump would look killer.
@@SoapsAreStupid I thought the bump on the seat was to accommodate a passenger, due to the foldaway passenger footpegs being up so high. Even if you don't plan to have a passenger, do you think a flat seat would make the passenger footpegs too high for a passenger? Wouldn't they be squatting uncomfortably at that point?
Interesting vid, Lawrence. It sounds like the perfect bike for your ergo, comfort, and skill level. Did you have second and third choices? Anyway, ride safe, god bless u.
I had a previous xsr900, and I sold it because i had to move. I really wanted another xsr900. If I wasn't able to get this one, I'd get 2) a used XSR900,or 3) a Z900
Yay, finally! An owner video! I ordered mine a few weeks ago and made a down payment. Unfortunately, with the supply chain crisis, I was told I should get it around Christmas. 😡
This pretty much sealed the deal. I’m heading out next weekend to lay down some cash. It’s so much better looking in your review than I’ve seen. I was interested in the new mt09 but this looks so much better.
There's quite a few available for sale in my area. Got to sit on both the black and the blue. Bought the blue one after test riding the new MT09. Yes, it's amazing
Looking at the hollow part of the seat itself. It looks like the bracket to lock and unlock the seat is placed into the hollow part. Perhaps this mechanism needs to be changed when you get a flatter aftermarket seat. Can't be really sure with the short time showing the hollow part of the seat itself.
Congrats! I thought the seat looked a lot lower just from pics a few months ago. I wonder if your knees are bent a lot more when seated? I have the blue 2017(bought it new) and still love the bike but I know '22 is better in just about every way except "subjective looks". It's growing on me though; especially the black, which is weird since I don't usually go for black but it looks better than the bright blue to me. Nice red accents help. Yeah it's great there's no electronics or components stuck up in that bulbous seat. That's one thing I really hate, that seat. It is hideous! LOL I'm sure a new slimmer seat will completely change the look for the better. Tail tidy, pipe, etc.. It'll look a lot better.
@@SoapsAreStupid Cool. Thanks for the info. I'm only 5'-9" and I don't have "bad knees".. well yeah I do a little I guess but that's what usually gets tired first. Having knees bent for a few hours and sometimes have to stop riding. But the ergos are a little different on the new bike so maybe that will change regardless of peg to seat distance. Lower seat wouldn't be a bad thing either! I feel perched up pretty high on the '17. Hope you can do some more vids. I am sure there's tons of interest! 👍
@@bwxmoto Nice! Although I mostly commute so I don’t ride as long! I would imagine it would still be comfortable as the 2017. I love the lower seat height as it helps with back-up parking in weird spots in busy city streets. Thanks I’ll try!
I may be mistaken but I believe, like the new MT-09, the rearsets are adjustable (2 settings), as well as the handlebars. That may ease a bit of the cramped feeling. Planning on getting one myself to replace my Trident 660 but I fear it's still months away from release here in the Philippines. Thanks for the video, Lawrence. Much appreciated. Please keep them coming.
Going to test ride one on Saturday. How are the forks? I’ve heard horrendous reviews of the stock suspension but Yamaha claim to have resolved this issue. Unsure how they’ve done this, as the forks appear to be exactly the same as they’ve been before. May I ask how much you got your for?
In comparison, the 2014 MT09 suspension is garbage compared to this. Huge improvement. An FZ07's suspension is garbage compared to this. However, it is improved, but not too far off from the 2016-2021 XSR900, with the exception that the this '22 rear shock has more static sag and doesn't shoot your rear bum off the seat on every bump. It is noticeably better, but not world's better. The fork IS different. The '22 is now fully adjustable with the addition of compression. So far, it is stock out of the factory, and it is very satisfactory for generic, lighthearted street riding & commuting, which is what I am doing for the first 600 miles. I plan to do a full suspension setting set-up with Dave Moss later on and after everything is a bit more broken in. The good thing is that the front is fully adjustable for compression, rebound, and preload. The stock front fork rebound is a bit under-damped from factory, and pogo's significantly with poor brake control. Rebound dampening needs some adjusting, but I am confident that the stock springs and fork oil is more than sufficient for even track riding. I feel no need to touch compression as of now. The rear shock is an improvement over the previous model XSR900. There was barely any static sag with the last model, so every bump sends your rear end into the air. This seems to not be an issue with this bike. I can't really speak for the suspension at peak performance. I have not pushed the bike that far yet. But so far, it is definitely an improvement. Summary: It is pretty good, but will need a full setting set-up to perform at track-level performance
In Northern California, dealers are price gouging with additional markups. I paid 13,800 OTD, but I chose to finance with Yamaha for 2.9% APR, 36 months.
Can't argue the seat design is probably ideal because I do slide back a bit on the old xsr but from a visual point of view it's not very pleasant for me personally, seen pics of this new xsr with a seat like the old one and looks a lot better.
How does the bike sound? This year's model is supposed to have a more pronounced and aggressive sound. You mentioned having an older model of this bike. Does this bike, as Yamaha claims, sound better and louder than the previous years?
100% better. This stock exhaust sounds way better than the old bike stock. But it’s not comparable to a actual full system. A full system will always be way louder and way deeper. But stock to stock, it is noticeably louder and gruntier.
Cool. I have a black one on order. It should be here next month. And I was truly hoping for a more aggressive sound. Thanks for the quick response. Enjoy riding this beauty.
Finally! A real person talking with the bike! Good job and safe riding!

Cool. I have a black one on order. It should be here next month. And I was truly hoping for a more aggressive sound. Thanks for the quick response. Enjoy riding this beauty.
