  • 023 So excited to return. Checking in on our fruit trees that we planted in the winter and find out they are blooming! So exciting...! We also get to work in the garden with a little help (supervision) from Bernice.
    Thanks again for watching,
    Michael and April
    Description of Us:
We are a couple of American Francophiles who have come to truly appreciate so many things about French culture. We love the food, wine, art, and history of France, but especially the people we have met along the way. Join us as we make our dream of living in France a reality. Follow us as we explore the French living and a new life there with our beloved dog, Bernice. We enjoy learning about stone house renovation, wine, cooking, brocante shopping, and the French community we are now a part of.

Incredible, your fruit trees are in flower, the fruits will soon come. Bernice must be enjoying walking peacefully in this beautiful place. Greetings from Brazil.❤

Yes, Spring is my favorite time of year! Everything turns bright green, little flowers come up, trees start sprouting, things come alive.

Glad to see the fruit trees looking good.
Dandelion and Burdock cordial. Concentrated and you put it with water. Absolutely delicious 😋
I remember the french cordial was sold in metal bottles and was far superior to the cheap stuff I used to have as a kid. Cordial is the posh name for squash we had 😊

Great to see your fruit trees have thrived since you planted them in the winter. Witnessing them bloom must be gratifying. Seeing Bernice makes me miss my gardening helpers.

Fun facts : Dandelion has 2 names in French :
"Dent-de-lion" which means Lion Fang because of the leaves shape. I guess the English word comes from the French word ?
"Pissenlit" which literally means "Pee in Bed" because of its diuretic properties when used in an herbal tea.
You can eat the leaves after a good wash. They are used in the traditional "Salade de pissenlit" with vinaigrette sauce, lardons (bacon ?) and boiled eggs.

Yeah, we probably need to buy some remote microphones. I will try and increase the volume of our voices in future videos... Thanks for the feedback.

Dandelion greens are packed with nutrients, but calcium and iron are the most prominent. Raw dandelion greens contain 10% of the DV for each mineral, whereas cooked dandelion greens contain between 11% and 15% of the DV. Calcium aids in the development of healthy teeth and bones and the neurological system. There is dandelion wine too. 🙂

How often does the grass need to be mowed?
Also, I believe you should cull the first 2-3 years worth of fruit from your figs & trees. That will encourage them to put more energy into growth rather than fruit production. Later, you'll have more fruit from more robust trees.

In the spring and summer it's about once every two weeks. In the fall it's only been once a month. In the winter, about once every three months. Good idea regarding the fruit trees. Thanks!

@@FrenchStoneHouseLife Thanks. I was thinking about whether it's necessary for those periods where you're not there to have someone else mow a couple of times until you return.

    • @FrenchStoneHouseLife
      @FrenchStoneHouseLife  10 дней назад

Yes, we have someone who mows when we are no there. It's a guy that our neighbor also uses.
