    Real helpful vid, I'm not sure if everyone can hear the difference each time but to me it's sounding happier and happier every run and the end it sounds raring to go. Get the reed done and I'm sure it rips!! I just acquired a js550 88ish, it needs a tune up but I'm miles from water so this helps to know what I'm doing before I get there. Keep up the good work

I just rebuilt a 760 for a sit down, fresh bore, pistons, crank seals, full mikuni carb kit, mikuni needle and seat, good pop off (low 30's). Reeds look ok, but ski has a dead spot if throttle is snapped open from stand still. Runs fine in midrange and WOT. Did notice a small spray out of one of the carbs occasionally when I snapped the throttle open. Adjustments dont seem to do much (and its a pain in the ass to get to the 44's low speed screw). Anyway, I'm thinking reeds. Does this sound right or should I look elsewhere. thanks

    • @EricksonMachinePerformance
      @EricksonMachinePerformance  4 года назад +3

      When the idle speed starts to raise its still no where near running away. Its just the start of that. I get it to that point an back it off until it sounds crisp and the rpm doesn't hang when it revs back down. Also when tuning the high and low screws don't always end up being even which is what ur seeing in the video. 1 hole can need to be richer or leaner then the other

    • @EricksonMachinePerformance
      @EricksonMachinePerformance  3 года назад +2

      It really depends on how far off you are normally pretty good at getting fairly close so it's normally either 8th a turn or quarter turn. But you can be anywhere from 3 turns out to completely closed. The more engines You ture the more you know if your almost perfect or far away and that kind of judges how much you turn the screw. Also if you can't tell if you're making something better worse sometimes better to do like a 1/2 a turn to make a big difference. If you understand what I mean.

      @straighttimestirrups it depends on the carb. Mikuni SBN carbs use the Jet and the needle Adds fuel to that jet. Sounds like the idle screw is holding the blades open 2 much, or the low speed screw or jet is to lean or there is an air leak

    a stunt ski must have been used did you see a different ski at one point?

      Stunt ski??? There where 2 skis in this video a Rickter and a Waveblaster. The waveblaster was mainly used to show the low speed adjustment because it's a single carb and easier to show the changes

      @@EricksonMachinePerformance thats why I said boom mic, that way you can be a good distance away and it'll still pick up everything you say without picking up to much background. You have all the good info to share but we need to be able to hear you! 😛

      @@fopm008 I'm working on a test tank to make it easier. That way I don't have to be in the water to tune and can use my normal audio stuff. Unfortunately I don't have a crew of people helping.

    A leak in haul !!

    • @EricksonMachinePerformance
      @EricksonMachinePerformance  3 года назад

      Supper valves can leak when the flaps wear. Which is what you see in this video. They are only used in freestyle skis that get alot of water from putting the ski under water. Normally 1 brap of the throttle and the hull is empty

    • @EricksonMachinePerformance
      @EricksonMachinePerformance  3 года назад

      I really only recommend flap suppers for flatwater skis. Ball scuppers leak alot less! But that's not what came on this ski

      Not really its very common for Performance 2 strokes to have movement. It as the soft motor mounts.

    Your plug will not change color within 8 second pull adjust and another 8 second pull that's no where near enough time to get any color change lmfao 🤣

    • @EricksonMachinePerformance
      @EricksonMachinePerformance  2 года назад

      Just a little FYI 8000 RPM every second the cylinder is firing 138 times. In 8 seconds it has fired over a 1000 times it's it a 100% changes colors on plugs try it before you make a comment..😉 I've been tuning research engines for over 20 years believe me it takes less than 8 seconds for the plugs to change colors.

    • @EricksonMachinePerformance
      @EricksonMachinePerformance  2 года назад +2

      The really amazing thing with spark plugs is how quickly they actually change color which is the reason tuner's Read spark plugs because it's the 1st thing that shows you when something is going wrong. I use 8 to 10 seconds because normally that's enough time to put the engine under load but not so long that you'll burn it down if it's set to lean. ✌️

    Off idle you want to tap the throttle and there to be a quick crank with crisp throttle response
