What they've done instead is create a very, very similar character whom they can use instead. Absolutely adore the Control - Wake - Payne universe they're trying to form here. I'm all for it. Hopefully they get the rights back to Quantum Break someday, since Control implies events tied to that franchise as well. QB also made references to the FBC.
@@ImJustLayZ The Max Payne games, at least Max Payne 1 & 2 were originally created by Remedy and i think published by Rockstar. Max Payne 3 i think was then made without Remedy.
@@ImJustLayZ Remedy's games to date are Death Rally (which I don't think is part of anything, but we'll see), Max Payne 1 and 2, Alan Wake, Alan Wake: American Nightmare, Quantum Break, Control and Alan Wake 2 (plus some online action game for the money, but that's definitely not part of anything else). Rockstar published Max Payne 1, then bought the full IP and franchise rights from Remedy and commissioned them to make Max Payne 2 (Rockstar later made Max Payne 3 solo, with Remedy only consulting). Alan Wake and Quantum Break were both published by Microsoft. With Alan Wake there was some contract reversal clause so after a few years the rights reverted fully to Remedy, allowing them to make Alan Wake 2. Control and Alan Wake 2 were published by other companies but Remedy got a much better deal so they retain full control of the IP and franchise rights, so they can do what they like with them, merge them, make references and sequels etc. Because they don't own the rights to Max Payne and Quantum Break, they have to make circumspect references to them (i.e. Alex Casey instead of Max Payne, Warlin Door instead of Martin Hatch etc). I think they said a few years ago that the rights to Quantum Break might also revert to them at some point in the future as well, but not Max Payne. Rockstar own that forever, unless Remedy can raise the money to buy the IP back. But Rockstar and Remedy are now working together on full remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 in Remedy's own engine.
I think people at MS would be happy to help Remedy with QB and the Remedy Universe. Would be the ultimate yerk play if they deny Remedy using QB, imo. I'm not sure about Rockstar, but since they didn't use Max and now is Remedy the studio that is bringing him back I can imagine they being open about incluiding Max to this universe.

Max Payne is a fucking legend, no man can stop him when he’s got a gun in his hand. Not after everything he went through, rip James M.
As a huge Max Payne 1 and 2 fan I'm loving this! I want a new Max Payne, a proper sequel to 2 from Remedy after they are done with the remake!
I barely find out he passed away. My childhood Max Payne 2001 I will forever miss the voice actor James McCaffrey. 😢
Late Goodbye at the end hits VERY differently now.😔
James McCaffrey (1958-2023) A Bit Closer to Heaven after A Cold Day in Hell.
💀
3:38 Felt like max payne 1 ending :
The were all dead, the final gunshot was an exclamation mark to everything that had let to this point, i released my finger from the trigger.
Fuck I miss james mccaffrey already
RIP James McCaffrey. 🥺
3:52 THE PAYNE
We was just talking about him and now he passed today 😢
This has me very excited for max Payne 1 and 2 remake
0:10 Hey! It`s Payne. Wreck him!
Whack*
"I released my finger from the trigger."
Max Payne voice is probably the best voice in history of voices .the way he talks his lines is just sensational
Duke nukem is a second best
R.I.P. James McCaffrey.
RIP JAMES MCCAFFREY
3:29 not only the outfit, he’s even holding the classic Beretta
Rip james mccaffrey you were my childhood memories
RIP James McCaffrey :'(
This is so cool. The lighting gives him such a ghoulish appearance, I love it.
0:49 Those graphics 🔥🔥🔥🔥
5:11-5:54 It's sounds like Casey described Max Payne 3.
It won’t be the same without our max anymore🥲
I hope McCaffrey had got his lines done for the remakes. That's probably too hopeful, but a man can dream.
At least celebrity voice AI has become a lot better in recent years.

Cold day in hell is a chapter name from Max Payne 1!
The voice of Max ❤
Its clear the voice actor has become older and more grizzled in his voice
I think its even better
he still sounds badass
I miss his younger voice tbh
You can see him having trouble to uphold the "Max sound" at certain spots, but somehow it still works in his favor. Like all Max's drinking messed him up even more.
Man's still got it and it's great to hear our old friend again, esp. with good, spiteful writing. Jackhammer & cement your name into the history for good, James.
Also, I'd guess they'd leave his original voicelines in remasters \ remakes.
@@JonPL yea I just felt his delivery in the anniversary special video they uplaoded was a bit better.
rest in peace mccaffery
There's no other who can do a better voice of payne then mccaffrey himself, rip james
Makes me more sad that he's gone. Rest in peace, James McCaffrey 😢
Rip james mccaffrey ❤😔
If you take a close look when "Max" goes into his inner monologue you can see Sam Lakes Original Max Payne Smirk in breif flashes
These graphics are peak uncanny valley. It looks like a video game when I let it play, but it looks like a live action movie when I pause it.
Freaky real, freaky unreal.
Absolutely adore the Control - Wake - Payne universe they're trying to form here. I'm all for it. Hopefully they get the rights back to Quantum Break someday, since Control implies events tied to that franchise as well. QB also made references to the FBC.
Isn't Max payne made by rockstar? It's connected to control and quantum?
@@ImJustLayZ I suspect they’re going to use Alex Casey to replace Max Payne of Rockstar doesn’t give them rights back.
3:44 "i had this dark place in my head for so long....sometimes id forget that Payne was there." that's what i hear
It can't be... RIP James McCaffrey 😢
3:16 you added the song or was it in the game?
