I also wanted to emphasize that the Exhange Slav is like a London System but with an even more defined pawn structure. Generally pretty easy to navigate structurally.
Great to see you back on RUclips! The exchange Slav is so stable, but I don't see Black use it nearly as often as QGD! Thanks for showing the steady strong stuff, it really helps us develop!!
I play the Slav when I know for sure it’s not exchange Slav but most players try to avoid it as much as possible. I recently just switched from playing the outright Slav to reach a semi Slav position via QGD.
Very happy to see you back on RUclips! was visiting your channel every other day to see if there is any new video! we would like to see you more here on RUclips! I know you said twitch, but the content here surpasses those blitz/bullet games on twitch! hope I did not sound bad here! thanks for coming back again!
Much appreciated - thank you for your encouragement and vote of confidence! I think I'll be a lot more active in 2023 once I've finished up my Scandi course.
I was following along with the engine during the game and thought f3 was a really hard move to find. Wasn't on my radar in the slightest. Nice find there!
My favourite line against slav. Small stable advantage and no terrifying semi-slav for you sir :) I wish there was a little bit more resources about it, as it seems it’s not that popular and respected as for example Nc3 e3 lines. Great video, John. Glad to see another longer time control game from you. You are the best :) greetings from Poland
An oddball plus for me in John's analysis is the number of times his moves were deemed "dubious" by S/fish which he didn't necessarily agree with. I've noticed in my analysed games that Missed Wins etc are often only because there was a complicated, long variation that was better that, at my level, I was never going to see. Great content. Thanks John.
Super instructive it makes me wanna play D4 a bit more. I loved the deep analysis part it's super satisfying to see how much there is to learn and how resilient a slightly worse position can prove to be. Black had lots of resources even though since the knight E5 move they seemed in a difficult situation following your thought process. Did you really recall that Kramnik Annand game from 2008 from the top of your head? If so, really it's an impressive display of memory man ! Very good to see you back on RUclips John thanks for the content. Peace
That f3 move was brilliant. That's the kind of move I would have such a hard time seeing because I get tunnel vision for one area of the board where the fight is happening. But the move works so harmoniously, chaining together the knights existing attacking threats with the rook on f1 awakening and all of a sudden putting brutal pressure down the f file. So cool.
Thanks, Mike! My hope is that the Scandi course is applicable to all levels post-beginner. I believe I have the right pedagogical approach in mind to achieve this 👍
The exchange Slav is why I stopped playing the Slav. It's worse than the London because they make you think you're going to play an interesting opening for an extra move.
It's funny John because today Danya in a very light-hearted spirit joked about you trading queens in a position that he was in. Yet here you opt not for the queen trade early.
I did a pretty good job this video predicting moves, but 17. f3 is not something I ever would have played (or even attempted to calculate). It was really instructive seeing how that move transformed the position. It was like the crest of the hill and then everything was so easy after that move.
Keep 'em comin'! Sweet! I don't care for ...e6, but the whole pattern with ... ne4 and ... f5 turned out to be troublesome for Black. Bc4 and Qh5 were just really nice.
Thank you, Peter! You're definitely in the right spot on my RUclips. I'm also quite active on Twitch and Twitter; links to those are in the video description. Thanks for inquiring 👍
What qgd variation would you consider more aggressive/dynamic for black? right know i'm playing the ragozin but i loose control of the position or the bishop for knight exchange doesn't lead to a tangible compensation... By the way always appreciate your videos!
Ragozin is tricky - very dynamic, and I bet the move orders are tough to grasp. If you're willing to put a pawn on c6, I'd say the Triangle (1.d4 d5 3.c4 e6 3.Nc3 c6) leads to some great fights. Also avoids the Exchange Slav.
I wanted to play 20. g4 threatening g5#. Unfortunately black has Rxd4! which undefends the knight. And you can’t take back or else Qxd4+ picks up your knight
You should create a separate channel or playlist just to cross-post your twitch content, even though it’s less curated I’m sure everyone would appreciate it. Thanks for the vids.
Can you please tell why in kings indian defence when black plays f5 white do not take on f5. And knight a6 is the move in kings Indian defence but why if you have e5 and knight c6.please reply
Hard to say, because this can be pretty situational in the King's Indian. In general, White doesn't want to give up the center with exf5, especially if Black can respond with ...gxf5 and obtain strong/mobile e+f-pawns.
@@JohnBartholomewChess please tell about other question about the knight on a6 rather than a6 in classical orthodox variation.i understand the knight on a6 in averbahk system it defends c7 pawn but what about classical variation
Hi! It's been about 6 months since I last watched John's videos. I tried last night and there were ads every 2 minutes. Is that intended? My tv had to update the RUclips app last night so maybe that had something to do with it. But it's impossible to watch these (including the newest one) with (usually 2) ads every 2-3 minutes.
20:15 Well, I don't like you being that unsatisfied with your time choices after all. You do have your opponent to look at for competition when it comes down to it. The whole "messy" as a description doesn't do it for me either. It feels like a basic emotion people get when time crunching goes in effect and is extremely predictable and unnecessary as a rushed outcome to comment on. In other words: Basic emotions kick in guys, you know how it is. Nods from people with tons of free time. Which I guess is cool, but why hate the machine taking your mf job tho, get a clue, your machine saved you time, ok?
I also wanted to emphasize that the Exhange Slav is like a London System but with an even more defined pawn structure. Generally pretty easy to navigate structurally.
It looked like a Jobava on Lithium. Good stuff
All the same ideas of London seem to apply just without the c pawns
Happy you’re back John. Good luck with the new things, you do deserve it.
Thanks so much 🙏
Happy to have you back John!!!! Thanks for all you've done for us here on YT!
You got me re-interested in Chess. Love catching your streams and videos in the wild. Stay grinding lord JB.

You and Danya coming back to RUclips in the same day, big combo. Glad you're back! Greetings from Brazil, I never miss a video.
“Sometimes move your F pawn” 😂. Cool move to find that really seemed to be the beginning of the end for black.
First!
Love to see you posting RUclips vids again!
Thanks! More to come!
Great commentary. It really helps to hear your thinking process.
Thanks for taking the time to teach us.
Hey John, glad to hear your throat is improving! Love your content!
Thanks so much!
Great player, awesome person. Wish you the best John.
Always missing this type of content, and I am grateful when you publish something! Thank you for the highly instructive video John

Thanks for your thoughts, Mark! Agreed, I feel the Chess.com analysis is unforgiving at times.

100% - it's the type of move that's a little hard to conceptualize at first, because the f-file appears so blocked.
I like the time control and the format
Appreciate the feedback!
Welcome Back Champ!
Glad to see you uploading again John! What rating is your Scandi course geared towards?
Thanks, Mike! My hope is that the Scandi course is applicable to all levels post-beginner. I believe I have the right pedagogical approach in mind to achieve this 👍
The exchange Slav is why I stopped playing the Slav. It's worse than the London because they make you think you're going to play an interesting opening for an extra move.
LOL 😂One idea you could think about is using the 2...e6 move order, especially if you're a Semi-Slav player.
RIP cartoon John. End of an era
Glad the voice is getting better!
Where have you been, young man?? We missed you , John!!
Yay! Johns back!
It's funny John because today Danya in a very light-hearted spirit joked about you trading queens in a position that he was in. Yet here you opt not for the queen trade early.
Keeping the queens on board instead of getting a good endgame. Who are you and what did you do to John? 😀
Nice to see a game in my favorite system as white. F3 🙏

*Okay, not "easy" but definitely a lot of momentum.
Absolutely. Once I saw that move worked tactically with Nf3-e5+, everything clicked into place.
Dang John my mind legitimately was blown when you showed that you were standing 😂 great video mate
Thanks as always for the video and stream, John! Just letting you know that your chess bazaar link appears to be broken (as of Dec 1 2023).
Thanks! Yeah, I'll probably remove that - I think it's been broken for awhile.
Ah, that sequence f3, exf3, Nxf3! (followed by RxB, Ne5+) - really, really, really nice JB 👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great video JB, now I'll watch it. 😂

Yes indeed, kinda cool and instructive to see how that formation collapsed for Black. Thanks, Tom - hope you're having a good start to your year!
Nooo, stahp ruining the beloved Slav 😂😅 Would love to see you play this as Black and how you handle it.
Ahaha! Yup, it's a tough one. I may have an idea or two I can share to spice things up, though they come with risk.
Ah you're back! Hello Hohn, hope all good with you sir - Where is your community, where can I follow you? Best wishes from the UK brother!

Will the Scandi course be uploaded on Chessable or somewhere else?
I will be self-publishing it on a course site. Haven't decided which one yet but will definitely keep you updated!
You should create a separate channel or playlist just to cross-post your twitch content, even though it’s less curated I’m sure everyone would appreciate it. Thanks for the vids.
Might do that at some point 👍
Finally. I always get sad when you stop uploading
very nice exchange slav
I like when you post videos
I like when you post that you like when I post videos
On move 20 I saw g4 and thought there was no defense. But it’s actually a blunder and let’s black get right back in the game. Can you find the move?
Glad to hear we won‘t see your eyes pop out of your face while wearing a superman costume on the thumbnails 😁
Thank you
Missed you buddy

The knight capture on move 18 and rook sac on move 26 were both judged as brilliant. And John took time for both.
