I have had a Wyze 2 outside for over 2 years. I live in upstate ny. Temps ranged from -15 to 98 Fahrenheit. Have it in carport facing down driveway. Withstood blizzards and rain storms. I just put plastic over we’re you make connection to electrical. 😄 . Just ordered v3 as I would like better night vision.
I started with a ring doorbell cam. Then I got a Wyze cam v2. I got a Wyze cam v3 and had a lot of trouble with it. I bought a 2nd v3 but the one I counted on the one that shows the drive way, kept giving me problems. I'm back in the Wyze camp for got now. Wyze is too innovative. I plan to buy 2 more soon as I can. Yesterday I learned via RUclips how to watch the drive way v3 cam on my IMAC M1 and on the tv with Amazon fire stick. Cool.
Excellent video! A third recording option is to store onto a Synology NAS. Wyze has firmware which supports RTSP. I have several v2 cameras hooked up to my Synology, so I don't need to pay for the cloud subscription.
@@ThisSmartHouse Can you do a video on how to get the V3 working with other camera software like Synology or Blue Iris? Not specifically to each type but how to get the camera into RTSP mode?

Great Video. Did you ever make the video on the Outdoor Wyze (with 2 month battery) that you were testing? I couldn't find the video on your channel. If not, it's all good. Thanks for making the world a better place :-)
Thank you! I have the hardware and a good reason to do it. Just waiting for a warm day. But I just received the new OGs and Pan 3 so I really need to get some Wyze videos out!!! Thanks for watching!
Yes if you are connected to your home network. So if you're on your Wi-Fi or connected via VPN to your home then you can see the footage stored on the SD card.
I'd love to hear back when you test a 'battery' version. I live on 60 acres with a 1/2 mile long driveway. I do have a ring doorbell and do pay the $3 month extra, but at least that runs off battery. I'd order one today if there was a version that didn't require a power source. I'd like to put one of these in a part of my driveway which is not accessible to power. Can I log into this with my phone from a remote location? I may order one to connect to my garage that would give me a better view of the yard. and I would most likely pay the monthly svc fee. (less than ring). I'll be looking forward to your test trials on a battery version.
I have been using the Wyze Outdoor Camera for over a year now. At the beginning, it was buggy (terrible life). But now I have a solar panel on it and it works pretty flawlessly (it is really close to the base station). It should work well for that, especially if you can have the base station close to where you are installing the outdoor camera (like inside, in a room). Yes, you can access it via your home's wifi. The outdoor camera connects to its base station, which connects to your house wifi (or ethernet). I am planning a video (in partnership with Wyze) to replace my Ring cameras (one of which is solar-powered) with the Ourdoor Cams. Stay tuned!
@@ThisSmartHouse thanks. I think I'll wait to see your next video. The way our home is set up - it's very difficult to place a wi-fi hub somewhere that would be OK to catch the signal from outdoors. Maybe they make a good trail cam with color? lol. my ring doorbell works great. not super great at night since it's only b/w. I was tempted to get this one but would need at a minimum 50 ft USB cord and didn't know how the integrity of the connection would be over that length of cord.
If you want to run something that long I would suggest a Poe injector. You can push USB level power over hundreds of feet. I showed an example in my installation video for outdoor cameras.
Great question. The standard v3 does not have color night vision. I believe if you add the spotlight attachment, then you gain color night vision. BUT, the brand new v3 Pro (a.k.a. Wyze Cam Pro) does have an integrated spotlight and color night vision. Look for the review on that coming out NEXT WEEK!
This will not work with the solar panel. The Outdoor (v1 / v2) are comparable with the solar panel. The why not is because this camera is designed to be on AC power 100% of the time. The Outdoor has an onboard battery and can be charged via micro-USB or from the solar panel. Review of the Outdoor v2 coming really soon (just have to install it).
I think there isn't any way to turn off the cloud service. If you block the camera from reaching the internet with a firewall rule, then I don't think you get notifications. It will still record to the SD card.
Thanks for the helpful video. I would run to buy this camera, but the lack of a battery / wireless option is making me be on the fence. I would really like this great, affordable camera with a non-wired installation.
If you are looking for a similar wireless option, they do have the Outdoor Cam. amzn.to/3qJQ9AF this is for the kit which has one battery powered cam and the base station. I have one and installed one at work. I will probably do a review on it now that it has stabilized (it was really buggy at first). As long as you keep the base station and camera close together, it works pretty well. I have an old Ring Stickup cam solar panel on it and it works as good as my other outdoor cameras now.
I am renting a house and want to install 2-3 cameras, outside/garage, keeping costs down. 1.What is your recommendation on brand/bundle? 2. Same recommendation if i want to limit holes for power? Thanks
I have used the V2 and v3 for all of my kids growing up. The v3 works great as a monitor. You can have it send you notifications if there is to much noise (crying). We used a traditional audio monitor to listen 24/7 and then jumped on to the camera to see what was going on.
I have a blink camera system and they solely rely on battery. I’m lucky if I get two weeks of battery life so I’d actually prefer plugged into power option! What’s the delay like?
These have to be powered off of AC power. The Outdoor v2s are more equivalent to the Blink. It takes about 5 to 20 seconds to load a camera via the app.
can you watch your live view on your PC? It seems no one mentions this in any review. If yes, how good is it? I have Zmodo and they are horrendous on PC
It would work you would just need a 12v to 5v converter (a cell phone charger). Are you running off the battery or is it externally powered (alternator or generator). My main concern would be running the battery on the vehicle down.
I haven't had my v3 outside in the cold but my v2 has been out for two winters without an issue. So I would assume the v3 would do just as well, as long as you aren't getting crazy cold.
It depends on where you install it. The gland on the power pigtail on the back of the camera is sufficient to keep water out in most conditions. But where you connect it to AC power is probably the most important. You can get waterproof boxes you can install in place of your wall plate that will protect the AC adapter.
@@ThisSmartHouse I was planning running the power up through the soffit and connecting to power in the attic, that should keep they high and dry so I think I can avoid the extra cost of the outdoor adapter and use that $$$ towards the subscription. Which I heard now you have to have the subscription or these cameras are almost useless as of March 2022
@@ThisSmartHouse has the wifi connection been reliable? I’ve seen that as the biggest flaw in the Amazon reviews? and Thanks for helping me out I really appreciate it
Mine are on house from when I bought house I'm trying to get down from house now trying to take hood off so I can get set up,like my doorbell mine are pretty wired by officer that use to own all mine are v3
I just checked and didn't see an option to limit notification times. You might be able to limit the notification times in your operating system. Are you on Android or iOS?
Great info! I am looking for a decent surveillance camera to manage remotely, it will be for an Airbnb and I want to make sure I understand which activities I must do on site, as I cannot travel often over there, and understand what activities I can do remotely. Note, I do not have internet yet on this place. Thank you!!
Unfortunatly, I don't have any Blink cameras (or have they offered to send me any). But I do have Ring cameras. They are different than the ring as you do get some local recording to the SD card. What are your likes / dislikes about the Blinks?
You can either use a long USB micro cord and place it up high somewhere or use a PoE adapter (I have a video on how to use them: ruclips.net/video/ODZnJag8BNs/видео.html). Just put it up high enough so no one can reach the camera and be smart about how you route it to keep the wire hidden. Or you can get the Outdoor Camera v2 and a solar panel. Same camera, but with a battery on board and build to run like that. Review coming soon....
Do you have to be connected to the internet. I have watched a few of these videos but they do not say it. I know some cameras can directly connect on the cellular network.
Now I have not tested it but I think it will work if you: 1. Set up the camera on Wi-Fi (with internet connection). 2. Have SD card installed and set up either motion or 24/7 recording.
Thank you! I try to answer everyone I can. Officially the maximum size is 32 gb. But I've read on the forms as long as it's formatted and FAT32 you can go any size you want.
@@ThisSmartHouse i just tested it with a battery pack of 8,000 mAh capacity & I was able to get 5 hours on it. I didnt max out the battery but for me 5 hours was good enough lol just wanted to share (:
Hi .Forgive my ignorance for I'm very new to this.Which one would you recommend to occasionally view a room from your cellphone while away from home.Pretty simple requirement.Have a basement full of collectables and concerned about flooding, though unlikely.Just for peace of mind...would there still be a monthly charge after the trial period? Thanks Pat
If I install a SD card for 24 7 recording, do I still get motion detection notifications and can I access the videos from my phone? Can I select continuous live view from my phone? Thank you so much for your time!
I read through several comments, but not all, so if my questions may be repeats. 1. I have an older security cam setup that uses "siamese" cables, basically one power cable(5v, I think) and an RCA connection for the video feed. Does someone make an adapter to plug from the power part of the siamese cable to the power connection that this camera has? That would be a big time saver to not have to re-run cables for power. 2. What is the SD car memory capacity limit? Seems most things these days only recognize up to a certain size card. And how much video can be stored on say an X size card, like a 4GB card holds X amount of minutes. 3. How is the video feed orientation handled, is it handled with the app or inside the camera via some kind of switch? Like if you want to hang the camera upside down from a soffit and of course you want the video to be right side up? Thanks in advance. Great video.
Hi @Alan. Thanks for the questions. 1. You are looking for a DC barrel jack to Micro USB converter. Something like this might work: amzn.to/3qfCUYa. Make sure to check the diameter of your barrel jack. 2. Viewers have reported that up to 256 GB works. The official word from Wyze is 32GB, but others have had success at much larger capacities. It looks like most people say you get 2-3 days worth of video (recording 24/7) at HD resolution on a 32GB card. 3. It is handled in the app. There is an option to flip the video 180 degrees in the advanced settings (I think).
No, because they would get caught on the camera first before they got to the camera. Plus that was just a temporary installation location. I would recommend mounting it higher up and routing the cable internally via your attic.
No they have a free tier for the basic services. They just changed their pricing structure and it's now called cam plus lite. You have the option to pay but it is not required.
Some cameras can use on-board programming to detect a person instead of just movement. Or they have a free cloud service that can ID a person instead of say a moving bush.
Not at all, if you have an outdoor plug and can protect the plug when something is plugged in (with one of those outdoor rated covers) then you just need to plug in and hang up the camera.
I did call and speak to Wyze headquarters and they said you could use solar but you might jeopardize the water resistant plug in. Would like to know your thoughts on this.
Solar on the outdoor camera? For the Wyze v3 you would need a battery and solar. I could see the water resistance being compromised on the outdoor because of the plug design.
@@ThisSmartHouse that is dumb move on their part. That limits their user base. Cause people want to be able to use their old pc's, Mac's, and NVR to have a cohesive security system. Because different company's always have a version of a camera that everyone wants. I avoided reolink cameras because they were only compatible with blue-iris.
It is more of a limitation of the hardware they are using. They are focusing on making the cameras as inexpensive as possible. Local streaming is on the of things they had to sacrifice. I agree, I would love to see stable RTSP and ONVIF, but unless the hardware takes a large leap, I don't see that happening. There is a project that will create an RTSP stream by intercepting the stream. This is a separate application that runs on different hardware (a Docker container). ruclips.net/video/YZVJ1yvdobE/видео.html
@@ThisSmartHouse it is not the technology. It is software locked. Because I I have old d-link cameras from like 10 years ago, that do onvif. These have a resolutionof 800x600 to 1080p at 1.3 megapixels. I have accessed thdm through my 2011 imac 🖥 , AMD computer from 2008 using free software. Even old Webcam's from have motion technology. The Xbox one when it was coming out. They claimed that it required the kenect to actually run, it required an always online connection, you could not use any other web cameras with. Then when people were not pre-ordering. They reversed that stance, deleted and unlocked the features they were deliberately crippling. Roku even released a version of the wyze camera V3. It just does not have the badging. The software is the same. But you can access the camera through your roku TV. The company wyze on RUclips gives the automated response to comments.
That's why I didn't say the technology I said it was the hardware they chose. Even a modern microprocessor that is spec'd down for something like this does not have the same processing power as an Original Xbox. I actually worked on a project at my previous job for a camera using the same board as the wyze folks use, and I know that our team tried to squeeze every ounce out of it. But they had to sacrifice some things like local streaming.
Good review, watching as I am just setting up my first v3, have had four Wyze v2's for years. Question: at 11:13, you say you'd like to have the option to "record the whole event to the onboard SD card." I have not used Cam Plus, so I only see the 12-second preview online, but the onboard SD cards in my v2 cams records as long as there is movement, and then no cool off period, will record all movement again right away. Is this not how it works on v3? I suppose I'll find out before you would get a chance to respond, but maybe you misspoke there
You can set the camera to either record just events (motion / sound) to to the SD card. Or you can set it to continuously record to the SD. Neither requires cam plus. I believe you can only retrieve this footage if you are connected to the same wifi network as your camera.
Doesl this cam have a port that would allow me to setup a local drive to it or no? Relying on "cloud-only" content for footage larger than say 256GB is a decent short-term solution, not so much for worry-free 30-60day storage. Thanks for the review!
@@ThisSmartHouse yeah i just found out its to set up magnetically. I screwed mine to the wall lol. Also little thing to know it supports 512gb sd cards
Yes. That picture in the thumbnail of the video is my camera mounted to the outside of my house using the ring mount. Makes it super convenient to set it up someplace quickly. I think they're going to start natively supporting the larger SD cards, but I've had numerous you were say that they have used up to 256 gigs in these cameras.
Will this work with out having wifi. We dont have internet but need camera for our front door packages been leaving, we been having children stealing. I didn't have issue tell this las time
Well, if you had an SD card in it and it was configured, then I would assume you could make it work. But a few things: 1. You have to set it up with wifi to get it connected to the app. 2. You would need to be on wifi to set up the SD card and all day recording. 3. You would need to pull the Sd card to get the video data. 4. I haven't tested this so I would try it before you rely on it.
Thank you. You are right, I didn't mention the max SD card size. I just looked it up and it sounds like officially it is 32gb. But it sounds like others have gotten 64gb to work by formatting it with a particular app. See: forums.wyzecam.com/t/wyzecam-v3-larger-than-32gb-micro-sd-card/145362/5
Question on this camera... I just sent back the wireless outdoor camera because the app didn't have the view playback button on live view even after calling support the view play back isn't available ... The v2 with sd card has it... Does this v3 camera have view playback button at the bottom of live feed?
@@ThisSmartHouse Hi there. Might I mention or request that small but relevant feature of this camera is the choice of color of black. I just bought the black version of the V3. The stealth cover at night is important. I see that they also sell sheaths or rubber covers in black for these too which I find funny.

I am renting a house and want to install 2-3 cameras, outside/garage, keeping costs down. 1.What is your recommendation on brand/bundle? 2. Same recommendation if i want to limit holes for power? Thanks
id be interested in hearing you speak towards using them as a baby monitor
I have used the V2 and v3 for all of my kids growing up. The v3 works great as a monitor. You can have it send you notifications if there is to much noise (crying). We used a traditional audio monitor to listen 24/7 and then jumped on to the camera to see what was going on.
I wish they have the pan/ or rotating on it.
You can get the pan v2 by Wyze but it is indoor only.
Great informative video!
Glad it helped!
Oh can the adapter and cam run on 220 Volts ?? Thank you
Yes. The camera itself runs on 5 volts provided by the USB power block. But the included power block can do up to 240 volts.
THANKS AGAIN Sir! Im considering upgrading and this review helped a lot!
So glad it helped!
Is it possible to live stream on U tube?
can you watch your live view on your PC? It seems no one mentions this in any review. If yes, how good is it? I have Zmodo and they are horrendous on PC
Now if i have a steady 12v supplly, say in my RV or work truck.... would this still work in a vehicle? with the SD card?
It would work you would just need a 12v to 5v converter (a cell phone charger). Are you running off the battery or is it externally powered (alternator or generator). My main concern would be running the battery on the vehicle down.
Do you need to use the Wyze SE card or any SD card?
Any SD card. They are all the same.
Great video! Skeptical about outdoor use. The holes at the back Could flood with water and leak into the device overtime.
The v3 is pretty well sealed up. The power comes in via that pig tail. I soaked it in my test and had no issues.
Mount under an eave then, or awning.
This is what I did with my v2. But the v3 I have attached right to the side of the house.
I have a Wyze 3. My recordings etc appear on my phone up side down. How do i correct this
Go to camera settings (the gear wheel when looking at the camera), Advanced Settings, Rotate 180°>
How does it stand in the cold?
I haven't had my v3 outside in the cold but my v2 has been out for two winters without an issue. So I would assume the v3 would do just as well, as long as you aren't getting crazy cold.
Do you really need the outdoor adapter? Or can you just put some waterproof silicone at the power connections to ensure no moisture gets in?
@@ThisSmartHouse also, any major flaws that would tell you “don’t waste your money” discovered since you bought them?
If you're going to hardwire a V3 then I think it's a great camera and there's not much flaws I found.
@@ThisSmartHouse has the wifi connection been reliable? I’ve seen that as the biggest flaw in the Amazon reviews? and Thanks for helping me out I really appreciate it
THANKS For this detailed review very helpful. My question, can 2 or more Wyze cam run on the App? Just like the Ring ? Thank you.
Yes of course. I am not sure the upper limit but I have 12 or more devices.
GREAT !!
Mine are on house from when I bought house I'm trying to get down from house now trying to take hood off so I can get set up,like my doorbell mine are pretty wired by officer that use to own all mine are v3
Can I set this up so that it alerts only at a certain time during the night?
I just checked and didn't see an option to limit notification times. You might be able to limit the notification times in your operating system. Are you on Android or iOS?
Great info! I am looking for a decent surveillance camera to manage remotely, it will be for an Airbnb and I want to make sure I understand which activities I must do on site, as I cannot travel often over there, and understand what activities I can do remotely. Note, I do not have internet yet on this place. Thank you!!
You are welcome! Internet is required but you can record to a SD card if needed.
How does this compare to the Blink Outdoor
Unfortunatly, I don't have any Blink cameras (or have they offered to send me any). But I do have Ring cameras. They are different than the ring as you do get some local recording to the SD card. What are your likes / dislikes about the Blinks?
I'd to know how to provide power to it if I set it up outdoor, from the AC outlet? People can easily unplug it, right?
You can either use a long USB micro cord and place it up high somewhere or use a PoE adapter (I have a video on how to use them: ruclips.net/video/ODZnJag8BNs/видео.html). Just put it up high enough so no one can reach the camera and be smart about how you route it to keep the wire hidden.
Or you can get the Outdoor Camera v2 and a solar panel. Same camera, but with a battery on board and build to run like that. Review coming soon....
@@ThisSmartHouse many thanks!
Great video. You save me time and money
Great review thanks man!
Thanks for watching!
What size sd card do you need for it?
It depends on how long you want to record. I would say 32 gb is a good start.
@@ThisSmartHouse Solid review! Also respect for you commenting back to your viewers/ subscribers. What’s the max SD card that it can use?
Thank you! I try to answer everyone I can. Officially the maximum size is 32 gb. But I've read on the forms as long as it's formatted and FAT32 you can go any size you want.
@@ThisSmartHouse appreciate that 💪🏽 Finna hit you W/ another sub!
Love it! Thanks!
So this can go inside my window facing outside? Does it have night vision for the yard
In this case, the IR night vision won't work. As you will "blind" the camera by having the IR reflect back into the camera.
Could you test this camera with a portable battery pack?
I have this on my list to do a short about how long it lasts on a battery pack (batter bank).
@@ThisSmartHouse i just tested it with a battery pack of 8,000 mAh capacity & I was able to get 5 hours on it. I didnt max out the battery but for me 5 hours was good enough lol just wanted to share (:
I am going to do a short about this here soon. Just waiting for a USB multi meter to arrive.
Hi
.Forgive my ignorance for I'm very new to this.Which one would you recommend to occasionally view a room from your cellphone while away from home.Pretty simple requirement.Have a basement full of collectables and concerned about flooding, though unlikely.Just for peace of mind...would there still be a monthly charge after the trial period? Thanks Pat
Hi pat,
The v3 Wyze camera would work great for this. If you need to cover a wide angle then the Pan works well, it can pan and tilt.
Yo link has a flood monitor that you could add to this camera too
If I install a SD card for 24 7 recording, do I still get motion detection notifications and can I access the videos from my phone?
Can I select continuous live view from my phone?
Thank you so much for your time!
Yes on everything! The SD card just extends the recording time. So instead of just getting motion recordings you get 24/7 recording.
There is an option to flip the video 180 degrees in the advanced settings (I think).
dont you think someone will cut the wire the way you have it buy the garage??
No, because they would get caught on the camera first before they got to the camera. Plus that was just a temporary installation location. I would recommend mounting it higher up and routing the cable internally via your attic.
@@ThisSmartHouse ya higher up because it would be east to walk up with a big jacket over them and just put a towel over it.
Do I need to pay any membership to used it
No they have a free tier for the basic services. They just changed their pricing structure and it's now called cam plus lite. You have the option to pay but it is not required.
nice video. what do you mean by no onboard / free person detection?
Some cameras can use on-board programming to detect a person instead of just movement. Or they have a free cloud service that can ID a person instead of say a moving bush.
@@ThisSmartHouse so this camera only does people?
If you don't have a paid cloud service, the only way to view the footage is to remove the SD card?
Nope. You can access it via the app. But the footage is on the sd card.
Does this have to be plugged in . I would like to use outside , but I dont know anything about running elec wires ???
Where’s the best place to buy this? Is Amazon ok
What country are you in? If US, then Amazon, Home Depot, etc. Be aware that the warranty doesn't extend outside of the US.
Does it plug into an electrical outlet.
Yes. It is powered over USB.
Does an electrician need to set up for it to go outside?
Not at all, if you have an outdoor plug and can protect the plug when something is plugged in (with one of those outdoor rated covers) then you just need to plug in and hang up the camera.
compartible wirh solar pannels??
Nope, that would be the Wyze Outdoor series of camera.
Do you have to buy a base station for these? And if do are they costly? Thx
No these connect directly to your home wifi. The outdoor cam has a base station.
@@ThisSmartHouse Thank you, I just ordered one and will try it plugged in.
@@johndehart1107 How is the solar thing going?
I Decided against using the solar. But I did purchase from Amazon a 25' extension for my V3. The product was Benair 25' power extention cable.
@@johndehart1107 Appreciate that 💪🏽
Can the onboard saved video be replayed through the app or does the sd card have to be moved and played elsewhere? (Sorry if I missed it.)
Yes, if you have an SD card in it you can go to play back and it will load off of the camera.
can i connect it to synology nas?
It used to be you could grab the RTSP firmware but they recently pulled that. The cameras only really work with their software.
@@ThisSmartHouse i found out that it still works with the beta firmware, jus need to download from a third party
could it be posssible to control my thermostate and door lock with the camera app, as well.
Only if they are wyze products. You can do some limited integration with home assistant and then integrate your other items there.
Helpful. Thank you! :-)
You're welcome!
Onvif compatibility?
Not supported. RTSP was an extra firmware but the dropped support for it.
Thank you for the great information. Can the camera be rotated/panned/tilted from the app?
This camera (the v3) does not move (you can digitally zoom in). If you want to have a moving camera look into the Pan v2.
Doesl this cam have a port that would allow me to setup a local drive to it or no? Relying on "cloud-only" content for footage larger than say 256GB is a decent short-term solution, not so much for worry-free 30-60day storage. Thanks for the review!
You can either record to the SD card or use the RSTP firmware for local only streaming.
I came here to find out what to do with the ring mount. Well dang.
The ring mount? You mean the little metal disc that comes in the box?
Hello! Gr8 review, i might have missed it. But did you say if there is a max size on the sd card?
@@ThisSmartHouse Thanks! Keep the Good works Up! 😁
I was able to use a 64GB, bought the V3 Today & the 64 Works
I love your videos, thank you.
Q: do you know how to get them to work in home assistant?
I did a video a few months ago on the Wyze Bridge. It is an add on you can install in Home Assistant that will let you bring your streams in.
Question on this camera... I just sent back the wireless outdoor camera because the app didn't have the view playback button on live view even after calling support the view play back isn't available ... The v2 with sd card has it... Does this v3 camera have view playback button at the bottom of live feed?
battery powered?
Nope. That is the Wyze Outdoor V2. I am actually working on that review.
@@ThisSmartHouse Hi there. Might I mention or request that small but relevant feature of this camera is the choice of color of black. I just bought the black version of the V3. The stealth cover at night is important. I see that they also sell sheaths or rubber covers in black for these too which I find funny.
does it has ONVIF ?
No. Just RTSP. If you install the special software.
@@ThisSmartHouse oke i would like to use my base station with HD that supports all cameras with ONVIF.. any idea what would be good to use ?
I have these all around my house . In and out.
