A Guide On How Not To Tilt In DBD | Dead by Daylight

  • This is a commentary & guide on how to avoid tilt in Dead by Daylight. It takes time to learn the game, be patient and don't be too hard on yourself. I use to get frustrated at the smallest of stuff, but over time, it'll be easier to play really well or bad but still keep a level head.
Also definitely go check out the creators feature in the intro clips, I love watching em play DBD and I'm sure you would too:

After playing League for around 6 years now, I've come to realise that tilting can make the experience worse but also make it way harder to rank up. Like you said analysing your mistakes instead of blaming others or perks will improve your mental leading to better games and more fun. Great video rapid! :>

And a lot of the times tunneling or camping is the best strat for killer but in doing so u are making the game hell for the other side. Dbd needs to rebalance both sides. Maybe make camaraderie base kit and maybe make it so kicking a gen will regress it slightly faster or just make it take slightly longer or just make it so skillchecks are harder or just make other ways to escape so everyone can focus on different things instead of just bomrushing gens

Every killer game I enter I adjust my expectations as I meet the survivors. When they’re better than me the focus stops being on “winning” and becomes about learning. Sometimes I even abandon focus to stick with an exceptional looper until I learn the tile.
I always thank afterwards for the chance to practice. Reframe your goals realistically and you’re much less likely to “lose” and even then it’s just a game.
Once after thanking someone I had them mock me saying I got destroyed. I was like… yes, how do you think I learned lol. Learning from defeat was totally alien to them. Humility does not seem to run in the community sadly.

Had a very similar experience to this and I kinda of stopped touching killer lately for a number of reasons. Lately i’ve changed my playstyle and a lot of the time I troll whenever I play survivor now so if I play killer I’m usually not trying. Played on dead dawg saloon as wraith and got told that I didn’t have 3000 hours due to how I played I guess(didn’t kill anyone) I actually caught someone at the end tho with noed but didn’t camp cause it’s boring af. Kind of just threw a build together, stbfl/noed/brutal/nurse’s calling and just played as I also am missing at least 20 killers still. (Moved from console to pc recently) No idea why people think doing something like that to get experience is weird let alone bad. If I just ignore them or never try to improve/learn what i’m doing wrong at a loop with someone that’s really good how I can expect to ever catch them let alone anyone else using the same tile?

i found this game much more fun and less tilting when i just started playing for fun instead of just escaping. after a while completing the same objective over and over again it gets boring. so you just have to make the game enjoyable by just playing to have fun. (which is what a game is for)

it's a learned skill but it really does help! i know with killer i got myself in the habit of just rolling my eyes, maybe taking a second, and then keeping going. and if exit gates are open, and the whole swf is there clicking and fast vaulting to get my attention, i just wander the map for pallets and breakable walls i didn't break and farming the extra points until they get sick of wasting their own time and head out, and that's helped a lot too. then post game, i try to compliment plays and gg no matter how annoying the other side was, learn from what they did, and move on. easier said than done but it's definitely easier seeing creators i follow embodying it too. thank you for making this!

Queue times have become bearable enough to just say gg and move on. You get in a game so fast now that you don't even have time to overthink the last. I've been playing League for 11 years and that game drained me to the point I was forced to leave because of how bad my anger was getting. A few personal notes:
I only consider unnecessary actions as toxicity, such as flashlight spamming (not necessarily clicking), t-bagging at exit gate or hatch (multiple, not just a courtesy gg tbag). I consider flashlight clicking in moderation to be a "come chase me" message. I also consider using exploits to your advantage as toxic, such as the rock climb exploit, which I have used before when there was a big one on suffocation pit. I also consider the new boil over meta as toxic because the only way to avoid it is to slug or play pyramid head.
Body blocking/ sandbagging: I consider sandbagging teammates as unsportsmanlike. I consider holding the game hostage, trapping any amount of survivors in a location where they can be held there for eternity, as unintentional gaming or basically cheating. However, I will sometimes trap a survivor in a corner during EGC and runout the timer for about 1 minute or so to guarantee that kill. It's the only time I will trap a survivor and keep them trapped for any amount of time, this is because it is guaranteed that they will die in exactly 1 minute and won't have to dc just to play again.
Farming: I only farm during difficult events (there's not many anymore) and/ or when 5 bps are brought in. I will never farm for more than 15 minutes and will actively end the game if it goes on for far too long.
    Consider counter: 6

The way you think is something I’m gonna heavily incorporate, even more so now. I’ve gotten way better with not letting situations get to my head, but sometimes they do. I appreciate you for making this video, cuz it will help a lot of new players learn about what this game can hold. I remember when I had 75 hours in DBD, and I was playing killer as huntress. I went up against a 4K hour average SWF team who absolutely kicked my ass. The example of “hey come chase me” while clicking a flashlight is what happened that game. I killed the one with the flashlight macro, and the others left. Even if the situation resolved itself the next day, with everyone apologizing on both sides; you gotta think man... people are gonna be new. People are gonna be bad. So why be rude if the killer seems to not be at the skill level? Thankfully, I don’t get annoyed if I get outplayed anymore, I just say gg and move on. Take rapid’s advice seriously, it saves experiencing a lot of unneeded stress. ❤️

I had great experiences with my opponents in my first ever games. Killers letting me practice skillchecks when I was visibly struggling, swf noticing I was stuck downstairs in Midwich and daring to seek me (killer) out to guide me to the stairs, or giving tips and cheers in endgame chat.
I find I remember this kind of experiences much better than toxic or annoying players, and they kinda made me a more chill killer particularly. Am I a bit peeved when I realise the super agressive survivors are so good and will probably get a 4 escape ? Yeah. But I've found being calm or even a bit goofy often makes the game much more enjoyable and healthy. I've had several games with confident (sometimes cocky) swf who stomped me but delayed opening the doors to show me cool tricks and hiding spots, or who stayed through the collapse because they thought I did well and deserved at least a couple of kills.
I remember particularly a super organised (I guess some would say sweaty) team on Eyrie of Crows who wouldn't stop sabotaging hooks under my nose and erasing my very visible traps (Hag on Eyrie is a pain) with their flashlights. I managed to get two kills, and that annoyingly good looper Jill was finally in reach... in a sweet spot of the map where I physically couldn't put her on hook without Iron Grasp, which I wasn't playing. (Top of the temple, with one offering that spaces out hooks I believe) Whenever she escaped, she could go back to that spot, and there was nothing I could do except go for her friend (who was smartly doing gens).
I know my killer friend would have exploded in rage over the game, he's super easily triggered, but I was honestly impressed ! When she and the David managed to escape, the postgame chat was surprisingly sweet once ggs were said and I told them I didn't know about that spot and that it was actually kinda fun to find out.
Having a positive attitude towards the game really goes a long way sometimes !

I’ve started doing two things that I feel have really helped me, especially as someone who is passionate about the killer side of the game. The first is to care less about my killer rank. I used to sweat to try to make it as high as possible in the rankings as a personal picture of how “good” I was at killer, but all that did was make me upset whenever I heard that dreaded “Entity Displeased” sound effect at the end of a match. Taking things slow on killer side, taking time to learn new killers, or try new combinations on my old favorites, has been really helpful because I’m just focusing on each match as a moment in time instead of obsessively trying to pip up. I’m only at bronze 3 so far…and I’m okay with that! I can confidently say that I’ve had some solid games this season, and that’s enough for me. Sometimes, even a few solid hits while I’m practicing nurse, especially a well-timed down with her, has been incredibly satisfying, even if I’m only Ash ranks.
The second thing I’ve started doing is deciding that, if I load into a match and I see an offering I don’t like, or if I notice there’s a lot of them, I can just…farm. And that’s okay. It actually helped me avoid a 4 man squad with the Exponential boon that, no doubt, would have been an incredibly frustrating match but was, in fact, super fun. The survivors were genuinely funny, and one of them even gave me a kill at the end. I would’ve been so upset otherwise, so it was nice to just relax and have fun with them, instead of trying to battle against them. I don’t play friendly often, because I’m more interested in learning how to get better as an aggressive killer, but giving myself that option to relax and have fun really takes the pressure off of my killer matches.

If you lose just be nice to the winning player and they usually match your energy and it brings your mood back down.

I had my friend take a 2 week break from DBD because he was taking things too personally and getting seriously angry. I told him to try looking at things from a different perspective. Example:
    1. We had a match where a survivor gave Myers Tier 3 and he started Tombstoning people. He was focused on being angry at the throwing survivor while I wanted to waste the Tombestone by forcing him to grab me from a locker (Myers waited 2 minutes infront of that locker).
    2. Ghost Face players tend to tunnel and teabag me. My friend gets angry at that (one Ghost Face held the game hostage and tea bagged me for 2 minutes straight) meanwhile I was laughing at the fact the killer was THAT mad at me.
    3. He hates when killers take the game hostage because of the time wasted and the idea the killer is trying to brag. I remind him the queue times are longer so having time wasted doesn't mean anything to me, also he can just alt-tab since DCing would increase the wait.
Overall he's trying to not take bad survivors or BMing killers personally. I also told him I care more about bloodpoints than escaping so losing for whatever reason doesn't matter to me. I get annoyed if we go to The Game, RPD or Midwich Elementary multiple times in a row though.

    • @Gordoniankid

For me as Killer, if survivors start BMing it usually doesn't end well for them. They either spam flashlights but don't know I can just look up or get too cocky in the end game collapse and get killed (they usually DC if that happens, which is funny).

Holy shit did i rage as a first-time experience. 4 man last-second flashlight bringing teabagging "pro" loopers (though I suspect a minor speed hack from them also) that didn't even bother doing gens, but they outplayed me significantly and I went meltdown mode. Naturally stepped away from the game for the past couple days while I wait for level 3 for the tome to come out.

When it comes to me, I used to play a lot of SWFing with a group of friends on ps4. spent hundreds of hours and I used to be one of the stereotypical survivor mains that you would see pretty commonly in salt vids. I took an extended break and ended up rebuying the game last year during summer. And I find myself adopting this more than ever, as I play both sides, and work to have fun rather than winning. It does take a lot of time, but I noticed that playing now seems a lot more fun and enjoyable when you take things like tunneling or face camping on the nose. The salt I receive many times is funny, and i laugh it off. Just the little things can really help make such a huge difference when playing a game like dbd.

I’ve finally turned the corner on bully squads, my first game *ever* was against one, they were very proud of themselves.
So, my advice is: find the weak link and tunnel them out. They’ll have one, someone who just does their gens normally. Ignore the clickers and the teabags they want the chase and are more ready for it than you are.
You’ll always know where those guys are, whilst chasing their friend they’ll be running alongside you going: “Please wait, I want to be chased that’s not fair, you aren’t playing along!”
The bully squad quickly becomes funny and attention seeking. Without the anxiety, they have very little.

I like a farming match every once in a while. It feels nice to know that there’s a killer who’s friendly sometimes, or survivors who are chillybillies lol. And that’s where you get slug races, and basement parties - item gift rings … etc.
What I don’t like the most is when a killer starts out a match pretending to be a farmer and then Goes full ruthless with NOED… such a betrayal. Lol … or when the killer takes you to hatch and hooks you in front of it and closes it. Those people have got to be actual sociopaths IRL lmao 🤣

To be fair, killer letting pepole farm then kill them at the end is fair, considering how little the killer gets for letting survivours farm compared to them. It's a game style I would call perception, alot used inn strategy games or sea of thieves for instance. Killers do get blood points for closing the hatch, so making sure they get to close it is also fair.
Personaly, I hate it when killers from the get go off the round choose to tunnel a survivour out because he is a easy target compared to the others. It have happend to me, it have happend to many others. I just go "I didn't like that very much" and carry over to the next game 🤷‍♀️

I enjoy the game a lot more, I find, if I don't bother with the endgame chat at all. The faster I can continue on to the next one, the less it affects my mood. I also try to re-define what I count as a win. For example, if I have a challenge to hook survivors, then it doesn't matter if I killed any or not, so long as I hook at least one to contribute to that challenge, that's a "win."

Recently, I was against a 4-man swf of Bill's, and their main objective was to make sure I couldn't get hooks. Sabo boxes, Boil Over, Unbreakable, the whole shebang, and sadly, we were taken to Crotus Press Asylum, too, with the hospital main building (without map offering).
I did my best against them (I played as Knight) and was quite frustrated since I could barely hook, though I did manage to get 8 hooks in total, even killing 1 of em.
In the end, one of em said GG's, and I did the same. I would then ask them not to do it on other killers for the sake of suffering, and they said they mainly did it cause they were feeling goofy.
I completely understood it and basically just said GG's again and wished them a good day. My frustration completely went away since it ended civilly with us both saying GG's.
Might just be me, but saying GG's has a weird way of calming down the situation.

I had a huge break from DBD, several chapters long. One DBD session Blight was added a week ago and the next there were rumors of Pinhead coming. Back then, right at the start of my return to dbd was a bug, where in the lobby no matter what player A had as their cosmetics on their selected character Player B would see the outfit that they had on that character. As in, Player A is default Meg and Player B is default Bill. Instead of seeing default Meg, player B would see whatever outfit they last used on Meg.
Before I learned this, I was getting very confused and annoyed at the survivors I was going against. I remembered who was who before the match started, but when we got into the game they looked completely different and it messed with my rhythm. Once I learned of the bug, I tended to ignore things like that, and things in DBD that annoyed me in general. No idea why, but I just stopped yelling at my screen, I stopped cursing out loud at 'Hex: Offender_69' or stupid things like that. I just remembered that this is a game and those people are trying to have fun, same as me. It might be through different means, but that's all it is. Fun
