This video is SO helpful!!!! I too am tired of tryinig to squeeze pencils and background mediums into the binding and also am tired of maneuvering a fully extended book. I find it so much easier to color a book that can be folded in half - makes for a much more pleasant coloring experience. Thank you so much for sharing this!!! ❤

I was a dozen pages from completing Ivy and the Inky Butterfly, when my book imploded and every page fell out. I now take my 'important' books to the printer and they cirlox and bind them with a clear ring of the right size, and clear covers front and back to protect the lovely artistic covers (apx $7 Cdn). I also have days when I have to lie down, so I pop the part of the book I'm not coloring into a protective cloth bag, fold it tidily, and flip the book over. This way I am dealing only with the page I'm coloring, and the whole book is protected. Also useful if you spend a lot of time outdoors coloring. I have several books that I only color a few pages in and with your method, those pages could be put into a completed book of their own and not forgotten. Aren't we a queer breed that get excited over a swatch book. Yours is lovely, by the way. I'm in Alberta; where are you?

For unbinding a "perfect bound" aka glued book. Use heat. I use my heat gun on low but a blow dryer works well. Especially if the pages are a bit thicker.
Also for a punch i use the punch dile mushroom shape. Since i punch along the top. But usually the top of the page has more room and doesnt intrude on the picture of the page

    • @jicolourist

@@jicolourist for thicker books it does take some patience but it also gives you more of an edge to work with. On some books you do need to add a bit of washi tape to the edge of the covers cause the glue tends to stick there the most.

I do not bind my coloring books but I do use a disc bound system for my Colouring journal and my swatches. For my Colouring journal, it allows me to put my books in alphabet order as I receive them and I bind it at the top because I’m left handed :) I do hate when I can’t color to the very edge of the page, but the holes in my pictures would drive me batty I think!

Thanks for all your tips. I took it out to test it today. I am definitely going to try it on a book as soon as I get some small discs.

You can bind at the top as well so they flip long way. I find that easier when storing them. I do this with my planner and swatch books

Hi 'J' !! I was wondering about binding my coloring books on the top rather than the side ? What do you think ?? Thanks.

I think that would be great if you are left handed. I guess it would depend on the pictures and if you do a lot of backgrounds. You will be colouring over the holes either way so really just your preference.

Question: how much if the image is lost by cutting the binding off? Forgive me if you've already answered any thanks in advance for the answer.

Hi, the printer only cuts off just the spine, so that plus a bit from the holes, so maybe quarter inch on both sides. It only effects on double page spreads and not enough to notice. I would give that up instead of fighting to colour into the spine.

@@jicolourist Thanks for the answer. Yes, I agree. Worth it not to have to color in the cracks.

I have mine at staples for $8 for the spiral binder…price varies because of side.

I spiral bound one book, but have disc bound the rest. $8 wow!

I am left-handed and would put the binding on the right if it won't interfere with the images. I love the ones that are bound at the top.
Well, duh! I spoke too soon. If the pages are removable then it removes the interference for lefties.

Yes I remove my pages to colour, then if I have used glitter it does not give me marks too. But you could totally bind on top, I think that is genius

How to do you open the discs?

    • @jicolourist
      @jicolourist  6 месяцев назад

Hi, the discs are a solid circle with a groved lip. you slip the paper over the lip on the disc, the hole punch leaves a slit in the paper and a grove for the disc to sit.
