Nothing like getting off the ol' 9-5 to play a game about working 9-5
I think you are making a good choice by taking a break. Meanwhile, I'm one of those you inspired to participate in the Godot Wild Jam. I've only just finished the Global Game Jam as a team of 5 and now I wanna experiment as a solo dev in a week long jam. Thanks for the inspiration and have a good rest from the jam stress ahah
Thanks! So happy to hear I inspired you to make something especially nice to see the godot wild jam grow :)
@@mz_eth how do you join a game jam?
@@hazel4838it depends where they are, but a lot of them are itch.io and you can upload and submit through itch
I also just finished GGJ as a team of 2, funny seeing someone else here XD. (we had a second team of 8, but me and another member left for a second game)
As a potential solution for your issue of having to make different scenes for different forms of the same box: try using custom resources. You could create a BoxResource class that extends Resource, and then you can put all the data fields and methods that are common to all the forms of a single box in there, and then save it as a .tres file. Then you can instantiate that resource in every box scene (when it's on the floor, picked up, etc.) by doing, for example, var box_resource = load("path/to/resource.tres") and it will save you the hassle of synchronising the data for each of the scenes, as it will all be in one place - the .tres file. You may have tried this already, but if not, I hope it will help you. I still haven't found a solution that truly fixes this design issue, but this works decently well. Cheers
There are longer game jams to try, but I'd love to see you work on a full time idea!
Ignoring math classes seems like an indie dev special trait. You don't realize game dev is a lot of math until you start and think "Damn...I hated math class..."
I just played the game and it's so much fun. I think adding some ambient music and sounds and the lunchroom break would make this game a certified steam game on par with something like Papers Please
The way yoy do your lighting really creates an atmosphere especially in your rougu-like, please make a tutorial about it
Indie devs, don’t miss the Zombeez Game Jam on itch. Great chance to shine! ;)
Export vars for the box. You could have all these attributes and then when you drag in the scene set them so you have your special little objects. It’s a weird way to do inheritance but the other way would be doing class->subclass and I think you could also do groups but idk how groups work
6:19 no, thank you for making such a great vid !! Keep up the great work, I only wish you the best dude :)
I love the game concept, I'll have to check it out! And I'm glad to see you taking a jam break to focus on what you want/need to do, it seems like a really positive thing. Regardless of if you pivot what you want to focus on for your main project, I'm excited to see where it goes!
Thanks! Yeah I’ve been going back and forth a lot, but after this one I definitely will take at least a small break to see where I am
Thanks for the inspiration! I'm joining the February Godot Wild Jam as my first game jam because of your videos. Excited to see where you decide to go with a bigger project or more jams!
Do it! I can’t wait to see what everyone makes!
Love your videos bro hope you have a great break!
Game turned out great! Genuinely think this could be a really cool sim game if you flesh it out
This is fantastic mate!! You have made me change the way I am learning game dev and I even started doing art thanks to your dog video, that really helped me understand my own learning! I am gonna go game jams thanks to you as it will be good learning. Enjoy the stress break and I really wanna play a full game! keep going my friend!
Thank you so much!
nah mate, thank you!!! it has been a really great happy accident stumbling onto your page and its helped me greatly! good luck with more stuff to come!@@mz_eth
dude make some tutorial about your lighting. your games have such a distinguish feeling
Really, so distinguished,
He would get so many subs if he did a tutorial on it😪
You are one of the most entertaining and inspiring gamedev youtubers ever, your work is really incredible. I hope to be like you one day :)
subscribed to you 1 minute into the video because I realized you were the youtuber I have been looking for all these years.
i actually would love seeing updated version of the game
it's pretty fun
After finding out about this jam and learning it's 9 days I have decided I'm going to do it this month. I don't think it's going to go well and I doubt I'm going to get a very good game out of it but I think it will be the best way to ingrain myself in Godot, since after 3 days of learning it and tutorials I'm already losing a lot of motivation.
you have every right to be proud of what you put together for this game jam. I was really impressed when you turned to implementing the mini game ideas. Now, when you get a chance, can I please get another custom MZ Timesplitters map???
The genesis of me wants to make games. It really all comes back to timesplitters
You are, something else, keep being you my friend, and the world will reward your effort, keep creating :)❤
Love the vid man. You are awesome and a great inspiration to me.
Oh damn thank you!
This looks like a really fun game, to be honest! Great devlog! Subbed.
Thank you!
What if there were different ways to load the truck (tossing, kicking, catapulting) BUT loading the truck in "fun" ways catches the eye of your supervisor who is totally against fun and he will speed up how many packages you have to load while the time limit remains the same?
AMAZING GAME!!! Gotta be the best game dev channel out there❤❤
I don’t know about that 😅 but THANK YOU, you should have seen the crazy other good games in this jam!
It feels like a smaller, simpler version of the diaries of a spaceport janitor. It is wise
Create some playlists. I wanted to see all the games/gamejams/devlogs you've done. Great video, hopefully you'll find some time to expand to add a breakroom scene.
Okay I can definitely make a game jam playlist. Thank you!
Sounds like a fun game to me, particularly for a 1-week production timeline made by one person. Kudos!
Thank you! It honestly would be fun to expand
please make keep developing on this game. it looks super fun.
could always do a game jam, make it playable and then polish it for a couple weeks so you don’t have to crunch it down into one week, knowing you’ll have time to improve it.
i was just demotivated for a jam i joined aaaand you uploaded now i know i have to finish it...
YOU HAVE TO OR I WILL KNOW
I had the same idea going into that jam, but never finished it 😭
I think I like this idea the most of the ones ive seen from you. Maybe cause ive also worked in an amazon warehouse and share your fedex pain lol. I think its always a good idea to give yourself breaks when you can. But ill add that youve definitely piqued my interest in participating in one of these week long jams myself. Only done the global game jam before and im interested in spending more time learning something rather than just throwing together the first idea i have cause of teammates and only 48 hrs.
aww hecks yeah new video
your games ideas r brilliant, and to manage to execute them in less than a week is just unbelievable! love the Devlog :D
Another good video, That 11mins only felt like 2 lmfao. keep it up ::)
Haha that’s probably because I talk too fast and am always shaking from caffeine
You are soo severely underrated it's crazy.
Knowing you've shipped something with game-breaking bugs, and knowing there's nothing you can do right now to fix it, is the worst feeling. Doing all this in a week isn't a small task, I hope you're still proud of making such a great looking and feeling game.
Thanks! yeah it feels so disheartening to miss something at the end, but a good experience. Better that happens in these game jams than where it might really matter :)
I am not gonna lie, I adore the concept of your game based on your experience at Fedex. I would push it further after the jam if I was you, as I also worked in the same kind of environment for the same kind of crappy company. I would even be more brutal with the rewards, as I definitely did not get paid with the amount of boxes I did. Lol
Hey just started godot game development and came across your channel. I love your content and I hope that if you do decide to stick with a larger project for a bit we get some devlog updates on it. I honestly don't know why but I have been addicted to devlogs recently lol
Oh thanks, I’m actually uploading one today on it
@@mz_eth ah, very nice. Will be checking that out!
I like this guy. He makes me laugh.
Dude!
I loved your design ❤
When will you add it to GODOT so I can take a closer look to your beautiful art!?
Thank you so much! But add it to godot? Not sure I understand
UR MY NEW FAVOURITE PERSON
Honestly, I think this is a great game. Would also love to see the Far Gone Frontier as your next main project. Keep up with the great work, bro, love your videos!
Thank you! Yeah I was a little surprised how bad it reviewed compared to some other stuff I’ve done, but i mean no audio and that game breaking bug really hurt. But I’m happy where it ended up
We both an addict for game jams
11:03 guitar channel reveal
can you make a devlog of your roguelike sometime? I really like it!
Buen video bro
I always love your videos man. You've got a great energy, it's v entertaining to watch. Btw, I'm doing something similar, a game w/ amongus style mini games, do you have any tips on it, or any resources you used in doing it? I'm still new to developing and godot so I'm kinda not sure how to go about it.
If it’s godot, one of the things you may have to concern yourself with is input events and unhandled inputs. Basically there is a hierarchy that tells godot what to do when an input comes through, and it can really help manage things like mini games vs other actions in the game
maybe you could make videos fully expanding these game jam ideas?
I want friends to make games with, but im still new to making games and I feel like I’d only hold people back. Maybe one day.
Yay watching vid!
wow you already have 14k
I would pay like two or three dollars for a polished version of that game
There is someone who earns money for each packet you send, you just never meet them working there.
Here is some free validation 🎉🎉
As a fellow box. I approve of this game.
The only review that truly matters
i need to comment to point out the wind waker music played on pokemon soundfont
Soundfont?
great video and the game looks hella fun!! but like.. are you okay? genuinely??
Yeah! Promise :)
if you somehow updated this game, you should pursue the breakdown mechanic! this game will have the same mood with paper please which can affect the playtime of players
Yeah I agree, without over scooping it too much having some kind of real world elements especially when tied to money and working a job would be so interesting to work on.
Make more videos!!!! and pleasee get this rouge like on steam, i wanna wishlist
What software do you use to edit your videos?
hey quick question, which programs do you use for pixel art, animations and stuff
I want to start making games aswell and don't really know what to use
Photoshop, but if you’re more comfortable with something like aseprite go for it! Pixel art is really basic so you can use it in a lot of programs.
When this man learns you ca use shaders instead of new sprites.
I’m the most stubborn new learner lol
Hey mz_zeth what music did you use in the beginning? It sounds familiar but I can't place it.
Song of storms mikel chill remix :)
this is great depressing because this is my job but amazing
sorry I know you may get this a lot but what do you use for the pixel art? I really like pixel art but I can't find what software to use.
I use photoshop, other people like aseprite or krita
Changed the thumbnail 3 times interesting
Just trying different things, I think the thumbnail and title stuff is probably the hardest for me!
i made the mistake of pausing the video at 1:11 to look at the code and now i'm going to have nightmares about if statements. please seek god, he is the only one who can help you now
Are planned worked😂
What software do you use to paint pixel art?
Photoshop
Cheezit
LOL sorry for contributing to the new viewers
@mz_eth I want to learn gd script but I do not know where to start.Do you have any tips?
Also I’m only 13 so something free please
I hope i can participate next year
What about next month? The wild jam starts the 2nd week of every month :)
@@mz_eth lol im just getting into it this year im putting everything into learning scripts and patterns of what to do and not.
Do you want to do a game jam some time? I do pixel art
You love godot 3 or 4
I wonder if they would make a march to condem the hostage taking made by hamas and the atacks on israel as well
I just want to ask something.. how you prevent someone to copy your game?
do you patent your game? or you just let them copy your game
for some reason the discord is not working for me :(
The link should be good now! Let me know though :)
@@mz_eth I got in through the live stream. love the server already
make a tutorial! Please!😭
intro music?
Song of storms mikel lofi remix
