People would still complain even if this was a bundle. LM2 HD does more than just resolution bump though. it's like what TP HD did with way better texture work and also higher geometry.

Metroid Is Just not as "prime" of an IP in the Nintendo eyes it seems. It struggles to sell 1 Million copies. While Mario is Mario. Even people who don't play the games know who he and his brother are.
Not just consistent with the Price, but also with improvements/features; Prime got so many options that let you play however you want and simulate those every of the Consoles the game was released on, meanwhile Pikmin 1/2 got basically just a bit of Motion aiming when trying to throw or call a Pikmin, but not to the extent of the New Play Control!-versions (which is better by a longshot!). Then we got the Port of Luigi's Mansion 1 on the 3DS which also added some nice features (including Gooigi-Coop for the Story), while Luigi's Mansion 2 basically receives the bare minimum. It's quite a shame...
I really feel like they should have bundled this game with the first game. The first game was only like 7 hours long and it would give people more of a reason to buy this as you'd get to play from the start of the franchise. Would make the game feel more worth its price too.

But you have never played the original 3DS so the game would be brand new to you so why wouldn’t it be worth $60 for you? Just a resolution bump and nothing else new shouldn’t matter if you have never experienced the game to begin with.

Price point aside, I wish a Luigi's Mansion 1 + 2 was what we were getting because it would have made the entire series accessible on Switch. As it stands, anyone who wants to play the excellent Luigi's Mansion 1 has to either have the GameCube original or the 3DS remake. That kind of stinks.
Porting Samus Returns would have been a much better choices. Perfectly timed with the Metroid Prime 4 reveal in the Nintendo Direct. I don't understand why this was ported when nothing was improved. And in June? Why release this in June?

Digital Foundry just released their video analysis for LM2, it's more than just "a resolution bump" they re-worked most of the textures, character models, improved lighting and shadows, etc.

@@bekkfxst Awakening saved the franchise but Fates surpassed it in sales only being surpassed by Three Houses. And remember, an HD port is leagues easier for them to do than remaking a game from the ground up. With the increasing dev times for games (which Nintendo has already mentioned), I can definitely see them using these games to pad out their release schedule.
I loved this game back in high school. My 3DS has long since broke so I’ll get it again on the Switch to re-experience it. It has been 11 years after all.
Finally I can play this on the big screen. Emulators could never run this game properly, so for a Luigi's Mansion fanatic, this is exactly what I needed. This game paved the way for Luigi's Mansion 3 and deserves more respect than it seems to get.
Pricing issue aside, I'm looking forward to playing LM2 HD as I never played it before. Big fan of LM3 tho, so I have a feeling this will be a good time Side note, on the eShop LM2 HD was at 29 on the charts; with that being for pre-orders I get the feeling this game is going to do alright sales wise

I will never understand giving a lower score for a rerelease of a game that's as good or better than the original... I get things like silent hill collection on ps3, or sonic the hedgehog on gba So it's the same game, no removed content, better graphics, better controls, and even the same price as it was back in the day ON SWITCH literally the only complaint I saw was a few frame stutters in the opening cutscene, and yet it gets a lower score

Game design progresses, though. Films, games etc that were considered awesome years ago can be outdated today. It makes far less sense to automatically rate everything the same like back in the days when the world has moved on.
I never thought the controls were really that bad on the Luigis mansion, dark moon. Believe it or not I used to have problems with the controls but I ended up getting used to them. It probably controls a little bit. Different, because it's on a handheld. But I will say the first legislation on the hand out controls a bit funky. And I played for that game a few times now

Honestly my new3ds xl is working just fine and i own the game there. Don't think I'm ready to pay 60€ just for resolution bump when I can easily play it already

Luigis mansion 2 was my favourite 3ds game and is very sentimental to me. When i bought for black friday the other day. Even though it is the exact same game it is so worth it for people who have already once played it and for new players too
Sounds like a good remake. Especially happy about the improved anti-aliasing and higher resolution. Too bad they couldn’t go up to 60fps too, but that shouldn’t be too problematic for a third person slow paced game like this. As for price, Nintendo is clever here charging $60 for what would have likely been $50 at the start of the Switch lifecycle. Essentially getting that $10 bump that most publishers are going for these days while still appearing to be at the standard $60 price point. Alas, I’ll be picking this up on day one because my wife and I loved LM3 and I’m sure we’ll have a blast with this one too.
Maybe I'll give this game another try. I got to a point I thought it was over and found out I was only half way through but was burned out of it. So I never completed it, maybe I'll will this go around.
They already started with Miitopia and are continuing with Donkey Kong Country Returns. The whole Gamecube, Wii and DS family era is being remastered since they'll have to put the games on NSO eventually. They wanna milk them one last time.
3DS is notoriously hard to emulation so I wouldn't count on it coming to NSO and Gamecube is harder to emulate than n64 so again I wouldn't get your hopes up

It also explains why they suddenly started doing several Gamecube remasters. The DS family I agree is a bit iffy whether they'll come or not. It'd probably take too much work to fix the controls for many games. Maybe Nintendo would just be very selective with the games.

I adored Luigis mansion 2. I’m getting it for the nostalgia, but I know a few months from now it’ll be a bit cheaper 2nd hand so I’ll probably end up getting it that way.
Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon is truly the black sheep of the franchise. I enjoyed it back in the day, but it's hard to want to go back to the mission format, it robs the exploration aspect that made the first and third so great.
I played the original Gamecube and LM 3, so never played Dark Moon. Is this worth playing/picking up? I've never played Paper Mario TTYD, so been deciding between the two which to play (or both?)
Paper Mario TTYD is the better game between the two and a full remake, but I would reccomend playing LM2 later down the line. Just not for $60, since it is a bit of a steep price for what seems to be a minor 3DS remaster.
Paper Mario Thousand Year Door is incredible. It’s the best paper Mario game in its series. Luigi’s Mansion 2 is okay but the worse game in its series.
The only thing i didn't like about this one was the chapter structure. Sometimes you'd miss some collectable and basically had to redo the entire chapter to go back and get it.
Agreed, I much prefer the approach of LM1 and LM2 having one main mansion/hotel with different areas, rather than a mission-based structure with multiple ones.
It looks great! I still like this game a lot. I have the 3ds. I will be able to play this on a bigger screen. The 3ds version is blurry compared to this version.
The price is awful but I’m excited to play finally get around to finishing 2. I loved both 1 and 3. I’m holding on monkey ball currently since there’s a lot out at the moment across all the consoles.

I have a 3DS, but don't have Luigi's Mansion 2 Dark Moon on it so it's a great move from Nintendo to bring Luigi's Mansion 2 for the Switch, but only as a HD Remake and the normal Switch game's price a $60 because in my opinion thsi should be a $40 game, of corse Dark Moon is amazing a classic 3DS game and it's nice to see this have a multiplayer mode with 4 players, but still it dosen't need to be that pricy game because nothing can't beat Luigi's Mansion 3 before Luigi's Mansion 4, for me the Score is a 8/10 the good game Luigi: Ooh Noo not again! 💚
Pretty sure my kids are gonna love this. They devoured Luigi's mansion 3 and replayed it a lot. This looks more challenging, and it's a bummer there's no local co-op, but I think they're gonna really dig it.
i beat this game back on the 3DS. I liked it for what it was, of course it doesn’t compare to the creepy vibe of the first game. But regardless, i may consider getting this port just to replay it again, im sad tho there isnt any added content

Despite being the first infamous departure from mood and gameplay that makes LM1 remain above it two successors, its a shame that LM2 still has bittersweet semblances of LM1 that make it feel like it would be a much better game if only you could surgically improve on certain obvious flaws like the mission structure or the rendering. Unfortunately they had the opportunity and entirely ignored it, and all that means is this game still remains nebulously tied with LM3 even without the controller limitations or low resolution simply because of how the gameplay loop is designed and how lacking the visuals are, and in that regard, casuals ignorant of the series will certainly focus on the latter, doing this game no favors compared to LM3. An actual remaster with updated textures and lighting rather than just an HD port would've required moderately more effort, but if they could have done the the bare minimum of matching LM3 or, heaven willing, replicated a fraction of LM1s 'je ne sais quoi', this rerelease would have had much longer legs for $60. A full on remake that made each mansion seamless, well that's a pipe dream, but it would have been extremely compelling, to the point of being a must buy for people who even played the original.
You do realize this version actually redoes all of the textures and lighting. But it still stays true to the original aesthetic. It feels like how you remember Dark Moon being but it is a night and day difference.
@goldmemberpb I dived into it and checked the comparisons and you're right, apparently they put a lot of work into making it look exactly how people remember the original but with only technically better models/lighting ... which is not the worst possible outcome but still very unfortunate ...they put all that extra effort in only for the game to not meaningfully feel any better beyond the resolution update and native twin stick controls. Doesn't really hurt the consumers, and the workers got paid, but still seems like a shame. If you're someone who has played DM before this probably still isn't worth $60. A mere port although unideal would have cost less but at least had equal value to first time players regardless. These graphical updates may be the reason the game is $60 at all, which is just going to compound into less sales. I'm conflicted. lower sales may steer the series away from DM design approaches, but is may equally as likely discourage Nintendo from making LM in general. And nothing this game does wont change the fact that LM3, flaws and all, sold 15m+ so who knows how Nintendo perceives that success in relation to the actual design details of the game.

It honestly boggles my mind that Nintendo didn’t rerelease this on Switch alongside the 3DS remake of Luigi’s Mansion 1 so that we had the full trilogy on Switch. Since while LM2 isn’t a bad game by any means, it’s certainly not $60 worth, especially for a minor remaster that does nothing but minor touch-ups. It’s wild how a remaster as visually impressive as Metroid Prime Remastered can be $40, but not this. I did get it for basically $33 with the PlayAsia deal where you got 3 games for $100, but I most likely wouldn’t have bought it otherwise. And I can only hope we do still eventually get the first game, whether as a port or full-on remake with LM3’s visuals.
I've played the 3ds original a couple of times, I always enjoyed the 3d effect; are the nicer graphics a shallow trade-off against the loss of the 3d effect?

I have one kislux bag I got in 2019, it's the LV white catogram speedy. It's counter quality and it has a nice honey patina now, so the leather is real. I think whatever makes you happy go for it. I've seen LV with plastic leather and blood red glaze...
No mention of the loss of the 3D effect provided by the 3DS. For me that was 80% of the charm of the game. To explore small 3 dimensional diorama settings was cool with transparent ghosts floating in 3 dimensional space. The switch just turns it into another flat video game.

If you are planning on buying Echoes of Wisdom and kinda want this game. Use the voucher.

I just thought it was funny you'd include them because Fire Emblem doesn't do ports and the next game in line for a remake is 4, so the 3DS titles won't be getting any spotlight for another 10+ years at the very least.
@@bekkfxst Awakening saved the franchise but Fates surpassed it in sales only being surpassed by Three Houses. And remember, an HD port is leagues easier for them to do than remaking a game from the ground up. With the increasing dev times for games (which Nintendo has already mentioned), I can definitely see them using these games to pad out their release schedule.
Not a day one but it’s a guarantee pick up once it’s discounted.
Had so much fun playing this on the 3DS in 2013, looking forward to revisiting it on the switch.

I loved this game back in high school. My 3DS has long since broke so I’ll get it again on the Switch to re-experience it. It has been 11 years after all.

Finally I can play this on the big screen. Emulators could never run this game properly, so for a Luigi's Mansion fanatic, this is exactly what I needed. This game paved the way for Luigi's Mansion 3 and deserves more respect than it seems to get.

Pricing issue aside, I'm looking forward to playing LM2 HD as I never played it before. Big fan of LM3 tho, so I have a feeling this will be a good time
Side note, on the eShop LM2 HD was at 29 on the charts; with that being for pre-orders I get the feeling this game is going to do alright sales wise

So it's the same game, no removed content, better graphics, better controls, and even the same price as it was back in the day ON SWITCH literally the only complaint I saw was a few frame stutters in the opening cutscene, and yet it gets a lower score

Game design progresses, though. Films, games etc that were considered awesome years ago can be outdated today. It makes far less sense to automatically rate everything the same like back in the days when the world has moved on.
I’m looking forward to this game, mainly for the scarescrapper mode.
I never thought the controls were really that bad on the Luigis mansion, dark moon. Believe it or not I used to have problems with the controls but I ended up getting used to them. It probably controls a little bit. Different, because it's on a handheld. But I will say the first legislation on the hand out controls a bit funky. And I played for that game a few times now
I think it should have at least one extra mission per mansion, or even an extra Mansion.
I thought about them adding a new mansion to the game and a theme park would’ve been cool!

@@Yusei255Not necessarily, since even some remasters have new content. Such as Twilight Princess HD having the Cave of Shadows, or the upcoming Sonic X Shadow Generations having a brand new Shadow campaign.
Honestly my new3ds xl is working just fine and i own the game there. Don't think I'm ready to pay 60€ just for resolution bump when I can easily play it already

I guess the $60 value is for all the new people who never got to play this on the DS when it was dark moon and to them it seems like a brand new game, but I’m glad that they re released this
Luigis mansion 2 was my favourite 3ds game and is very sentimental to me. When i bought for black friday the other day. Even though it is the exact same game it is so worth it for people who have already once played it and for new players too
Sounds like a good remake. Especially happy about the improved anti-aliasing and higher resolution. Too bad they couldn’t go up to 60fps too, but that shouldn’t be too problematic for a third person slow paced game like this. As for price, Nintendo is clever here charging $60 for what would have likely been $50 at the start of the Switch lifecycle. Essentially getting that $10 bump that most publishers are going for these days while still appearing to be at the standard $60 price point. Alas, I’ll be picking this up on day one because my wife and I loved LM3 and I’m sure we’ll have a blast with this one too.
Maybe I'll give this game another try. I got to a point I thought it was over and found out I was only half way through but was burned out of it. So I never completed it, maybe I'll will this go around.
I kind of feel like they just have a list of 3ds/ds ports they wanna make and method in place to get them out, and this one is kind of a tester

The whole Gamecube, Wii and DS family era is being remastered since they'll have to put the games on NSO eventually. They wanna milk them one last time.
3DS is notoriously hard to emulation so I wouldn't count on it coming to NSO and Gamecube is harder to emulate than n64 so again I wouldn't get your hopes up
@@mgxzazfbyjuchrisclarkvpz236 Well I doubt they'd just stop where they're at with NSO. Gamecube is pretty much a given since while it can be tough to emulate it's still pretty straightforward. It also explains why they suddenly started doing several Gamecube remasters.
The DS family I agree is a bit iffy whether they'll come or not. It'd probably take too much work to fix the controls for many games. Maybe Nintendo would just be very selective with the games.

I adored Luigis mansion 2. I’m getting it for the nostalgia, but I know a few months from now it’ll be a bit cheaper 2nd hand so I’ll probably end up getting it that way.
Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon is truly the black sheep of the franchise. I enjoyed it back in the day, but it's hard to want to go back to the mission format, it robs the exploration aspect that made the first and third so great.

I played the original Gamecube and LM 3, so never played Dark Moon. Is this worth playing/picking up? I've never played Paper Mario TTYD, so been deciding between the two which to play (or both?)
Paper Mario TTYD is the better game between the two and a full remake, but I would reccomend playing LM2 later down the line. Just not for $60, since it is a bit of a steep price for what seems to be a minor 3DS remaster.

Paper Mario Thousand Year Door is incredible. It’s the best paper Mario game in its series. Luigi’s Mansion 2 is okay but the worse game in its series.

The only thing i didn't like about this one was the chapter structure. Sometimes you'd miss some collectable and basically had to redo the entire chapter to go back and get it.
Agreed, I much prefer the approach of LM1 and LM2 having one main mansion/hotel with different areas, rather than a mission-based structure with multiple ones.
It looks great! I still like this game a lot. I have the 3ds. I will be able to play this on a bigger screen. The 3ds version is blurry compared to this version.

The price is awful but I’m excited to play finally get around to finishing 2. I loved both 1 and 3. I’m holding on monkey ball currently since there’s a lot out at the moment across all the consoles.
I never finished Luigi’s Mansion 2 on 3DS, it just didn’t do it for me. I hope playing on Switch with better visuals will entice me to finish it.

I have a 3DS, but don't have Luigi's Mansion 2 Dark Moon on it so it's a great move from Nintendo to bring Luigi's Mansion 2 for the Switch, but only as a HD Remake and the normal Switch game's price a $60 because in my opinion thsi should be a $40 game, of corse Dark Moon is amazing a classic 3DS game and it's nice to see this have a multiplayer mode with 4 players, but still it dosen't need to be that pricy game because nothing can't beat Luigi's Mansion 3 before Luigi's Mansion 4, for me the Score is a 8/10 the good game Luigi: Ooh Noo not again! 💚
Pretty sure my kids are gonna love this. They devoured Luigi's mansion 3 and replayed it a lot. This looks more challenging, and it's a bummer there's no local co-op, but I think they're gonna really dig it.
Let’s hope this sells enough units so Nintendo will consider a HD port of the first game as well
i beat this game back on the 3DS. I liked it for what it was, of course it doesn’t compare to the creepy vibe of the first game. But regardless, i may consider getting this port just to replay it again, im sad tho there isnt any added content

Despite being the first infamous departure from mood and gameplay that makes LM1 remain above it two successors, its a shame that LM2 still has bittersweet semblances of LM1 that make it feel like it would be a much better game if only you could surgically improve on certain obvious flaws like the mission structure or the rendering. Unfortunately they had the opportunity and entirely ignored it, and all that means is this game still remains nebulously tied with LM3 even without the controller limitations or low resolution simply because of how the gameplay loop is designed and how lacking the visuals are, and in that regard, casuals ignorant of the series will certainly focus on the latter, doing this game no favors compared to LM3. An actual remaster with updated textures and lighting rather than just an HD port would've required moderately more effort, but if they could have done the the bare minimum of matching LM3 or, heaven willing, replicated a fraction of LM1s 'je ne sais quoi', this rerelease would have had much longer legs for $60. A full on remake that made each mansion seamless, well that's a pipe dream, but it would have been extremely compelling, to the point of being a must buy for people who even played the original.
You do realize this version actually redoes all of the textures and lighting. But it still stays true to the original aesthetic. It feels like how you remember Dark Moon being but it is a night and day difference.
@goldmemberpb I dived into it and checked the comparisons and you're right, apparently they put a lot of work into making it look exactly how people remember the original but with only technically better models/lighting ... which is not the worst possible outcome but still very unfortunate ...they put all that extra effort in only for the game to not meaningfully feel any better beyond the resolution update and native twin stick controls. Doesn't really hurt the consumers, and the workers got paid, but still seems like a shame.
If you're someone who has played DM before this probably still isn't worth $60. A mere port although unideal would have cost less but at least had equal value to first time players regardless. These graphical updates may be the reason the game is $60 at all, which is just going to compound into less sales.
I'm conflicted. lower sales may steer the series away from DM design approaches, but is may equally as likely discourage Nintendo from making LM in general. And nothing this game does wont change the fact that LM3, flaws and all, sold 15m+ so who knows how Nintendo perceives that success in relation to the actual design details of the game.
@@xXEPIKgamerXx You can just wait for a sale or wait for a while. I imagine just like most of us, you got a backlog to get through. Or you can get the 99 bucks voucher and get this as a second game. That way, it is effectively 40 bucks.
Best part of LM3 was the local coop with Guigi. Wish they would expand that to future games
It honestly boggles my mind that Nintendo didn’t rerelease this on Switch alongside the 3DS remake of Luigi’s Mansion 1 so that we had the full trilogy on Switch. Since while LM2 isn’t a bad game by any means, it’s certainly not $60 worth, especially for a minor remaster that does nothing but minor touch-ups. It’s wild how a remaster as visually impressive as Metroid Prime Remastered can be $40, but not this. I did get it for basically $33 with the PlayAsia deal where you got 3 games for $100, but I most likely wouldn’t have bought it otherwise. And I can only hope we do still eventually get the first game, whether as a port or full-on remake with LM3’s visuals.
We should have had a Boss Rush added at least for the remaster. Or rematch the bosses like in the Remake of the Original Luigi’s Mansion

I've played the 3ds original a couple of times, I always enjoyed the 3d effect; are the nicer graphics a shallow trade-off against the loss of the 3d effect?
All the "this game should be $40" comments are amusing now, and will be hilarious next year when every Switch 2 game MSRPs at $70 and GTA6 launches at or over $100. Enjoy $60 while it lasts.

I have one kislux bag I got in 2019, it's the LV white catogram speedy. It's counter quality and it has a nice honey patina now, so the leather is real. I think whatever makes you happy go for it. I've seen LV with plastic leather and blood red glaze...

No mention of the loss of the 3D effect provided by the 3DS. For me that was 80% of the charm of the game. To explore small 3 dimensional diorama settings was cool with transparent ghosts floating in 3 dimensional space. The switch just turns it into another flat video game.
I’m gonna be honest the price being $60 sucks but i’m still gonna buy the game just for The ScareScraper. It’s fun and in my opinion way better than Luigi’s Mansion 3 ScareScraper.
