Since there was a surge in patreon due to the animation tool, doesn't that tell you that people are super interested in such tools and are willing to pay extra for access?
I think you could come up with a scheme where you combine early access to this and other tools while simultaneously keeping them open source, and this would bring you a lot of income!
A lot of aspiring game devs are more excited about "I could make a game if I wanted to" than about actually making a game, in my experience.
I'm not saying pivot away from your game, just saying keep this in mind, there's a lot of demand 😉

If you've been cutting corners, it's really hard to notice lol so even if you don't focus on quality, this will still be one of the highest quality channels out there. Just don't go chasing the perfect video because that's an impossible goal and I'm sure most subscribers would prefer to get videos a little more often, since the quality is already there.

Man I'm really happy for you! Getting to work on your passion project sounds amazing, I've often dreamed of making my own game but I have 0 coding experience, got the art skills down but couldn't make anything functional.
Wish you look with your game, every time i see your devlogs i get blown away by the way you think and solve problems, as a person just starting to getting serious into programming you inspire me to try solve more problems so i can get as good as you and other experienced developers are!

Wow, that's a huge decision, it's great that you are making (just) enough through Patreon. It's great that you're able to work on what you want to when you want to now.
