@@thirstfortruth8904 I will agree with you in your assessment while at the same time will extend some grace here and this is why. I had no idea who this man was and I did find his opening ok because it gave me some solid background on this man which made me stay and listen. 🙂
Most of the earliest critics of Christianity simply dismissed it for being a Jewish cult. However, one critic in particular named Celsus penned a scathing polemic against Christianity in the 2nd century and he went after practically every doctrine that Christians espoused and did so with mockery and contempt. That being said, nowhere in his polemic did he ever question the historicity of Jesus. To repeat: a 2nd century critic of Christianity did not question the historicity of Jesus. And so anyone who thinks Mythicism is a serious historical hypothesis has to contend with the fact that Celsus didn't debunk the historicity of Jesus when he was in a prime position to do so. If Celsus lacked the means and methods to do so, how has the passage of time improved modern day efforts?
Gordon Tubbs, you're not quite correct. We have nothing penned by the Greek Celsus (critic of Christianity), because the early Church destroyed his writings. We only know of his critique of christianity via the early Church father, Origien of Alexandria (in the third centiry AD), who apparently quoted arguments from Celsus to refute them. We don't know how complete the quotations from Celsus by Origen are, or what Origen may have omitted that he found too embarrassing to address. But even if Orgien did quote correctly and compehensively from Celsus, your argument is still lame, because the Gods that the Greeks and other ancient peoples worshipped were NOT HSITORICAL EITHER (e.g. Zeus, Apollo, Aphrodite) , yet Greeks (including Celsus) sitll believed in them. So whether or not a God lived and died on earth was not important for their faith. If Celsus had mocked Christians for believing in a non-historical Jesus, then the Christian apologist, Origen, could have mocked and disarmed him right there for double-standards! Furthermore, Celsus was born about two centures after Jesus and in Greece, so he may not have had evidence to refute a historical Jesus, especially bearing in mind the destruction of Jerusalem (and most records there) by the Romans in about 70 AD.
@@psandbergnz There's no evidence to support the claim that the Church destroyed the writings of Celsus, only that (as you said) he may or may not have been quoted in full, which is a big difference. The person of Jesus Christ seemingly avoided getting debunked, both as a historical figure and theological figure, from the earliest days of the Christian movement, when the apostles and disciples faced immense persecution. If Mythicism had ANY merit whatsoever, we would have every reason to see early Jewish critics pen arguments against Jesus on those grounds, and the fact that we don't is very curious. The burden of proof Mythicists have to carry is to explain why there is an absence of Mythicist objections to Christianity in the 1st century (this includes appealing to a conspiracy that Christians destroyed all polemic), and to provide evidence to support whatever theory that explanation.
@@psandbergnz the church never had to destroy the works of celsus for us not to have them. Time destroys records just fine without the help. Preservation is a byproduct of luck, copying and people keeping/cherishing them. Unless there's record of their destruction then there's no evidence anyone destroyed them. Destruction is normal, preservation is exceptional.
Mike, I appreciate you so much! I am a 70 year old disciple of Jesus still learning how to understand Scripture and follow my Savior. Your humble, transparent, knowledgeable spirit speaks to my heart.
We don't HAVE the works of Celsus. Ironically we only have the "church approved" criticism of Celsus, written by Origen. Valentinian III banned Celsus' works in 448. The church also banned the Talmud (!!!) for a period of time for the same reason: it cast doubt on the approved non-"heretical" writings. They persecuted people in possession of banned books. THAT'S WHY we don't have the vast majority of writings denying the claims of "Matthew" and the other anonymous Gospel writers. FYI, the Church kept an "Index Librorum Prohibitorum" which officially kept many books banned until 1966 when Pope Paul VI discontinued the list. Galileo's works was on this list for hundreds of years. Fortunately, unlike with the works of Calsus, they couldn't burn all of Galileo's books!
@@EzerEben “They persecuted people in possession of banned books” “We don’t have the vast majority of writings” Exactly!! And you just unwittingly admitted that we don’t have evidence that these texts were even reliable. Sorry but this is question begging of the highest degree!! Ho the irony!! I’m just not convinced by conspiracy theories and obvious confirmation bias, not to mention imaginary invisible texts containing the objective truth. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence!! What can be claimed without evidence can be dismissed without evidence!! Because speculation, confirmation bias, question begging and imaginary books and imaginary invisible texts from antiquity aren’t reliable evidence. This is beyond question begging because even if there was a substantive amount of books and libraries filled from floor to ceiling with texts written by the Roman propaganda machine or any ancient propaganda machine containing negative information claiming Jesus didn’t exist it’s a non sequitur as it does not logically follow that it’s true. It’s common knowledge that conquerers rewrite history and put themselves on a moral pedestal!! Equally, even if it was true that the whole of the Roman Empire and its conquered nations were led to believe that Jesus wasn’t an historical character it’s an appeal to popularity fallacy as well as a non sequitur as it does not logically follow that this makes it true. The atheists Stalin and Hitlers propaganda machine demonstrated that you could easily mislead millions of fairly well educated “literate” people using basic propaganda tools such as rhetoric, appeals to emotion, appeals to outrage, “question begging” and style over substance/facts to confirm people’s attrition biases. It’s common knowledge that militant atheism is rife with this kind of propaganda and still is today!! All you have to do is browse any antI religious/militant atheist RUclips post for evidence. There’s an online war being raged and this kind of intellectual blood sports is highly addictive particularly for young people. Any of this ring any bells ?? Evidence and citations please that these invisible texts (propaganda) are something more substantive than propaganda and scapegoating!! I’ll wait!! Because as I’ve pointed out already, what can be claimed without evidence can be dismissed without evidence and question begging and anti Christian propaganda isn’t evidence!! We’ve seen it all before and nothing has changed because the demonising and dehumanising of Christians remains the same. Which is why one hundred thousand Christians currently still die every year due to religious persecution particularly in the Congo. Doesn’t that ring any alarm bells!! ?? The evidence that we actually have (the actually real evidence) regarding Emperor Nero (not imaginary evidence). The real evidence clearly demonstrates that people were purposely given a very negative impression of Christians and Christians were scapegoated for some pretty major incidents and catastrophes. We already have evidence that there was nasty and depraved lies and propaganda spread across the Roman Empire about Christians regarding the burning of Rome etc that lead to many horrific atrocities committed against Christian men, women and children. And nothing has changed which is why this very year one hundred thousand Christians will have been murdered due to religious persecution and propaganda. So why would these imaginary anti Christian texts (ancient propaganda) be any different. The irony is that if they existed at all it’s question begging of the highest degree to assume that they would be reliable and unbiased critiques given the evidence of atrocities already committed against Christians due to faulty information and Roman propaganda. Furthermore, by your same standard of witness reliability regarding Biblical witnesses why should we value and trust imaginary secular witnesses and imaginary non Christians who may or may not have written that Jesus wasn’t an historical character when we already know that the torch of propaganda had already been lit by Nero prejudicing the whole of the Roman Empire including the numerous conquered nations around the whole world against Christianity. Even if there was reliable evidence that Christians got rid of anti Christian propaganda it’s not that controversial that Christians would have been keen to destroy lies and dangerous propaganda to protect their children, families and loved ones given the history of torture and murder of Christians. Emperor Nero was very much aware of the power of propaganda and the damage it can cause not to mention the advantages it can bring. There may well be some texts buried in the annals of time claiming Jesus was an hoax but it’s an enormous stretch of the imagination and is question begging of the highest degree to assume this means that what was written is gospel truth. Just because we suddenly found a stash of Nazi propaganda leaflets claiming that the Battle of Britain didn’t occur and that Hitler was an egalitarian worshipper of a Jewish messiah it does not make it true. Equally, if we found very reliable evidence that England had responded by destroying as much Nazi propaganda as they could lay their hands on it does not logically follow that the Nazis propaganda was true, that is it does not logically follow that the Battle of Britain was an hoax and that Hitler was an egalitarian follower of a Jewish messiah!! Sorry but appeals to ignorance, confirming bias and question begging aren’t evidence.? Including any (Appeals to Hypocrisy Fallacies) you will predictably respond with. Solid evidence and citations please not question begging!! I’ll wait!! I rest my case!! Why should we believe anything written by those with a obvious bias against Christians and an history of brutality. It’s pretty clear what the early Romans and what all the enemies of Christianity throughout history didn’t believed because…. “What Hitler did not believe and what Stalin did not believe and what Mao did not believe and what the SS did not believe and what the Gestapo did not believe and what the NKVD did not believe and what the commissars, functionaries, swaggering executioners, Nazi doctors, Communist Party theoreticians, intellectuals, Brown Shirts, Black Shirts, gauleiters, and a thousand party hacks did not believe was that God was watching what they were doing. And as far as we can tell, very few of those carrying out the horrors of the twentieth century worried overmuch that God was watching what they were doing either. That is, after all, the meaning of a secular society.” (D.B.). Hitlers right hand man Joseph Goebbals wrote in his private diaries in 1941 that though Hitler was "a fierce opponent" of the Vatican and Christianity, "he forbids me to leave the church. For tactical reasons” (Joseph Goebbels). This kind of evidence please!! I’ll wait!! I rest my case!!

Me: "Cool, thanks."
Saved through trusting in Christ. Trust His finished work on the Cross and His resurrection, as well as His deity and your sin, whoch this is the only way to be saved. Failing to do so means you have chosen to stay in your sin whenever He was the gift sent from God the Father as a free gift to access a relationship with Him. He’s not just a Savior, but He is the Grace (meaning unmerited favor) of God to save a sinner from themself, and make them a son/daughter of God through how much they are respected and loved via the Cross. Read Romans 1-8 to understand the teaching of Justification, which is the Gospel of Grace, which is Christianity’s ultimate teaching which separates it from the major religions of the world.

I have come to the conclusion that Jesus is a perceived character in OT scripture. Mark the first written Gospel is a parable set on Earth that got mistaken as history. Paul's Jesus is God's firstborn Archangel the first of his creation that put on flesh (made from Davidic sperm), and was crucified by Satan in the third heaven. I'm working on the textual evidence showing this. One thing for sure is that "Jesus certainly existed" is a lie.
@Daniel U I own both books. As Strobel forgets that this could all just be legend (Liar, lunatic, Lord... or Legend). How do you know that Jesus actually rose from the dead? What lead you to this conclusion?

Jesus is a descendant of David, and what's ironic is that this is stated in rev 22:16, the very verse you quote next. Finally, Jesus never says that he is Satan. This is ridiculous. Jesus says he is the bright and morning star. A morning star is one of the brightest stars in the sky, brighter than the rest. Jesus is described as the BRIGHT and morning star because he is set apart from the rest. Satan is called a morning star, because he was set apart from other angels. That's where the similarities end. It is like how Jesus is called the lion of the tribe of Judah because he is the king, royal and majestic etc... Not to mention that Satan tempts Jesus in the wilderness, so obviously isn't the same person. That Jesus repeatedly says he is the son of God, God incarnate. That Jesus drive out demons, and a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. That the demons themselves stated that Jesus was God etc... So many ways to disprove your false claims.

@Dexter O'Shields I'll never understand how atheists seem unable to think through a series of of if then statements honestly. If God exists and he's the God of the bible then there's no reason he couldn't raise Jesus from the dead. It's a simple if then. If God isn't real, then yes, of course, some other explanation for the claims must be true, but if it's not impossible, and if it fits the data available about people's behavior and claims, then there's no reason it couldn't be true other than you saying it isn't. Your words aren't magic, you saying it isn't doesn't create magical boundaries on reality that prevent things from happening.

I do not believe there are "inaccuracies" in the scriptures, nor do I believe that the gospels, or any other part of the Bible, were produced by men's imagination, or exaggerated by men. But rather, as Paul states very clearly, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit the words of the Bible were written. The Holy Spirit doesn't make mistakes. He was, and is, fully able to chose those who wouldn't put words in His mouth. J. Warner Wallace often says, if four eyewitnesses give me four exactly similar accounts of an incident they claim to have witnessed, I know they are lying. In fact the Bible is so accurate, it is too truthful for most people. They understand it with the intellect and not by the spirit. That is the born-again spirit where the Holy Spirit dwells within. Don't expect any accolades from intellectuals when it comes to claiming that the Bible is the inerrant word of God. That's where you must carry the cross of Christ, usually resulting in ridicule and rejection. Yet, if we refuse his cross, we are not worthy of him.

One reason people grasp ahold of zeitgeist is because they use conspiracy theories in with this clip and if the conspiracy theories might have validity, then the part on Christ must be so. So sad people cannot see through this! Zeitgeist by the way mean spirit of the age....
That film shook me for a brief moment it is a very clever deception but at the end of the day it compelled me to search even harder and ultimately my faith is even stronger because of it. I feel sorry for all those it will deceive
@Godless Engineer, I don't if he will get this, but I believe he is saying, at timestamp 18:44, that no one mentioned Tacitus about the persecution of the Christians until the 4th century. While my answer does not contain an exhaustive list of sources, I believe it is because this is the first time a history of the Church is compiled by Eusiebius of Cesarea. Before then, no one had need to reference him at all.
In one of my religious study classes in college the professor posed the question of whether or not there being hardly any evidence of Jesus outside of the Gospels is harmful to the identity of Christianity. I said no, but I was the only one.
So, basically, outside of the 4 best, most detailed accounts of Jesus' life and ministry, there is comparatively less (I wouldn't say hardly any) evidence? I'm pretty sure if you discount all the best evidence for any historical event/person, the same thing would happen. The canonical gospels are in the Bible because they were considered reliable accounts, not the other way around. I hope the professor explained that to the rest of the class. That would be a teaching moment in logic and evaluating evidence.
@@derekallen4568 how about Tacitus? The greatest Roman historian who was repeatedly mentioned in the very video you are commenting on? Also, saying that you can't trust someone who believed what they were writing about us so fallacious and ridiculous. By this logic i should discount virtually every scientific paper ever written about evolution, because they were written by people who believed in evolution. No historian takes your stance. The only thing a historian would do would apply a slightly higher level of skepticism when dealing with potentially biased sources.
It is VITALLY important that we DO investigate claims of historians that might have differing views, to suggest “not entertaining” a question or theory to be reasonable is insanity. There are a LOT of historical claims made today, taught in schools as religious dogma, NOT ALLOWED to be questioned, even with scientific evidence that no ONE should make that claim. I am a believer, born again for 3 years, and I actually came to faith realizing some things we were told we were not allowed to entertain ACTUALLY have merit to the point of outright lies. When we start silencing people for “wrong-think” we are NOT being Christian bc I’m sure philosophers in the first century thought entertaining a risen Christ was preposterous. No, we listen and examine the evidence. The truth NEVER fears investigation. As a Christian I am not afraid of ppl questioning the existence of Jesus, let’s just weigh the evidence and just make sure we check us and the other side for integrity. You’ll NEVER find more intellectually honest ppl than WWII historians who substantiate with mounds of evidence claims that what the victors have printed in our textbooks is often untrue. Or to suggest that “flat-earthers” are insane ergo we don’t even ask ourselves what evidence are they using to come to their conclusions? No one wants to be a flat-earther or a “-denier” of ANY kind bc it’s hard. They are beaten, put in prison, threatened, lose their ability to make a living, etc. so it is VERY dangerous to suggest someone’s idea has NO MERIT just bc we’ve been conditioned to think that way about a specific topic. When we do that we are making some other person our ultimate authority outside God.
I am sorry, but the title of the video is dishonest. Mike Licona is not a historian by profession, but a theologian, as you yourself say in the video. Licona has no historical publications on his CV, he has a doctorate in New Testament studies, a master’s in religious studies, and a bachelor’s in music. None of these programmes include training in proper historical methodology. You know real historians have actual history degrees, right? You know they spend nine years of their life, at minimum, being professionally drilled in how to properly critique all kinds of source material and check their and others’ biases while doing so? Licona is a theologian doing theology dressed up as historical studies - a strange, but common branch of theology, especially among biblical literalists. I appreciate your videos, Mike, but if we don't start from a position of honesty, how are we to convince others of the truths of Christianity?
The atheist historian Robin Lane Fox, author of the books, 'Pagans and Chrstians' and 'The Unauthorised Version' firmly stated that Jesus was a historical figure, even while doubting much of the reliability of the synoptic gospels ( less so John's gospel which he believes was indeed written by him).
Thank you! This this is a complete repudiation of the historical denial of Jesus. And Paul is likely the most credible source concerning Christ! He had been a Pharisee, and knew James!!
Nonbelievers have a hard enough time explaining the rise of Christianity witout an empty tomb. So rather than deal with the near impossible problem of explaining away the testimony of multiple eyewitnesses who would later be killed for their faith, they go full on tinfoil hat mode.
Great discussion - my only knitpick is that I wouldn't consider Pilate an enemy of Jesus in the sense that he wanted Jesus to die. We expressly know that the *last* thing he wanted to do was execute him. Instead of glorying in the destruction of the Messiah, he tried to have him released, and ultimately washed his hands of the final verdict. Guilty of violence against the jews and of scourging Jesus, yes, but I don't see evidence in the gospels that Pilate with a mustache twirling supervillain with devil horns, like a lot of people seem to see him as. In fact I pity him, as he was in an impossible situation, God needed Jesus crucified, and nothing Pilate could do would stop it. In fact, he scourged Jesus hoping it would be enough for the Jewish leaders. Bad idea, but his intentions are worth noting. And finally, not long after, Pilate was ultimately forced by Tiberius to kill himself. Nothing but pity for him.
@@EHonda-ds6ve Maybe a late answer, but it was only for the context, Jesus said "The father is greater than I" when he was on the earth as a man. And the "Why do you call me good? Only God is good" he asked a jew who didn't know that Jesus was God. It's not that Jesus denied his divinity, only that Jesus asked a man why he called Jesus good when the man thought him only as a man.
What’s good about it? Because a historian Josephus mentions Jesus means the religion is true? Well then many other historians mention all kinds of religions. So that’s evidence they are true also?
@The Called 333 the cross isn't an idol lol. No Christian worships the cross. We worship the one who took the cross. It would help if you a tally knew what an idol is before accusing someone of worshipping idols.
@The Called 333 1) "I gave you scripture...deny it all you want" - so at which point in my reply did I deny scripture? the scriptures you quoted say not to worship idols, at which point did I say people should worship idols? learn to read my comments before replying. 2) the cross doesn't represent God. where in the world did you get that idea from? the cross represents the crucifixion. 3) no Christian worships the cross. it is not an idol. it does not represent God. when have you ever seen a Christian praying "dear cross..."? when have you ever heard a Christian saying "I worship you cross"? the fact that you don't even know what the cross represents is rather embarrassing if you are calling yourself a Christian. and the fact that you don't know what an idol is, is also rather embarrassing. EDIT: oh and also, just so you know, Satan is called the accuser of the brethren, and Jesus said that calling your fellow Christian a fool is enough to put you in danger of the fires of hell. so why are you imitating Satan by instantly jumping to accusations as the very first thing you say? and why are you calling me names and insulting me for no reason whatsoever? stop acting like Satan, it isn't a good look.
@The Called 333 the fact that you have no intellectual or substantive response of any kind demonstrates to anyone reading this conversation how fallacious your position is. Simply stating that something is an idol without any justification is laughable. I have already explained how it isn't an idol. Believe what you want, but the truth is most definitely not on your side
@WingsOfTruth don't bother engaging with this guy. He has no intellectual substance of any kind. All he does is falsely accuse people whilst pretending to be righteous. Ironically he then calls other people pharisees.
@WingsOfTruth woah man what just happened in here. I simply use the cross in order to make clear in comment sections that people see I'm christian.. I literaly use it so that atheists and non christians can see who they speaking with... In a way I try and honour God in that way.
Hey mike , love your videos :) just wanna ask you what your thoughts are on cbd use , especially cbd flower ..it doesn’t cloud my brain and I feel like it’s better then other stuff . Maybe you can speak about this during ur Q&A sometime I’d really appreciate it . Thanks @mikewinger
I know this question is for Mike Winger, but I thought I’d tackle the question to see if what I say can help, so that you get an answer sooner. The Bible says to stay sober minded (1 Peter 5:8), do not give into drunkenness (Ephesians 5:18), and to treat our bodies as temples unto the Lord (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). As long as you aren’t getting high/intoxicated it seems to be fine to take Cbd. Also, as long as it doesn’t cause harmful effects to you it is also fine. Just make sure it is a pure sample of Cbd, so that you do not harm the temple, that is your body. If you take any medications, research what Cbd would do to your body if the medicines interacted (consumed while you are taking the other.) I hope this helps.

I would recommend bringing Dr. Carrier on the show to debate Mike. Dr. Ehrman has already ran away from Dr. Carrier. Dr. Carrier does a good job at dismantling the little evidence on the historicity of Jesus. I don't know why podcasters allow one-sided views like this.
At least those who deny Jesus can not use the excuse that they didn't know, or that no one told them. No one forces them to believe. They are free to accept or reject. No one is forced into heaven. They are free to go their own way instead. Freedom of choice to accept Jesus as Saviour or reject Him. It is sad though then they then turn to mocking those who believe. I suppose the disbelievers could be mocked as well but that achieves nothing but going to the same level. Being ridiculed for believing doesn't particularly bother me. Its only till I die. I will have other more important things to see and attend to then. If it is all a fairy tale, then its all over with death and everyone just becomes dust and that's it. Nothing is lost or gained by anyone. As the unbelievers have already checked out what happens after death and have established that there is no God and heaven doesn't exist, they feel they are ok. They already have the confirmation of no God. If on the other hand and I am right as the Bible says, I have everything to gain as a believer. I do lose eternal death, but I can live without that. Immortal Life. Now for the unbeliever...……….
The thing that irks me most about these mythers is their latent hypocrisy. If most of them were skeptical about the existence of all ancient personalities at least then they'd be consistent (foolish yes but consistent.) Yet these same mythers will still believe Alexander (first biography written 400 years out) lived or Muhammad (first official biography 300 years from his death) were real people. The fact that the gold standard of Roman historians mentions a man he considered a Judean peasant cult leader in the far corner of the Empire when he's used to writing about generals and emperors what more do you want?
Devon, Zeitgeist does not literally say, in the Bible one reads "December 25th" as the day of crucifixion. Zeitgeist does say "this is the sun" and then argues that Jesus is a personification of the Sun. Therefore, one should not be looking for a literal "December 25th" in the Bible. In contrast, one should be looking allegory, symbolism, and numerology to detect the Winter Solstice or Decebermer 25th. As a result, the symbolic and allegorical answer to your question, "where does is say Dec 25th", is Matthew 24:36. Matthew 24:36 "But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven nor the Son, but only the Father" (Matt 24:36 NIV). Do you see how this passage is tempting one to find the date and the hour? The numbers 24:36 allow one to figure out not only Dec 25th but also the exact year of this Second Coming. In this case the Son of Man or Aquarius. 2 + 4 = 6 3 + 6 = 9 Now we are working with the number 69 12 + 25 + 20 + 12 = 69 The exact date of the second coming, aka astrological allegorical second coming, which is the story in the stars, is December 25, 2012. However, the chapter and verse number in the bible were added in 1550ish and the Gregorian Calendar was 1580ish. Thus, the exact date in our, Gregorian Calendar is December 21st, 2012. Dec. 21st, 2012 was a Friday. Therefore, the Sun died on Friday and Resurrected 3 days later on Sunday. If you are interested in seeing the Crucifixion explained as an allegory on 12-21-2012 then watch "Astrotheology Fact or Fiction" link below. ruclips.net/video/Hzk45GH-T84/видео.html In that video, the flood story is explained as an astrological allegory using the astronomy of 12-21-2012. So, it matches Matt 24:37 also. Matt 24:37 "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man" (Matt 24:37 NIV). The Winter Solstice of 2012 is the most famous Winter Solstice as nearly all ancient cultures are looking at this specific date. Nearly all ancient cultures have a flood story. Hmm? Try looking at the astronomy of 2012 at 6 a.m. and see how the Milky Way is flooding the horizon in all directions. Look for Gemini (twins = two of everything) floating in the Milky Way like an Ark. Next to Gemini is Orion. Orion is the astrological cross. The Winter Triangle (Skull Hill) is attached to Orion, this makes a crucifixion on Skull Hill. My planisphere labels Ophiuchus as "coffin". At 6:00 a.m. 12-21-2012 the sun will rise near Ophiuchus. The Math for the 3 days death and resurrection of the sun is simple: (365-360) / 2 = 2.5 365 = Number days in a year 360 = Number of days the ancients measured the sun move 1 degree. Thus, 360 degrees in a circle and earth moves around the sun in a circular fashion. 2 = The number of times the sun stops moving: The Winter Solstice and the Summer Solstice. 2.5 = The number of days the sun is "dead" or stops moving during each of the Solstices. In conclusion, on Friday 12-21-2012 the Sun dies and resurrects 2.5 days later on Sunday. P.S. Google the top 10 careers of a Psychopath: #8 is Clergy. Hmm? Devon, which will you choose, The Blue Pill or the Red Pill?
@Dexter O'Shields The church put his birthday on Dec. 25 because the that is where the Pagan holiday fell. It's also because of the Pagans why the Christians picked their easter holiday as well.
Why do you love this video? Because it helped affirm your belief you are brainwashed into? Mike is not a historian, he is a Christian theologian promoting his Christian religion no matter what is true or not.
My expertise is ancient history and from my understanding Jesus was a real person. I never had a doubt about that due to the historical records - and that does not include the Bible.
@@davelanger What do you qualify as "history books"? Or are you referring to ancient or modern texts that are not classified as "history? I'm assuming that you must not be "well read" then?
“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:4-11 ESV Let us not look at others to see what they can do for us, but rather look at ourselves to see what we can do for others. The latest scientific findings of the Shroud of Turin leads to the authenticity of that item. If you look at the facts of the science point to the Shroud is either Jesus or someone who suffered the EXACT same Crucifixion as Jesus.
Mike Licona did NOT take on the mythicist claims in your video. In fact, to put it mildly, this was nothing but an hour of mutual back-slapping. Richard Carrier's book on the historicity of Jesus is (in Richard's words so I don't misrepresent him) a 'peer-reviewed academic monograph' that deserves better than this smug dismissal of the entire mythicist case - even if you happen to disagree with its claims. Why not have Richard on your show and actually address his points?
Those who raise theories and counter questions against the historical Jesus should have to bear the burden of proof for their own statements.. Why should a disciple of Jesus have to prove their beliefs against someone who chooses not to believe in a historical Jesus..

A passage in 2 Peter is responding to Christians that did not believe the Gospels. We do not get to hear what they say.
Well said Gordon.
Great video! Greetings from a bachelor student of religion and a disciple of Jesus from Norway.
I love Norway. It is so idillic.
Mike, I appreciate you so much! I am a 70 year old disciple of Jesus still learning how to understand Scripture and follow my Savior. Your humble, transparent, knowledgeable spirit speaks to my heart.
The opponents of Christianity like Tacitus, Celsus, and Pliny would’ve loved to say that Jesus never existed. But they don’t. I wonder why!

“They persecuted people in possession of banned books”
“We don’t have the vast majority of writings”
Exactly!!
For tactical reasons”
(Joseph Goebbels).
This kind of evidence please!! I’ll wait!!
I rest my case!!

These neurological processes reinforce neural pathways (bridging literal gaps) in the brain in order to repeat thoughts, and behaviours like energy gathering (eating) along with specie perpetuation (sex). Going from drug addiction to Religion is just a placebo switcharoo (not a miracle).
Dopamine in varying levels is also related to creativity, patternicity, making nonsense make sense, and hallucinations (involuntary movements, tactile/feeling embraced, and speaking in tongues are also forms of hallucinations). Also see "Dopamine Hypothesis". Note that Paul was schizophrenic (2 Cor. 12:9), the early church was encouraged to hallucinate (Gal. 3:1-5), and perform glossolalia (1 Cor. 12:10).
"Dopamine, adrenaline, and noradrenaline are neurotransmitters that belong to the catecholamine family. Dopamine is produced in the substantia nigra and ventral tegmental regions of the brain, and dopamine alterations are related to schizophrenia (1, 2). Dopaminergic projections are divided into the nigrostriatal, mesolimbic, and mesocortical systems. Impairments in the dopamine system result from dopamine dysfunctions in the substantia nigra, ventral tegmental region, striatum, prefrontal cortex, and hippocampus (3-5). The “original dopamine hypothesis” states that hyperactive dopamine transmission results in schizophrenic symptoms."

It's a simple if then. If God isn't real, then yes, of course, some other explanation for the claims must be true, but if it's not impossible, and if it fits the data available about people's behavior and claims, then there's no reason it couldn't be true other than you saying it isn't.

Great video! Thank you Mike & Mike!
Thanks Mike. You have done a wonderful service
Mike is not a historian!!! He is a Christian theologian promoting the Christian mythology.
Thanks great video

But didn’t Jesus said: „The father is greater than I“ or „What do you call me good? Only God is good“. Could the church be wrong? Obvious God > Jesus
People ask these questions as if it has to be one or the other.
I'm used to Christian scholarship being crap. Although not worse than (for example) Richard Carrier. THIS IS GOOD.

I always ask Zeitgeist people so where does it say in the bible Jesus died Dec 25?
Devon,
Zeitgeist does not literally say, in the Bible one reads "December 25th" as the day of crucifixion.
2 + 4 = 6
3 + 6 = 9
Now we are working with the number 69
12 + 25 + 20 + 12 = 69
The exact date of the second coming, aka astrological allegorical second coming, which is the story in the stars, is December 25, 2012.
If you are interested in seeing the Crucifixion explained as an allegory on 12-21-2012 then watch "Astrotheology Fact or Fiction" link below.
ruclips.net/video/Hzk45GH-T84/видео.html
In that video, the flood story is explained as an astrological allegory using the astronomy of 12-21-2012.
The Math for the 3 days death and resurrection of the sun is simple: (365-360) / 2 = 2.5
365 = Number days in a year
360 = Number of days the ancients measured the sun move 1 degree.

Why?? Mike Winger is not a historian!!!! He is a Christian theologian promoting his religion. He literally lies telling you he is a historian.
My expertise is ancient history and from my understanding Jesus was a real person. I never had a doubt about that due to the historical records - and that does not include the Bible.
And what records are those? Jesus is not in any history books.
@@davelanger What do you qualify as "history books"? Or are you referring to ancient or modern texts that are not classified as "history? I'm assuming that you must not be "well read" then?
@@RMBlake007 the bible is not a history book, its a work of fiction
“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Philippians 2:4-11 ESV
Let us not look at others to see what they can do for us, but rather look at ourselves to see what we can do for others. Jesus was not only our perfect sacrifice but our perfect example. So let’s follow His example of humble servitude giving glory to God. CS Lewis said, “true humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less.” Hopefully this encouraged and motivated you today. God bless you!

Nobody is dying for something they have reservations or doubts about
And if we could by Gods grace number the 100s of millions persecuted unto death
It just stacks the deck in favor of the Gospel
Then add they dont hate Muhammad they dont hate buddha they dont hate Krishna
They hate Jesus just as he said they would and us by association are hated too
They dont want proof of his existence they want proof to validate their fears of being wrong yet being so stubborn and thick headed they pretend that's not what they're seeking
They dont troll tantric yoga videos or any muslim videos
Or the saddu guys videos
They troll Jesus Christ videos
