Jamaican World Traveler here. My wife and I have been to 40 countries since December 2015. Listen, when I tell people in Asia, Europe, Africa, Middle East etc. that I am Jamaican, everything and everyone opens up. If I need help for any reason whatsoever during my travels, all I have to tell people up front is that I am Jamaican. Conversations and smiles start to flow. Just came from Maldives for my wife's 40th bday and on one of the island resorts, my family was treated so special all because we are Jamaicans. Heck, the hotel manager said we are the first Jamaicans to stay at the hotel. Funny thing is that on Thursday nights, these people actually have JAMAICA NIGHTS and play reggae and do "jerk chicken" 😂 Aside black American culture, Jamaican culture is the most popular and influential PERIOD!
One thing I observed about jamaican they are so confident and bold them have confident in them self anywhere you see a jamaican they are not afraid to dance and self love.. it it's at the airport Jamaicans gonna dance .. football tracks or even netball game..Jamaicans gonna dance .
Well said, I totally agree with everything you said, not because I'm Jamaican but fact is fact, the Trini wasn't biased,he was very honest in his speech, respect my brother, and respect to you my sister

Jamaicans are very proud and vibrant ppl you recognize a jamaican any where africans even thought that jamaica was in africa due to lack of information some caribbean ppl seems a little offended they shouldnt I. am from tnt and I. Love Jamaicans we could. Learn a lot from them
Truth. I experienced that when I went to the Middle East as a resident of the Cayman Islands but I'm a Jamaican. When told we were representing CI they had no clue we just had to say Jamaica. We were so proud as most of us were Jamaicans.
Jamaica is more popular than All the other Caribbean islands because of Wind Rush. In the 1950s when the Wind Rush ship came through the Caribbean, more Jamaicans boarded it than all the other British Caribbean countries combined. While being sorted at the warf in England, because our lingo's sounds very similar to the white man, when he would sort out 20 Jamaicans and then 1 Trini, eventually he would just come to the conclusion that everyone on this ship is Jamaican, because they look alike and they sound alike. Now, island people are e party people and most of us would want to throw block party or basement party, but as usual, us Jamaicans out numbered all the rest of the other islands 10 to 1, so the Jamaican party was always jumping, and because at that time, since we were playing mostly the same music, which was mento, since Ska and Calypso were not yet in their prime, it was easy for all the islanders to come together as brothers and sisters and celebrate together. On another scale, when young men turn to crime, i doesn't matter which country they were from, they were blamed or changed as Jamaicans, because by this time the English thought that any black people from the Caribbean with a certain type of accent, were automatically Jamaican. As time goes by and the 60s came around, Jamaica became a music hub. Ska became a house hold music, and even the English boys were loveing it! Rock steady came and did a short run and then Reggae took over. Rastafari became a movement in the fight for black people struggle and Reggae played a very integral part of it. As Reggae becomes global, Ganja also become synonymous with the name Jamaica and that's how we took over places like New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Miami in the 70s and 80s. With the name Jamaica being mentioned by the two most powerful countries in the world almost everyday in all their news, countries who wouldn't otherwise know or even care, now started to take notice, and of course they would see not only the negative, but also the positive of this little country. The hippie movement also helped to bring the island to the spotlight also, with the aid of Ganja again. As Rastafarism spread across the world, Those who joined the hippie movement would feel a certain connection with this way of life, and of course here is a country that they could come and smoke as much weed as they want with little harassment from the law. So of course they would leave Jamaica and go home and sings it's name and others would also want to go. With so much going on for Jamaica, our little brothers and sisters would be left shrouded in a mist, and it wouldn't help that Cuba, the largest island and just 90 miles away from us, is a Spanish country, which is communist, and is under a US embargo, while Haiti was fighting crisis after crisis. That's my thoughts as to why Jamaica is the most popular Caribbean island.😊
I am glad to see the perspectives given by blackbway. It was also that Rastafari, originated in Jamaica, in the 1930s. Ska and reggae music were influenced by the Rastafari faith and socio- politico doctrine of the fight against our oppressors and the love of the Motherland of Africa. Jamaica has also given political support to different African countries during their liberation struggles, before reggae music. We began the advocacy for sanctions against the apartheid regime in South Africa and before we assisted with legal representation of the Mau-mau leaders during the Kenyan liberation fight for Independence. As for sports, remember that we as a tropical country entered a bobsleigh team in a Winter Olympics. Our track history began in the Olympics of 1948 and 1952. The last of those 4 great sprinters passed on about a couple of days ago at 92 years, George Rhoden.
The reason Jamaica is the most popular island is the PEOPLE. With that small population Jamaica have produce more champions prominent people in all fields across the globe than African Americans, 220million braggers from Nigeria, all blacks around the world. One love brethren from Ghana 🇬🇭
I remember talking to this Russian girl and the topic of Africa came up, so she asked me where in Jamaica is Africa. I was waiting for her to say ' i make funny joke, no' but she was waiting for me to answer.
I think our paintings and artwork are one of the best too. I remember I bought a souvenir for my cousin for her car and everyone she offers a try wants to purchase it. She told them that it was not for sale.
Jamaica is a paradise.but no one should be poor. The whole world loves the paradise island and all want to visit. This should be an invcentive to give all the residents a higher standard of living.
@@ondaa1966 I believe Jamaica can be better. It is a beautiful country with beautiful spiritual people. You are right in these points...but, here is a puzzle that you didn't answer. Why did Jamaica, as one people, get so many ducks in a row? The universal love culture, the unbelievable charisma that we only notice when we travel, etc. I remember as a travel chef, explaining to a newbie that anywhere he sees a Jamaican in the kitchen he or she will be the boss, even if he was not the boss. How do we do this? Like, one time, I went to pick up a Philippina friend in Boston, because his vehicle was down. And when I got there, people were staring through all the windows to verify that he was telling the truth about having a Jamaican friend. He had me step out to prove it.
@@DorraineReid Culture. Try analyzing by using human relations psychology and sociology. What are our customs and beliefs and norms? Our culture is 'different', but it was created by circumstances, like a coincident. We ended up finding the best mindset cultivation strategies by 'accident'. Someone should do a real study into it and it will blow your mind. Notice that if you bring a child from another culture for long enough, they become like us to their people when they go back home. So it's not pure genetics. It's the culture they become subject to.
I empathized with this gentleman from Trinidad and Tobago. I just wish that Trinidad and Tobago and the rest of the Caribbean islands would only assert themselves a little bit more by promoting their special and unique wonders and contributions to the rest of the world. For starters, T&T started Carnival as we know it today and invented the amazing Steel Drums. We are all part of the same Caribbean region and share similar climate, beaches and hospitalities that are not unique to Jamaica. At least the people of T&T are not as aggressive and violent as us Jamaicans tend to be among ourselves. Also, if I am not mistaken, I believe the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC Exams) were initiated in T&T and Barbados in the late 70's which I had to sit before leaving High School in Jamaica. In my opinion, the most salient feature of T&T is the high percentage of beautiful women in that country. Again, in my opinion, It appears that there are more attractive women per capita in T&T compares to Jamaica. Hold your head up high and be proud my fellow Caribbean brother, your country of Trinidad and Tobago has a lot to offer to the rest of the world. Just need to be a little less modest and a bit more expressive. One Love!
You speak so well and as a pleasant and clear voice ! Jamaican people have a vibe and they are trendsetters , lot of dance and slang that people uses through out the world started in JA even American hip hop was derived from Jamaican sound system ! It doesn’t matter where in this world Jamaican people go , they make themselves known, whether it’s good are bad ! As small as Jamaica is , they are known through out the world , Jamaica is so popular that it as become one of the most sort off destination in the world to visit and bursting at its seam with visitors ! They didn’t do so well in the Olympic, in the traditional sports track & field but they still went home with 6 medals, in different sports and there were countries that are way bigger than Jamaica but didn’t even got a medal ! Jamaican people are resilient they created a bob sled team and Jamaica have never had a drop of snow because one of Jamaica motto is , where there is a will, there will be away and they will find that way ! If you visit the 4 corner of this world , I promise you , that you will find a Jamaican and they are always proud of their island so they always advertising it , it’s bursting at its seam with visitors , that I am beginning to get jealous, that the beauty and tranquil that I know of might get ruining ! Keep on riding high my people ! 🇯🇲 😊
If I were from any other Caribbean island I would tell the world where I am from as follows: Jamaica Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica Barbados, Jamaica Dominica, Jamaica St Kits, etc. And Dorraine, the primary reason why Jamaica is so popular is Jamaican themselves - especially the ones who travel. Not sea sand and beach so much. Jamaicans have a brash confidence, a boldness, a don't-give-a-fuckness, vibefullness about themselves that are a sure standout anywhere. The Jamaican attitude is so dominant that others cant help but copy and admire. Small but tallahwah.
Well I am from the Nature Island of the Caribbean DOMINICA LAND OF 365 rivers and streams, land of the second largest boiling lake in the world, the ONLY other one is in New Zealand, island with the highest concentration of volcanoes in the world, one of two Caribbean islands that still have native indians the Kalinago who the Europeans called Caribs from which the Caribbean is named after, the other island is St Vincent, island where two thirds is tropical rainforest, land where you will find Champagne Reef where bubbles rise from the sea floor, land of Eugenia Charles the first female primeminister in the Caribbean. land of year round whale watching, one of the most rugged mountainous islands in the Caribbean and a land with a relative low crime rate. Culture that although is part of the English speaking Caribbean we have a strong French Creole culture as wel So there I am from another island and I am telling where I am from.
Girl Jamaica is a vibe and we can stand on our own we need no one . But anyone wants to follow us they can . But we’re leading because god see the rest of our Island ppl did not like us . Their parents tell them do not get involved with Jamaican ppl . 🤣❤🇯🇲🇳🇬🇰🇪🇪🇹🇬🇭🇿🇦🔥🔥🔥🔥
Jamaica is a little sister to Haiti. I was born and raised in Trinidad, but I can say that Jamaica is more popular than all the other Caribbean nations put together. I myself was amused while watching this video. Next time I travel to other countries and present my Trinidad and Tobago passport to that country's immigration, I will immediately declare that I am a Jamaican to get the royal treatment. I was told that older white ladies gravitate toward young black men once they discover you're Jamaican. Seemingly being Jamaican opens all types of doors. I can't figure out why Jamaica's passport is the second least powerful in the Caribbean right above that of Haiti's.
Jamaica is, probably, more popular than most of our Caribbean sister nations because it is the largest English speaking country in the region - period! English is the most popular language used for business. And, the fact that Jamaica with over 3 million citizens spread across the globe and having a unique accent that accompanies a particular style, it’s easier for a non-Caribbean national to come in contact with a Jamaican. Furthermore, it’s easier for non-Caribbean people to relate to Jamaican artistes because it would have been more likely that they had encountered a Jamaican before who might have given them a bit of exposure to things Jamaican. It all boils down to the numbers- the large number of English speaking Jamaicans across the globe. No other Caribbean country can compete! That said, our sister nations are doing just fine! They’re holding their own in sports and music too. We’re one great Caribbean family!
@@JamaicaSun876 you are wrong and you are right in a sense. Jamaicans in the us are a tiny fraction compared to immigrants from the other bigger islands that are there. We are well distributed across the world but that isn’t the primary reason we are so popular. Jamaicans, our style, our lingo, music, food, brashness and confidence, etc are things uniquely Jamaican. We are a fighting people with a fighting spirit. Did you know that America has two US vice presidents who are directly descended from Jamaican. We are more impactful on world the culture of the world’s two last empires than any other country - England, USA … and you can add Canada if you will.
Yo Mr. Trini, it's clear that when you represent yourself as a Jamaican access is granted. Remember the Jamaican motto is: " out of many, one people." So don't feel bad, it's no problem if our Caribbean neighbor rep. as yardi. Just get a little yard accent. Yu si wah mi say Trin, Big upi.
What people fail to understand especially our Caribbean neighbours is that Jamaicans worked hard to make a name for ourselves, it's not an overnight thing, Our people are just different, whatever there is Jamaicans will push above their weights. Remember Jamaica is a dot on the map with 2.9m people plus another 2-3m in the diaspora, which gave the world 5 different types of genre in which other country copied and build their genre, Jamaica won 4 miss world title behind only two countries in the world who had the most. Jamaicans invented chocolates milk, Jamaicans are have both fastest men and women in the world, Jamaicans have created the most first in history it's beyond amazing, as we here talking about Jamaica achievements on the world stage, our very own Finance Minister just elected second in command at IMF, do know how big this is? And he's the first to do this from our region and central America. Do remember Jamaicans do all achievements without a strong economy. Other islands are much richer that us, so therefore I expected them to do much better. Some gonna say we are larger in population, but mind you, we are not much bigger than them, that the excuses they used, but yet majority countries in the world have millions of people, but Jamaica sized up with the giants. Now, to our Caribbean neighbours, our people worked very hard for our global recognition it didn't came to us by sitting down. Correction for the Trini man in the video, " yeah mon is not a Trini thing" it's a Jamaican thing or originally.
Ok you have to realize the sheer number of Jamaicans compared to other Caribbean Islands already put you at an advantage. It's very impressive that smaller Caribbean Islands with less people than Jamaica are getting recognized for something. Because that means they have something to offer than being in the shadow of Jamaica It makes sense that Jamaica will be more well known if you're more likely to buck up on a Jamaican than other Islanders. So I don't know why the comparison. Most smaller Caribbean Islands celebrate and support Jamaica. But many Jamaicans don't do the same. It's always we're the best yada, yada, yada.
@marciastx4540 yeah , but who motivates them and show them that they can that they can also offers something to the world? Jamaicans of course, in fact Jamaicans are role models to a lot of children and adults around the world, if you are honest you'll agree, give respect where it's due. Jamaicans are fierce and fearless, it's evident that other countries around the world getting to know that there are more islands it's because of Jamaicans, who shines bright in everything they compete in, they starting to Google search and other islands popping up. Put some respect on Jamaica's name. Happy to know our Caribbean neighbours are stepping up.
Caribbean neighbors have always been up and motivated by each other including Jamaica. The point is Jamaicans believe they are the only influencers. I already have Jamaica props, when I said we love and support Jamaica. Maybe Jamaica should try doing the same.
My family and I have been to Jamaica twice in the last year, and I must say that the main quality that sets Jamaica apart is that the Jamaican people are the friendliest people in the world, invariably good-natured and eager to help, never grudging or cold. People ask me if Jamaica is safe, and I tell them that there was never an instant where we felt unsafe, even in the streets of Kingston or Montego Bay walking around like anybody. Ordinary Jamaicans were actually looking out for our welfare. BTW, you mention "jammin", and I wonder if you could tell me what exactly it means in the Jamaican patois, since that word is used also in Sierra Leone Krio, and it might have a different meaning. I know the Bob Marley song, where I thought it meant "partying", etc., while in Krio it means more like "getting together". There's a restaurant in Montego Bay called "Nyam and jam", which I thought meant "eat and meet together socially", but I'm not sure.
I'm happy to know you had a great time during your visit...the Jamaican people are absolutely the best when it comes to hospitality. 'Jammin' in the context that I used it, means partying/lyming. It also means meet & greet and chill...on music, it means people just meet up and play music. So the context is important to understand the meaning of the word.
You have nothing to advertise, which is why you're in the back, always hating and trying to compete where you don't compare. WE command attention hun reason why we're number one.Jamaica to the bloodclaat world straight 🖤💛💚
What puzzle me is when we think of the Caribbean we often exclude Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Even as a student when we study Caribbean Geography we excluded these aforementioned islands. Yet we include Guyana which is on South America and not the Caribbean. Even when Caribbean Day parade is celebrated in New York or wherever else, the Spanish islands are excluded.
Jamacians will say their island is the most popular , and that's good. However so will St. Lucia / St. Vincent / Barbados / Antigua / Cuba / .Even though we live in London, I'm very lucky I have been on many holidays to the caribbean including two caribbean cruises with the wife. All the islands are popular especially saint lucia, been their ten times. That's where God goes for his holidays. Remember in life, it's different strokes for different folks .
@@johndasilva2686 the gentleman at the beginning of the video is not Jamaican... He is Trini...I don't think it is debatable though about which Caribbean island is the most popular.
If you study history the reason Jamaica is always going to be known it’s the fact that 75 percent of the tribe out of the Atlantic trade was sent to Jamaica , which make all sense greatnesses will come from that Island which will put us on the map at all times, read your history people before making any bad remarks I am a Jamaican.
Nonsense sense 75 percent of slaves would be more than 10 million people,10 million people couldn't hold in Jamaica! Or ever come jamaica! Anyway jamaicans alone are the isrealites
"YAH MAN" is a slang which was originated by the Jamaican rasta man which was and still InI way of saying,"YES MAN," He obviously heard it first from some other Trinidians.

We have the most win for Miss World and Miss Universe in the Caribbean, We impact on the world stage with brilliance, sports, music, food, our accent(everybody wants to be jamaican), our drive, our warmth and friendly nature and the list goes on and on and on. The islands that are showing jealousy you don't need to you can just take a page from our book and move on.
I travel all over and I also passed through places like Zambia and Kenya going to South Africa, Cape Town to be exact. I also went to Egypt in 2002, so I am NOT sure who he is meeting when he travels, because I NEVER have those problems when I travel. When I say, Trinidad and Tobago people know where I am talking about.
As a Trinidadian, I would like to say that Trinidad didn’t build their economy solely on tourism or music, no disrespect to all the rest of islands There are no hotels built by the beaches, the late great Dr Eric Williams the first prime minister of Trinidad, started the country’s economy on oil, manufacturing, natural gas and other things, tourism was never that one thing Because of the reggae music, great athletes and sandy beaches and the yea mon accent, Jamaica is the most popular
Trinis like this man only represent 2% of our population ask them if they want to go live in jamaica, bet they won't. Because they know what a blessing it is to be born in Trinidad and tobago....they get caught up in the popularity thing the jamaicans love, that is not us we are a modernized industrial nation. That have many worldwide achievements......why don't they talk about those and how jamaicans migrate here we don't migrate to jamaica, which is 20 years behind Trinidad in infrastructure and Amenities. They should talk about the millions they still owe us that's how as a kid I knew their prime ministers were yt and they had a yt Queen 👸......I remember their prime ministers showing up to Trinidad hat in hand begging for loans which we gave.....our teachers made us write small essay about the countries that came asking for loans. I have no problem giving loans to our Eastern Caribbean family at least they are greatfull. I prefer a healthy, vibrant industrial economy over a tourist economy that have people abandoning their island like a sinking ship. Some Trini people are too fame hungry 🙄
Candace, my dear Trini sister, why do you have to introduce facts? Jamaicans are satisfied, proud, and exhilarated when other nations know about them more than others. If you take that away from them, there is nothing left. For some reason, they think the rest of the Caribbean values popularity more than standard of living. Trinis, don't take that to the bank nor feast on pride.
I think you're taking this thing too personal Fam... If the Government came to Trinidad to beg it's not the people.... Jamaican migrated all over the world Trinidad is no exception... Hence their popularity... Because As they say Jamaicans will go anywhere....And to the other person who commented... Jamaicans are industrious, innovative, creative and all the other intellectually description.... So don't be biased in your views.... Yes and Jamaica is popular... That's a Fact...
Most of you'll would gladly give America their flowers for their popularity... But to recognize another Black Country and give them what is Naturally dew to them.... Jamaican cares zero about what you think remember that... The influence speaks for itself... Both negative and positive.... That's why you have Trinibad now right... Where that influence comes from?????🇯🇲 Right......
@georgeanthony6511 Didn't lynn Tait and Trinidadian influence reggae? It goes both ways your tourism board said your trini style carnival was the most lucrative event this year in jamaica. We always gave jamaica its due. your presence looms large over the entire Caribbean and we accept that. But we are different your thing is fame and being recognized ours is being an industrialized nation with jobs and prosperity. That is why your people and many others come here. You're Welcome 😊
on athletics...what is surprising is that while Jamaicans are so good in splinters (leopard hunting) but not in long distance and marathon (cheetah hunting)... writing from east africa

I remembered that after the Olympic games,I met Qurrie after returning to Jamaica. I was in Port Royal in Training when he visited the police school and I,got to shake his hand ✋.I was really glad how that guy from T&T admitted that Jamaica is more popular, than his country. Because every country he entered,he always having a problem to enter and once. He said that he was from Jamaica, there was no more questions asked of him. It is not a matter that Jamaica is advertising it's self, but we used the world stage to established ourselves. I remembered one time I was in the United States and a white guy,saw a group of us as guys was talking. So he was asking us which islands we were from and one guy told him T&T,he asked him if it was apart of Jamaica. Because he said he never knew about T&T at all,do you know that some people. Strongly believes that some of those Caribbean islands is apart of Jamaica because they are not established at all ok.
As a Jamaican when l travel, and take the taxi, and they ask you where you are from and you say Jamaican, if they are playing there own song, they turn it off and start playing reggae.
Those other Caribbean islands need to promote their culture worldwide and not just in their native countries. The beach reference is a little bias tho. You can't said some islands don't have beautiful beaches. More than 98% of Caribbean islands have beautiful beaches. I appreciate you for not saying Jamaica has the best beaches because it's had to measure the entire region especially with hidden beaches not well known. The Jamaican diaspora spread to North America and Europe where the media can embrace this new cultural diversity of the Caribbean that make the world take notice.

Omg...this guy made me laugh so hard...Jamaica to di worl!!!
As Rastafarism spread across the world,
Those who joined the hippie movement would feel a certain connection with this way of life, and of course here is a country that they could come and smoke as much weed as they want with little harassment from the law.
@@blackbway thanks for sharing this perspective
Couldn't read all a dat lol
Not only Windrush! Jamaicans disbursed all over the globe.🇺🇸🇯🇲
Time run out..

JAH MEK YAH ( Jamaica). Wi little but wi tallawaah ina dis yah PARADISE 🎉🎉🎉

NYAM is a word for eating and JAM is a word for relaxing or chilling.
My Jamaica 🇯🇲 definitely a brand and we welcome all to share our little island.

Some of a dem no want we because we behave bad.

Troll delete this foolishness
This guy kill you in little word
As a Jamaican when l travel, and take the taxi, and they ask you where you are from and you say Jamaican, if they are playing there own song, they turn it off and start playing reggae.
Poor guy we as Carribean nationals need to educate our brothers and sisters on the continent about the other islands🤣❤️🇯🇲
@@patriciamatthews9390 agree. He is clearly not happy acting Jamaican
Well, he hasn’t traveled wide enough b/c everywhere I have been everyone knew about Trinidad & Tobago. I have not been to two continents Australia and Asia.
You have people in this comments section pretending to be jamaican , but they not, just pure jealousy , always try to be negative againts jamaica
You should have included or highlighted those attributes or places
Most other countries are not educated about Workd Geography. If they did they wouldn't ask people from other caribbean islands where they are from.
