I just purchased the EL-1 and have much to learn. I watched your video and it was a good overview of the flash functions/capability. My only suggestion on future flash reviews is to maybe provide a little more information as to where you positioned the off-camera flashes. At times you verbally described where they were but without knowing the full scene I couldn't follow just what was happening. I realize this wasn't an off-camera flash tutorial, but an overview, but I don't think it would take but a couple extra seconds to provide the info I mentioned. Thanks

It is a great speedlite but yeah that price... ouch! Now, these photographers just buy up $1,000 speedlites like they're candy but for me I have to make due with my Chinese designed Westcott FJ80. Which is an expensive flash at about $329. So far it works but I'm not holding my breathe. I already went down this road with the Godox V1C and it ended up being one of the worst lights I ever used. I'm actually this close to just selling all my lighting gear and buying a couple of the EL-1's because I'm tired of lame lights that miss shots or randomly quit working....

      Hello:
The EL-1 is compatible with previous models of Canon EX Series Speedlites. See 3:40 in this video.
Regarding the Modeling Light, the Speedlite 600EX RT does not have the same level of Modeling Light functionality that is show on the EL-1. The Modeling Flash, found on the 600EX- RT, continuously fires the strobe for 1 second to briefly illuminate the subject. It does not have the duration and adjustability of the Modeling Light found on the EL-1.

    • @longliveclassicmusic
      @longliveclassicmusic 3 года назад +6

Canon's RF lenses are playing a whole different game from Sony and Nikon. I just got the RF 70-200 2.8, and it is absolutely mind boggling. It doesn't feel much different from my 24-105 4 and actually stays on my camera now whereas my EF version stayed in the bag. And then there's the 28-70 f/2 that also goes so far beyond the other brands. I also love that they made a defocus smoothing version of the already incredible 85 1.2, and that's going to hopefully be my next lens. Just be aware that a 90MP R5s is coming in Feb/Mar. They already have secret prototypes being tested in the field by trusted pros. That's the camera I'm waiting on to upgrade from my EOS R… But when deciding between them and Sony, I would say look to the lenses. Sony isn't doing anything revolutionary with mirrorless lenses which from what I understand has to do with limitations imposed by the mount itself, something that can't be overcome without a completely new mount system, and Nikon can't even flesh out their entire mirrorless lens lineup. I think Sony will start to plateau because lens quality is a huge bottleneck to what can be done with the camera bodies themselves.

    • @joshuamirabal9891
      @joshuamirabal9891 Год назад

Stay away from Sony. What exactly is Nikon not doing for you? I don't think you can do wrong with either system. I say to avoid Sony because they practically beta tested $2-7K camera bodies for a few years and made a lot of money off of suckers and they have the worst focusing 85mm lens of any system. That's a lens I use the most but the Sony has an inadequate motor to move the glass. Now Canon has the best 85mm but Nikon releases their new 85 soon. Best to stick with the system you're already invested in. For all intents and purposes, your photos will look similar on either system. I am a Nikon shooter and I want to add a Canon 5D into my use but it's only because I prefer it's handling to the a D850.

Would be cool to see Canon come out with a studio flash. But as for the RT system, being one of the first one to jump into that system with the 600EX-RT, I can honestly say that it has too many things that need to be improved. First thing that comes to mind is the range : 30m. I've had misfires in the parking lot in front of my home and it's not even that big. Second would be the interface of the ST-E3-RT which requires way too many button presses for adjusting something. I miss the speedlites as the construction quality was good, but a lot of wireless systems offer way more ease of use.

@@AlbertKel Again Alex, nothing is new on the subject of flash photography. Pure math/science, it's only 80ws.
      Most photographers don't that ATG/companies made 80ws speedlites/speedlights for over 50 years.
At the time they used the foolish word, "Guide Number 60" while real power on studio flash is in "WS".
Yet many amateurs up to professionals have light meters. But they never tested out for conversion of GN60 into WS.
So basically, you can use one of many ATG's to get the same results.
      If you had the following:
      1. Vivitar 283/285/285HV
      2. ATG Gold 60CT-4r, Metz 60CT-4

      5. ATG Gold SB-5000r, Nikon SB-25/26/800/900/910/5000
Many shooters got fooled big times because companies hire reviewers.
      EL-1/SB-5000/HVL-F60MR are overpriced/overheated 80ws trashes.
Here for example which is 80 or 150?
You do know that moving your flash just a few inches away from subject will reduce power greatly.

Do you cover a thermal blanket on your car engine when using the car?
But dumb shooters want sealed speedlites.
Do you really want overheating & shutdown & meltdown?
Do you know what happen when those seals dried & cracked?

2:22 You can achieve this result with a cheap YoungNuo speedlite and a Aliexpress softbox. So funny...
Don't need your 1,2K speedlite for that.

I just don't understand why all this very expensive gear is now required wen one sees the results some of these smart phones can give, more so when the software on the phone is utilised. A £6K camera with a 3k lens and £1k flash plus 1K of accessories Vs a £800 smart phone. There is not £10k difference between the photos. I just cannot undrstand who buys or pays for those photos at such a ridiculous cost, it's bonkers. Some one somwhere is really getting taken for a ride when they pay for these 'professional' photos!

Yeah no. Phones look fine on a phone screen but overall come out over sharpened too saturated and over worked. Phones can’t even shoot beyond 1/125th second with flash when shooting in raw.

Yeah honestly I've felt this way and even as someone who owns a camera. Phones are definitely catching up. There definitely is one area they're no where near close enough though and that's sports. If you're shooting something on your phone these days without having to use digital zoom... yeah most people can't tell a difference between that and a camera. Anything that starts getting into digital zoom territory on phones is where you start seeing a difference.
I used to say this exact same thing until I got my hands on a camera. Sometimes cameras even take too much detail in some scenarios. They're very good, but yeah for most people these days a smart phone fits their needs.

ATG says don't be fooled on this video.
Four speedlites are not cheap. Looking over $4,000.00!!!!
Yet, Canon learnt nothing from ATG's and ATG has on Sony.
Nevertheless, the world rather get ATG/Godox, ATG/Nissin or ATG/Youngnuo
Canon, this flash made for the pros will NOT overheat & shutdown like the ATG/Nissin MG8000 Extreme?
    No Bluetooth
No HV Port, making ATG Gold & Quantum Turbo useless
No 2.4Ghz wireless in ATG Auto2 modes
Bob Davis must be new into flash photography.
    He shoots with light at 9 & 3 O'clocks (0:22).. think ATG/Sony HVL-F60M & HVL-F60RM
He is carrying dead weights with the battery grip for a photo shoot
Silly shooting wirelessly flashes but still being tethered to a computer (0:26). Can't afford Canon WFT?
If one has the money and got fooled, they stick with Profoto.
So buying today Canon flashes are like buying a Quantum QFlash & Pocket Wizard.

@@jasonbodden8816 I guess you have no ideals that beginners shoot light at 9 & 3 O'clocks.
Now, jump over to Sony and see their light from ATG's, which Canon can't do because it's patented.
Silly Bob Davis shoot with deadweight battery grip.
He shoot wireless 2.4GHz but tethered to a computer because he can't afford WFT.
