  • East Texas summers can be relatively dry. Summer of 2021 has provided enough rainfall to relieve most residents from having to water their lawns. The general pattern this summer has been 10-12 days with blistering sunshine, high humidity, and heat indices ranging from 99F to 110F, followed by a 24-hr period of 1.5 to 2” rainfall amounts.
Also, this summer has yielded very brief but heavy downpours via heat-of-the-day popcorn variety thunderstorms (enough to yield measurable rainfall, a refreshing breeze, and frequent lightning).
The storm featured in the video, although strong with turbulent cloud features, produced no severe weather. A cluster of intense storms pushed through Cass county near Atlanta around 6 PM, producing 1.1” of rainfall, and plenty of lightning strikes. An overcast and pleasant evening followed the storms, with temperatures in the middle 70’s.
