  • My son started this project after building the camper setup for my Silverado dually (see two other videos on my channel). This one was designed with field work in mind. I think he did a great job, and his wife was the envy of her coworkers.

    Well done! One of the nicest setups I've seen. The 17 gal water tank pump and flex spigot is great. And it all looks really well made too!

    Thanks for the video, I have an 03 Tacoma, I’m shopping around for a camper shell now. I’m a merchant mariner so I’m off ship this is going to be my home for all of ‘18! 😋

    Nice, I would put a quik disconnect on the water valve so that you can hook up different things such as sprayer hose, shower hose and a goose neck spigot.

    Awesome job! I've been studying truck/camper builds for over a year and this is without doubt, in the top three for quality,simplicity, and comfort.
    I'm getting ready to do a tundra build and will use several of your son's ideas. Thanks for sharing.

    Wow! This is super impressive. I camped in the back of my tacoma last summer with an air mattress and it was a horrible experience! Stuff was everywhere. I love the pull out shelves. Your son is very talented! Wish he was local so I could pay him to make me a similar set up.

    Awesome set up. I'd probably add a rope and hook to the water valve just so I didn't accidentally turn it on getting in or out. Other then that, this is a very complete, well thought out setup!

    Great build! But I reckon you could improve on the design for very little outlay... a thin flexible light sensitive panel on the roof would be a great addition to keep the battery topped up.. secondly switch the current faucet for a shower/faucet arrangement on a flexible hose that can be used for showering with using a clip fixed to the tailgate or just to cleaning muddy boots off with etc..

    beautiful set up... only thing that struck me was.... i'd prefer a tad taller of a "shell" roof.

    can you ask your son to post where he got the wheels and track for the drawers? I'd like to make something similar and am curious to know what he used for that part of the system. thanks in advance! Also, does he have a sketchup plan for this system? I also have a tacoma and was wondering if plans were available.

    Amazing build but I have 2 questions!
    Are you running a second battery back there that the panel charges and that powers the pump or does it just piggyback on the truck’s main battery? Also what kind of bearing setup do you have under the drawers? Super clean build man!

      Go to Leer.com and see if they make a truck cap for your year and bed. You might want to check on Craigslist as well for a used one based on the year of your vehicles.

    • @thedocotrL
      @thedocotrL  7 лет назад

      The builder (my son) is just over six feet tall. Maybe 6'4" diagonally. As Apple Lysol says, 8ft bed would be better.

    • @Karl7608
      @Karl7608 5 лет назад

      A 6 foot tacoma bed has always been just over 6 feet by about an inch. Your question is like asking if I had a size 6-1/2 foot would I be comfortable in a size 6 shoe? although if you leave the rear hatch open you could always let your feet stick out, well if it isn't cold, rainy or if there are no mosquitoes, bears or other things that may bother you. He has done an excellent job on turning a Tacoma into a camper/sleeper with water access and the ability to use light weighted electronics like tv, dvd, computer and charging devices. Sure it's a lot of work for a first generation Tacoma but it looks to be in great shape and well worth the efforts.
