    I have the pro and the tour version of Astrox 88D. The pro definitely has a little more weight than the tour version. It also packs a bigger punch than the tour and has a better solid feel. Nevertheless, the tour version is still a very nice racket to use, it just lacks a bit of weight behind the shots.
    Personally, the 88D pro is hands down one of the best racket I've ever used.

    • @upy0ur5
      @upy0ur5 3 года назад +1

      I can say the same for the 88S Pro. So solid feeling.

    • @RegensDominor

      How's the handling?

    • @HoangiePongie
      @HoangiePongie 3 года назад +3

      @@RegensDominor Due to a heavier head, the 88D Pro maneuver is slightly slower than the D Tour and the 88S Pro, so for example switching from forehand grip to backhand grip, backhand defence to forehand defence are a tard slower.
      Saying that though, when I counter a smash, or playing drives, switching grips maybe slower, but the power behind those shots are better and you can feel the weight of the racket head carry the shot through, super solid. If I have to compare with my previous rackets, the maneuver is close in line with the Z-Speed, maybe a little bit slower, or something in between the Voltric Z force and the Arcsaber 10. Hope that helps your buying decision.

    Thanks for the information! I just went to the shop asked for the 88d 4U G5 and purchased without knowing that there are different rackets at different price points OMG Yonex what are you doing? It was already enough confusing and the naming was only getting longer. Now I need to check what model I am buying! Anyway, I have got Pro version which is made in Japan but I would have been extremely unhappy if it wasn’t what I have gotten...

      @@CKYew Thanks for the video, it will help a lot of people to buy the right racket! 88D Pro is an amazing racket, coming from 88S 3U it’s definitely a huge upgrade for me!!! Most aspects of the racket are significantly better vs my old 88S. Feels much faster, probably it’s because I am comparing 4U version against 3U. Also smashes are harder, faster and stronger. I am just a club player but this racket is much more user friendly than 88S. I think even a beginner could use this racket, not to the best it’s potential but won’t have any issues. I think 88S is for PROs and 88D is more forgiving, I am extremely happy and can’t wait to see your video covering all three versions!

    one quick question, what is this whole thing about recessed frame? what are the benefits of that?

    • @CKYew
      @CKYew  3 года назад +1

      Faster swing speeds as there’s less aerodynamic drag.

    • @HaridevV
      @HaridevV 5 месяцев назад

      And a stronger frame as well!
      1. Shorter grommets = less bending forces on the cross section of the frame. This can help avoid breaking the racquet frame easily after a clash, where out-of-plane bending is the main culprit.
      2. Recessed frame = more second moment of area = stiffer frame which resists bending and beam forces better!
      Think about how much force it requires bending a pipe vs bending a I-beam (flange and web construction). The circular section of the pipe will readily collapse under bending due to structural instabilities. That's also the reason why hose pipes that aren't braided easily collapse on themselves when bent. And that is exactly what happens when a badminton racquet frame breaks, except that is metal so it cracks instead of bending.
      A stiffer head in bending and torsion means more repulsion power because the energy isn't dissipated as bending of the frame, and instead is transferred to the shuttle cock. I think this is what Yonex refers to as the "rotational generator system".
      These are some additional reasons I could think of.
      I think the aerodynamic effects could be negligible, but I might be wrong. Unless I make a calculation I wouldn't know. But I'm sure about the structural integrity aspect, since I'm a gas turbine engineer and deal with this every day.

    • @HaridevV
      @HaridevV 5 месяцев назад

      Adding to my above comment, the ideal badminton racquet will flex in the direction of the shuttle, but won't flex at all in any other direction - whether it is rotation of the racquet head about the shaft, or bending in a plane that isn't intended for shuttle movement.
      The shaft is the tricky bit here, because designing a shaft that bends in one direction but doesn't in another direction is quite an engineering feat.
